So, what are the main things to do before/after upgrading to JB?
Before: Preserve Root with rootkeeper, backup the installed apps (with titanium backup?) then update.
After: Factory Reset( necessary?) , restore al the data.
Anything else? i've only rooted the device

I need a help from anyone,please...
I've succesfully updated to JB (vie OTA).But i want to setup clean JB,then i want to do a factory reset
or wipe dalvik-cashe-data on my Tablet.
If i do so-do i loose root? (it was saved with OTAKeeper befor update to JB and restored after that
without problems).Or do i lose OTA keeper (or backups from Keeper) to restore root after wipe all??
Please suggest me, i'm very curious about that and want to make all right
from the Beginning...
Thanks in advance,
Val
Just forget-i have root but not modified bootloader.

You can do factory reset and still have root. Make sure you do a full backup first with Tibu.

These are the steps I took.
1. Make sure you Install and use SuperSU
2. Install Voodoo OTA root keeper. Make a backup
3. Factory reset
4. Install super SU from market
5. Install vodoo from the market.
6. restore root in voodoo
7. open supersu
Might be an easier way to do it, but that gave me no problems."
Thank you very much for your answer!
I will do exactly so as you said!!
Hello, long time lurker here. Thinking about finally making the plunge to a custom rom.
I have a lot of apps with my saved data, high scores, etc.
Wondering if it's possible to unlock, root, install custom rom and retain my apps and their data.
Will Titanium Backup do this, or should I suck it up and reinstall everything?
Titanium is perfect for such things. But TB requires root. If you are on the 2.20 firmware, I'm not sure whether the new temp root exploit will allow you to run TB or not. If not, your data will be wiped out when you unlock the bootloader (before permanent root is achieved).
unlock --> root --> backup all apps including app data using tit backup batch mode --> flash custom ROM --> restore apps including app data using tit backup batch restore.. jsut ensure that you are not trying to backup & restore /system apps

Telus version, so don't need to exploit, but I know unlocking the bootloader will factory reset my device, trying to see if there's a way to do this before I unlock

That won't work. Unlocking the bootloader wipes data.

thanks for correcting
Oh wait, forgot about this little gem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671746
Follow that procedure, unlock the bootloader, restore data.
Now the trick is, on your version to get root you need to flash a rooted ROM (if I understand correctly). If you flash a stock rooted ROM, you may be able to do so without wiping data (which is normally recommended). Then you can run Titanium, and backup your app data.
Wiping data (factory reset) is normally advised when flashing ROMs. But if you flash a stock rooted ROM, it might be similar enough that it won't cause any serious bugs. Enough to get Titanium running. Then wipe, and flash a ROM of your choice.
That's just my thought anyway. Not 100% on any of that, since I didn't have to do it this way, personally.
Thanks! That sounds exactly like what I'm looking for.
Does it matter which stock rooted rom I use?
Such as: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920424
So I would unlock, install recovery, install this rom. run titanium backup. install custom rom, restore with titanium backup?

I guess not a nandroid data backup. Since it requires twrp or cwm but u can use apps for backup that dont require root. Such as share cloud backup. Backup all apps and transfer them to pc the do what u have 2 do and then use apk manager app to batch install the apk files. But this backs up apps only not data not files.
Hello If i download the latest version rom from asus and install it will I have everything installed the way it came from the factory?
I cant use factory restore now because I did not make a backup before I deleted some programs. will I then be able to do a factory restore from settings then backup and reset menu. and also will I still have root?
thanks
I went ahead and did it and it did reinstall every thing to stock. and you do lose root but I just rerooted.
Hello Everyone,
I have been having weird issues with root on the latest OTA update. After the update, I found that I lost root and so installed the SuperSu using TWRP recovery again. However, could not get root access back. Tried this like 3-4 times but still didn't work.
After that I took a nandroid backup (didn't have any backup till now) and wiped the cache and data. And after reboot I get root but if I restore the data partition from the nandroid backup, root is lost again.
Now I want root but don't want to get rid of the data.
Also, if its useful anyhow, in the superuser app - under su binary v2.00 "-rwxr-xr-x" is red, "root root" is green and "/system/xbin/su" is green.
Anyhelp will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Well, best way to root would be solid in losing the data and unlocking the bootloader, guaranteed to wipe you data. I'd copy your sdcard to your pc then copy it back after rooting.
You can head to the dev section to find a root and there is a method actually where they say you don't lose data; you can check that out.
Have you tried flashing SuperSU via TWRP instead and letting it update the binaries?
Is there a necessity to install a custom recovery when I'm running on stock rom? (never changing to custom)
If I factory reset my phone and try to restore everything, only titanium backup is needed right? the system apps are the same so titanium backup would restore them. In this case is a custom recovery necessary?
I'm on android 4.4 and rooted but bootloader is locked. I understand the differences of titanium backup and custom recovery but I wanna know if custom recovery is needed on devices with stock rom+titanium backup

If you are rooted then yes its always a good idea to have custom recovery so you can make a nandroid backup of your stock setup, then if later you have issues that you can't get straight you can restore the nandroid and be back to normal, nandroid backups are backups of your entire device, titanium backup only backs up user data(apps you've installed, app data, contacts, pics, videos, music and things like that).
Titanium backup does not back up your boot, modem, system or recovery partitions and those are the important parts, the stuff titanium backup only saves non essential stuff.
If you don't install custom recovery and you have issues then your only option would be factory reset or reflashing stock firmware, these would wipe any data that you want to keep.
