that is what ota normally automatically do. this way is do it yourself method. but i dont recommend this, people could lose their root possibility..

If this does work, then great, but, you could try to package the parcel a little better, how about adding an explanation detailing exacting what this update should do and under what conditions (from what ROM and hboot versions it's safe to run) along with where you actually got it from or did you create it on your own?
Apologies for repeating the same comment against this post three times now, but it still stands and why is it repeated anyway? You haven't actually answered my questions either.....Deep insider XDA is too vague when you step away from all responsibility and we're playing with £400 devices....I understand you can't be held accountable but you don't inspire me with much confidence.

Ok I understand. In the Thread "sense 3 ota update" or something like that in htc desire s general forum. on page 15 comment 145. Some guy posted the link so i took that and some people tested it out and said it was Safe, as you can see in one of my other threads about this update! So i just decided to make a guide of what to do and see if it helps, it will probably get rid of your root, but that is why i said only people with unrooted devices and s-on. It is Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0. The guy got it from HTC.COM 9(SOMEWERE) FOR EUROPE! Is that all???

So with this guide i can go back to my Stock Rom with Restore from 1st backup and run this if i want S-on? my phone is in my sign.

It's not worked..
"update.zip" file not recognized or something, never came installation message...
Dial *#*#2432546#*#* method not worked too...

download link does not work for my area ....
anyone can upload that for me ?
my desire s is still on 2.3.3....never get any update...
btw ...i should still be able to flash this if it is S-OFF? my desire s came with s-off...

Dude, I'm, on this... I was up with the guys last night on the unrevoked thread debating this. Going to do so, right now. You said the one ending in .6, of course, but the ruu, or custom made..
Links to what's what and where you got them would help.
Thanks.

The question that needs to be asked is;
What PRI did you start the above process with?
if you already started with 1.40, then you did nothing new.
if you started with 1.34, well then you may have done something worth while.

Yeah!! Sup bro? Any how hes right i did have .34 last night .. It doesnt matter which .6 PC36.IMG you use . Also noted-- The speeds are the same but my ping was 350-450 and now they are 90 to 150.. the pri doesnt increase speeds but does in delivery (how fast data is sent to your phone from towers) follow the step and dont be gay----love GOONZ

not being funny on anything, in fact i really appreciate you helping the community so much by RUU's
just dont you think it would have been easier and CLEANER to put all your RUU's in 1 post?i mean you could always edit your post and add another. this way it could have been a sticky and everyone would know where to look.
this thread is already becoming a mess just like the original desire section. try keep it like the G1 and the HTC HERO
its just that people say search, and it would be easy to do so if everything was in a nice neat post

No, it wont.
Hm, not even with a gold card?
Not sure about that. RUU + Goldcard or RUU + Goldcard + root.
I would think it will work, it's signed, so it should be flashable, right? We'd only need root for flashing an unsigned one... so goldcard + that here would debrand.
I'm a noob tho, some senior smack me when I'm talking out of my behind here...
With goldcard yes. No need for root.

1: You should know who the mod is.
2: It's only been 2 days since I finally got a device to work on, and some great ppl have gotten quite far as a matter of fact in the G2 forum. It would be pointless in me trying to duplicate a month's work just to be up to date (since most of the standard attack vectors have already been dismissed anyhow).
Since DHD's HBoot and the G2's are similar in most (if not all) aspects, there only needs to be 1 centered effort, and by the looks of it, we'll be needing some good assembly skills, in which I don't really excel.
Most of the effort can be tracked here:

Just a question,
I cannot seem to flash the RUU.
Steps I've taken:
1) Connect phone.
2) Run RUU.
3) Wait.
The RUU recognizes the phone and wants to boot in bootloader, but all I see is the HTC logo sitting there doing nothing.
Then the software returns usb connection error.
Strange thing is that when I unplug it (when the HTC logo is there) I can see the bootloader screen.
Can someone help me with this problem (if possible)?
Is there a way to flash it from the device itself (like you could do with the htc diamond, DIAMIMG.NBH)?

Are you talking about the black HTC logo??
If the RUU says usb error, close ruu.
Unplug cable (you see the bootloader now instead of the black HTC Logo)
Plug cable.
Start RUU again.
This should do the trick.
I already tried that but if I plug the cable back in, it just goes to the black HTC logo again (or is that supposed to happen).
Is there any change logs for these roms?

I'm not taking a shot at your english but from the sounds of it you rooted, you had a custom ROM installed? and then you put in your sim and re-ran the hack kit? I'm not 100% sure what you actually did but if the hack kit ran and you were rooted and using the rcmix rom, running the hack kit again is explicitly stated not a good idea and will jam you up. If you did this, consult the IRC chat room in the OP of the Hack Kit Thread, I'm sure attn1 and those guys have seen this situation before.

