Hello, my question might be a bit silly despite the fact that our Sensation has 1gb internal memory for apps and games. However, for a user like me, it seems to be not enough. I just purchased a class 10 32gb memory card and I plan to do app2sd like I did on my brother's HTC Explorer. However, I am not sure if our sensation supports moving apps using app2sd or link2d. I also don't really know how to configure app2sd. For HTC Explorer, the app2sd is already built in the custom rom.
Thanks in advance.

actually you don't need app2sd to move apps in sd.it can be done from settings

Since you're already running ViperS which is an ICS ROM, you can easily move those apps (of course apps which are supported to be moved to SD). You just have to go to Settings -> Apps and you should see a list of apps under USB Storage, those are the apps that can be moved to SD. Some apps will automatically move to SD once you've installed them and you can see a tick mark there. Those apps without a tick mark, you can tap on it and then select Move to SD.

Thanks for your responses. Fyi, I have already done that method and also I am already running out of memory. I saw my brother's phone which uses a2sdgui on his rom, no matter how much he installed stuff, internal memory usage is below 30mb. That's why I'm asking if I can use a2sd/app2sd method. Or is it just the same?

it's an option, but not the only way
No, its not the same. You need to install a2sd+ script, make ext4 partition on your sd and then apps will install on sd.
1. It will slow phone down
2. Not sure wherever it will work, check with both script and ROM developers.
3. Don't expect much help on that from devs, as for majority of people 1gb is more than enough.

Yeah I realize the fact that I wont get much help. But, it will slow down my phone? Can you explain more on this?

it is simply like in the pc.wherever you are running anything to pc from c it reads/writes it faster than running it from external harddrive disk
always an internal storage has faster read\write than external

I'm confused I dunno what to use the Mytouch3G's internal memory or my Adata 16gb Class 6 Turbo Series for my apps. Which one should run faster?
anyone can confirm this?
dont be a newfag
hmm, dont quite understand your question.........most roms come with apps2sd built in, so usually apps will be saved to the SD card. Now if you want to a run a hero rom, then thats where the class 6 SD card will come in handy for speed.

I mean which runs faster apps on internal memory or apps on sd? since mytouch3g has a large rom for apps Im wondering if it's better to run apps on internal memory

Thread Trashed!!
I just picked up a Droid Charge a few weeks ago. I am digging the phone, but i am a long-time user switching from a Droid X which had 16gb internal storage. It is a brutal culture shock to say the least. I am always checking out new games and apps and have a significant collection. In other words, i need the storage! Especially since there are many apps and games that do not support move-to-sd card feature. Running out of storage was something i never had to even think about until now. It's really the only major gripe i have with the phone, but it's a major gripe considering the Charge only has a measely 1GB of internal storage. Ug.
Out of habit, i move all the apps to my SD card when i can. "When I can..." is the problem. I never had to use an "apps2sd" app before, but i've seen some versions for Froyo in passing. Now that i actually have a severe need to move some apps to the SD card (e.g. Let's Golf 2 - a fairly large game), i was having trouble spotting an apps2SD app that might work on Gingerbread.
[Q] Does anyone have a version (or know of a version) of an Apps2SD app that works for Gingerbread 2.3.4 (EP1F)? I am desperate to move some of these stubborn apps. It's gotten frustrating enough to tempt me into thinking about going back to my X. It would be wonderful if someone could help point me in the right direction!
For what it's worth i am on the leaked TW stock rom with 2.3.4 (+CWM+Voodoo) found in v2 of "The Charge Kit."
Thanks!
I agree!!! I recently got a Droid Charge myself and have grown more and more frustrated with having to constantly move every single app, no matter the size, to the SD card. It really is a pain. Sooo, if anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it too!
Thanx for posting about this, TheShade!

You can "force" apps to SD with Titanium Backup. However, the ones that don't support APP2SD will not run until you move them back to internal memory.
Also, I think you would be wise to request this to be moved to General. Lot more traffic there.

