Question about quadrant scores!!!! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello everyone I just have a quick question... What is the trick to get quadrant scores up above 5000? I've seen many people with high scores and I've tried everything and never got out of the 4000`s, actually every time I've ran quadrant, HTC one x beats out my device.

Depends, is your phone rooted? Or is it just running stock TW?

who cares Its just a number. But if it means that much to you run it several times in a row, it will eventually mess up and give you a hugh fake number You can show all your friends
I got over 30,000 once on my dx and it was still choppy!

Yep, its a number, and trying to "increase" it to make the phone "faster" is dumb. If stock has a 1.5ghz clock and scored lets say 4800, Cm10 might be +/- 200 but on the same clock it cant score much higher..... without dumb modifications to fake it.

It is not dumb at all.. You are trying to optimize the performance of your phone.. Make sure battery power saving is turned off, close all applications, usually running after a fresh reboot help. Overclocking helps.
I scored this https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/s720x720/527107_10151086780898557_1408887957_n.jpg

I was saying the number of 4800 as an example. And yes power saving lowers cpu clock I believe so that affects the score. I'm running a test on cm10 no overclock or anything to show what a true score is. of course overclocking makes it faster, thats not dumb but modifications geared to increase the actual score is silly.
Just got 4400.

These tools are used to give an estimate of how your device compares to other devices... That being said I am running Cleanrom/Cleankernel and get just about the same numbers all the time except for Linpack... I have my phone overclocked to 1800-1999 ghz and my scores are below but it depends on your hardware too... You might not be able to push some phones that high but mine is totally stable at these overclocks so I def have a keeper but my damn home button sticks so I am in the process of getting a replacement... Much love to Cleanrom though!! :good:
I also have no secrets as to make my score higher and even if I did that would be stupid!! IMO

Pretty much all developers will tell you quadrant and benchmarks do not (always) translate to real world performance.
That said: ROMs and kernels will affect scores.
CPU governors will affect scores
Overclocking your CPU will boost our score.
The current jellybean leaks is very fast - will give you scores of 5500+ if that's what our looking for.

Why are people over clocking this phone? Is their anything on Android that really needs more power then a dual core S4 at 1.5ghz?

The point is Quadrant sucks and is unreliable, I wasn't kidding when I said I got a 30,000 once....Run it a few times in a row it gets a little better as you repeat. Different biuldprop settings can also make a big difference so different ROMS could easily have vastly different scores.. You couldn't see that +/-200 in real life anyways...... admit it you just want bragging rights :highfive: cooomme onnn admit it

I run mine at 1.2 and honestly I can't tell a difference between 1.2, 1.5, and 2.1 beyond benches telling me it's faster.
Please excuse my Galaxy S III, it's a bit Paranoid.

Just for fun....I loaded unofficial cm 9/13 by invisiblek, antutu was 7383. I then loaded ktoonz kernel, it goes up to 8123 (did not overclock). There was someone oc'ed it and got >9000.

I just run the phone at 1.0ghz to save on battery and apart from the occasional lag that comes with it, it's not that bad. Had my battery go over 2 days without a single charge due to the underclocking.

Absolutely stock here. Don't get hung up over benchmark scores... they're only useful for comparing YOUR device before and after you make changes.

If you REALLY want the best score (and I recommend this when you use a benchmark the right way... like I said, to measure the result of changes), restart your phone, let everything load, then run it. A bunch of background operations can and will slow things down.
But again... they're meaningless for the most part. I could run it again now and the numbers could be wildly different.

Quadrant scores mean nothing.

Maybe u guys just don't know how to test very well or thoroughly, or don't know what to look for. Benchmarks do help. If u know how to use them. No, they don't always show real world use. They should be used to determine the phones maximum. I use them for judging how well they will play through the hardest emulator game, or most intense Android game. It isn't the only thing I go by, but when figuring out new settings or trying to push a new kernel to its absolute max, it is useful as well.

