Hi
I have HTC Desire S. After OTA Upgrade HBOOT 2.00.2000 . So revolutionary method did not work. Unlocked using HTCDev.com
Used AndroidFlasher with CWM Recovery and rooted my device.
Can i simply install another custom ROM?
If no, How do i get S-OFF now? Or I will have to revert back to Stock ROM and root via another method now?
Device details in my signature.
Read, read, read.
Every single answer to every possible question about the Desire S, rooting, S-Offing, locking etc has been asked and answered many, many times.
Read the stickies.
Read the threads.
Understand what you are doing and why.
If you can't understand it then leave your phone alone or you risk breaking it.
I was able to revert back to Stock ROM using tutorial posted here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31057015&postcount=108
Thanks anyways

Things like this make me despair for the future of XDA.
1) I suggested you read and understand as all the answers are out there
2) You search and find the answer - as I said you would
3) You then give a sarcastic "Thanks anyways!" comment
Do you really expect people who have answered the questions countless times to keep on answering the same questions because people are too damn lazy to search first?
And - to compound it - you have the quote "If i helped, Press Thanks" in your signature, yet you steadfastly refuse to thank someone who actually helps you more than you appreciate ...
Hey I replied here with the link because i was able to unroot and s-on my phone and thought maybe someone who is looking at recent threads may get help. Thats all man

nah never use rom manager, download 4ext recovery updater app (google it) then open the app and flash 4ext recovery. Then go find a rom u like, download it, put it on ur sdard, boot into recovry like i said before, phone off - vol down + power then in bootloader select recovery by pressing volume buttons to move and press power button to enter recovery. Once in recovery (backup ur phone if u want by selecting backup/restore/ backup) then go to
wipe/format/
format all partitions except sdcard
then install from sdcard and flash rom
I already have 4ext recovery. So now I will follow thw rest directions. thanks

science is a cruel misstress -my friend
everything that happens to the systems our devices are running today,
is burried inside their treacherous dependances, file names, vacabulary,...
how otherwise- do you think- developers existing on these (and other ) forums ,
would have been able to mod a single thing,
without plunging- with no mercy for their time or effort- deep inside the lines of code,
that are burried deep beneath an average user`s interests and whereabouts...

that is what ota normally automatically do. this way is do it yourself method. but i dont recommend this, people could lose their root possibility..
If this does work, then great, but, you could try to package the parcel a little better, how about adding an explanation detailing exacting what this update should do and under what conditions (from what ROM and hboot versions it's safe to run) along with where you actually got it from or did you create it on your own?
Apologies for repeating the same comment against this post three times now, but it still stands and why is it repeated anyway? You haven't actually answered my questions either.....Deep insider XDA is too vague when you step away from all responsibility and we're playing with £400 devices....I understand you can't be held accountable but you don't inspire me with much confidence.

Ok I understand. In the Thread "sense 3 ota update" or something like that in htc desire s general forum. on page 15 comment 145. Some guy posted the link so i took that and some people tested it out and said it was Safe, as you can see in one of my other threads about this update! So i just decided to make a guide of what to do and see if it helps, it will probably get rid of your root, but that is why i said only people with unrooted devices and s-on. It is Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0. The guy got it from HTC.COM 9(SOMEWERE) FOR EUROPE! Is that all???
So with this guide i can go back to my Stock Rom with Restore from 1st backup and run this if i want S-on? my phone is in my sign.
It's not worked..
"update.zip" file not recognized or something, never came installation message...
Dial *#*#2432546#*#* method not worked too...
download link does not work for my area ....
anyone can upload that for me ?
my desire s is still on 2.3.3....never get any update...
btw ...i should still be able to flash this if it is S-OFF? my desire s came with s-off...
I want to ask how to change from S-ON to S-OFF.
Take to carrier, they can change it to S-OFF

So is there any more solutions?
Some roms can do that. May want to look for a hack to fix it. Warning this will require a rooted phone. Do at your own risk

