a few questions: RebelRom on Exhibit 4g - General Questions and Answers

Hey there everyone, I'm running RebelRom 3.0.8 on a Samsung Exhibit 4G and while it's a BEAUTIFULLY smooth and refined Rom (the best I've used out of the several I've checked out) I do have 2 issues I can't seem to resolve.
1. The wifi calling issue.. I've searched this forum high n low, but I've found no solution that is complete.
I saw that there are a few files in system and app that need to be placed (com.android.kineto.apk and libril_status.so, right?) but where would one put said files, and how, just es-file?
2. I cannot complete any downloads from either the play store, or from external sd. It hangs at "installing" and then reboots to the splash screen of rebelrom.
I wiped EVERYTHING, (rom, all caches and factory wipe), installed galaxyfinal for RebelRom, and then the theme fixes, and in any case it does the same thing.
Any help would be so great, and many many thanks to the awesome devs and contributors/testers etc for this lovely piece of software!
Thanks bpear96, jocala camcory and many others!!

Clear Droid Q&A

As some of you have come from the captivate know what I did there with Rom Q&A threads. I am doing the same here. In an effort to clean up the site. All Rom related question shall from now on be posted in the proper Q&A or will be deleted on sight.
So was it strange that I was never told this thread even existed and had no idea until just now? For anyone still having problems, a few troubleshooting techniques:
-When installing, are you sure you cleared cache and dalvik? If coming from a major release to a major release, did you do a full wipe instead?
-Are you using the proper radio, as posted in the first post of the thread?
-Are you using any task managers or antivirus apps?
i just flashed 1.2.11 to my phone which i decided to finally root after about 4 months, and i love it. I installed barnacle due to the stock hotspot debacle and when i go to use it it tells me that NAT is not connected. now here at work, where i am testing it, i dont have great connection but i can get 3g to work here. what does it mean when NAT does not connect?
Sorry, no answer here on the hotspot issue. Have you PMd Mister ClearD? He is very responsive and has been working hard on this whole hotspot issue... he'd likely be very interested in your problem.
I too am running 1.2.11, and am delighted with it. However, I am wondering if there is any way to get more volume out of the speaker for ringtones and alarms. I have them maxed out on the phone's adjustments, but it's still awfully quiet.
Michael look for an app called volume+ made by meltus I believe in the market. It works with gingerbread but not froyo. There is a few other fixes for the volume limit but I can't link them currently because I am on my phone. Do a search for it and it should come up. If someone doesn't post it up.

Thanks, got it and it does help!
i sent him a PM. if he gives an answer that works i will post it and let everyone know.
Hello,
Last night I flashed the latest ClearDroid ROM 1.1.51, but when I check under the software information menu, it says the Android version is 2.2.1
The flash seems to work because it says it's running Cleardroid.
Shouldn't it be running the Gingerbread (2.3) update or am I mistaken?
Also, the data connection seems to screw up, and only works when it wants. Sometimes ROM Manager will disappear from the apps menu.
I did a full wipe before flashing and it still won't work.
I also just flashed CoreDroid and it did update to 2.3 , but I want my stock HTC theme back!
Thanks!

The version 1.1.51 is still on froyo build but has the new ril for gingerbread. On the first page of the Dev post he has a link to the matching radio. Give it a flash and see if it helps with your data connection. If you want gingerbread his version 1.2.xx is the gingerbread Rom (still in beta), it has the fix for messaging but he is still working on tethering. It's still the stock look to the dot
On the app side I don't know what could be going on there, sorry I couldn't help on that point, (since I'm not having that particular error)

im personally running 1.2.12 RC2 which is his latest Beta, along with the suggested radio. i dont have any problems with network and it looks and behaves great while keeping that stock look. honestly i love this ROM. if you have any major questions just send ClearD a PM and he will get back to you. probably my favorite dev because he is so thorough and responsive to his followers.

to post my own answer ClearD told me that 1.2.12 has a working tether program. he is still working on making the stock tether work but for now the one he has included in the rom works great so no need for barnacle
Thanks Pytheous and Hiyabuz! I'll give the latest beta a shot because last night I flashed the rooted AT&T stock rom and my battery life improved but I'm still having data problems. Now I'm not sure if it's my cell company or the ROM that's causing the problems.
I'm afraid of flashing the radio and losing my signal completely!

