Jelly Bean -Early October - Asus Transformer TF700

Hey guys,
Just wanted to give you all an update on the jelly bean upgrade for our devices.
I contacted Asus about Jelly Bean on our Tf700's; here is their response.
Dear valued customer
Thank you for contacting ASUS Technical Service

That doesn't seem like it was written by someone who speaks English. What does "I have asked the superior that the JB of your unit will be released in early October" mean?

Asus Support
It's Asus support, I am surprised that they can speak any English.

Since ASUS is a Taiwanese company and since the bulk of their development and support is non-US based that makes it sound much more likely to be authentic to me. If it was perfect English it'd probably be BS unless it came from Gary (their local US support person who occasionally posts on XDA).
Nothing wrong with not speaking English natively. And it's really not that hard to interpret that he's trying to say the target for JB is early October.

October... Did this year?

What would it be useful to prepare and deploy the .30 ICS version if they are doing the same for Jelly Bean 10 days later ? I don't believe it's true and if it appears i'm wrong (i hope so) then i just don't understand Asus organization.

I think someone mentioned in another thread that the bootloader was updated in .30, possibly in preparation for JB.

If you consider that it changed the bootloader, the .30 update could be considered an important precursor to the JB update. I actually took the .30 update as a sign that the JB countdown for the Infinity has started (i.e. 1st phase of the release plan).

I certainly hope so!

But then why not just include the new bootloader directly in the JB release? Why would they need to release the bootloader in ICS first? I mean if I upgraded directly from .26 to JB, then they must still include the new bootloader in JB anyway, right?
I tend to agree that I don't see the point in putting work into and releasing an ICS update if JB is literally going to be released in the next two or three weeks...

I've come from a Motorola Xoom which got updated to JB just before I sold it to fund the purchase of my new Infinity. A few weeks before the BIG update there was a smaller one which updated the bootloader and a few other things. The subsequent transition was therefore smoother although a fairly large download - there were new GAPPS to consider! The result was a machine that went from great to wonderful to amazing.
I guess the .30 update, which I believe has taken the Infinity from good to better , may eventually lead us to the amazing tablet we were led to believe we had purchased!

Exactly. Since JB will include a kernel update, it makes sense to me to separate the bootloader update from the kernel update. Time, size and risk mitigation. This is why I think that it is part of the larger release plan.

Well your comment "the new bootloader of .30 firmware is a prerequisite for the JB kernel" seems to me to be a fine and logic reason for that ICS update before the JB update. It's nearly convincing me that you're right and that i was wrong in my previous post.
Time will say ....

[Q] Apps are stopping...

Just got my Infinity today, I've notice quite a lot of apps are having force-close issues. Mainly default browser, chrome, google maps. Also, the "Asus Weather" widget did't show anything, updating the settings made it force close. Tried to remove it from the screen, but then, trying to add it, i will not even be placed on the screen without closing..
Anyone know why or how to fix this?
Root it, and install io scheduler should help. But yes, its becoming apparent that the tf700 have this problem.

The firmware released is TW, you have WW (world-wide), you might want to wait a few days for the update specifically for your version. I will.

Yes. TW means Taiwan. Because ASUS is a Taiwanese company, so they make a version for their country, i think this tablet was released in Taiwan a long time ago.

With most of us not receiving .26 OTA, What are the chances that JB is the same way?

Those of us who had to manually update our Infinity to the latest .26 firmware because the OTA never came through.
What if ASUS releases Jelly Bean (JB) to the Transformer Infinity tablets and no one can see it because it will never show there's an update available.
Expect nothing...hope for something...
I wouldn't hold your breath, I'm certainly not holding mine.
who cares? whats so hard in manually updating? OTA updates are a feature, not the only road to go on.
If you need OTA rootkeeper then yes, it may be a factor.

You obviously don't care. ASUS posting the .26 update on their website was also a feature. Had they not done that many of us would still be on the base firmware.
So if ASUS doesn't post the update on their website this time and announce the JB release to the Infinity via OTA, but only 15% reportedly get the OTA. Would you still not care?
I don't know about you but I haven't seen any OTA update of any kind of on my Infinity since I got it, unlike when I had my Transformer Prime where there were updates coming every 2 weeks.
This should concern anyone who had to manually update their Infinity.

It's all good. This site will be abuzz like a kicked hornets best when it hits. Even IF Asus doesn't post the download, which is HIGHLY unlikely, someone on here will copy it and post for the others.. we're one big, friendly, helpful group here.
I'm fairly sure the OTA issue was fixed a while ago.

AKAIK Asus fixed the unlock/no OTA updates issue (yes these issues were related) so imo most users got the .26 OTA already. Also don't worry too much, i'm sure the JB update will be uploaded on Asus site a few days after the OTA update.

How many tf700 have actually got the 401 update

So far it's just rumors and speculation at this point. There is no evidence from anyone that they've actually been updated to 4.1 at all.

Everyone at this point should have the 4.0.1 update, as it's just an improvement to 4.0. The 4.1 update though hasn't actually rolled out yet though for thee TF700. 4.1 is Jellybean, and should be here within the next week.

I don't know about shipped. I just got mine from Best Buy earlier this week, and it booted up with 4.0.1, admittedly it asked me to update almost immediately after connecting the wireless.....
Mine came with 4.01 and immediately upgraded to 4.03 after the first boot up.

[Q] Differences between .30 US which was pulled, and new .30?

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the US .30 firmware that was pulled from the ASUS site earlier this week, and the one that is posted there now?
No I don't. If you are going to mark something as a question though, why not put it in the Q and A section...
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using XDA Premium HD app
I noticed that the firmware filename now contains the date, which is new. However, the date on the file in 9/7/12, so I believe it's the same as the original .30 version. I sure hope they wouldn't release a different ROM with the same version anyway!
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
I believe that even the ASUS firmware development team would have enough sense to bump the patch level number in the version string (i.e. .30 -> .31) if they had actually changed a publicly available release in any discernible way.
Maybe the US version was pulled from the site earlier this week, but it's clearly there now. Just checked.

*Request* NVFlash for Jelly Bean bootloader

Hi
This might be possible, or not. But anyone know kf there is NVFlash in developement for JB? As far as i know its only for ICS. Now il let you experts decide if this is actually possible, as im not expirienced in this area.
Thanks
No, if you want to have Nvflasher support, you will have to use Android Icecream Sundwich. On Jelly Bean it's impossible.

impossible is excessive but its true that till now nobody has found any fault in the new encryption measures.
brute force its not praticable so the only way are A) somebody find some kind of exploit or B) Nvidia and Asus releases their keys.

Why we not make a petition?
seems work when ask asus to unlock the bootloader
So I decided to buy a TF300T - though I wonder if there'll be JB or ICS on it...did Asus manufacture TF300T with JB already on it?
Because if not, then this NVFlash seems like a pretty good thing to me

Well then I fear if I order one over amazon it'll have JB on it already...unfortunately, but my dhd never had such thing as NVFlash and still lives after 2 years of more or less intensive flashing around