Can you get to hboot by powering up holding volume down and power button at the same time. Ifso see if it is s-off? If so you might be able to enter rocovery this way and flash a rom.
Usually when I have an issue with a rom or phone I flash the stock rooted att rom (pd98 zip) and start over with changing the rom. Sorry I can't give you the zip file I'm on the road all day today but if you search q&a section you will find it.
Hope it helps.

what it sounds like this user did was ran the hack kit and rooted fine (assumption), the mention of the RCmix ROM makes me believe he installed the ROM and then realized the SIM card wasn't in, so for some reason he/she ran the hack kit again? which if you read the OP of the hack kit, Attn1 explicitly states don't do that or you will get jammed up. I'm assuming Attn1 can fix this quickly since I imagine this issue has happened on more then one occasions and he'll be a better resource to fix this rather then us trying to troubleshoot this from the trial and error side. But if this user cannot get into the IRC chatroom, there isn't much more any of us can do.

agreed. if people dont research HOW to root the phone, likely they dont know WHY to root the phone.
So if I can enter HBOOT. but when I try to enter recoveryel phone does the same. htc logo appears and disappears until it almost off the screen ..
and yes is it s-off.
There's a thread at the top of the Inspire General forum that explains exactly how to fix this. It's been there for a month. Do your research and you'll find the answers you need.
If the rooting process worked correctly.
Here is the rooted updated ATT Gingerbread ROM. Just place PD98 in root of SD card then go into bootloader and let it do its thing. When it ask to install volume up for yes. AS ADVICED " RESEARCH"
Place it in the root of your SD card (you will have to remove SD card and use adapter to move zip file to root of SD card if PC does not recognize phone with USB cable) and power phone off then power back up holding down power button and volume down button at same time. Phone should go to bootloader then it will recognize the PD98 zip file and ask if you want to istall. Volume up for yes and it will do its thing. No need to try to get into recover phone will do it itself with the PD98 zip file. Zip is (ATT ROM 2.47.502.7 w/Radio - 26.10.04.03_M)
This is for Rooted Stck ROM
http://www.fileserve.com/file/RtVn4Re/PD98IMG.zip
NO NEED TO RENAME JUST DOWNLOAD AND PLACE IN ROOT OF SD
Hope it helps
PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT ANYTHING ON YOUR PHONE IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING.

Then you can flash a custom ROM if you like.
Been there
same thing happened to me, tried flashing cm7, it got stuck in an infinite loop so I did the same thing and had to get a new phone.
Just make up an alibi don't tell them u rooted and make sure there is no damage to ur phone. They just gave me a refurb phone and now I am using RCmix3d.

Because, if peeps are searching like they should, the thread is not really dead. It should still be getting views and if anyone has anything to add, they should do so. Provided the thread is not real old that info is obsolete and what they add is constructive.

The nature of a forum dictates that time will pass between questions and answers - until someone who has the knowledge and time to answer your question happens to see it, it will just hang there.
The user who posted underneath of the post I quoted has brought to your attention the fact that you have not supplied enough information to answer your question. There are different answers depending on the versions of software installed on your device, and depending on your situation the answer can include "there is none and you are stuck with an unrootable device."
Due to the diligence of a user named jkilo we now have an irc channel where people are sitting around for people who have questions and want answers in a more timely fashion.
Most of us have never been to the site you came from, so again, we have no idea what you have seen, tried or been exposed to.
If you showed up at a car forum and asked "why doesn't my car start" - most people who could answer your question may very well be turned off to posting in your thread because they don't want to spend who knows how many posts dragging the information necessary out of you to determine what your problem is.
How to ask a question
Please don't take this post out of context and think I am picking on you, but seeing postings like this from time to time I am hoping to bring some level of education to yourself and others so that in the future people can refrain from being at odds with themselves and reach a more timely conclusion to issues they have that require resolution.
As mentioned above - what version of the software are you running on your device, and what is your hboot version?
Are you s-on or s-off?
What recovery do you have installed on your device?
What operating system are you using on the computer you will be working with during the rooting process?
That should be enough to get us started on working out a solution for you...
Additionally to easily access the bootloader info go into settings-power- and uncheck fastboot. Then power off the phone. Once powered off hold the volume down rocker and push power for a moment and then release the power button. This will take you to the bootloader screen where you can see your version number.

Those bits of info will get you closer to where you need to be. Also see if there is a line stating S-ON or S-OFF. There are three versions of the bootloader from HTC. The two most common are 1.44.0007 and 1.45.0013. The one you REALLY want to see ends in .0007. Revolutionary works on that one and it works like a champ. The other one is more problematic and need the HTC Dev unlock which at the moment is less than impressive. I expect that the devs here will figure that out soon. That is a total guess but a good one as those guys are determined.

