[Q] Wet application screen protector damage - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I recently got an ArmorSuit screen protector, and applied it like I did all other wet application screen protectors. However, I guess as I was squeezing out the liquid, some got under the screen, as there is a dark, cloudy area around the border that looks like it's water damage. When turned off completely, there also is a light on in the corners. Meaning in a dark room, I can see it has some faint light in two of the corners turned on. Lastly, there is also a brighter strip of light down the middle that is about a centimeter in width and starts from the bottom of the screen to half way.
It's been about 24 hours since application, and I've left it off in a bucket of rice for those 24 hours. My question is whether or not this will go away with more time or if I'm just SOL.

Mine never dried out. I had the exact same thing happen. Replacing the LCD and digitizer was my only solution.

Very sorry to hear. This should be a word of caution to everyone who uses those types of protectors. I don't because they simply are too rubbery and unnatural but another reason is the weird feeling I have when spraying water on my phone.

For future reference, I always wrap the squeegee in a paper towel so that it absorbs the water as soon as it squeezes out from under the screen protector. I have never had any water get under the screen of my phone using this method.

So I just booted it on again, and noticed that some of the grayish/cloudy parts disappeared, there's still some there, but I think it means it's going away, however the brighter strip of light is still there and there's some light flickering in the bottom and corners. Does this go away as it dries or am I stuck looking for a replacement screen?

This just happened to me. It's quite unfortunate, as I'm out of warranty (bootloader unlocked, lol), and the only option it seems I have is to replace the LCD and Digitizer. I'm going to try the good ol' rice trick, hopefully that'll fix it.

Sorry to hear this fellas, could have happened to anyone. You would expect the manufacturer to test the application of their products.... Hopefully the rice will help!

Why in the world would you use these terrible protectors anyway? Assuming you actually managed to get it installed without wrecking your phone, its still the worst. They feel sticky and rubbery.
Don't use this junk.

same thing happened to me, but worse. I got the armorsuit millitaryshield, sprayed the stuff on my phone, the phone screen went really dark, my new htc one x i bought less then a month ago for 500 dollars!!!!, it is really dim, but if you look closely you can kinda see but it needs to be really bright like when it boots up the one x white screen i can kinda see that cause it's really bright. I think a light or something in there broke cause of the liquid!! I contacted amazon, they refunded me for the screen protector and they said they might be able to do something for my phone, i also contacted the manufacter yesterday, no response yet....
I am really mad, cause i doubt it can get fixed, cause i bought it from someone who owned it for a couple of months, but never took it out of the box, so pretty much brand new just never used and i don't use it on att use it on h2o cause it cheaper. Anyone have any ideas or anything?

I have successfully installed wet protectors in the past, multiple times on my old touch pro 2, the original atrix, and captivate. However, due to the hox's design I didn't attempt to do it, I only used dry clear ones...

I agree, but my droid x never needed a screen protector it was so resistant to scratches on the screen, i may have got 1 or 2 little scratches after 2 and 3 months. my htc one x has like 5 long scratches after less then a month. did you contact armorsuit about it breaking your phone, it's been almost 2 days for me and no replies. Amazon has been quick to respond and everything, and they said they can't do anything about the phone cause no one had a similar problem according to the reviews, but now i have this, but they did refund me for screen protector, they said to contact armorshield for the phone. I said what if they don't reply, like people said they don't on the amazon reviews, the guy said my manager will call you on the 18th and see if we could do anything about the phone, if they don't fix it or pay for a new phone, how much will a new lcd+digitzer+putting it on cost?
if that is the problem, seems the only problem with the phone atm is the fact is its really dim, i think like a light in there broke or something from the screen protector liquid.

Getting the screen replaced is $220, if that's what you were asking. (it's kinda hard to tell from your wording.)

I made a video on how to install a wet screen protector. trick is to open mist and hold the phone at an angle.

And the all important power off that evades many impatient minds:beer:

All three done by HTC. Sometimes they even replace the body of the phone for some reason.

dry screen protectors
I sent my htc one x out to htc, they said they might not be able to cover it under warranty since i bought it from a third party, even though i paid 500 dollars -_- and it's only been used for a week from previous owner and it broke in less then month from a screen protectors, amazon told me to contact them if i am charged with anything from htc, they said they might be able to do something about it.
Can anybody recommend any dry screen protectors? so i can have it ahead of time, so i can apply it on the new screen once i get, so i have no scratches.

