...to BestBuy and get my money back. It's a B80 serial # (HTK75.US_epad-8.6.5.13-20110925) and from lurking here it has not been rooted yet.
Can anyone give a best guess as to when it might be? I been reading that if the SBKv2 version ROM is installed that it will never be root-able. Has this been confirmed?
If this is the case, I think I know what my decision will be.

rooting requires bypassing security features. either by discovering a key to go through the front door, or by find a backdoor.
either process is done via a non-deterministic process. therefore, there will never be an ETA, or any estimates. it happens when it happens.
devices with the new SBK (B70+), can technically be rooted. no one knows how or when.

I've got the same device and I really want to root mine.
In the end it seems all devices get rooted so i just think that if we don't have
the skills to do it ourself we'll just have to wait for one of the magical wizards to
do it for us.
The device is still giving me endless joy so i don't mind waiting a bit more.
I have a non-rootable B7O. Last weekend I purchased a B6O on ebay. I've got it rooted and running Revolver, overclocked to 1.6. I have to say that the difference is stunning. The non-rootable B7O has a perfect screen with no light bleed, so I am going to keep it awhile to see if rooting comes through. Otherwise, I love using my B6O now. Love changing things like themes and buttons. Got it running Hulu last night. Really enjoy a rooted device. Pulling for you 'rayman' as you work on cracking the locked boot loader!!

I'm sorry, are you connected with this site? Are you a moderator? If not just get a life and worry about other matters.
So what if its been asked before? Maybe there is a new answer to the same question. Or maybe searching didn't provide the exact answer that I was looking for. This forum is not that huge where this is a burden. It's all text and storage is cheap. It's the nature of forums that questions will get asked repeatedly so deal with it.

Yes I am connected with this site. As are all users here. We have been asked by the mods to help keep the site clean and to report when people insist on breaking the rules. This is a developers forum not n00by spoon feeding forum and if you can't be bothered to look for the answer first then go away

Well here's the thing - there's something called Forum Rules - maybe you should check them out!
The first one says to Search before posting! Pretty self-explanatory. So the question "so what if its been asked before?" is the wrong question. The correct question is, "How do I find the forum rules so I can read them?" to be followed by the statement, "It is a good thing for users to search."
It's XDA-Developers, not XDA-SpoonFeeding-Restaurant-Dujoir.

I just bought an ATT One X. I haven't messed with droids since the droid incredible.
I know it's considered rude to ask for an ETA on a root for firmware 2.23 but i'm trying to figure out if it is going to be to long and if i should just buy an iPhone.
I would REALLY appreciate civil answers.
Thank you so much.
Buy the iphone. I don't think you'll fit in here. This is the android development section. I don't even know why you asked a question here when there's a whole forum for Q&As. There are also threads specifically for root on 2.23 in general.
Go buy an iphone. It'll be easier for you.

TBH you should buy an iPhone.

If you are asking this question, I say just get the iphone.. but honestly, I had an iPhone 3gs heavily jailbroken, and after using the HOX for a week, I'd never ever even consider switching back to IOS. Android just kills ios, not to mention, the HOX is one helluva phone, even stock.

2.23 is the Singtel (Singapore) firmware. So its already rootable, you're all set!
Seriously, I assume you mean 2.20. I'm no dev, but it would seem that asking for ETA on root is like asking when a random event like winning the lottery is going to happen. Devs are trying different exploits, and hoping one will eventually work. Its basically a crapshoot.
"Heavily jailbroken" just wait until I release SUPER ROOT compatible with all android devices
Here is a thread to keep a breast of the efforts to find root.

You could ask there for an eta.
I apologize in advance if this has been answered previously, but with the different variants of the One, I find it hard to determine if the one X+ ATT version has been successfully rooted and unlocked. I am seriously considering the phone, 64gb and quad core is nice but I currently use a jail broken iPhone for tethering and can not go without. If the above answers to root and unlock are 'no' then the next obvious question is: has anyone found a work around for the ATT HOX+ to tether without a carrier tether plan? The forum topic regarding the edit of the file requires root and appeared inconclusive for some. I also noticed in that thread that the users may have had a different variant like the One XL(?). Answers from ATT users would be most welcome. I've looked at Hansoon's root topic/thread but again the ATT variant has me spooked. Thanks again.

