[HOWTO] Manually Flash Koush's ClockworkMod Recovery (If You Are Already Rooted) - Hero CDMA Android Development

1. Find the recovery image you want and MAKE SURE IT IS FOR YOUR PHONE (should say in where you download it what phone it is for).
2. Write down the filename of the recovery image EXACTLY as it is written (i.e. recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.1-heroc.img).
3. Put the recovery image file on the SD card (not in any folders).
4. Download Terminal from the Market if you don't already have it and install it (there are a few different terminals in the Market some have an onscreen keyboard and some don't experiment till you get one, also hold down Menu in some of them to bring up the onscreen keyboard if you don't see it).
5. Open the Terminal program and type the following (with hitting enter at the end of each line).
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/name-of-recovery.img
6. In the above text, replace name-of-recovery.img with the name of your recovery image (make sure the .img is on the end).
7. Phone should pause for a second and then show you a new blank line. Turn it off and back on by holding down Home and Power to ensure it flashed correctly. Done.

Step By Step Way to root Using Flashrec(Updated 4/5)

This video I posted is to help people get the custom rom installed which will enable root. This is for people who do not want to go the adb shell way. This method is simpler but will require you to flash a custom ROM onto your phone. You will not have to download the SDK for this method.
*** Use at your own risk. Although i have not come across any one on forums who bricked their phone, there is sill a possibility that this can brick your phone. I take no responsibility if you brick your phone.**
Have tested this on Windows 7 and Windows Xp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdmkTFAG3PM
Hey everyone, I made a video on this, and some people said I should do a step by step guide, so here goes.
First things first, you are going to need to download these files.
flashrec -- http://zenthought.org/system/files/asset/2/flashrec-1.1.3-20091107-2.apk
Amon RA Recover Image 1.6.2 -- http://rapidshare.com/files/360288584/recovery-RA-heroc-v1.6.2.img
Amon RA Recover Image 1.6.2 Mirror -- http://www.4shared.com/file/257274510/180ea19a/recovery-RA-heroc-v162.html
[ROM] MoDaCo 1.1 Custom ROM (has firmware 1.5) -- http://content.modaco.net/hero/1.1-update-heroc-modacocustomrom-core-signed.zip
OR
[ROM] DamageControl v 2.05 (has firmware 2.1) --

OR
[ROM] Fresh Rom 2.0d (has firmware 2.1) --
http://geekfor.me/new-release/fresh-20d
Do not extract the Rom zip file, it needs to stay in the zip.
Ok, lets do this in steps, should make it easier:
Step 1: Mount the sd card and place all the files downloaded onto the root of the sdcard.
Step 2: Download some sort of file manager, ex Estrongs File Manager, and run/open the flashrec apk.
Step 3: Once it's finished installing, unplug the usb cable, run the app, and hit the button, "backup recovery image". If you get an error, try rebooting your phone, make sure the usb cable is unplugged.
Step 4: Exit app, and mount the sd card again, and move recovery-backup.img to your desktop, then rename recovery-RA-heroc-v1.6.2.img to recovery-backup.img
Step 5: Unmount sdcard, unplug usb cable, and go back into the flashrec app(should be named recovery flasher in all programs list)
Step 6: hit restore backup image. Once finished flashing, power down phone.
Step 7: After you power down your phone, hold the Vol Down button, then hold down the power button. Phone should boot into hboot. Press home for recovery.
Step 8: To ensure you have a backup of your phone before we continue, do a nandroid v2.2 backup.
Step 9: After the nandroid backup is complete, you can now choose apply "sd card update choose", and choose the modaco or damage control rom
Step 10: Reboot your phone and you should be all set.
Any issues or anything unclear, let me know and I will try to help make it clear.

Nope. Same thing. I backup and it says backup complete. I enter recovery.img into the blank field (which is what I renamed the img file to) and hit restore and it says flash complete (or something). Then, I turn off my phone, reboot in hboot mode, hit home, get the HTC logo, then bam-- scary warning/dead phone symbol.
I'm gonna try one more thing....

