Why am I not allowed to ask a simple question in the developers forums???? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm sorry XDA but this wait ten post thing is retarted. I have to come to Q and A to ask a question that is relevant to something int the developers forums? No one replies to anything in the Q&A anyway. Just my little rant...sorry.

Whets your question and was it a new post you wanted to make?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Its to try and reduce spam made in the developer forum. Most questions have already been answered in various threads anyways. Unless its something odd or unique

I just wanted to ask a question in the tastemybeans thread which just received an update today. Since the OP didn't put up a change log I simply wanted to ask if the simultaneous voice and data was fixed in the current build. No one else asked this question but this site makes it impossible to new members to ask a simple question like that.

Because new members generally post new threads in the dev section. They don't read the rules.
I know a lot of others think what I do, there should be a test before getting to post in the dev section. If you fail, no posting, if you pass but don't follow the rules, instant ban.

Taste of beans is just a slightly modified version of incubus26jc tw jb. Follow the incubus26jc thread if you want to see whats coming out. Incubus26jc has been doing all the heavy lifting.
And if you bothered to read the taste of beans thread you would see that remfi said he won't post a change log.
And that is why you cannot post in dev.

It would have taken you half the time to flash it and find out then to come here/whine/artificially inflate your post count.
But hey congrats, you are halfway there to being eligible to clog other people's threads on the Development Board :good:

douchey much? you guys are the XDA elite and know so much!!! seriously though did you get punked a lot at school by the bullies so you have to bully here? no one i know who has a real life with either school or a job has time to read every post of every thread, or even every post that shows up in a search one does for a particular topic. even then your bound to quickly skip by it if you are skimming. so instead of being dicks welcome a new member to the community and embrace. either way if the OP wants to reply to this thread 5 for times so you get 10 posts go for it... **** everyone else .i think your question and reason to post is legit and yes i read the rules and yes i have been an xda member probably longer than you have been alive.
looks like the OP has been a member for a while too.. just a lurker and not a poster which to me means he better understands the rules more than anyone

Which has nothing to do with the question I have to ask. The taste of beans was updated TODAY and the Question I wanted to ask was about an update TODAY so regardless if it this is the last update of that Rom or not still doesn't invalidate my question. And for your information I do look through before asking anything and I did also look through incubus26jc thread and realize touchof beans is based on that rom. I may be a noob to XDA (although I signed up a while ago just generally used other android sites) but I'm not new to the rooting, hacking and flashing game. I'm just saying you guys act so Elite in here compared to other sites and it's a very unfriendly atmosphere. You are the proof.

I actually like the ten post rule. I think it should be 50
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium

The rules are fantastic, I think it should be more than ten thanked posts personally.
The system works well to get you involved with all that's going on in our little neck of the site. I've enjoyed being active for the short time i have been and the process of being involved has answered most questions I would have posted prior as a complete noobs. If your just seeking answers and not participating there is no reason to even consider clogging the dev section.
It was cool to gain access to the dev area, but I have yet to post there. That's because I haven't needed to. Most things ARE covered in q&a.
Leave the devs alone, post your questions like everyone else and it will be answered.

Anyone here can be fair-minded and act as such.
You came here and unfortunately whined - I saw one of your earlier posts which had almost the exact same complaints at the time, responded to your post to explain that it's the common practice here and why, yet you never followed up.
Who is creating an unfriendly atmosphere?
You don't seem to be respecting the rules or even care to understand why they were written. We're all equal under such rules, except the Admins/Mods.

Well in the interest of stopping this thread before people start getting bana, no the voice and data it's not fixed and according to the incubus thread probably will not be until we see Verizon leaks (since beans is based off incubus).

i will play both devils advocate AND supporter of the rules here...
first i just signed up for an account today and tried to post a q in dev and got booted, so i am in q and a answering post to "prove myself" while i dont like the hassle i understand that someone (maybe alot of people) will come here and download a rom, not follow instructions, then try and flame hard working devs or post questions that have been answered over and over. this HAS to be annoying to other logn term members so i understand the ruels in place...
On the flip side i have been actively reading XDA for a while now, i just never posted questions or thanks... however on a post like the kellywiz rom (which is GREAT, using it now with a few reboots but nothing major) their are 187 pages of comments, do you really expect me to read through all pages to find an answer? i dont... i read the last 5 pages or so and if i dont see anything relevant to my issue i goto ask a question...
I see alot of repeat questions on here, not in separate threads (although i only read threads i am interested in) but multiple "useless" seeming coments to post that ask about a problem that was already answered a few pages ago, but the comment's poster asked again, and they have over 100 post to their credit, but they dont read through post either, so whats the actual difference?
i am not bucikng the system, i have belonged to many forums, but long time posters can be just as or more annoying then new posters...

