4eXT is a fully touch and simple recovery that is way better than CWM in my opinon.
Here's how to install it.
FAQ:
-Do I need to remove CWM first?
---No, 4eXT overwrites it.
-Will CWM backups work with 4eXT?
---Yes, but TWRP backups won't.
-Why doesn't 4eXT recovery updater have features like ROM Manager?
---The premium app does. ($3) 4eXT Recovery Control

Setting up 4eXT:
You can install it by going to settings > apps and checking unknown sources, then scanning this QR code with the barcode scanner app to download the 4ext recovery updater app.

Once it's downloaded tap the notification and tap install.
Then tap open.
Set up the app by tapping accept, then ok twice, then tap "online install | upgrade", then tap allow on the superuser popup, then tap ok, then check "Do not ask again", then tap yes, then wait, then tap ok until the popups are gone, then tap yes on the "is this your device" if it says thunderbolt, then tap "4EXT Recovery Touch v1.0.0.5 RC5", then tap ok, then tap install. Once it finishes installing tap ok then tap yes.
Installing a ROM:
From the main menu of 4eXT recovery updater, tap "Power menu" then tap ok. Then make sure reboot into recovery is selected and tap "Do it!".
Once in recovery, tap "backup | restore" and then tap backup and then the check mark.
Once it's done backing up hit the back button until you're at the main menu.
Then tap "wipe | format" then tap "format all partitions (except sdcard)"
Once it's done formatting hit back and do the format two more times.
Then go to the main menu and tap "install from sdcard" then "choose zip from sdcard"
Then scroll down until you see the ROM name then tap it, then tap the check mark.
Once it's done installing, tap the check mark then go back to the main menu then tap "reboot now" and tap the check mark.
thank you for posting this trter, very clear explanation. i'll be referring/linking those curious about 4ext to this thread!
It was a great idea. I cant believe people still run cwm. Maybe we nred to be bumping madmaxxs thread for 4ext so the newbs can see it.

yeah, that's a great idea too. madmaxx is a great developer, he always replies to inquiries and works hard to make his app and recovery the best they can be.
Yeah no doubt. When I had a dinc2 he released two updates back to back to fix the scrolling for it in the recovery. It was awesome.

I saw enough talk about this recovery around the forums and went ahead and installed it. I didn't fully read this thread, I just installed the updater using your all-in-one tool and it worked like a charm. Then I just fully explored the updater and installed the latest RC.
I was one of those CWM users... I read enough about how sometimes the recovery isn't reliable and just switched right away. 4EXT looks awesome...
Play store say that my device isnt compatable. I am rooted, running Liquid Smooth ICS.
Helpful post!
One error - the QR Code leads to an invalid address. There is an extra "p" on the end. Once you remove that it begins downloading.
Thank you for this!

I already pounced on 4eXT and installed it before seeing this thread, but good job on getting a clear and concise install guide out there for people who are curious. I love 4eXT. :cyclops:

1. Find the recovery image you want and MAKE SURE IT IS FOR YOUR PHONE (should say in where you download it what phone it is for).
2. Write down the filename of the recovery image EXACTLY as it is written (i.e. recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.1-heroc.img).
3. Put the recovery image file on the SD card (not in any folders).
4. Download Terminal from the Market if you don't already have it and install it (there are a few different terminals in the Market some have an onscreen keyboard and some don't experiment till you get one, also hold down Menu in some of them to bring up the onscreen keyboard if you don't see it).
5. Open the Terminal program and type the following (with hitting enter at the end of each line).
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/name-of-recovery.img
6. In the above text, replace name-of-recovery.img with the name of your recovery image (make sure the .img is on the end).
7. Phone should pause for a second and then show you a new blank line. Turn it off and back on by holding down Home and Power to ensure it flashed correctly. Done.

Ok, here is step by step upgrade from Infuse 1.53 to Infuse v2 Beta 3 Custom Rom
1: If you have a /Voodoo folder on your internal SD card, delete it.
2: Download http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...a-3-full.zip&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13124967301111 update-infused-v2.x.x-full.zip, and http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...ernel-v1.zip&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13124965954951 Odin_Infused_V2_CWM_Kernel-v1.zip and copy both files to SDCARD
3: Install SGS kernel flasher from the Market.
4: Open SGS kernel flasher, select choose kernel, select Odin_Infused_V2_CWM_Kernel-v1.zip,
select flash kernel. Your phone will reboot and begin to enable Voodoo lagfix.
(this may take an extra few minutes).
5: Once the phone is booted, select "Recovery" from the power menu.
6: Select "install zip from sdcard" and select update-infused-v2.x.x-full.zip.
7: Go back to the main menu in CWM and select "wipe data/factory reset".
8: Select "reboot system now".
Have a great day,
Enjoy!