Thanks kvswim! Appreciate the suggestion.
Just wanted to say thanks again kvswim, for the suggestions. I have had Titanium for a while now. Shamefully, i had not fully explored some of the batch options. Tho I am still hoping to find a gingerbread version of an apps2sd app which allows u to force the stubborn apps to the sd card, Titanium has some nice options that I hadn't noticed before.
I was able to use Titanium to force-move Lets Golf 2 and some other larger games to the sd card. I am also able to run all of these games and apps with no problems. Sweet! This freed up quite a bit of storage for now. I have an even greater respect and appreciation for Titanium now.
Thanks, again!
Since I saw some screenshots of custom ROMs on a Chacha, that had a dialer on the screen I would like to ask:
Which ROMs are really adapted to the Chacha?
That means:
- no dialer keys on the screen because you have a keyboard anyway
- keyboard usage possible in menues and lists
...
I would think about using a custom rom if that can make battery life longer and the phone quicker, although I don't want to have any loss of functions or a ROM that acts like a ROM for phones without keyboard.
So I guess I better might not change it, but it would be nice if someone could give us some overview on how good the roms fit to the Chacha and what the benefit will be there.
I also like to know,
cyanogen mod has some issues?
No one knows?? Anyone here who installed a custom rom?
The issues have been stated in the SuperOSR/CM thread. Check there.
I
yes, i saw theme,
I speak about general appeal, is it worth it, and doesn't mess my phone?
thanks.
The problem is that even HTC didn't provide the phone with some software that fits to the phone. For example: If you want to start the timer or if you want to add something to your calendar, the phone will show you some touch input for the numbers instead of offering you to enter the time with your keyboard.
I doubt that custom roms will do better there, will they?
the problem is:
1. Cynogen mod team don't support the chacha yet, i'd like to use the cooked rom, cos i tested cm7 on my wildfire before, and it was nice and sleek.
Honestly if you want to use custom ROMs, get another phone. The ChaCha isn't the best phone for that at all.
Chacha is cool
I don't need a "rocket in my pocket!", my phone just needs some love from developers.
2. chacha is way cooler, with a trackpad, and bigger screen.

It's a cool phone, yes, I just ordered one myself, but it's not ideal if you want a large selection of custom ROMs is all.

That is what i was thinking too.
The problem is: The Chacha is one of the few phones that has the keyboard in the barren design. There is only the Samsung Galaxy Pro or the Motorola Pro+ with similar design, but both of them don't have keys for answering and ending phone calls. There are two Huawei (e.g. the U8350) but they have no LED-flash and the old type of touchscreen. So this clearly makes the Chacha the best Android-Phone in this category.
However: 85% of the Android phones don't have a hardware keyboard and all the other phones that have a keyboard usually have it inside, so they still have a big screen and a ROM that is made for use without keyboard.
Since the Chacha has the keyboard available all the time, it doesn't make sense to have any phone dialer on the small screen. Even the calender could have been done like on the Nokia E71 where you just have to use your keys.
And that's the point where I think that most custom ROMs are done for phones where people don't use the keyboard most of the time... A custom ROM would only make sense if you still have the benefits from the keyboard and if the small screen isn't filled with things you don't need because you have a keyboard.
How is the situation with the ZaSa_4chacha?

since i did, i can tell you that i really feel that the battery life is now Better and ofcourse the Internal memory thing is solved, now i always have +100mb of Internal memory free.
there's a few bugs though, but i assure you it's worth it..
That's just my opinion
cheers

Did you root it while still S-ON?
I did yesterday using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452173
I'm totally new to Android and the HTC Status/ChaCha and I'm having a bit of trouble understanding what to do next. From what I gather, do I need to partition my SD in order to enable a2sd? I don't know what is the difference between a stock rom and a custom rom, I just want my phone to have enough internal memory. If you can give me a few pointers.. I'd appreciate it. TIA.

You need to create an ext4 partition on the MicroSD first. Do some searching and you'll find some guides, I don't think you need a custom ROM to do it as long as you're rooted

Thanks for your reply. I did manage to read something about that but I have to take the SD card out of the phone, it said not to partition it while the card is still IN the phone. I don't have an adapter to hook it up to my laptop so I just ordered an 8gb microsd with the adapter to do the next step. So with that I think I should be good.... right? Lol. Custom rams sound a bit too tricky for me... so I'll stick with this for now. Thanks!