Okay, don't do any official system updates before you continue - you need to obtain s-off first, and you will be fine from there on.
The revolutionary method will work on your device.
First, go to this readme about it and get the doubleshot fastboot drivers:
Revolutionary Wiki
(these are the htc drivers that came on your original microsd card with the device)
Then go to the Revolutionary website and read the page, then choose your download (windows or linux) and supply the required information to download the software.
Next, on the device while that's downloading:
Go to settings on the device, and then application settings, and then development.
In that menu turn 'usb degugging' on by clicking the check box, and you might as well do the same for 'stay awake'
Also go back to the main settings menu and go down to power, then un-check fastboot at the bottom of the list.
Hit home to get back to your main homescreen.
Now, after having installed the usb drivers on the computer and set up the phone to be ready to work with, you should plug the doubleshot into the computer.
Close any autorun windows or anything like that that may pop up.
Run the Revolutionary program. Yes, install clockworkmod during the install. (if it doesn't for whatever reason don't panic - you can do it later easily once s-off)
Once you are all done with that, you might as well reboot the phone again just to make sure it's all fresh to continue.
If you were able to install clockworkmod, then you can flash the root package:
Root flashable zip file for 1.44.0007 hboot 1.28.531.9 or 1.28.531.10
Put it on your sdcard, and then reboot to hboot and select 'recovery' from the menu options.
Just choose the option on the clockworkmod menu to 'install zip from sdcard' and find the superuser zip package. Flash it, if it doesn't take some users have had to flash it several times in a row to work, so on this one it's worth trying again if the first fails.
Once that is done, you will want to boot up normally and wait until it's ready for you.
Then go to the Google Market and get the app Rom Manager, open it and tell it to flash clockworkmod recovery.
Make sure it then tells you the proper phone name before proceeding, let it download and flash the most updated and official clockworkmod recovery.
( Clockworkmod 5.0.2.7 is the most current official recovery at this time )
----
If you need to install clockworkmod recovery and you still have a stock recovery after doing revolutionary ( maybe you had no internet at the time or something ) then this is the easiest way to replace it after you are s-off from revolutionary:

Replacing Stock Recovery: Clockworkmod
If you have S-OFF but stock recovery, the easiest method is to:
[1] - Follow the instructions in This Thread to get temp root.
[2] - Without rebooting, add your market account to the device.
[3] - Install ROM Manager from the market.
[4] - Flash Clockworkmod through ROM Manager.
[5] - What you do next is up to you (but a clockworkmod backup isn't a bad idea.)

And now that you are up to date on being s-off and then having the most recent custom recovery, you can do anything you want from here.
Install custom ROMs, flash back to full stock (but still s-off) retail launch, or anything in between.
Any questions just ask!
Thank you man tomorrow I will try its late now but thanks for taking your time and energy to help me out

[Q] Installing Custom ROM on Unlocked + Rooted + S-ON Desire S

Hi
I have HTC Desire S. After OTA Upgrade HBOOT 2.00.2000 . So revolutionary method did not work. Unlocked using HTCDev.com
Used AndroidFlasher with CWM Recovery and rooted my device.
Can i simply install another custom ROM?
If no, How do i get S-OFF now? Or I will have to revert back to Stock ROM and root via another method now?
Device details in my signature.
Read, read, read.
Every single answer to every possible question about the Desire S, rooting, S-Offing, locking etc has been asked and answered many, many times.
Read the stickies.
Read the threads.
Understand what you are doing and why.
If you can't understand it then leave your phone alone or you risk breaking it.
I was able to revert back to Stock ROM using tutorial posted here

Things like this make me despair for the future of XDA.
1) I suggested you read and understand as all the answers are out there
2) You search and find the answer - as I said you would
3) You then give a sarcastic "Thanks anyways!" comment
Do you really expect people who have answered the questions countless times to keep on answering the same questions because people are too damn lazy to search first?
And - to compound it - you have the quote "If i helped, Press Thanks" in your signature, yet you steadfastly refuse to thank someone who actually helps you more than you appreciate ...
Hey I replied here with the link because i was able to unroot and s-on my phone and thought maybe someone who is looking at recent threads may get help. Thats all man

OK, my apologies. It just gets so frustrating with the same stuff being asked every day.

nah never use rom manager, download 4ext recovery updater app (google it) then open the app and flash 4ext recovery. Then go find a rom u like, download it, put it on ur sdard, boot into recovry like i said before, phone off - vol down + power then in bootloader select recovery by pressing volume buttons to move and press power button to enter recovery. Once in recovery (backup ur phone if u want by selecting backup/restore/ backup) then go to
wipe/format/
format all partitions except sdcard
then install from sdcard and flash rom
I already have 4ext recovery. So now I will follow thw rest directions. thanks

science is a cruel misstress -my friend
everything that happens to the systems our devices are running today,
is burried inside their treacherous dependances, file names, vacabulary,...
how otherwise- do you think- developers existing on these (and other ) forums ,
would have been able to mod a single thing,
without plunging- with no mercy for their time or effort- deep inside the lines of code,
that are burried deep beneath an average user`s interests and whereabouts...
Do not mind me saying this, for i mean no offense to your dignity-
but this is a developer`s site, and the sooner a newbe learns- the better...
