[ROM - 28/09/10] VillainROM 1.0 for the Desire (Sense UI, 2.2 Froyo)

Let's get on with it, shall we?
Well, it's been a long time coming, and in typical VillainROM fashion, we hope it's been worth the wait.
Many of you will know our work from the HTC Hero community; work which started just under a year ago and grew into a team of developers, themers and systems administrators working to produce THE most popular ROMs on the Hero.
Some of us recently attended the HTC press event in London, where we were asked by many, many disgruntled Desire users when we were going to release some ROMs for the device. The good news is, today is the day. For anyone that's been waiting for our ROMs, I apologise for the wait.
So... why the delay?
Yes, you guessed it... midgets. I'm not talking about the little sweets, either... I'm talking about the little fellas. It's nothing at all to do with the fact that I have been lazy, despite having dozens of angry Desire owners (including many of our team) hassling me day in, day out. No, it's not that at all; it's the midgets.
I won't pretend I don't feel guilty about it, though. I'm as guilty as Alan Carr is gay. And that's pretty guilty.
Many of our team own the HTC Desire, so expect to see several of our ROMs appearing on this forum in the future. It's an exciting time to be a Desire owner, with so many talented developers around working on it... not to mention the upcoming release of the Desire HD, and the HTC kernel sources.
So that you're kept in the loop, so to speak, this is one of a series of ROMs for the HTC Desire that will be released over the coming fortnight (ideally). In no particular order, the other ROMs that we'll be releasing in the near future are:
- SuperVillain 1.0.0 (Based on VR 1.0.0 with Rosie, widgets and a lot of other Sense UI stripped out for speed. This will come in 2 versions... LP and ADW).
- FroydVillain 1.0.0 (A pure, AOSP build. Immensely fast, but currently quite buggy. This will be sorted prior to release)
- VillainROM HD (I'm working on a stripped down version of this ROM that installs without the need to store half the system folder on your SD EXT partition. This isn't too far away from release now).
Anyway, I've rambled enough. Many of you haven't read this far, and are already thinking 'TL : DR'. I have no doubt about this. I don't care though. That being said, I will 'get to the point' right about now.
Welcome to VillainROM 1.0.0
VillainROM is the name given to our ROMs based entirely on the manufacturers latest update, similarly to the Modaco Custom Roms. We've tried to keep it as standard as possible, adding only a few extra, essential features here and there, with our own, typical modifications. Please don't expect this to be groundbreaking, but if you're after a stable, close to stock, heavily supported ROM, then VillainROM is the right choice for you. As with all of the ROMs on offer from Team Villain, updates will be regular and meaningful.

I am testing this one... I found that gmail it is not the latest 2.3... I am trying to upgrade from market but It wont let me install it... :-( there is any way to do????

Can you guys keep Wifi N drivers as a mod to be added after flashing the rom itself? i think most ppl are reluctant to use it...

Since this rom has the System R/W access - overlay method u should be able to delete the gmail app apk file in the system/app using root explorer.. After that reboot the phone and install the latest gmail app from the market... Hope this help..

Or you could just flash the attached file as you would a ROM.

It was found to be the cause of battery drainage plus its not rly living up to the Wifi N speeds, to the extent of being more of a flaw than anything else