Good response man. It's like starting a new job, no matter your skill set your gonna be treated as inferior. It's just important to follow the rules and not get mad. Strong thought out arguments should go far and set a precedence for the type of user you are.

Community issues: Campaign for a fresh start

Hi guys,
You probably already know me from my other threads, mostly the support thread. If not, I would like to give a brief introduction: in june, I received an upgrade from at&t and decided to purchase the infuse 4g my first android phone.
I was thrilled with its performance, and the community started off strong. ROM's were coming out surprisingly fast, actually too fast for me to figure out which one I liked best.
I began to see that the developers threads were getting cluttered up with silly, often repeated questions, so I created a support thread to help lessen the load for the devs. I know it wasn't a perfect solution, but I helped build a small team of people who have been incredibly helpful so far, who I am beyond impressed with.
Now comes the bad part. Even my support thread, originally designed to avoid clutter, has become a landfill of lazy people who don't look for the answer to their question which has been asked and answered 30 times already.
All the devs have been subjected to so much bs that they are afraid to even release their work. Everyone flames everyone like crazy, but none of you guys can help the community. I am disgusted by most of your behaviors, and hope that you see how childish your arguments are.
Now, for my point: this community is still young, and we have accomplished so much already. We have the chance to have one of the strongest development teams out there, and a kick-ass community, in which we look out for each other's best interest.
I would like to propose a way to get things started again: we need a campaign to delete clutter/flame.
Neo works hard, but we need to help him out. Everyone, I urge you to look through your posts, find bad ones, and mark them in some way to be deleted. This is in order to resuscitate this potentially unbeatable community.
Thank you all, and I hope you understand my intentions

Moderator's(Neo) intervention was required as gtg's thread was going out of control.
as after his intervention members have started behaving themselves and Neo has removed/locked unnecessary threads this forum is at peace.
let the dead bury the dead and do not remind people again of what happened.
Just post relevant stuff and that is sufficient for everybody.
P.S.
if issues are not resolved then it never will be as no one will accept blame and any such thread will eventually result in blame game.
right now see that people are just paying attention to information, now calling them for campaign is also a distraction.

Hey, thanks for sharing your opinion with me in a respectful manner. However, I feel that the issue is not yet resolved, and the general forum is definitely the appropriate place to post it. The development is virtually at a standstill and I am not talking about gtg, but the other devs and would be devs who are now discouraged. I find that although your response was polite, it was completely inappropriate, especially considering what my original post stated. If you have an issue with my posts please message in private as opposed to calling me out/ racking up your post count.

I'm glad you guys are willing to help out in getting this show on the road. This can only be done by helpful members, especially the ones who read the rules and abide by them.
I think the main issue at hand is that people tend to speak their mind too often, in situations where a moderator should intervene. The best course of action is to report a post or PM a mod (for the Infuse, that's me ) and let them know what's going on.
I'm not on the board 24/7, so I too can miss stuff. But there are ALWAYS other mods who look after the Infuse forums when I can't, so reporting is the BEST thing you can do.
About "rebooting" the community: People are already getting annoyed by the lazy, demanding types, who don't use the search and just post another question which has been asked a million times before. Well, at least if it's in the Q&A forum, it's controlled. So that's our main focus for now: get people to ask their questions there, instead of the development or general forums.
This thread can stay open, as long as it's constructive criticism. All ideas are welcome, as long as it helps us out, right?

I wasn't aware that there was a Q&A forum until you mentioned it. I'm using the xda app and have the SAMSUNG Infuse 4g as my favorite, but within that category, the Q&A forum isn't listed. I clicked onto the forum tab and scrolled till I found the Q&A forum. Yeah people can search for it, but I wasn't even aware that forum existed. I just suggest adding the forum into the Infuse 4g category. I think there will be less questions asked in the wrong section if it was listed.

And I think another reason why we see a lot of similar topics being posted especially regarding support is because new users (like myself) feel we need support about our specific situation, even tho we may have already read a similar thrend. Its happened to me were I posted help and either ill get a smart reply ie "its been posted 10 times already" or they may reply with a link. The link will be exactly what I've already read but, the thrend doesn't 100% pertain to my situation so I'm afraid I may mess up even more if I follow those steps (its actually already happened,my first brick) This is why we may see a lot of repeat thrends. I usually will encourage my support giver to pm me but I hardly receive any.

Well, xda-developers is for... DEVELOPERS. Although most people on xda are in it for the custom roms and leeching of apps.
I agree there should be some kind of a "noob sandbox" where new users can ask their questions and get answers from more seasoned users/devs. But how do you guys propose we do that?

