[Q] Huawei Ascend M860 CM7 Edit 2.3.5 - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Ok so last nite I hooked my ascend up to my borrowed laptop since the AC cord for my own laptop took a dump I accessed my micro SD card and retrieved a copy of my Playfulgod CM7 Rom uploaded it to the laptop. I browsed to 2.3.5/system/app I deleted protips.apk, voicesearch.apk, email.apk, dspmanager.apk, latinimetutorial.apk then added googlemaps.apk, gingerbreak.apk and a few others without un-zipping so as not to screw up the Rom sig. I stripped both Rom and gapps of Google books then uploaded edited Rom and gapps back to phone. Booted to CWM and deleted all necessary items (cache, boot, dalvik, etc) flashed modified Rom, flashed mod gappsgapps, flashed SMS off fix then robooted. After boot I am prompted to "press screen here" I sign into Gmail, I sync phone, I go through the motions hit finish it should go to the desktop right? Wrong it FC's saying android.setup.apk needs to DC hit ok?when I hit ok screen goes blank I can access my task bar and see my apps need updates I can update them as well. But I have no other access to the phone when I reboot it boot loops as if the Rom flash was unsuccessful. Any ideas on this?

Ok so I figured out which apk not to delete so install works fine now. However another issue has risen now upon fresh install "non market apps" remain in /apps within Rom but do not install due to the fact that "unknown sources" is by default un-checked is there a way to remedy this so my non market apps will install?

