While I'm not going to debate the usefulness of this thread, I dont see how you can say it has nothing to do with our phones. He is suggesting people post up/down speeds on 4G with their >Galaxy S3< before and after the iphone 5's release.

This is exactly what was going through my mind when I saw that the iPhone 5 had LTE. I was going to test this myself, but forgot, no better time to have posted this but now, great idea |OP|.
I know I was on Sprint before and the release of iPhone 4/4s screwed up their network capacity. They should have never let the crApple phones off of the AT&T network, none of us deserve to get screwed over like that because there are SO many iPhones. They need to be on their own network. I bet the shear number of iPhone customers is what led VZW to do away with the unlimited plans, since they no longer needed to "attract" customers and compete with AT&T's iPhone at the time, and I bet this whole "share everything" crap is a brace / preparation for the LTE data usage of the iPhone customers after the release of iPhone 5 tomorrow, but all of us have to pay for it too, even though most of us can't stand those things.
That sucks.......for everyone else

Well lets hope Verizon is upgrading those towers... and lets hope they have an option to turn of 4G! I rarely use it, but can't see them being happy if you couldn't.

Relax. The majority of the people who are getting the iphone 5 won't do much more than browse Facebook for hours and update their twitter. None of which will be remotely taxing on Verizons towers.
Just my thoughts of course. I could be wrong.

I don't foresee this effecting the network speeds nearly as much as you say. IF Verizon were the ONLY iPhone carrier then it might, but you have those users spread out over 3 (4) networks now, all carriers have stated that once that spread happened, all the networks went back to normal.
And do you have any clue how much LTE spectrum Verizon has their hands on?
And I agree with nosympathy, this is in no way specific to our phone.

AT&T LTE Network Going Live This Sunday

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/att_lte_network_going_live_sunday
The cities included in this initial wave are Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Although users in those metro areas will still have very few LTE devices to choose from. Unlike Verizon, which has multiple LTE handsets, AT&T has no phones compatible with the new network. AT&T launched a data stick and a portable hotspot for the LTE network last month. The carrier has also started selling a massively overpriced Android tablet, the HTC Jetstream.
sweet im in San Antonio for a little while, now for AT&T to get some phones for me to use !!!
Now if they could hurry up and increase the HSPA+ speeds. I'm still only getting 3.5mb download and 1mb upload in downtown Dallas.... iPhone 3gs gets about the same download speed, although only half of the upload speed.
Come to the other side of the Metroplex. Downtown Fort Worth and I am getting 5-7mb down, 1.1-1.3 up. I can't wait for the Holiday with LTE. That will be SO sweet.

Well, I would like if it came out in Madison soon... (and when AT&T has more LTE Android phones)

As mentioned, you would need a LTE phone first. But, being an hour away from Houston, I wouldn't run out and buy one when they become available. I live in the outskirt of Houston and HSPA+ is non existent at home. In Houston where I work, as posted, I am just now seeing the true benefit of HSPA+. Probably some bottlenecks from ongoing upgrades being freed up, maybe a little congestion as well.

Knowing how AT&T operates, I'd imagine they opened up more bandwidth to the land-based lines to the area first to make sure their LTE debut went well and you're just seeing some of that extra bandwidth.

I'm not as stupid as you. I know when I'm on wifi. Here is the proof.
Here are some from earlier today. The first two were indoors, a large metal building with offices above on the second floor. The first run was bad, only 2800kbps, but I did hit 4916kbps on the second. I then went outdoors and tested a lil slower than yesterday, but not by much, 6485-7767kbps. I know we can't put too much stock in the Speed Test app, but there is some consistency and I'm getting much higher runs than I had been. Also, it seems to be reading my wifi at home with some accuracy.