I bought the Zagg Invisible Shield HD protector. Wet application. Feels like glass. No rubbery feeling. But I make sure always when squeegeing, that I use cloth and soak up the solution as I get to the edges. Not one problem here. Sorry for your misfortune.

Gorilla Glass my Arse!

OK, just noticed a bloody scratch on the phone. It's in my pocket (on it's own, nothing EVER goes in the same pocket as my phone) and when not in my pocket it's face up on my desk at work or on the coffee table at home so I've no idea how it happened
Would anyone here look to get it replaced as I'm tempted to?
Gorilla Glass is simply not scratch proof
Compared to other screens(displays) it is more durable, but it is still possible to brake and/or scratch it.
If I was within my 14 days I'd return it, they didn't check any of the phones I returned for scratches and what not...just for the problems I stated.

Then why do shops/operators say it will stop scratches? My Desire has lasted 14 months without a scratch, albeit in a case with a screen protector. I've not got one yet for the Sensation as of this Gorilla Glass thing.
I'm gonna go see if I can get it exchanged as otherwise the phone has been perfect

is your screen flat or do the edges curve up?
@EddyOS
HTC (or any other manufacturer tells operators "extremely high durability"
Most of them (80%) do understand that as : unbreakable, unscratchable , anti-fingerprints but this is simply not true. (Smart step form HTC )
as for the people who sell the phones. They are just simple sales man they mostly don't even know how phones hardware works or in this case what Gorilla glass is.
They have only one goal : To sell handsets

I know that! I wasn't conned into buying the phone but even the Gorilla Glass website says that it should withstand a bit of fluff (or whatever has managed to get onto the screen of my phone). I have had a lot of phones and always do my research before getting one and, as it happens, I won this Sensation.
As for screen itself, it is contoured as it should be but regardless the screen is ALWAYS face up so it shouldn't matter
Maybe they upgrade it to King Kong glass instead of Gorilla.

Seriously, though, I can't see how this has happened as I'm anal about my phones so I wouldn't have let this happen. All other users, take heed and get a screen protector/case if you've not got one already
Gorilla glass is brilliant imo but its not bomb proof. I have the slightest little scratch on my screen but I dread to think what it would be like with normal glass. But I was still disappointed, so now iv found some good screen protectors and all of a sudden aswell as protection, I can't even see the scratch anymore.
Also got some displex just incase

A phone with a screen protector on hasn't got any scratches? Who'd have thought.....
And just to reiterate what has been said, Gorilla Glass is not scratch proof, just less susceptible to them.
Heheh
They should put bulletproof glass .. but it still wont be unscratchable

As a fellow scouser and vodafone migrent i feel compelled to help.
I got my Sensation from their forum for an early upgrade all went well, the first 2 and a half weeks i had that screen problem where it wouldnt unlock.
i contacted the forum and they took too long to respond, so I took a step to call 191, they where fantastic, despite it being way out of the 7day cool off by about 10 days they exchanged it with out fuss.
my advice would be to call them and not use the forum as they are very slow to respond, and when calling do not mention a scratch, they will deem this as your fault so use the 'my screen is not working properly, when i touch it, 2 out of 5 presses are not registered'
i am 95% positive that way you will have a new phone by the end of next week!
edit: just realised you have insurance, I didnt so I am even more positive they will exchange it!

You will probably find the scratch is on the anti-glare/anti-fingerprint coating on the screen rather than the glass, assuming it has that coating on the gorilla glass like the GS2 has.
Let's be honest, a small scratch caused by yourself isn't really a justifiable reason for swapping a phone, unless you lie Vodafone will refuse it. And that goes double for the insurance.