how do i get there
download "xchat" and install it.
when the server list pops up, we are on "freenode"... its a long list. in abc order.
then type in #infuse4g for the channel
or if you have aim just im me, whnangelsfall
i already deleted a voodoo folder within sdcard, but now i'm not sure if its looping or bricked. I went back and read the dev section and it does state that this step will take a while but its already been over 15 mins
well, part of the issue is that you already had a voodoo enabled kernel. so you can skip a few steps. go back to the v2 thread, and in the instructions GTG states if you've already got voodoo you can go to step 7, which tells you to just install the file to your sd card, boot into recovery and flash.
at this point, i would pull the battery. insert it again, hold both volume buttons and hit power for a moment or two. let go and you should see the samsung logo, and it should boot into recovery.

CWM Touch Recovery for Atrix 2
First if you use this and it kills your phone I am not responsible, that said it should work.
For ICS Safestrap
TouchICS.zip download
As with the GB touch recovery none of the work for the recovery is mine. i just ported to work with ICS Safestrap for the Atrix 2.
the same credits apply.
Credit: Koush, nitroglycerine33, J.Y.Daddy, Hashcode
ME .01%
how to install (for now. i plan on making a script to install soon) :
1. unzip contents of TouchICS.zip to your sdcard on your phone.
2. copy "recovery.zip" and "2nd-init.zip" to /etc/safestrap/
3. reboot
OPTIONAL
still a WIP but it does work. my goal is sdcard-ext.
The touch recovery doesn't support having a "safe system" so your thinking "what use does the webtop partition have then?"
How to install :
copy "vold.fstab" to /etc and reboot
your phone should now see the 1.3GB webtop partition as USB Storage. It will ask you to format the "USB Disk" the first time you reboot.

really? how did you get it to work with rom manager. I didn't think we could do that!
I didn't have to do anything, it just works lol. After I flashed the touch recovery and as soon as it booted up, I went to RM and clicked backup. It rebooted, backed up, and booted itself normally. I verified the backup was there and legit, all good.
ok so i was showing my gf how much better this was hit the vol down key twice fast and the phone locked up... pulled battery and booted no prob
restarted and it rebooted into cwm as expected and then i hit the vol down key... highlight moved down.... hit vol down key again...
locked pulled battery everythings fine....
full decrition of bu above on an otherwise amazing and wicked cool mod!!!
I love touch!!
That was a problem with the razr version too. It said it was touch only. I know flashing, backup and restore work fine if you use touch. And USB support also works. I don't use anything else in recovery so i haven't tested the rest sorry.

I agree with everyone who finds that the on-boot CWM recovery is (though being just an extra step) can be irritating when testing new roms or whatever...
Are we talking about an "after boot" CWM recovery application-type mod here?
It works in the same way as the regular recovery its just uses the touch screen. If you have recovery on boot it should still work with that.

Thx Wug! I was wondering if you were going to update the toolkit to work with flo, and BAM! Here it is! Love your work, hope you keep at it. :good:
I did not chose twrp
I use 1.66 to root my nexus 7 (2012) and I did not check the (also flash custom recovery) first pass was pushing temporary twrp, and second it flash the twrp.
Why? I get a real problem with twrp with the 4.3 update, so I did not want it in my device.
Is this a bug in the toolkit? or there is a reason why the twrp is push without asking to flash?
Still the best toolkit I ever use.
You may want to change the main body font. It's almost impossible to read on the xda app with the dark theme selected

Thanks for your work. I first ran and used the "raw driver" install. Went to step 3 and ran the "check". "Success"! When installing Root & Recovery, it gets to the point where it says pushing root files to device, but when it's supposed to boot into TWRP, it boots into system "android man with red exclamation mark on his belly" mode. Tried it twice with the same result. Any ideas? I did notice that in Device Mgr "portable devices" isn't showing at all. However in Prompt mode, an "adb devices" shows device serial #. It's as if TWRP wasn't flashed correctly.

Same issue I'm having.
Thanks for the app! Unlocking went fine, I'm hesitant to root if it's going to leave me with TWRP even if I leave that field unchecked, anyone else have the same problem as Lachaine? Or has anyone successfully gained root and maintained stock recovery with this?

Yes don't forget to restart the toolkit before trying again. Worked for me when I did. Thanks wug!
Having an issue. Stock build# is JWR66N but is not listed, so i choose the closest one, JWR66V. So far it installed the adb drivers but fails on the Full Driver Test and Checking ADB Status. The device shows up perfectly now in DM, as a Nexus7, so the drivers have a clean install. Rebooted 2-3 times already. I can go to the adb command line and its installed but not sure why the app or PC doesn't see it setup right? I cant continue to the next steps if adb is not right...lol