Zpad Setup Guide (SMB-A1002-3G) - Updated 14/03/2011

SETUP (USER) GUIDE FOR ZPAD with 3G (SMB-A1002-3G) AKA ZPAD T2
** UPDATED 14th March 2011 **
IMPORTANT NOTES for Zpad
Note 1 - Some software, eg Flash, is not on your ROM (maybe this was installed after manufacture). You need to back up these apps first. I'm not sure of all the apps, as I accidently wiped mine first, thinking they would all be on ROM. Fortunately the only one I did miss was Flash, and this can be added later (see below).
Note 2 - This is NOT my work. It's just the steps I followed to get MY Zpad working the way I wanted it (inc Market and Titanium Backup). People waaay smarter than me worked this out and credit should go to them.
Note 3. This is NOT a ROM, and you don't need to flash a ROM, the Zpad works FAST out of the box (I think Quadrant was 2450 (or 2350) from memory)
Note 4. I setup Wireless and Installed File Expert to access the files I needed from my Windows 7 computer.
1. Install Z4Root Version 1.3.0
This is needed to give you "Admin" Access to your device
1a. Install and Open and follow the steps on screen to Root your Zpad
2. Install Clockworkmod following these instuctions
NOTE: This "formats" your Zpad back to factory settings (your "Admin" access remains)
Original Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
2a. Download ClockworkMod v08 (This version has been found to work best...the newer version causes some issues with some ROMs.) There are two versions available; one for installing ClockworkMod from the internal memory, one for installing it from external memory (microSD/microSDHC card). Download from the original thread above. ** EDIT - It's recommended to use the Internal Memory File and remove your MicroSD card during install/setup **
2b. Unzip the file you chose (cwmod_internal.zip OR cwmod_microsd.zip) to the root folder on the storage option of your choice. This is SDCARD on the ZPAD.
2c. Rename the original Recovery Folder, and move the new Recovery folder from the above ZIP to SDCARD (should now be SDCARD\Recovery)
2d. Move update.zip to SDCARD
2e. Turn off your device.
2f. Press the power button and the Volume+ button at the same time and release them when the Malata splash screen pops up. You should see "Detect a recovery key pressed" pop up in the upper left corner of the screen.
2g. Watch ClockworkMod install. This will not take long. Your tablet will reboot when installation is complete. Nothing will look different unless you enter ClockworkMod by following the steps below…
Entering ClockworkMod:
If you want to get into ClockworkMod you need to shut down your device, then press the Power and Volume+ button (the same way you did to install ClockworkMod). Thankfully this time it will not automatically restart and wipe everything.
Navigating CWMod:
Vol+ and Vol- are to scroll up and down, the home button selects an option, and the back button backs up.
BACKUP ROM NOW!!!
(I installed Flash at this point, Version 10.1.95.22 seemed the only one that worked for me??)
3. Install Google Apps (including Market)
The file is; gapps-mdpi-tegra-20101020-signed.zip. You can download it by following the instructions in the thread below.
Original Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842590
Note: Some people have experienced problems with the Android/Google Apps Setup Wizard. I think this is related to Wifi only Zpad's? Thanks to Koaby for figuring out you can delete the setupwizard.apk from the cyanogen mod (gapps-mdpi-tegra-20101020-signed.zip). This fixes the problem.
Note 2: If you are having problems removing setupwizard.apk check out this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12069069&postcount=70
You only need these instructions
3a. Copy download to SDCARD
3b. Hold volume + and power to boot into recovery (go to "advanced")
3c. Choose, choose zip from sdcard
3d. Choose the zip to be applied as an update
3e. Let Zpad boot and complete GMail Login Details (I had problems here, but my GMail details were stored... not sure why)
4. Fix the Market
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245 (Part 3, step 3)
4a. Open the Market app. Once it loads close it (press the home button).
4b. Go into Settings – Applications – Manage Applications – Google Services Framework – Force Stop – Clear Data
4c. Go into Settings – Applications – Manage Applications – Market – Force Stop – Clear Data
4d. Go back to your home screen and open up the market. You should get an error. If not, redo steps 3 and 4 until you do.
4e. Reboot your device. After it starts back up let it sit for a minute or two to let things in the operating system normalize. Open the Market. Reboot your device.
4f. Open the market again and enjoy. You now have Flash and the Android Market. (Keep in mind, this is not the FULL market, it just makes around 99% of it available. It is unknown which apps are not available. There is a full market fix, but it is MUCH more complicated).
5. IMPROVED MARKET
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861044
(Edited out the bits not needed)
5a. Now you are going to re-do the original Market Fix. First, make sure Market is running, and browse around in it for a few seconds. If you don't do this, there may be no cache to clear and for some reason the market fix may not work. Then, go to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->Running and scroll down to Market. Then hit Clear Cache, followed by Force Stop **DO NOT CLEAR DATA FOR MARKET, JUST CACHE**. Then go back, scroll down to Google Services Framework, hit Clear Data, then Force Stop.