But it wasn't caused by myself. I treat my phones like the most precious thing in my life, polishing it every other time I use it to remove finger prints/grease, etc. It lives alone in my pocket when moving between sites otherwise it's on my desk or coffee table with nothing else around it so I just can't see what scratched it.
Since I've had the phone I've even turned my pockets inside out to check for debris as I didn't wanna scratch it until I'd got a case. I'll see what Vodafone say and go from there. See Martin Fields have released a screen protector so I'll get one ASAP as it was perfect on my Desire

Unless it was on the phone when you bought it, it was caused by yourself, even if you can't think of an explanation of how it happened.
I know how you feel, I have a tiny scratch on my GS2 which also has GG and I can't think for the life of me how it happened -- I put a screen protector on it two days after getting it and changed it for a better protector about a week ago. While changing the protectors I noticed the scratch which could have only happened in the first two days while I was treating it like gold dust. Luckily, it's so small it can't be seen through the screen protector so I'm not bothered about changing it.

Screen Protector Woes

Hey guys, I just received a generic dry applied screen protector from Amazon and I'm having some problems with it. I have 2 more so if I need to reapply to try to fix these issues its not a problem.
1) The sides of the screen protector are lifted up and wont stay stuck down due to the infinity screen's curve at the end. Can I somehow make this dry screen protector stick? I'd like not having to buy a new wet applied one since they are around $10 (if you guys can find one for cheaper, please let me know!).
2) I just applied it and it made the screen kind of fuzzy. It has kind of like the look of when you put greasy hands on your device if you guys know what I mean. Will this go away when the adhesive dries? It has already been one day since I applied it.
Thank you!
Here's a question: How much did you pay for your 3 pack?
Honestly they sound pretty cheap if they can't even stick or if you can tell it's on your phone. You could return them as defective and get the SGP ones.
I had the same issue. I'm either doing the wet application or have a nekkid phone!

I bought ZAG from AT&T, they put it on for me and it was well worth it. She did a Fantastic job.
i hate matte screen protector ...
for a dry application i think the peel on the side of the edge is unavoidable when the glass is curved ...
i might have to go with a wet application this time even i really dont want to
for wet applications - xoskins ive tried them all , best one.
Dry - brando uk ultra clear - takes forever to get them shipped but they are awesome.

Just picked one up at radioshack. At first I was hesitant to let the girl there apply it for me, but she said she was somewhat of an expert and, after seeing the fantastic job she did, I agree! Soooo much better than what I've been able to do on past phones!

The ZAGG HD screen protectors aren't bad. I personally will be waiting for ghost armor to come out with their protectors (hopefully they will). If your in an area where their is a kiosk they do a professional install and if anything ever goes wrong with your screen protector they will install a new one for 5 bucks for life.

So much for Gorilla Glass..

My phone was just knocked off a coffee table onto a rug...
Must have met up with a grain of sand. I'm going to see that every time I look at the phone now...
Lesson learned? Use screen protector, even if you hate the rubbery feel
(tried my best to get a picture of it... pretty difficult to focus on)
I work in general construction. Meaning, dirt and saw dust is constantly flying around. I messed up in not buying a screen protector, and now the screen has a few hair line scratches that are only visible in certain lighting and at certain angles.
I don't really care though, cause I have SquareTrade insurance.
ahhh man i'm sorry . . mines got a few scratches on it which pisses me off everytime i see them, i don't even get how the screen got scratched. but that's just phones nowdays if you don't get a huge otterbox case stuffs gonna go down =/ F an otterbox case tho what's the point of the slimmest phone if we gotta do that?!
I recently dropped my phone as well with a case on, wasn't much help, the screen got chipped. however after examining it further, it seems that the screen has been treated with a gloss or some kind of finish on top of the glass. This may explain the scratching issue. It's really the gloss or finish that's being scratched off.

So I have been contemplating exchanging this phone for another because the lower plastic rear cover sticks out slightly on one side (was that way out of the box)... and I like my expensive things to be as perfect condition as possible (ironic, right?)
Think this damage to the glass will completely kill my chances of Amazon swapping out the phone?
Idk about amazon but I know T-Mobile wouldn't mention it especially if its not cracked cracked

If you don't like the rubbery feel look up realook screen protectors on amazon you can't even tell they are there had one on my vibrant for 2 years before I got my one s and it still looks ok considering the abuse I put it through. I have one on both my wifes and my one s's and she can't tell it's there either.