This ROM, from what i can tell, is basically a stock ROM with all of the bloatware crap taken out, and a few cool gadgets added here and there. I love the ROM and the way it feels, but what i love the most is the responsiveness of the Dev for the ROM. If i have an issue i just send him a PM and he either sends me an answer or gets to work on it right away.
as for the radio i flashed the reccomended one on his original dev post and i actually get better signal in most places.
I also have another question of my own. i wanted to test out the GPS last night and it seemed a little more sluggish than stock. i could be immagining things but i was wondering if anyone else was having this problem also.

ok thanks buz. i just wanted to check
i only used it for about 3 min so it wasnt a very good judge of use
For example yesterday I retried mine first reconnect of gps after upping to new radio took 5 mins without vase and was sluggish. With case it took almost 10, today with case on first lock took 14secs with an 8 sat lock inside and using my case. its been awesome since he put in the gps fix. B4 it could take up to 30 mins for first lock without my case and it was only like 4 sats.

Noob here, I flashed the ClearDroid 1.2.12 rom a couple of days ago and love it. The only thing i want to change is the secure box in the messages menu. I would like to hide it or remove it, is it possible? Any help is appreciated, I did search I swear I did.
Will the Tiny audio fix work with this rom?
Issues with using latest gingerbread build.
Hello CleardDroid team;
I am a big fan your ROM, it works great on my phone. I have some serious issues using this ROM;
1) I am unable to compose message, when i try to compose message it force closes. I have tried alot to fix the issue but unable to resolve it. I have cleared its data, restarted it, fix the permissions using ROM manager, but failed to fix the issue.
2) Hotspot is not working, but I guess you are working on it.

[Q] Inverted GAPPS for Nexus S

Hey Everyone,
I am really excited to see that there is Inverted GAPPS that can be flashed; however, when I look through the forums I see them under everything other than Nexus S.
I have been following the thread at Rootz Wiki (XDA won't let me post link as I have not submitted enough threads), it is for the Galaxy Nexus, and am wondering if the inverted GAPPS here work for the Nexus S, seems I cannot find the right answer anywhere.
I am on Codename Android 1.4.0 with Matr1x kernel. Any advice or proper download and instructions links would be appreciated.
Cheers!
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/15092-invertedtotally-inverted-apps-updated-2-16-google-reader-added/ most of these work for our nexus s i havent tried all of them though
Excellent! Yeah, thanks for the link. Can you tell me which ones worked for you? I'm hoping for Gmail, Email, Talk, Market and Calendar. Also, any special intructions on installing them? I read something about uninstalling updates....I'm not sure how to do that as I have never had to. Thanks in advance.
I should also mention that I flashed the new 404 GAPPS from Codename Android....is this an issue with the inverted GAPPS?

Not sure about this questions answer, but to answer above, yes. All of those you mentioned worked fine for me.
They have all worked for me on Nexus S and Desire S.

Codename Android 1.4.0 with Matr1x 16.5 kernel here. I've tried two different packages of of inverted gapps, and both seem to crash gmail. This thread* has a few pointers on getting them working, but between the new-to-me acronyms and the somewhat pigeony english, it's a little hard to understand.
Best I can guess is that you need to flash AOKP gapps, reboot, then flash the inverted apps one at a time (the multi-app pack seems to be more problematic).
That said, the ones I installed that work look absolutely phenomenal on the AMOLED screen.
* I'd post the link but the spam filter sez I need 8 posts to put up links. Suffice to say that if you google the phrase "page__st__760__p__478289", it should send you to the right place.

I am just getting back to my pc and I think for now it'll be easier for me to just work on the A200 until my personal issues get sorted out. Again please forgive me. PM me if interested. Thank you everyone for your patience.
Self-Compiled daily CM9 builds
Since we are finally merged with the CM source and nightly builds have not yet been compiled officially, I have decided to compile them myself. I will compile a new build everyday with the date posted next to the link. All credit for these goes to waydownsouth, gh123man, hbwelch, randomblame, shchers. I am just simply building the source and sharing it for everyone until CM begins official builds.
Any questions, comments, feedback please tell me.

A500 build working great Using ics unlocked bootloader v4
This is very cool to see. I'll be flashing this very soon.
Although, correct me if I'm mistaken, but this shouldn't have any chance of bricking the entire device though, does it? Not with CWM there?
You'll have to excuse me, I'm mostly accustomed to the SGSII forums, still learning over here.
EDIT: You know, I might have spoke too soon. I went ahead and did a Nandroid backup, then flashed this. Everything went OK, using the ROM now. But then I realized I forgot to flash GApps ;P so I tried going into CWM..but now I can't. From cold coot, reboot, or soft reboot into recovery, nothing is working. The screen kinda flickers as if it trys going into it, but then just stays at the startup screen.
On Skrilax_CZ's Bootloader v4 (0.03.14-UNL)
But I can still get back into the ROM just fine... any ideas?

hey is it difficult to port AOKP b36 to an A200 tablet?
There is a A500 version and the hardware from A500 and A200 is the same...
What i have to change to get a working ROM, boot.img and?
Thanks and greets!
Lumiread and CBS New App Crash
I installed the A500 rom. Before installing I wiped data, cache, dalvik, battery stats ,etc. I also formatted everything including system and flexrom.
I love the ROM. I just have two annoyances. Lumiread (installed from backup) and the CBS News app (from market) crash on startup. I have put a copy of the device log with crash info on pastebin at:
http://pastebin.com/eh9N8x8z
Both apps work for me on Flexreaper and Thor ROM.
I am a noob. Sorry if I am posting what may be a bug to the wrong place. XDA won't let me post on A500 dev forum yet.
Update:
I was able to get Lumiread to work by copying librmsdkplatform_presys.so from another rom into system\lib directory. CBS news app still crashes.