5b. Now try starting Market again and you get the famous Market Error. Now shut down the Zpad, then turn it back on. Wait for Wifi to connect to your network before doing anything!
5c. Now restart Market again. ..... Voila! A truly full market!
Applications I use that work on Zpad
Root Explorer - Access to Root Files (not needed for this setup)
Titanuim Backup - to Backup EVERYTHING after I set it up the way I wanted
Astro + Bluetooth Module
File Expert - To access Win7 PC
Spare Parts (version 2.2) - To see battery/cpu use
Pocket Cloud - Access work server
MoreLocale 2 - Set Location to Australia
Button Savior - So I've got buttons on the left side too
Touchdown - Sync with Exchange Server
MSN Talk - In case I gets some mates one day
Dolphin Browser HD, with addons; Google Translate, Tab History and AdBlooker
Launcher Pro - The Zpad interface is not that good
Lookout - Antivirus
I hope this helps, Mal.
Again, all credit to the original posters, I just thought best to share the steps I followed for other Zpad users.
PS: I have the original ROM from my Zpad. Happy to share if anyone can point me to the best place to upload it.
In case I forget anything or need to add more stuff
zpad just wifi no 3g
I,m assuming this works on the zpad without 3g only wifi as well. Could you confirm.
Thanks
It should work fine. Just make sure you do a backup before step 3 and you'll always be able to go back to standard.
Once it's all running, set it up the way you like, eg mail, apps etc, then install Titanium Backup an get a backup of your settings and apps.
Now if something ever goes wrong you'll be able to go back to your apps and settings or worst case back to Factory settings.
Thanks but issue
Hello
Thanks for your update. I followed your instructions and get to the welcome screen after installing the apps. It states touch the android to begin, which I do it clicks but nothing happens. Any suggestions.
I think from memory there was a "next" button that appeared on the bottom right, I think? It's just the GApps setup I think and I'm pretty sure you can skip it too. If not, try a reset again through clockwork. That's what I did and it seemed to work the second time??
If you have an SD Card in, try removing that and doing it again too.
Cheers, Mal.
Hello again
Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately I can't get passed the touch the android button. bottom right is a button to change language, and bottom left is a button for emergency call.
Reloaded it about 10 times now and no luck. If you think of something let me know.
You did touch the Android Man in the middle right (sorry if you have just thought I'd check).
You could try plugging in a USB mouse, something has gone weird with your touch screen I think???
Same Problem Cannot pass the android men!
Can you talk me through what happened?
You installed clockworkmod, backed up the ROM, then let the system boot. Did everything work at this point?
Then you copied the gapps and rebooted but entering recovery this time. You selected the gapps zip and let it boot. This is where its got to the Android man and you couldn't get past right??
Yes, I try to bypass the ANDROID man welcome but nothing seems to work I redo all the steps several times now. I long press the home and acces app killer, even go to setting an try to shutdown all running apps but nothing happen. Mine is the SMB-1002-WIFI model. all help will be appreciated. And thanks
Did you set your wifi up and have internet access. You need this when you start it up as it will try to log on with your gmail account from memory.
Yes I did connect to the WIFI with no problem, really fast indeed. I also have acces to the system settings by long press the home butom, but cannot go by the android man everything else is hid behind
I think the Android man is the google apps setup wizard. Maybe I had my gmail setup already and that's why it seemed to work?? Give that a try if you can?
I think I forced closed the setup wizard on mine and that seemed to work too.
Let me know.
Backup of Rom
Hi,
Are you able to post a copy of a backup of your original Rom as I only have the chinese version and I don't know how to use the 3g.
Thanks
Jonesie
Yep, happy to upload my stock ROM.
Can anyone recommend a place to upload my ROM. It's about 230Mb in total, so I need a place that can take files over the usual 200mb limit.
hotfile.com seems to have an upload limit of 400MB.
And you can download free. It's like rapidshare, only seems to have faster download.
I try everything, but nothing seems to work. All the apps run smoothly behind the "Android men" (SetupWizard)
I Force Stop Setup wizard - when try to go home setup wizard start again
any ideas are welcome
Can you enter your Gmail account by opening the Gmail app? That may work?
Yes I do with no succes.
I came up with a cheap solution.
First I delete the setupwizard.apk from the cyanogen mod (gapps-mdpi-tegra-20101020-signed.zip)
I follow your guide step by step *include the installation of flash
Infamous "Android Man" is no more!
I create a google account, No problem
So far everything is working. I will keep you updated