Show me where I made that statement. I stated that since the LTE launch, my data speeds have suddenly increased and I'm finally seeing true hspa+, and that is a fact. I provided a couple of possible reasons for this, as someone else cited a possibility as well. I know what you saw. You saw the hosted by Comcast in the screenshot. Lol. Anybody with half a brain would know that there would have been a wifi icon in the status bar if I was on wifi. Next time you open your mouth, try not to put your foot in it. Your little signature says it all. Just because you are in a crummy area, doesn't mean it is like that everywheres.
Check my screenshot of prior tests and tell me if you see any improvement compared to yesterday and today. LOL.

I'm good. I just don't appreciate someone implying I'm either stupid or I'm a liar. It certainly isn't inconceivable that while AT&T was building the LTE network here in Houston, they were improving the backhaul for hspa+. Whatever the source of the improvement, I'm thrilled to see true hspa+ speeds. It is something I never expected to see with my Inspire.

depending on your time and location; I've beaten my co-workers' iphone 4 and two iphone4s on speedtest.net's app. but you have to factor the load of the network stop putting blame.
two iphone4's on AT&T , one iphone4 on VZW. only the vzw iphone4 was matching closest to speeds like mine.
4g or 4g lte? Big Big difference if its one or the other. I average 3-5 megs down on 4g here in Conway. I've peaked at over 10 megs down a few times though. We haven't gotten lte upgrades on our towers yet but when we do I expect I'll see 20+ megs down at least!
In Philly,
depending on the day, the time, the location, whether I wear my socks, etc...I can get between 1 and 9 mbps down, 1-3 up.
In South Jersey at my folks (who live in the woods), I can get 4-5 down. 3 miles away out on the marsh, I get over 10.
LTE-long term evolution. Suuucks....actually its ATT.

I average 25 mbps down in dallas on ATT LTE. When i drove through OKC i was getting about 15 down. Having used Verizon, i hate their coverage and their service. If you dont get their LTE, their 3g is 1mbps tops. I dont understand why everyone bashes on ATT.
Edit:
And Verizon's LTE is about 12 average on a good day. Peak of 18, low of 5.
how can anyone complain about 4.5 mbps down on their phone ???
goodluck with verizon, if you dont get an LTE signal your download speed is going to be less than 1mbps.

so was I . I would get 1.8mbps at my house (on 3g) on sprint but anywhere else i was that was not 4G i would get 15kpbs to about 600kpbs. It was painful.
On the 4g network (hspa+) i usually get anywhere from 3 to 9 mb/s, but when i hit the 4g lte area in NYC i see speeds anywhere from 20 mb/s on the outskirts of the city to 50+ mb/s in the center of the city, also depends on how much load is on the network. If your on a custom gingerbread rom try using the V6 supercharger 3g booster script with script manager and try playing around with the options, i usually choose the known maxed out values for the best possible speeds

That's sad.
Important thing with Att is reliability. Verizon lte was out several times in a short period of time. And you get they're crap version of 3g as a backup if that. I'm assuming all the cdma iPhone users are clogging it.
AT&T gets hspa+ as a backup if anything happens to lte, although there aren't any reports of outages with it as of yet. Enhanced 3g is more than enough for me, i use my phone to browse the internet, not tether or stream.

One X users in Chicagoland?

I feel like my one X may be defective. While in lte coverage with 4-5 bars I generally get around 10mb down and around 8 up (in the suburbs admittedly, but downtown it's similar). Oh, how the times have changed that we are complaining about 26mbps... lol jk
Chicago is a pretty big city so I assume there are others using AT&T LTE. I know where I live (in the middle of nowhere) I get 56mbps because there is literally no one else around me with an LTE capable phone on AT&T.
So it might just have to do with the amount of people using AT&T's network in Chicago. But anyway, yeah it would be good to see other people's speeds from that area.
I for one am dreading the LTE iPhone....
I'm from the suburbs just north of Chicago. Out here I get anywhere from 15-32 mbps (though at my house I only get around 6-8) and in the city I usually get around 10. Sure beats my iPhone on HSPA+ where I couldn't even check my email. AT&T's network sucks in the city. They have good coverage but their backhaul really needs an upgrade.