Thanks
Been running the A200, smooth and no problems. Thank you
Anyone have any SoD issues on a500 build? I still have some sod issues on bare stock alpha2 release.
Any plans to update the builds nick? Apparently CM committed themes settings recently and I'd love to try em out =)
If not, I might finish setting them up on my box and start posting nightly builds....just figured I'd save myself the trouble if you were gonna update.
Also, this: http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/c/16443/
Working great so far on my A500. Keep up the great work!

Looking forward to future builds!
Working smooth as can be on my a100, DD for 3 days now, hoping for an update soon. Fresh install no restores.

This happens pretty regularly to me as well. The only fix I know of is a reboot.
Luckily, I've mainly been using my A500 for emulation. (My Xbox360 USB controller works well, at least!)

Variety IS the spice of life, ya know. Just remember though, I'm JUST porting these which is a LOOOOOG way from building from source & coding in my own tweaks & additions. Your REAL developers here are alwys Tbalden, SilverL, Scverhagen & xmc Wildchild. Without their ongoing work & shared knowledge none of the things I bring here would be even remotely possible. And of course my buddies Strapped365 & Mattlowry with their helpful hints on fixes & patches & constant encouragement. Just sayin'......:good:

I haven't had to use it but it may help in certain circumstances. I tested this thing in several different format for a week now and the ONLY thing that has caused a problem (now that I think of it & should be in the OP) is that if you update the Nova launcher things CAN get wonky for some reason. If you have, just go back to the market & do an update uninstall from there.
I'll add to the OP now.
You've released so many ROMs, that my wife doesn't like you very much!
I keep stealing her phone & sticking her with her old, retired phone all the time. That way I can alternate them and keep one functional while I flash and play with the other.
I can't decide which ROM I'll stick with. I keep coming back to Black Dalhia, but it doesn't spend much more time on my phone than all the others I keep trying! I'm wiping "as we speak" to try this one. I was about to flash Carbon, but this one caught my eye!

I agree there is a difference between porting and building from source, and you just mentioned a bunch of individuals I hold in the highest regard. I can't begin to count the times I've been grateful to each one of them for their contributions, and been awed at their abilities.
HOWEVER, without the final steps of porting, troubleshooting, patching, and fixing, most of us (ESPECIALLY me) would never get to enjoy the fruit of the coders' and developers' labor on the good ole DS. So thanks are also due to you and your fellow chefs.
I am deeply grateful to all of them (and a few others, besides); but, in this thread, I thank YOU, WEEKENDS! This ROM looks and sounds great!

Everyone HAS done a complete & full wipe before flashing the ROM I assume??

I always wipe... 3x jk twice I mean... When I turned the auto update off from the play store... It runs... But as soon as anything installs it reboots

I didn't go to that extreme, lol. I just did the standard wipe and flash. If i was feeling more gangsta today, i would just completely wipe my memory card and make sure its partitioned correctly for apps2sd, then try it again, since i'm sure i have a lot of junk from previous roms. Only thing i can think of that could potentially maybe make a difference.
I totally dig the rom, buuuuut i kinda need to be able to install apps

Did you both check your downloads against the published md5 sum on Dev-Host? It makes no sense to me what's happening to you guys. I flashed this thing several times on my own phone & one last time on the wife's without a single issue. This baffles me more than it does you. I'm sorry for problems you're having but I'm at a loss.
I've had 14 downloads and these are the only two issues claimed against it.
As added to the OP:
Further testing on other devices as well as input from several users has indicated that this ROM will not run properly without you being formatted to ext3 or ext4. This procedure can best be accomplished with TWRP Recovery by SilverL. It is my understanding that it has a user friendly option there for bringing your device up to speed. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused & my oversight in not catching this before now. (4/16/2013)

Thanks for the shoutout!
When i check the output from mount, everything is listed as ext4.
Perhaps it is my slightly older version of CWM 5.0.2.7 - haha, ok i'll update it today and reflash.

Only having the two phones to bounce this off of it HAS to be the difference nicholasb. Mine is ext4 formatted and the wife's isn't. How I missed it is I really only test the initial flash, setup and opening and closing some things, etc. on her DS. (I SWORE to her I would always go gently with hers )
It's MINE that I run everything thru the paces with including Market updates & install, etc., etc.... It just has to be what's making the huge difference.
(I think.)