[Q] Rooted EVO needs help after new kernel flashed.

I rooted my HTC EVO, then wanted a new kernel for better battery, wanted the new gingerbread ROM too but after I rooted, I deleted a few unwanted, stock apps. After I did this, I started to get a lot of force close messages. Certain apps won't even open. So I tried to unzip a new kernel and I wiped all my data from the hboot. Now it starts up, will go to locked home screen. I try to unlock it, it's the white htc screen then loads into the set up (i.e. keyboard usage, etc) and in the last step a force close message pops up then goes through the whole scenario again. Now I want to just put a whole new system on so I can have my evo back. HELP?

Download the rom, kernel, and Gapps (http://www.goo-inside.me/gapps/latest/7/) on your computer. Boot into recovery. I don't use Clockwork, and I'm assuming you rooted with Unrevoked, so that's probably the recovery you have, but try to find the option to mount your SD card via USB, and move the files to your SD card. Do not unzip them. They must be .zip files. Unmount your SD card, wipe your data, wipe your cache, wipe your Dalvik cache, repeat all the wipes at least one more time, then flash the .zips in this order: 1. ROM 2. Gapps 3. kernel. Then reboot, and you should have a working system.
If you use ROM Manager and created a backup then you could flash (install) the OTA ROM Sprint sent out a few months back. This OTA ROM will be for the Rooted evo, so you won't lose root. Go to youtube.com and search this, "How to install new Sprint Htc Evo OTA 3.29.651.5 and keep root." In his comments he'll provide the link to that zip file and you can flash it from the recovery mode. Make sure you wipe the dalvik/cache and then flash zip file from sd card. It will appear to look like your initial problem but it will get passed the white htc screen. You could turn it off and turn it on again if HTC screen stays longer than 10 min. Once the ROM kicks in, you'll notice its stripped of all your cusomizations. If you used rom manager to back up your ROM then redownload ROM manager from market and the superuser app that came with the OTA zip file will allow ROM manager to run. At that point select manager and restore backups from ROM manager and select your backup and it should put you back to where you were prior to the problem.
Sorry so long, but I'm very detailed and don't want to assume you know what I'm talking about.
P.S. similar situation happened to me yesterday I fixed my issue like described above.
Another Thing haha, don't delete your stock apps just freeze them using Titanium backup. Freezing does the same thing for battery life. You wont see them in app drawer and they wont run in background.