Ok, let's try this. Rename the recovery img file to the name that flash rec makes. It should be recovery-backup.img . This method is said not to work with some phones. If this is correct, you're going to have to use the other method.
Rename it and then do flash rec again, or rename it and go straight to the hboot sequence?

Nexus s problem while unlocking bootloader

I was unlocking the bootloader so i could root the phone. I was successful but now my phone is stuck on the google screen with the unlocked pad at the bottom.
Through the forum i found that i'm missing the boot image so i found that.
I pulled in my phone to the computer and typed "fastboot flash boot test_boot.img". it comes up with "error: cannot load test_boot"
The same thing happened when i tried to "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" aswell to try and fix it that way but the same error came up.
I made sure the file names were correct.
Please help!!

do you have the proper drivers installed? if not, go directly to PdaNets website http://junefabrics.com/android/ and have it install the proper drivers onto your computer. this way is by far the easiest way to install the drivers. download and install the free program then just follow the directions on the screen.

Okay, yeah. I see the problem, your extensions are hidden "recovery.img" is actually "recovery.img.img" so you're fastbooting a invalid file. What I want you to do is on the top left of a Windows explorer, it says Organize. Press that and go to folder options -> view -> hide extensions for known file types (UNCHECK THIS). Rename recovery.img.img so it appears as recovery.img not recovery.img.img
Put your phone in bootloader mode if it isn't already with USB plugged in.
The phone needs to be in bootloader mode in order for it to recognize the fastboot command.

yeah that meant it worked. you can access clockwork menu by going down to RECOVERY in the menu or "adb reboot recovery"
you install a ROM by...
1. Shop around the Dev forums and look for what ROM you want to use. I personally use CM7.
2. Use netarchy's kernel (its worth it).
Steps:
1. Put ROM onto your sdcard
2. Boot into Clockwork Recovery (told you above on how to do it)
3. Wipe Factory, Dalvik, Cache
4. Flash ROM (Proceed to flash CM7 Gapps afterwards if you decide to go with CM7)
5. Flash Kernel (Optional)
6. Reboot!
Ahhh, i updated without looking at your post first. Can i put the kernal on now that ive rebooted?
thank you for your help and time

Do you want to reboot and your rom doesn't have that shortcut?
Do you want to enter the recovery and you don't want to enter the line manually into the terminal?
Do you want to enter your bootloader to use fastboot and there is no way reboot into it?
Be afraid no more! This simple application gives you 3 shortcuts to do all these tasks without having to type it into command lines. You just need root permissions and you're good to go!!!
It only does what it's advertised, nothing else.
Can't be easier than this.

New update:
v4p10
1 - Add Soft Reboot option to reload the UI without hard rebooting the device
2 - Add option to reboot into Safe Mode
3 - Now sending a system broadcast that the device is going to reboot so that it safely flushes any outstanding data for a clean reboot operation
4 - Decrease the priority of the background threads of each request to prevent any type of starvation
5 - Fixed one FC that could be triggered if a View was null for some weird reason

I get a "Values not applied. Unclean shutdown, values not applied" from NoFillsCPUControl when I reboot using SimpleReboot as installed from the PlayStore on my N5 under AOSP. I'm running PHH's su, if that makes a difference.
When I install the app directly to /system/app (create folder, copy APK, rename, permissions, etc.) everything works as expected with no "unclean shutdown" error.
Should this be happening?
Well, it was working. Now I'm getting the "Values not applied. Unclean shutdown, values not applied" with it put in system as well. I get a toast from su letting me know it's given permission. I can open a terminal and type "su -c 'svc power shutdown'" or "su -c 'svc power reboot'", and it (very) quickly works and returns without error.