I am still having the soft reboot problem, logcat attached.
This is after updating to TWRP.

Ok, i've wiped everything and re-partitioned my sdcard. Now with ext4 goodness.
I'm also redownloading the rom, got about 5 mins left. I'll letcha know the result soon as i know.

Well, I must say that I appreciate your persistence and hanging in there to try a few things but with 17 downloads & no other input, I'm going to temporarily disconnect the link. At least until I have time to do some more file chasing myself. Right this moment, I just don't have time. MAYBE tonite but more likely tomorrow. She's running fine on mine but there has to be an identifiable reason it's so different for you.
Thanks again & I'll give everyone a heads up when this changes.
OOPS! Didn't see that last part Bro. Let me see what happens on your end before going further.

[ROM] [7.0] [EQK1] TrueStockN Custom ROM

TrueStockN is a ROM I originally developed for T-Mobile's s6 edge+. I opened it to the international s6 edge+ as compatibility was possible since ROMs for F can be used on T, and my theory proved right. Now, I'm thinking maybe N920T users can use this rom since the s6 can run Note 5 ROMs. I've yet to test it since I don't have a Note to test with but if you want more information or want to test, feel free to PM me or check out the original thread: TrueStockN
Update: On first installation for N920T users were reporting issues with the soft keys and camera. ROM seems to work flawlessly once you install a kernel for SM-N920T. Credits to @keith2012 for testing and finding a solution to the issue. So far only Poseidon Kernel has been reported to work wonders with this ROM, but other kernels have no yet been tested.
v4 beta with S Pen features is now live. Head to main thread if interested.
I will try it today and write if it works)

I tried v4, first bugs ive found were:
i didnt have signal so i guess i should use the call fix patch and weirdly my multitask and back keys were not working :/
---------- Post added at 10:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:50 PM ----------
after i flashed the call fix i got a ton of force crashes, it took me like 5 minutes to shut it down so i dont know about this rom, maybe i should install and another kernel but unfortunately i dont have time today and i need my phone tomorrow working so i hope these reports will help even a little bit, maybe one day i will come back)

Can I ask what device you are using? And installation method?I know Note 5 users have been having issues with the softkeys and were able to fix it with an app from the play store. As for call audio there should be no issues out of the box (TMO libs are untouched). My best bet would be you dirty flashed over an international rom, but just my guess. I would recommend reflashing with a complete wipe (dalvik, cache, system, data). Or you could wait for stable(I'll be uploading that in a few days).

i confirm that everything is working, the rom is very smooth but i have found a thing which i guess i cant fix, there are no s pen features, thats the only reason im not using an aosp rom(
Ok, I've added the spen functionality by flashing an archive found randomly through my files so now everything works, except that my network is acting kinda weird, this is the only time I could get 4g working but last 10 minutes only 2g was working and I was outside. I hope everything will work ) great rom so far ^^

Are you sure you just didn't have S Pen features off under advanced features? I have an entire section for them and I'm running v4 stable.
We dont have spen option in ours.. the top option says accesories and when clicking it ..it says fast charge

honestly, when i flashed it for the first time i didnt have them, i didnt have the spne features in advanced tab, when i was taking the pen off nothing happened, also when i tried to use the screen off memo also nothing happened...i really have no idea what happened then but i am happy that now everything works)

not sure what didn you mean specifically so i will answer both options:
if you meant the spen features, ive flashe before the kernel this file and if the rom does not have these features by default, it added them
if you meant the screen off memo, thats what i did, i downloaded both the S note and the Samsung notes apps, ive granted both all the permissions and i think ive restarted my hpone cause at first when i was getting off my pen, i was getting just a black screen, also i think ive updated all the apps (the point is that i did a lot of stuff to try to make it work and in the end it worked perfectly, i even can scroll down to make the note bigger)
Could you please share the phone, contacts and messages apks, i wanted full spen features soni flashed the s8 apps and without thinking too much ive got these apps force closing...
Thanks
ok, ive got the apps from the roms zip)
I would like to revive a Note 5 SM-N920T ,
Could someone post the latest firmware, kernel to get this up and running?
Is 8.1 Oreo available and working on it?
Thanks..

Thank you so much for this ROM. It was hard to not find a port but still debloated enough for my tastes . I am a T-Mobile variant and once I flashed posiden kernel as you suggested all was perfect. I got Xposed installed and working flawlessly. Thank you thank you . If you develop anything further please let me know and especially if there is a resurrection ROM that I can use. Or would the posiden kernel work with that ROM? I don't understand how that works exactly

I'm glad you like the ROM. Poseidon kernel wouldn't work with RR since RR is an AOSP based rom and would require it's own kernel. RR is out there though, if your willing to deal with its bugs.