How embarraskin'! I never realized the button on my XDA forums page was set to "Top Devices" and not "All" or "Newest Devices" so I couldn't find the forum for the One X+. Frankly, my experience for searches regarding XDA has always been more successful without Google and there really isn't too much on the One X+ on google just yet. But here...a wealth of info.

The dimensions are actually different. Minor, I know, it could make the phone not fit correctly and cause the dock not to charge it for the pins are not lined up.
Dimensions of Internatiional: 134.36*mm (5.290*in)
69.9*mm (2.75*in)
8.9*mm (0.35*in)
Dimensions of ATT: 134.8*mm (5.31*in)
69.9*mm (2.75*in)
8.9*mm (0.35*in)
Megadoug13 not to be mean or anything, but almost every post you create has been answered dozens of times. Now as of right now, the galaxy s4 google edition is still just a rumor. If it turns out to be real, and the hardware is the same as the att version, is there any way we could get the odin image, decompile it, put the att modem and bootloader in, then flash it? Would it work?

Yeah in that other thread, they are linking to the definition on "****!" needless to say it's way off topic. I too am wondering the same. Being that there are no hardware differences, I don't see it being a problem to share Roms. It's already gonna support AT&T and T Mobile frequencies, so I think it will be a share great between the different models!

To be honest, it all depends on which bootloader the Google version comes with. AT&T bootloader is locked but T-Mobile is unlocked. Now I don't know a lot about bootloaders so please correct me, but if the Google version comes unlocked, it would most likely be the same as the T-Mobile one. I know for a fact using a T-Mobile stock ROM through ODIN on an AT&T S4 does not work. So until the bootloader is unlocked you won't be able to flash the Google stock ROM.
Supporting both AT&T and T-Mobile networks simply means it will work on both frequencies of LTE service. This has nothing to do with the bootloader because unlocking the phone from AT&T doesn't unlock the bootloader but the phone will work on the T-Mobile network.

He specifically said using the AT&T bootloader. I don't think he's trying to unlock the bootloader this way, I just think he's trying to run stock Android using the same technique for getting out of a recovery loop (flashing stock ROM through ODIN). Without an unlocked bootloader this won't be possible because the ROM won't flash.

I'll say it again before someone else has too, NO IT WILL NOT UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER! Bootloader encryption is deep and the kernel must be signed by AT&T in order to load. The Google GS4 is OBVIOUSLY NOT going to have the same bootloader since they are not AT&T, simple as that. Flash your GS4 with a Google ROM and Kernel and you will be bricked and or it just won't even flash.
NOW PLEASE STOP ASKING!
Jesus people, he's asking about the possibility of converting our phones into the Google Edition with an Odin flash. Where the hell did this get misconstrued as asking if it will unlock his bootloader? Take a couple benadryl and get off the computer for an hour. That being said, I'm not posting this to continue the argument. You said you'd be done and so will I. However, just to clarify, I only brought up the bootloader to explain that flashing AOSP won't work and explained why.

I have better idea how about just search for your own answers instead of posting and then you won't have to deal with the pompous pricks.

Normally I do, but since I provided an answer, I couldn't search for it lol

I'm so sick of pompous people on this forum already and I've only been a member for 2 days.

When I was brand new here, I sorta thought the same way. The things is though, I read every single thread and post about my phone. I didn't ask a question that was already answered ten times over. That's where noobs go wrong. They don't read. They're (often times) too lazy to do any of their own foot-work to try and solve their problem or answer their question. It's not so much people being pompous as it's devs and members are just tired of the same old thing over and over again. This has been going on long before I was a member.
There was a dev that made ROMs for my old phone. They were my favorite! You know what happened? That dev got tired of people posting the same questions and flooding his inbox with the same crap. So, because of lazy people, myself and everyone else that used his ROMs suffered. That's when I stopped caring about how some people respond to others. Spend a few years here and I think you'll have a better understanding of that.

There's a difference between someone starting a new thread and people flooding one particular dev. Besides, the issue here was unique (and apparently some "experienced" people still aren't grokking why).
People do need to chill out about this sort of thing. Besides, the search function is kind of ****ty and is not working half the time, so cut people some slack if there's some overlap. It's not going to hurt you.