I hope you´ve runned SUTLR successfully otherwise it wont work.
Run SuperOneClick as administrator (right-click on SuperOneClick.exe -> run as administrator).
Before clicking on "root" in SOC set the Exploit (top right corner) to "ZergRush".
Be aware you´ve reconnected your phone after activing "USB-Debugging".
Normaly it should work if you keep the steps in mind.
Report if you were successfull

Then try it with this:
1. Download this pack here.
This is a update.zip to gain root via CWM.
2. Copy the files to your sd-card
3. Run Temp-CWM (HowTo discribed here)
4. Choose "Flash .zip from sdcard" and select the .zip you´ve downloaded in step 1.
5. Reboot
6. Run root checker (playstore) or something else to test

[GUIDE] Enable Multi-Window Mode on Android 6.0 Marshmallow

There's a hidden feature in Android 6.0, multi window. It has its warnings:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So decide if this is actually for you before following these steps
It's not shown in user builds, so we have to do some messing. You'll either need root or a custom recovery to do this, but as not everyone wants root, here's how you do it with TWRP, a USB cable, and a PC with ADB:
1. Boot your device into recovery
2. Mount your system by going to Mounts > Tick System
3. On your PC open a command line, somewhere like your desktop is useful
4. Type the following command:
HTML:
adb pull /system/build.prop
5. Open the build.prop file with your favourite (decent) editor, I recommend using Notepad++ on Windows
6. Find the "ro.build.type" line
7. Change the text after = to "userdebug" from "user"
BONUS: If you want a nicer DPI here, change the line "ro.sf.lcd_density" to your preferred DPI
8. Save the file
9. Go back to the command line and enter the following command:
HTML:
adb push build.prop /system/
10. Now open a shell doing:
HTML:
adb shell
11. Now a adb shell will open, enter these commands:
HTML:
cd system
chmod 644 build.prop
12. Reboot the device as normal
13. When the device has booted, go to the developer options
14. Scroll down to the bottom of the "Drawing" category
15. Enable multi-window and have some fun!
If you're rooted...
1. Download "Build.prop editor"
2. Find "ro.build.type"
3. Edit it to have the value "userdebug" from "user"
4. Reboot when prompted
5. When the device has booted, go to the developer options
6. Scroll down to the bottom of the "Drawing" category
7. Enable multi-window and have some fun!
Worked ! Thanks
Such a shame the Keynote didn't introduce such feature, it's stable enough. Just think of the use of the feature on a 10" tablet.
works perfect thank you !
How do you use it after enabling?

Go recent menu, on the apps beside the x there's a button to choose the top half or second half.
Multirom users can go /data/media/multirom/roms/ and edit the build prop directly there, no need to use adb. I did it without using a PC
I flashed the latest hammerhead twrp with fastboot command, it was successful, but when I reboot bootloader and choose recovery, it keeps loads forever and sometimes the screen flashes black. I tried CWM after that, it said root needed. How do you guys got recovery on M?

Nope. I tried doing the "push/pull files" and it didn't work. You can install custom Recovery with WugFresh then follow these instructions.

Can you send your build.prop to me via pm. I can make a flashable zip for you
Hello people, I have multirom installed on my nexus 5, the primary rom is 5.1.1 (LMY48B), and my secondary rom is the developer preview MPZ44Q. I want to know if it's possible to enable multi-window mode since the M preview is installed as secondary rom.
I did it. Reboot into recovery. Swap the Roms. Don't reboot . reboot into recovery again from the reboot tab. Select multiboot tab just to ensure you are OK and the M ROM is the internal.. Mount system and do what the op says. Reboot into recovery again swap Roms again . reboot system and you should be OK. Takes like a half an hour to do though
PS. NEVER FIX SU. ALWAYS SKIP
I understood that if i try to install su on the M rom, it will result in bootloop. And my internal rom is stock ROOTED. So do you think it will work ?
When i will swap the roms, the fact that my primary rom is rooted, will it cause any problem ? Thanks in advance.
Nope my primary is still rooted. And I an typing this from my secondary M ROM with multi window enabled. All you have to do is never fix su for either ROM and never boot the system with M as your primary ROM and you are ok
Help me too