I had a Vibrant with Gorilla Glass that lasted 2 years without a screen protector and did not have a scratch on it. I thought my new One S would be the same.
Instead, after only 2 days - never having dropped it and with the phone only residing in my pocket (not the same pocket with my keys and change), my One S somehow got a hairline scratch on the screen.
I have since put a screen protector on it - though I much prefer not having one on it. Every time I see the scratch, I still get annoyed.
My advice to anyone considering buying a One S - before you even leave the store, invest in a screen protector.
Geesh.. makes me wonder if Sony's "scratch resistant" glass is actually any more durable..
I wasn't going to place a protector on my One S... but this changed my mind.
That's why you get a screen protector and a shell case right out of the box. If you are that particular about your expensive phone, it is well worth the extra cash. I got a shell case for mine and a screen protector as soon as I got my one s. Also helps resale value later if you have no scratches on it anyplace. X) I love my phone!

Well at least they are on the screen protector! I hope?

How durable is the HOX screen..? I have 3 scratches already...

I do not understand how these scratches came about, never keep keys in my pocket. Just normal usage (in and out of pockets and resting on table). My iPhone took a lot more abuse than this HOX yet there is so much more damage to my screen for the HOX.
Anyone else noticed this problem?
Keys won't scratch it. Sand and other hard, gritty things that reside in pockets will. It's not a problem, it's glass. Normal glass is hard to scratch, ours is even harder. If your screen got scratched, it was because something very hard (like sand) came in contact with it.
I've been using mine since launch without any kind of screen protector (or case) and have yet to get a scratch on the screen *knocks on wood*
Honestly, if your screen was scratched 99% of the time it was due to sand in your pocket.
Actually......ive had like 4 one x devices, they all held up just fine. Except one replacement i recieved, which by the way was used!!! Insurance claim! I have two of these phones - one has developed small scratches a little too easy for my liking. Anyhow, thanks for this info, will try the Zagg, had not heard of them cheers :good:
I don't use screen protectors or cases. I've got a couple of hairline scratches that are only visible when the screen is off and it's held under the light at a certain angle. And that's after I dropped it onto the road and it slid across the road screen side down. Gorilla glass did it's job. If you look after it, it won't get scratched.

I swear that HTC phones scratch by just looking at them. I had an inpire 4g and in 2 weeks with careful use a scratch about 1/2" long that you could hang your fingernail on just showed up on the screen. I was pissed. After that I got the Samsung infuse and used it with no screen protector and never got a scratch. After the infuse I got the gs2, never a scratch. I used the international galaxy note, never a scratch. Then comes the HOX and after 2 days of using this phone it gets 2 scratches, one an inch long and the other 1/2" long, both you could hang your fingernail on. I took it back for other reasons and got the unlocked gs2 from negri, used it for a month never a scratch. I bricked that phone by flashing an ICS leak and decided to give the HOX another try because I really like sense and the way the phone looks. After babying my HOX for maybe 3 days I go to bed not noticing any scratches, pick up my phone to check xda, and I see the rainbow effect of a deep scratch. I turn on the light and sure enough there is a scratch you can hang your fingernail on. The next day I bought the zagg hd shield and it hides the scratch good enough for me but it still pisses me off that HTC phones scratch so easily. The HOX is still my favorite phone to date, even with the scratched up screen.

If what your saying is true, I'd say you just had some back luck. The One X I own doesn't have a single scratch (on the screen) and I've dropped it on cement, bathroom tiles, and some other stuff without any kind of case.
Well if wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all.

Should answer all your questions related to how durable the screen is lol.
I've somehow managed to get a couple very minor scratches in mine. Not sure what from exactly but they are the kind that you have to tilt the phone so that the light reflects just the right way while the screen is off to be able to see them. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have invested in a screen protector but in all honesty it isn't that big of a deal. Aside from those extremely minor blemishes, the screen has held up very well against drops and normal wear.
For anyone that doesnt know about zagg already.........they cost around 25 bucks for the hd, and its well worth the money! I swear on everything, its just like looking at the screen without it. And the best part.........its guarenteed for life!!!!!!! Anything happens, or you get a replacement......its like 3 bucks for shipping. I suggest anyone with an expensive device get one. Gorrilla glass or not. Just saying.
SENT FROM MY TEAM VENOM POWERED AT&T HTC ONE X
I'm notorious for scratching my phone screens, but not a single scratch on my HOX since I got it in May. I don't use a screen protector, just a soft plastic case on the body. The dang thing has been dropped, put in my pocket with my keys, even had the new pup grab it... Nothing, so I'm very pleased.