[GUIDE] How I Root, Recover and Optimize Stock 2.1

Hey guys,
Dont get me wrong, im pretty much a noob myself Nowadays alot of developement is going on with the new ROMS, till they are finished I needed a stable ROM and I have to admit nothing is better than good old stock 2.1, but to get it in useable condition you do have to do some tinkering. This guide is aimed at people who have just rooted their phones and want to know what they can do, or for people who want new ideas if they are going back to stock 2.1. Its just a collection of things I do, when I flash stock 2.1.
Please be aware, that although these instructions are accurate to my knowledge, sometimes there are problems, so do not try this if you dont feel comfortable with any of the instructions.
1. Which SBF?
The stock cincinnati bell 2.1 is the most current and the most updated version of all the SBF's. Unless you are uprading to a new ROM which require another type of base SBF this is the way to go for 2.1. It makes no regional differences that I know off, you may have to put in your APN settings. Reasons for using this SBF is, first its the most updated, most stable and reportedly has best camera quality of all the SBF's, plus it is set to 720 MHZ by default. The SBF code is:
Code:
STR_U2_04.1E.1_SIGNED_USASHLSTAB14P2XAPCNCBW039.0R_NACBW_P011_A006_HWp3_1FF.sbf
2. How to Root?
Once you have flashed your SBF, using either RSD lite in windows or sbf_flash in linux, the easiest way to root is using the universal androot app. Install the app on your phone, open the app and click the root button. A little heads up here, you need to be connected to either wifi or the data network before you use the app because to root the phone the app uses an exploit which requires wifi to be toggled. If it isnt on, it will not work. With the wifi on, press root and you're done. The newest stable UniversalAndroot can be found at this link.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/32033772/UniversalAndroot_1.6.1.apk
3. What can I do after rooting?
First of all you can install Open Recovery + Androidiani Recovery. What these are, are custom recoveries with which you can make nandroid backups, wipe reset your phone and cache and apply neat tweaks to make your phone work better on 2.1. To install open recovery download the openrecovery.apk from the following link.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/32033772/OpenRecovery.apk
Install the openrecovery app. And reboot your phone once. After the reboot, connect your phone to the PC and create a folder called nandroid and inside that creat a folder called openrecovery. And place it into the root of the SD card.
Code:
nandroid>>openrecovery
Disconnect your phone from the PC. Now open the openrecovery app. And press install recovery. A superuser request will appear. Allow it and open recovery will install on your phone and create the neccessary folders on your SD card. Now connect your phone to the PC its time to install androidiani recovery. Download the Androidiani recovery here.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/32033772/OpenRecovery-3_3.zip
Unzip the file. You will see one folder and one update file. Copy the folder and paste it into the root of your SD card. You will notice that the computer will prompt you because there is already an open recovery folder in your SD card. Allow the computer to replace, the old folder with the new one that you are pasting. Then copy the update.zip and just place it in the root of your SD card. You are all set and have installed openrecovery.
What can I do with Androidiani?
Turn off your phone. Now press the volume up button and keep it pressed, while pressing the power on button. The phone will boot into androidiani recovery. Use the volume keys to navigate up and down in the menu and use the camera button to select an option. You will see numerous options in androidiani. The first thing to do is go in the Eclair Modding menu.
I usually do the following things.
1) Install memhack: This moves your /cache folder and allow for lots of apps to be installed so your 173 mb app space will not limit you, which is usually why people want to move to froyo in the first place.
2) Install JITV7
3) Eclair Kernel Modification: This installs busy box and increases functionality.
4) Zipalign Apps. This allows less ram to be consumed when you use apps. I usually zipallign system wide.
Reboot your phone normally, after mods are complete.
4. System app removal?
Useless system apps can safely be removed to make space for more apps. I install titanium backup from the market and use it to uninstall apps. Here is the list of apps I usually remove safely.
1. Gestures.apk (Motorola sign gestures, useless app never used it)
2. Corporate Calender
3. Corporate Directory
4. Quickoffice Trial
5. Kickback
6. Soundback
7. TalkBack
8. MotoAccuweather.
5,6,7 are accesibility apps which can easily be redownloaded from the market. Accuweather isnt accurate and I have the stock AOSP geniewidget which is so much more sexier. Ill give the links to those.
GenieWeather & News 2.1: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/32033772/GenieWidget2.apk
Another app I install is the desk clock which is missing in 2.1:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/32033772/DeskClock.apk.
Okay once system apps are removed. What rooted apps can you use. There are many. Ill just state what I use when I newly Flash.
1) Root explorer, very good for navigation etc.
2) Market Enabler, i use it to install google+ and other apps not avaible in my country.
3) Battery Calibration, everytime you flash a new ROM its good reset your battery Stats.
5. Finally
You can just use your phone as usual. If your phone number format is different because of the US SBF, just choose a different language in keyboard and locale. Itll fix your dialer format.
I choose to not overclock. With wifi on 24/7 and autosync. A few odd phone calls, sms's, 1 hour of GPS when I walk, some gaming, and 2 hours of music. I get an average of 1.5-2 days battery life with this setup. My SD card is formatted completely to FAT32. After installing all my apps, and games. I have 102 MB remaining internal memory.
Hope this has been useful to anyone. Please feel free to make additions.
this is good. something ive been looking for. was on stock rom for a month rooted. very stable but was itching to try out cm6 so i did. ive tried deleting voice dialler with titanium backup but it was kind of not supposed to be deleted because android kept telling me "voice dialler force closed" and i couldnt do anything else so i restored it back. i dont need or want voice dialler. and it also keeps running as a service. any way to stop it?

Before you ever delete any system apps, you should use TB to freeze them first and see if once you do it causes any ill effects. If not, then uninstall but you can always back up so if you ever want it back, Viola there it is.

[Q] Infuse still won't runn right....