The /system partition runs at around 230 and the /cache partition runs around 10. FYI: nfinitefx45 built the mtdpartmap.txt "mtd 245 15" and FR-boot INTO the ROM.zip flash (version 1.5.3). IMPORTANT: this means you have enough room to flash other mods to /system, BUT you would need to flash FR-boot after that, as per firerat S.O.P. Also, this means if you change MTD it will be overwritten if/when you reflash the ROM. You should be well versed on firerat MTD before moving forward.
NEW to this version:
1) odexed system boots in about 2 minutes home screen load takes longer lol
2) "HTC likes" app works
3) "HTC hub" app works
4) bookmarks widget now available (from HTC hub)
5) CPU boots into ondemand 245-729
6) native USB & wireless tether work - sometimes disconnects or reboots
7) GPS works (nav app still fails due to 3D)
8) long press power does not show reboot menu - use "quickboot" app for now.
9) native email app doesn't work for pop accounts - use provider apps.
10) Boot animation back to stock for now.
11) recommended app "spare parts" = set window and transition anim. to FAST
12) the ROM.zip is now edify, and signed - thanks nfinitefx45
The "list" continued:
1) 3D textures still not working - do NOT update google maps to 5.4.0
2) bluetooth still not working.
3) wifi works, random "error" fixed by a reboot.
4) camera still not working - don't get your hopes up.
5) model says PG06100, but apps seem to read hero200.
6) PRI not working - shows "not ready"
7) network still "unknown" - shows "no service"
8) HTC widgets work (sometimes you need to install more than once).
9) data transfers on wifi sometimes fail, but work on 3G
10) random FC on blah.radio.blah - ignore
...there's probably more that I'm forgetting...
nfinitefx45 built this ROM from source and merged the working changes from the OP. He is also now working on a new RUU source build which was updated, hopefully it will fix *some* of the issues
how i got the initial release
-ran his rom through the android kitchen on my linux box
-this got it to boot but alot of items did not work
-flashed the rom then the .35 kernel immediately following then booted more functionality was restored
-next i made a nandroid of the rom with the .35 kernel
-moved the boot.img into the working folder along with the libs from the kernel zip
- made a build.prop edit so that its looking for cdma instead of GSM
How to install(might be a waste of time)
wipe ALL, flash FR-recovery, wipe ALL, reboot recovery, flash ROM, reboot. It is also recommended that you have an s-off bootloader, since FR is a recovery modification. It installed fine for the testers, so YMMV. But be warned, bricks are your fault, not someone elses Also, the CPU frequencies are now 245xxx (needs to be fixed, keep reading) - 729xxx (careful, some phones can only handle 691xxx). You need an overclock method (setCPU, overclock widget) to change the frequencies to 264xxx - 691xxx.

i actually almost downloaded it for my old mt3g to see how good it was working but to me none of the sense ports on the mt3g were any good do to severe lag, and most of those were hero ports.

This one seems rather snappy just wifi doesnt work so it is rather useless to me its also why I don't have any screenies

Haha its alright its not a huge part of the OP I just want to see if data actually connects or works at all outside of just getting network time since it constantly reads no service

Make sure you included the wifi module from the 2.6.35 kernel zip.

Yep its in there, the kitchen gives me little luck with working wifi after using the kitchen, almost everything I have ported ends up getting the wifi broken

holy sweet mother of bejeevus this is smooth so far data works and wireless tether witch is what im using right now!! as for notfication leds and bluetooth do not work heres what i did.
first did a full wipe boot, data, cache, and dalvic.
second flashed the rom using the latest cmr from rom manager took awhile to copy all the files over.
took a few minutes to boot
3rd i went ahead and skiped sign in and turned off all the gps stuff
4th took awhile for sense to load but once it did its very smooth.
notes it says i have no service on the lock screen when clearly i do and i will test calls sms and mms in a few minutes.

done a bit more testing google sign in works market browser and package installer all work fine. however portable hotspot ofcourse will not work internet sharing and wired tether from google code causes full reboots. as for sms and calls both seem to be working fine. im vary excited for the future of our heroes so far we have this aosp and hopefully ginger miui coming this is freakin awesome lol.

Can you post some screenies, the sensors don't work so You will probably need to use the audio one or the timer but it should work

[ROM] Frostmod 2.0

Welcome Frostmod version 2.0. A lot of work has gone into this update that I hope you will enjoy. I've spent much time on making this rom highly customizable, in other words, almost nothing is unchangeable. In my frostmod tool box app, you can now change the font of the clock, switch between adw launcher, and gingerbread aosp launcher, and a assortment of boot animations. The old permanent ics lock screen is gone. The one in version 1.6 that required a reboot is to clunky. Now you can simply go into the cyanogenmod menu, and easily apply frostmod lockscreen. there is also no native theming. All my theme work is located in a single theme manager app. A lot of things have been added to my theme, just look at the settings menu. Also in the about phone menu, you will now see a button that says frostmod version. Click on it for a full changelog, help, thanks and more. The cyanogenmod base has also been updated to cyanogenmod 7.2.0 RC1.I hope you like this update. If you enjoy the rom, and the time I spent on it, make sure to give me a thanks

i chckd my sd card iin other phones .. it's working fine ..