Change the server you are testing with, it isn't your phone that is slow, it is the server you are testing with and how much traffic is on the network when testing. Test at 2-4am on a weekday and your speed will probably nearly double. LTE is theoretically capable of 105mbps/down.

Seriously, anyone here with an unlocked One X on Tmobile? Were you fortunate enough to be one of the lucky ones to grab 3G/4G speed on Tmobile's network with the One X?

HA, still here, eating my words. Though the NHL lockout may drive me north to find some good hockey...
But seriously, since the iPhone dropped, i have seen a little decrease in speeds in teh area, though admittedly far less than I anticipated. I live in the city, around Wicker Park/Logan Square/Bucktown, which is hipster-effing-heaven. iPhones border on the official currency around here. Yet, still seeing nearly the same speeds in my area that I did before. In my home, i pull around 11up/11down. but around the neighborhood, I still see speeds range from 10 to over 25mbps up, and almost never below 10 down. I work in the loop, where I can get 15down on the street during a busy workday afternoon. and I even pull 5down on the 24th floor of my 1960's iron-and-concrete fortress office building.
These are all observations i've been making since the iphone 5 came. But when these range a lot. ATT does need to bump it's backhaul a bit. The difference between day and night speeds is, well, day and night. This is to be expected, but you'd like to see that gap close a bit.
As for your question regarding the Atrix HD to One X switch, i wish I could help more. I haven't been following where the One X has gone in terms of connectivity to T-Mo, but I'd be confident that you'd be happy with the HOX over the AtrixHD in terms of it's functionality. I'm sure the MetroPCS merger is going to substantially boost the usefulness of the HOX on TMo, but when that is in effect, I am unsure. Have you done any searches around these forums yet? I know there has been a lot of discussion about this in the past...

Whose LTE network will take the hardest hit with an LTE iPhone

Whose LTE network will be crippled the most with an LTE iPhone AT&T or Verizon? The reason I ask this is, even though it is an Android forum, a large number of members have LTE phones and will be affected by this. I would like to hear peoples' professional responses, not AT&T/Verizon sucks. Please talk about the technology and how the increased number of LTE phones will affect their networks.
As a whole Verizon will probably not be affected much. Individual towers in densely populated areas....may. I know in my area a year and a half ago...when vzw was having 4g outages every week that I was pulling down 30+ and about 15 on the up with a rezound. I have went thru a bionic, RAZR, nexus, and have an siii on the way and over the course of the year and a half my speeds have gone down to about 10 to 12 down and 3 up. Tells me either vzw figured out the throttling thing where they say you won't really notice it ( more like capped speeds) or that many more have gotten LTE on vzw in the north Chicago neighborhoods.
Can't answer about at&t as I don't have their service.

Hopefully the networks have been planning for this and are well prepared. They absolutely ought to be, considering that the iPhone 4S could have had LTE and they've had essentially an extra year to prepare. I know accommodating the record setting number of users will be tough, but I think they'll manage.

Sprint Spark....Where is it??

I feel like I'm the only one who is noticing that the greatly anticipated Spark for Sprint just disappeared from discussion once it launched. I'm not seeing any data speeds or discussions but regardless, has anyone had much success with it yet? I know for myself in San Antonio Tx, we barely manage 3g, no joke. San Antonio has been one of the first to launch 4g LTE and still has them in the same places. I was told literally by a sprint rep,
"Wait until Spark hits. Trust me, Sprint will be back in the game. You dont want to cancel your contract because you'll be sorry. Just wait till February, and perhaps even March." Well, Febuary is here and I see no difference. I get, 0.20 LTE speeds on a GOOD day, 0.01 mostly, so I Just keep my 3g on most of the time.
So what are you all's thoughts, because I am stumped right now what to make of all this. Is sprint spark just another joke?
BTW, here is the URl to some info on sprints website about it. I looked for my "0.01" speeds and found that my LTE speeds are ranked at the 2g speeds. Wow.