[Apology] Bring the Hox Community Together

This community here has been strong, informative and helpful to many Hox users. IMO, it has also been used to flame, disrespect, and challenge personal opinions in several threads. I myself have fallen into this pit. I just wanted everyone to read a thread posted in the EVO LTE forums from a person whom not only fell into this pit himself, but recognized it and publically corrected himself to better bring back his community. Im not implying anything against the Hox community, but just hope it can serve as an example, that we stand stronger united and can/will accomplish much more as individual minds coming together. Not individuals thinking a mind. Please click the link below, to read how this xda member noted his closed mindness, and forfeited it for the good of his community.

With this said, there are great feats still to be accomplished for the Hox devices. Let's all put our 2 cents in where we can, put away the other 98, and make these feats into accomplishments!!

You also have to understand the flip side of the coin. People come here and start threads to ask the same basic questions that people have answered 500 times already. Questions that would have been easily answered in 10 seconds had they done a search first. Its frustrating.
Yes, there are no stupid questions. Yes we were all noobs at one point. Part of learning is figuring basic out things yourself by doing some research though.

Agreed 100%. There are a million threads that could have been avoided simply by SEARCHING. If you can navigate to XDA using your browser, you have the skills necessary to use the search function. People are just lazy and don't want to do any reading, they'd rather someone just respond with an answer. Super annoying, my .02.

This. It is painfully evident when people don't search even though they say they do when and that's when I'll come in with a snarky post. You can't tell me you searched for the method to root 1.85 when there is a STICKY with the procedure in development, and 4 other threads on the first two pages of Q+A asking the same question, with people providing answers. Sorry, but I don't buy it. If you want me to put forth some effort into helping you, you must put forth the effort to help yourself first.
That all said, if it shows that you did do some research but still need some clarification on a few things, you betcha I will be willing to help to the best of my ability. I may be an asshole sometimes, but I am actually a really nice guy and I do enjoy helping people out. Just don't start our e-relationship on a lie ("I searched, I swear!") and we'll get along famously.
Training noobs, snarky fun posts, they help teach and make xda a fun place. Mostly, I'm referring to the heated debates, and hateful posts that have crippled some of our unreplacable threads and formed hatefulness between members. By all means, I love when an opportunity arises for me to get a few people to laugh, please, keep them coming when you see fit

I agree that there are times where a lot of us get really upset and lose our cool. And that we should try to keep that to a minimum.
But this isn't exactly a forum for extremely basic questions at the same time, even though we all have some from time to time, there are tons of other forums like that though. And some people are obviously trolling too ("HTC done it wrong" guy, lol....)
The only thing that ticks me off about this community are the "should I get a galaxy s3" threads. No one cares. This is an enthusiast forum for the HOX. If you want to talk gs3 go over there.
If this was a BMW enthusiast forum you would be flamed to hell if you wrote a topic like "should I switch to a mustang?".

XDA was a great place even when I joined during the GS1 era. However, it slowly turned into turned to crap with the success Android garnered though. Aside from the flame bait or post-purchase rationalization threads, the general user of this forum feels the developers OWE it to the users to make their devices better, for free. Not even joking. There were some people who expressed that in their posts in the Nexus S forums. Then there are the people who don't even bother to read instructions or stickies and when they brick their device they blame the developers. I like to help people as much as the next guy once being a noob myself, but it ain't fun when I answer the same question I know I answered last week.
Why don't we create a thread specifically for noobs, beginners in android, people who came from iphone and people that are lost in what to do..and put it in Dev thread..entitled "Lost,Confused and Dont know what to Do"..since I think everyone would go to the Dev Thread first before reading the General and Q&A thread..something like Help Support..where anybody can help...

So Mods reading this..please consider sumthing like this..it would be beneficial to the whole community..again..thanks for all the talent in this community.

Agreed. plus we do have quite a few comprehensive noobs guides already in place, but you need to be willing to read...
How many times do you see a question asked that was answered just a few posts prior within the same thread.
I applaud the vast majority of devs we have here for their patience for not getting pissed off when their thread gets completely derailed...
I'm by no means an expert but I do a lot of reading and I learn a lot of things, for the vast majority it's all here...

[Q] Stabile Rom that doesn't drain battery life?