I Wish I was, then I could help you, but my phone on this rom is mounting just fine. Did you make sure to go into the menu and press Turn on USB storage

Have you gotten it running on your phone? I've tried flashing multiple times with a wipe of everything and get a constant M

I am extremely sorry, I had one that booted, but I just restored one of my stock froyo backups, and then flashed to this, and it does not work I am going to take down the download link for now, but I will have one up that works in around 30 minutes

Can't wait for the new file so I can test this out. Thanks man!

I believe I have fixed it, and it should boot now. Remember that this is pretty much stock cyanogenmod, but I am working on a great theme

Running it now, seems to be nice, and love the 1.2 ghz over clock.. Great Job!

My next rom will have a better theme, but I am attempting to get most of theme into a theme Chooser app so you can decide if you want my themeing or not. There is also plenty of XML editing. I think you will get a few laughs out of my next version
I just have to work out a problem with the desk clock app

Thats very good news! (besides the whole desk clock problem) I like how your rom is shaping up, it's nice and stable, though for some reason it's really laggy on my phone, but I like your theme from your past version, especially the pull down menu

adjusted DPI to match Nexus 7 (213 DPI instead of 240)
changed default boot animation (Runs Choppy I will make adjustments in Alpha 2)
added overall blue tint to windows and pop ups
adjusted icons for status bar
changed swipe down menu with new look
Changed appearance of loading indicator
Things not working on Rom
Status Bar still on top trying to move keys to bottom to match ICS
Overclocking (Somthing in the Kernel that needs to be worked out)
Some HW Acceleration (I don't even know if Froyo or MIPS had HWA but I know that it doesn't work properly on this device)
Ram comsumption issues (See Below for Tips and Tricks)
a whole ton of apps (We have ingenic Mips jz4760 and most apps are made for ARM not MIPS)
CURRENTLY ROOT ISN'T WORKING WILL FIX IN NEXT RELEASE

Use a task killer(I know they are taboo but they do help on this tablet)
Limit number of Widgets
Limit apps with notifications (Disable noifications on apps if you can)
Limit number of apps you have installed (Don't go download happy and fill up your internal storage)
Limit multitasking (The more apps running the slower it will get)

The Thread is open I hope that anyone with a Cruz T301 is still interested in this ROM. Most people have moved on but I figured I would provide files downloads and help. Anyone that wants to play around with my update and put different things into can. Feel free to use it as a base for other Roms.

Been using this rom for a few days now and I love it... it's fast, sleek and haven't had any problems with it... excluding the root issue..
Any updates on when the root issue is going to be fixed? I've tried my hand at rooting it myself but keep running into the dreaded "SU: unknown user root" issue.

It is in the works, but I keep running into bootloop issues with A3 that I am trying to smooth out before releasing it. Currently an ETA isn't available... But I promise It is in the works!

Problem with Opera

First thank you for this great work.
I installed Resurrection 2.2.1 version without problem.
By cons when I try to install Opera message says "your device is not compatible."
Same with Firefox. Any idea?

Hi I am a noob android enthusiast that got a t301 from a friend to mess around with. After reading a lot of your earlier forum work on this project I decided to try the Alpha Resurrection and it works great Thank you soooooo much for making this tablet useful again! Your tweaks and deletions of garbage was just what this baby needed. Don't know where we would all be without yourself and Steven J Hill, but thanks to you both. I signed up for xda just to tell ya that. Your directions were clear and worked great! I think some folks that were having probs may not have cleared out all caches like you suggest, as I have encountered similar probs on other roms. All in all a great ROM and it has been fun reading the forums and watching ya grow into your own dev self Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching for updates.