My HTC Hero has installed 2.3.2 Gingerbread, I don't know is it rooted,I'm new in Android phones. I want to install this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1283338 , but I have read somewhere that phone has to be S-OFF.
Sounds like you are already rooted, install rom manager and see what happens. Do a backup and then try flashing the rom. After downloading it, see if it works ignoring the S-off for right now.
I have installed ROM Manager and have Backed UP the phone, but then i turning the phone (VOLDOWNand ON button) there are no recovery mode, I only Can acsses to recovery mode trought theROM Manager.
That is fine, but did you flash recovery from the top of the app?
Yes,I have did ''Flash ClockworkMod Recovery''.
So You saying I can flash itwith that ROM and itwill be OK?
Yep, if it messes up, you can just restore if it shows something when you go to backup and restore.
Hit that thank button if I helped!
BIG Thanks to you, it worked.
So whenever I want to flash other ROM's, I can do it with no worying?
You should really try looking in the Hero forums and read up on flashing and using adb and fastboot. If something goes wrong flashing, those tools will be a lifesaver. The way you are flashing right now is just an accident waiting to happen rom manager is notorious for messing up. Just go to the Hero forum and read up on rooting and there will be a How-To guide on getting S-Off as well. Just do some reading and you will get the hang of everything. Its really easy once you get the hang of it.

Start by reading the stickies in the Dev forum. Then read the stickies in the other forums. The use the 'Search' option (if that is down use Google with a site-specific search). Make sure you read and understand what you are doing before you start - but it is all fairly simple and the answers to all your questions are out there already.

Your next post will likely be "can't boot the phone, stuck on HTC logo". When it happens, remember that instead of searching, you took the short path of listening to someone who might not know something (as in fact it happened). Just as the guys above, I have no patience for those who don't search, and not going to explain what's missing.

So, before everyone says to use the search button, im gonna say that i used it and didnt find anything, but to my problem. So i just then took out my HTC Sensation from the cupboard and decided to start "playing with it". So i read tutorials about rooting, and finally got it rooted with the help of this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632553
After i got it rooted, i thought you can put roms just like with Samsung phones. So i downloaded this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115520 I put it on the sdcard and flashed via CWM and now its stuck, even tho it said everything went ok.
My question is that is this fixable and do you have to do something with HTC phones before flashing a rom?
Hi
Greetings,
According to the info you gave I belive your "s-on"
Your phone is recoverable.
Download 4ext recovery for HTC sensation .
Install that recover and boot into recover,
Recover>tools>enable smartflash
After enableing smart flash, flash the Rom you want your phone will boot.
Remember to make a clean installation(wipe everything except sdcard)
For more info search for guide" how to flash Rom with son" in general sector

Hi,
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Hi!
I've been readin and searching for quite some time now and can't seem to find an answer for my question.
Here's the deal, I have an Inspire 4G on which I want to install the BLACKOUT 4.0 with SENSE 3.6 rom, my phone is S-On and I can't do S-Off because of broken volume buttons, I already managed to install 4EXT Touch recovery, so I can flash de rom's zip file, but, since I have S-on, I know I need to flash the boot.img file via fastboot, I've put the phone into fastboot via adb command, but the thing is I don't see any boot.img file inside the rom's zip, I found some boot.img inside the Kernels folder, but there's no "Inspire" folder in there.
I hope somebody can help me with, I only need to know where to find the BLACKOUT'S boot.img for my inspire 4G, or can I use any other boot.img inside the Kernels folder?
Please help.
Thank you.

You CAN'T really brick tzhe device as its S-ON. Worst case was that you had to flash the stock firmware / anothr rom again. The kernel will not affect your recovery. If you downloaded the rom for a "Inspire 4g" it WILL be compatible lol

I'm having a hard time trying to get into bootloader/fastboot mode, and once in bootloader I can't select anything, so I just don't want to start and then find out I can't continue because I don't have no volume buttons, I have never done it before, but I remember when I rooted my inspire I had to select something, and in that case, the volume buttons were needed yes or yes, so I just don't want to start and then having to revert everything back to stock or bricking the phone, and by bricking I mean, that it might keep just rebooting and since I don't have volume buttons I won't then be able to get it out of the loop cicle.
Or you don't really need to volume buttons in order to S-Off?
