NS4G - I'm receiving this error when trying to flash a rom (picture included) - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently running a stock rooted 2.3.4 rom on my rooted nexus s 4g and I'm trying to flash the latest cyanogen nightly and keep receiving a message in clockwork saying it couldn't flash the file. It seems to do it with every rom I try to flash so I'm not sure what's going on with it. I wiped data, cache, and dalvik cash and received this error message:

I flashed the one available in one of the original ns4g rooting threads when it was first released. How can I flash the correct one?

I can tell its the wrong one by the error message and the recovery version.
Flash the one in my signature. Be sure to download the ns4g one.

Forgive my ignorance, but how do I install the .img file? I typically only install things by flashing through clockwork. Thanks for the help

I used to have it setup on my bootcamp partition on my mac, but unfortunately had to wipe it. So at the moment I don't. I tried following this in terminal emulator, but it said the image wasn't found.
su(press enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/3014cw.img(press enter)
reboot recovery(press enter)
And I did rename mine to 3014cw, still didn't work

That should've worked.
If not, go ahead and download "ROM Manager" from the Market, and install CWM that way.

Thanks for the help. I just flashed it through rom manager for the time being....I guess I should have just tried that in the first place!

Not a problem. I didn't think of it either, as I don't normally use ROM Manager, because I usually use adb/fastboot.
When you have the time try and set that back up. It makes things like this easier.

[DEV] 09/June v1.8.1.7 - fake-flash by Koush, launching recovery without a PC

THIS WILL NOT WORK ON UNREVOKED ROOT.
paulobrien said:
This morning, Koush and I have been working on / stumbling through getting recovery running on a Evo without using a PC for devices rooted with a test image. The same technique also applies to the Legend and Desire. Presenting...
fake-flash!
Fake-flash using a similar concept to the original root method, it launches a recovery image from the test image recovery, but instead of pushing the files from a PC, the files are extracted from an update.zip on the SD card.
Click to collapse
You can now download and install the recovery via ROM Manager! It's a free app on the Market. Buy the premium version to support my work!
ROM Manager will ALSO install the recovery update.zip to /sdcard/update.zip. So if you ever hose your installation, simply start up in test/stock recovery mode, and navigate to apply sdcard:update.zip! And you'll be in ClockworkMod recovery!
Preparation
Download the fake-flash update zip from one of the links below
Copy the update.zip to the root of your SD card (the name MUST remain as update.zip)
When you want to launch the recovery image
Turn on your device with 'volume down' pressed and select 'Recovery'
When the exclamation mark appears, press and hold 'volume up' then press 'power'
Select the second option, 'Apply sdcard:update.zip
That's it, ClockworkMod recovery should launch!
ROM Manager is by FAR the easiest way to install this. It's free! Go get it! For manual installation, use the following link:
http://www.droidaftermarket.com/koush/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-1.8.1.7-supersonic.zip

thank you getting sick of having to be around a computer to change roms very much appreciated
are there any roots that work with the new .6 update? other than unrevoked?
Link doesn't work on my evo
Koush?
Can this be done from the ota update or do i have to flash back to the first original stock evo rom?
I don't see wipe davlik cache, only cache altogether. i'm assuming this wipes the dalvik as well, is this true?
Can some 1 post thr links again I cant find them
I'm speechless Great job
So do we need to rename the download in the original post to update.zip since it is something else by default?
Edit: Nevermind. ROM Manager is bad-ass (except that reboot into recovery doesn't work).

Hay rto i figured it out. Thanks for your help.
First of all, Congratulations and thanks for this tool.
In the part of flash, he says that flash firmware...boot.img and recovery too, of course..
Is it true? Is it a possible flash a Rom from this tool?? or...isn´t the same??
When I touch the option he says, that it is possible that it has to return to flash, if it is a Firmware.zip.
Big Thx.

Flash firmware will be used only when you want to flash the hBoot update! nothing related to roms
when you flash the firmware you upgrade the bootloader and this can't be undone. when you will receive the OTA update for JB, probably htc will upgrade automatically your firmware, but, if you are using a custom rom, you ned to do this manually. For now i've not included this procedure for the One s ( i have a One X and the commands are not the same due to different SoC). When the update will be available for you i'll update my tool with the automated procedure
I know, anybody is talking about flash roms. Was only a question...excuse me, please.
Great!
All is clear for my now..
Thanks, a lot, again.

The picture isnt showing....
But ur recovery may need to be updated.
Can u flash one of ur backups?
If so, boot up and update ur recovery.
Then just make sure u have correct ROM version for ur phone.
I hope that helps.

There I fixed the picture, but no I cant flash any of my backups because I deleted them for some reason some earlier backup was not working and the second one I delete it by accident. And the roms form my cell I have been getting the right ones from nexusshacks.com and cyanogen website. I was thinking in something more like pushing the rom thru a computers comand prompt thast my next step.

Do you consider updating your recovery and rom?
My next step will be using the odin called tool for restoring everything. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi cofface, thank you for your recovery and root.
I have a question. Your recovery make backup with strange path - /data/media/, but user-accessed area of inner-memory have path - /data/media/0. So we don't have easy access to backup via PC connection. Is this possible to change path for backup?

On the split screen, can you confirm that 2.6.3.0 is actually on the device, or if it failed despite what fastboot said.

Look up Buster's recovery script in the general section and try using that. It should reset the device completely.

Hi,

My personal advice would be to flash 2.6.3.1 TWRP and then install a KitKat ROM, or CM11 in your case. It is much faster anyways.
I chose omnirom instead thanks for your help