No I have no clue how to develop a kernel... had a few guys peeter out on me with development and so I have slowed down on making a new version. For some reason Root doesn't hold and I have tried all the tricks I know. It is weird developing for MiPS

I had never heard of MiPS before this tablet. But I'm starting to mess with developing, so I'll give a kernel a go when I get to that point

Yea it seems like MIPS is generally used in china only and so development is very limited. You can always swing by http://www.imgtec.com/mips/developers/ and get started there... kinda a pain to work with since I have not really found any other developers to help me out I'm not really an experienced dev haha

I will see what I can do. I tried to compile my first kernel (for my phone) last night and got an error, gonna try to fix it today and get it compiled. Once I do, I'll look into this, and definitely take a look at that link.

Well if you find success let me know and I will take a crack at adding it to the updated version of the ROM. I am still trying to find out why it doesn't allow super user access. It has been a real puzzler.

I tried to run cpu-z to get some info on the device. It installed, but crashes on launch >.<

[U] WIPES ==> wipe all except external sdcard and internal sdcard [/U]
1. Install the latest or 2.7 TWRP recovery. WIPE the following partitions in TWRP recovery ====> /system /data/ /cache/ dalvik cache/ /preload/ everything but internal and external sdcards... unless you want to wipe those as well then go right ahead.. also wiping everything is a good way to start over if coming from builds of another source.
2. Install ROM from /sdcard/ aka internal /sdcard/
3. After flashing completes, reboot
4. LET IT SIT A FEW MINUTES
5. Sign in to WI-Fi if available, then sign into your Google account
6. Choose Google launcher when prompted pick "Always" then "OK" Choosing Google launcher will not allow the stock customized Weather widget to function or even be chosen. your choice. I like both.
7. open play store and allow Google search and keep to update...
8. reboot.. . Remember to Reboot.

OOpss... Rushing, I just flashed your latest lightspeed xx skyrocket on my t989 and when I open the calendar the screen is on horizontal, when I turn the phone to horizontal it goes into vertical. Am I the only one experiencing this?
Actually it happened pretty much with all applications, so I flashed back to hackingwiz.

Sounds like you need the rotation fix. Try a herc kernel. On a side note I have tried d/l this multiple times today and it fails. Finally got it to go and got a status 7 error.

For less experienced users reading this.... The SkyRocket Roms werk on the T989 or Hercules SGS2.. all except the kernel which makes screen as well as gps orientation backwards. However I included the SkyRocket kernel so there should be no backwards orientation problems. Not all TWRP versions will likely be compatible. some versions of CWM are definately compatible as well just saying I use TWRP for the preload wipe feature .

I am not completely certain . I had a tester tell me that he just switched out the kernel and he didnt mention drivers.. So going by what he said I took SR stock kernel and replaced mine and plus the build.prop to say I727 .. I have never flashed a Skyrocket ROM and did the fix so thats why I am not able to answer with precision =]
But if anybody is having problems let me know please what they are. what recovery you are on and the like anything you might think could help with the big picture will be appreciated...
I have a lot of cool ROMs that I could post over here once I get it the port down which is a minor port if its even a port lol./ Might even make a kernel that OCs up to 2.? GHz more or less depending on this device I will prolly start at just 1890 and werk up if I go there. should be a piece of cake. will need interactive testers though../

i remember asking when you first posted these roms in t989 thread but okay lol...

I'm just usually too busy but he caught me at the right time. Also he was helpful with testing . It's just timing is all . But the roms I make are, imo, better now. I was spending all my time on the S4 and making kernels for the s2 was taking all my mental haha.
But I Got my One m8 and don't need to make mods for a while as I'm happy with it just debloating stock Rom is nice.
Thanks for your suggestion as well cause see it is part of the equation. Being asked two or three times is encouraging so anyone that suggested it played a part.

Well no ETA's =]
but, I have an improvement, its not much, I like to make the power button on the status bar invisible.
I could do that maybe add the same power button to the pull down notification panel.
kinda thought interest in this ROM died off before it took hold.
also I could dig into the kernel source at some point and whip up some big OC'd kernels as well. I did a lot to my tmo S2 kernel recorded it on git if you want to see.