It depends on the method you use. Some methods advise you to partition the SD in recovery mode or with the Terminal whereas some say to use the computer. If the tutorial you found is good, just follow that and you should be fine

Thanks! I went to Target last night because I wanted to be done with the process ASAP but a 4gb sd card is like $14.99+tax. So I decided to get it on eBay... 8gb with adapter $7.99 total. Now I'm just waiting for it.
Was just wondering why the a2sd functionality hasnt or is not being implemented into the roms being made for i727, is it just cuz its not needed or no one has achieve on implementing it yet?

Are you talking about apps2sd?? Because that feature has been built in for a while now. Just go to Setting > Applications > Manage Applications and click the tab On the top for "On SD Card".

I think he is referring to a2sd, the script that allows apps to go to sd card, regardless of if the app supports it or not. The script is called on phone boot up, before regular apps2sd, which overcomes some of the apps2sd problems, like widgets. I used that script on my Aria, as it had a very limited amount of internal space. However, I think it may have slowed down app load times slightly.
I haven't seen a script for it in the Skyrocket forums, but I have seen some market apps that can do something similar. Might look into that. I have yet to see a need for it on my Skyrocket, but then again, I don't have as many apps as I did on my Aria.

Gotcha! Yea I've actually never seen that. I guess since I've always had phones with 16 GB internal so have never seen a need for that. Apps2sd always seemed like it was meant for older gen phones that didn't have much internal memory.
so we all know the g2x's internal sd is a little complicated to use. but i cant let 8gb sit there unused. if the phone didnt have it, id probably buy a 32gb micro rather than 16. but anyway, MIUI mounts the internal as _InternalSD on the sdcard. which is perfect because music players find my music which is spread amongst both cards.
so how can i do that on hellfire sandwich? i tried editing the vold.fstab myself from mnt/emmc to mnt/sdcard/_InternalSD but it didnt work. help would be great!
side note:
was the g2x stock firmware a little different than normal gingerbread to accommodate the internal? i flashed weapong2x the day i opened it. because some apps like titanium backup allow me to navigate to emmc for backup location but others like playerpro dont care about emmc. so do stock firmware users just suffer?
First, don't mess with your vold.fstab unless you really know what your doing. Its a really easy way to brick your phone for a good few hours (or days if you dont know how to fix it)
mounting the internal on the external can cause some really nasty things to happen. Including wrong both sd cards as well as corrupting your /system and /data. There are correct ways to do it to avoid those problems, but it would involve hardcore modifications to alot of the cm7/cm9 rom and some of the scripts and kernel too.
Honestly, your best bet is to live with it. Eaglesblood ICS's developers are cooking something up to repurpose the internal for something more useful.
Even if you do get something working, theres a good chance something you do one day will break it and youll be up **** creek.
Also, the stock rom stack mounted the external on the internal, im not sure if any other modifications were made to make sure it played nice with android though.

well im just editing the path. googles little explanation at the top really helps
so miui did it the correct way? how did they do it? kernel and script changes like u said?
also, even if not working correctly, shouldnt it work? i just changed it from mnt/emmc to mnt/_InternalSD so if it listens to me. it should work -_-

because in cm7, there are a few spots where that is set, so changing the path in the volt.fstab is most likely getting overwritten by another part of the ROM.
and in cm9 based roms (like HFS) things are even more different, i wouldn't even know where to start here.
ive never run MIUI, but from what i understand, it does it backwards of the stock ROM, putting the internal on the external, which becomes a problem if you pop out the SD card, then the internal might get lost.
very bad things happen when an app expects a drive to be somewhere its not... sometimes resulting in corruption of entire partitions. (ive been here, not fun...)
i guess i could live with it. im trying to migrate all the stuff that apps require onto my sdcard and move all the stuff i usually browse to onto my internal
so music on external for the music app to find. then my movies on the eMMC, as i usually get there with file manager and then open with mx. i guess i could also move my APKs to internal? to even out the space.
i actually was considering a p925 (optimus 3d/thrill in usa) but it has no roms. id have to use stock im just really interested in the 3d scene
nevermind apparently thrill and o3d are interchangeable (when it comes to roms) and the o3d has a ****load of roms. so i guess im good. but im not even sure if im gonna switch. i just want to and might (its $150 on craigslist)