Hey!
First of all sorry if this is a repost, but i just can't really figure things out on my own.
I have a samsung galaxy s 4g branded to t-mobile. I had a paranoid android rom installed, but it drained my battery quite a bit and i crashed a lot of times. Now i decided to simply install the stock rom, which works good for me. The only problem is that it my phone won't recognize my sim card. I had this problem before, but after installing a custom rom it worked fine.
Can somebody please tell me a good, stabile rom for the sgs4g, that doesn't drain the battery too much? Also i would need some instructions on how to get the rom installed properly.
Thanks for your help!
all roms use battery
hmm
Well yeah. But some do more and some less, right? I am just looking for a rom that is stabile and doesnt crash all the time. i am not looking for a unofficial beta or something, just for something that works, you know what i mean? :/
Try barebones, it works great for me. Its based off the stock GB rom so its really stable

Thanks!!
i installed cyanogenmod 9 yesterday, and i made a soft reset. Now my sim card works again, but the wifi signal is really bad. I will try out the barebones one
To go to stock ROM :
Use - Heimdall One Click posted here.
Try it and if you want some more features, while maintaining stock look and feel - I recommend using Barebone - here.

I've read your post , alright. It is nothing but a mere facade for your exploitation. You apologized ahead tells me that you knew that your question probably had been answered already in this forum, and yet you continued to post it. Rather than searching the forum, you resorted an easy route with an initial hollow apology and irrelevant reasons as a cover up of your real intention.

Nobody is saying not to help newbs here. You have misread the discussion here. It is not a matter of bothersome, it is much to do with the newbs showing interest in this community by first reading the threads. By posting the same question over and over again just showed me that these newbs are here for a quick answer and leave. And on the Net we have a term for that, they are considered "leechers."
There are many other newbs in this forum, and they don't act in this manner. I am always happy to help them within the scope of my knowledge.
When you say "if the post bother me then just move on," it tells me that either you are trying to avoid this issue and/or haven't put much thought in this matter.

THIS!
Either ignore the post and report it or just dont effing respond. Look at what woody said in the quote I posted above.
People need to learn to use the brain function called ignore. If people would just report posts/threads and not post some snarky retort threads would stay focused. But I digress.
One more thing, sometimes plane answer is the shortest way to close the discussion ...

AOKP has been perfectly stable, and given good battery life on both mine, and my wife's SGS4G's. She was running Valhalla Final and having constant reboots. Ran Gremlin Remover, and worked up to installing AOKP. Neither unit has had a single force close or reboot. I also swapped my stock OEM battery (which was going bad and part of the reason for the instability in my phone) which is 1650 mAh with an Anker 1800mAh battery. I can now get by on one charge a day, which is nice......there are likely some which are much more slim, but all depends on what your needs are.

The pointless threads will never end. And questions in General will never end. You would thinking checking Yes to "Is this a question?" and seeing the [Q] appear in the title would light a bulb in their heads telling them they should be posting in Q&A. But then again, you would also think that checkbox would automatically post it in Q&A.

Look, this is an apology to everyone about a post I submitted yesterday, but I am NOT sorry for what I was trying to say, I login to get information on different things, and in order to even get where you want to go, you have to sift thru the same stuff over and over, like today, 5 threads started with the same info I saw on tech news sites everywhere, so the google phone is going to be released, what in the heck does it have to be here, in this forum in 5 threads, I am looking for fixes not tech news. Again, an apology was in order. This post is to all that are here for the same purpose I am, to try different things out on our phones, can't we at least stay on that subject?
Lets move on please.

I know, I saw where you were trying to politely say that..Pretty soon, it is going to be full of this type stuff, but on another note, I think what is happening is everyone is getting in a hurry to do something with this device, and there is nothing more than root for 1st timers. And there will be alot of them, coming very soon, and the search option can be at times for new people a nightmare. We are going to be in trouble, or the moderators are going to be super busy with the volume that is fixing to flood this site.

That was removed because the report system was changed. But on the XDA App tap the message, hit more, hit open in Browser and you can then hit the triangle to report a post.
When you see redundant threads please report it and in the report link to the first or in the redundant thread to make it easier to close and redirect these useless threads.
Thanks guys :good:

You will have less to worry about because there will only be 10 people there to follow the rules.
The real reason that there are useless threads is because there are so many people checking in here. Most aren't your normal XDA member. Most just bought the phone and want to hang out somewhere to talk about it. They have no idea that the phone black clips, lags, or has a locked bootloader. They read threads, find problems that they weren't aware of and then ask questions.
These people also keep the numbers up and view the advertising that XDA needs to survive. So its not all one sided.

Blaze Owners, Any Problems With This Idea?

So Meticulus brought up an interesting point in his thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45773425#post45773425 about the Exhilarate and Blaze being merged into one forum here in XDA. I don't know if I'm violating any XDA rules here, but does anyone have an issue with them just starting to post their ROM's and what-not here in our forum? I don't see an issue as long as the title states which phone a particular something is for. If they get their own forum, great! If not, then they have a place to start putting their stuff for the other Exhilarate users. These guys have done amazing things for us and this is the least we can do.
Anyone have an issue with this? Am I stepping past what I can suggest on XDA?