Seems like the OP answered their own question, since if they have 3 scratches already, I think they already know how durable the screen is?
My HTC One X is having the same exact problem. I have been battling between AT&T & HTC for them to replace my screen but they are both telling me that these scratches are not covered because they are "physical damage". I moved to the One X from an iPhone 4 and never used a screen protecter for 2 years and I just sold the phone to Gazelle as excellent condition...the screen was flawless with no scratches. This issue only seems to be effecting a handful of users but IT IS a defect!!!
This post on Gizmodo kind of sums it up.

In my opinion, the review is BS. The phone gets occasionally warm but not that hot. I've not even once had it dial by itself in my pocket (and I keep it an average 8 hours a day in there), then the guy expects to drop the phone and leave no marks on the screen or casing, and then he ends his review with 5 hours battery life - just explain hiw can you get that with normal or even heavy use (unless you play games and don't put the phone down for like 4 hours).
Edit: and yet, he is rating the phone 4/5...

LG G2 is very fragile!!!!

If your thinking of getting this phone get a case as soon add possible! That happened after my father dropped hood phone once. Now the bottom part of the screen where the on screen buttons are does not work. So he just went back to his GS3. I have not found any tutorials on how to replace the screen and digitizer or if just the digitizer.

I did the same. Dropped my G2 going into Future shop to buy a case for it. Chipped the top left corner (can barely see it!) and now the top portion of the screen doesn't work... Now I have to get the screen and digitizer replaced...not cheap.

Y'all are some brave people to not put a case on such a great phone from the beginning lol
Thats what you get for buying LG. The companys products are notoriously ****ty and unreliable junk. Tvs, phones, cameras, everything. I been burnt so much. Not buying their piece of **** products again
Ooops too expensive for that bad thing...:silly:
Picked up mine from best buy for free yesterday. Was supposed to be $99 but rang up free. Gotta love teenagers in the work force!

I've smashed mine twice since november, today being the second time. 1st time it was in its flip cover case. This time, I took out of its case to lie in bed with it (cover gets in the way when you're on your back), went to the bathroom, fell out of my hands, 2 feet drop. Smashed again.
I have the Flip Cover, Otter Box Defender, now ordered the Incipio Leather Folio 2 in 1 and the Incipio Dual.
Figured if I had options I'd keep a good case on it constantly. Lucky I have insurance for it, 120$ deductable. I've reached my 2 claim max for the year though...
Most ...Fragile phone...ever...
I'm still getting a G2. Samsung uses versions of LED screens which have some chance of burn in, ghost images.
LG g2 is LCD. Yes there's a chance of dead pixel but I would rather take my chance with that instead.
Besides, LCD is easier to see on sunlight.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.

I dont use a case for my LG 4X HD. I have dropped it many times, no cracks. It depends on the build quality, weight, the way it fell and so on.
I find cases ugly and unnecessary.

Thats not entirely true. Unless you wont change your phone in 2 years, the chance of getting burn ins is low. Be careful with LG,they have a tendency to drop phone support ASAP.
My fathers G2 was put in a spigein slimarmor case before the sales rep even set it up. Last month his digitizer was going wokners, had a slight nick in the case that pressed stuff together. Took it to the sprint store, and the reps replaced the front of screen on the spot without even having to do a warranty claim.that LG glass is super thin, too thin in my opinion which is also the reason I will never buy the flex
i dropped my g2 more than 3 times luckily no damage. i dont have any cases.

I know, I've heard it's not too bad. My friend also has it and he said he has dropped it multiple times and nothing has happened to it.
It probably can depend of supplier and party . My friend bought first G2 and had many problems with it, so he returned it to the shop and got the replacement.... but the second one was not good too. Screen just cracked after about a week of use -__- But I know many people with really good experience with this device, so it really depend of how lucky you are )