I've been trying to get this phone going for hours and hour, and it's still junk. This is what my phone does...
1. phone was one miui version .07
2. tried installing extended settings but the versions didn't match.
3. extended settings worked but other apps would not open or work.
4. reflashed miui version .07 and phone seemed fine.
5. downloaded newest version of miui, but phone would not allow me to boot into recovery.
6. used odin back to stock and started from scratch
7. after using odin my phone is having issues downloading apps
8. root explorer won't allow me to overwrite recovery.
9. many reboots and factory resets/clearing data etc, phone was finally allowing me to overwrite recovery.
10. flashed cwm and installed infused v1.6.
11. phone is again not allowing me to install any apps or roms.
12. I again did an odin back to stock and also did a factory reset
13. next i installed root manager and rom manager once the phone rebooted from factory reset.
14. both apps worked fine, so i than downloaded modded recovery and installed it and flashed cwm.
15. next i went to find rom manager in my app drawer to download rom but it was not there, in fact non of my root apps were there. i looked in superuser app, i see root and rom managers, but apps are not shown on my phone.
16. i than went to the market and searched rom manager, I than selected to install it even tho i never uninstalled it. My phone would than download app but would hang on the install phase.
17. odin back to stock and factory reset again.
18. opening market for the first time after reset, phone tells me i have updates available. phone is installing them automatically. all of them installed fine.
19. Market has changed to the new version.
20. downloaded and installed xda
21. powered phone down and removed sdcard, i do this before i root.
22. clicked usb debugging and ran super one click.
23. received message from super one click asking is my phone was 2.1 or higher (never seem that before, and i've ran this program a million times.
23. powered phone down and reinstalled sdcard.
24. opened market and downloaded free version of rom manager, and it again got hung up on the install phaze. Im going to try one more reboot.
25. after reboot i went back into the market and tried to install a random free app. The free app downloaded and installed fine.
26. next im going to try and install rom manager again. Rom manager installed fine.
27. next i'll try and install root explorer. app installed fine.
28. now im going to try a tip that i got, skip installing infused v1.6 with modded recovery and install infused v2.2.3 with community kernal. Kernal downloaded fine. next I'll install kernal flasher from market. Flasher installed fine.
29. I than installed community kernal.
30. now i'll try and delete recovery from root explorer. root explorer will not allow me to over write and delete recovery.
31. As it sits, I can not flash infused 2.2.3 because i can't delete recovery, I have been able to flash infused 1.6 and was able to over write and replace recovery with modded recovery but sooner or later i will not be able to install or download anything from web or market.
Sorry for this massively long post for help, I just wanted everything out in case there's someone out that that can help me. Also, i've cleared date, cache, files, cookies etc during this ordeal with little to no affect. The only think that i haven't done was format my sdcard, not sure it that'll help but i'm up for anything at this point.
Have you tried using another file explorer? I use ES because its free and I had some root writing issues myself but after rebooting they went away. Not sure if this helps you. Also there are two back to stocks for both Rogers and att..make sure you used the right one!
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA App
I had issues with downloading but I got a app from market called download all files and that fixed my issues.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
I finally got everything to work. I formated my sdcard and finally everything worked, not sure if that did anything but thanks tho.

Installing Play/Android Market App? (please see details)

My Nexus S 4G's power button stopped working. For better or for worse, I decided to install a new ROM without dealing with this problem. The install was fine, however I used ROM Manager to do it and for some reason it didn't install the gapps; I don't have the Google Play/Android Market app, and don't know how to get it. Keep in mind that my power button doesn't work, so I can't just install gapps from a .zip (which I do have but are unavailable).
Is there a way I can download the gapps with the default browser, or even just putting a file onto the SD? Even if it's just the market, I should be able to restore everything fine with that. Any help is appreciated, thank you.
1) download this file. http://db.tt/bJd0WZOq
3)install root explorer
2) copy the downloaded file to /system/app. Via root explorer
4) restart your phone!!
Hope this helped you!!

Ok so false alarm on the success. I managed to download the .apk of Titanium Backup and restore my apps and data, however my phone is not synched with a Google account (there was strangely no option for it when I booted the ROM) and I don't have any gapps nor do I have access to the market (Google Play Store closes immediately when I attempt to open it). Any suggestions for a solution?
I also installed the Gmail .apk and it also closes immediately.
Its simple .. you are not logged in!
Go to settings and then account and select Gmail or login to your Gmail
And synchronize it!!
It should fix the problem.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Well as I said, when booting the ROM there was no option for logging in. Strangely, there is also no option for Gmail under Accounts, only "Email", "Corporate", and "Dropbox". Could it be a problem with the ROM? I'm using Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) Milestone 4
Can you backup and flash a different ROM?
Well I suppose I could. I was hoping it wasn't a ROM issue, since I liked this ROM, but I if that's the heart of the issue than I have to.