Overclocking Thunderbolt

I have read that the HTC Inspire has the same CPU as the Thunderbolt, if this is correct will the 1.8ghz overclock also work for the Thunderbolt? Anyone with some light on this situation?

We'll have to wait until we get custom kernels to do this. Each phone has a different kernel IIRC so you can't slap the Inspire OC on the Thunderbolt and rock on.
I'm sure we'll hit 1.8 if not 2.0. Just be patient.
I'm happy with 1G as is... but I could always use more speed.
According to Wikipedia:
Inspire uses the MSM8255 chip..
Thunderbolt uses the MSM8655.
They are both rated for 1ghz, but it could be that the MSM8655 is superior in other ways and might have a higher/safer overhead.. We might be able to get a 100% overclock or really dark close to it.

the guy who did that 1.8Ghz kernel claims he gets 20 hours or so on a charge.
I think it would easily get 20 hours on a full charge. Interactive only uses what it needs.

They just did overclock it to 1.8ghz
The story here
2800 on the quadrant, another article shows a screenshot of 3000 too.
Also, tester says he was getting 12 hours (8AM to 8PM) with moderate use. 45 minutes, I think not...

lol I was being sarcastic. I am well aware of the fact that you can get good battery life out of an overclocked phone. I came from the evo 4G where I had "god" mode enabled and got great battery life.
P.S. God mode on the evo ment overclocking to 1.2Ghz. Most phones couldn't go that high, so you had to enable "god" mode to try.

Money. I'll take it.
Now gimme a link!!!!
Good to know the phone doesn't disappoint.
I'm an inspire owner on an overclocked kernel. On 1800 my battery with normal use (tons of Facebook and xda app, email,~50 texts, and 10-15 2-5 min phone calls) gets ~20-24 hrs on a full charge. This was my best benchmark.

I tried that as well. My Quadrant score was similar but I found browser scrolling and gameplay in Angry Birds to be noticeably choppy. Also, in Quadrant, the orbiting planet test pegs at 60fps stock where with this kernel it was jumping around all over at lower fps. Ended up flashing a different stock clocked kernel and everything was good again.

I have a kernel that is 1.8ghz capable, but it will reset after a while. So far it seems that 1.4ghz is stable. If I go any higher, eventually it resets. I have the Liquid sense rom installed. Haven't tried any others to see if the kernels are more stable at higher clocks.
Edit: with this ROM at 1.8hgz I get a 2571 on quadrant. I think that's particularly good. Too bad it resets once in a while. Any one recommend a good kernel for stable overclock?

[Q] please post your quadrant score

I saw a store rep demo'ed it and got 2700, and the 3D got whopping 100+fps on "walking up room" part.
It is exceptional.

I ran the first quadrant within thirty minutes of getting the phone, and it scored 2554 or something like that.
Just ran one and scored... 2463
you have to realize this is the same chip as the XOOM and Atrix but its powering a lower resolution so the quadrant scores will be higher BUT you're at a lower resolution. I have a Xoom and it gets 1800 while this gets 2500. I'd rather have a higher resolution than a higher score. Still you shouldn't have any problems playing games on here.

I don't get your point. How does it mean nothing but also means it's fast? It's a benchmark test. The point of it is to gauge performance, nothing more. Would you have bought one if it scored 850? After all... its a meaningless number.

Also, 3000 + with no tweaking? Really? Is this with stock rom? If not I belive a non stock rom constitutes tweaking.

It's the same hardware. The benchmarks will be the same except for any software quirks. Not sure about tweaking, I interpret that to mean "optimising for benchmarks". The only real alternative rom available is Paul's and all he's really done is turn the engineering code off, not really a tweak. Nevertheless, I expect the G2x won't be encumbered by these LG oversights (hope?) so should bench around 3000 out of the box.
The point I was making was perfectly relevant for this thread I think?

I don't think there's any problem with you adding the comparative benchmarks from the O2x to the discussion. However, I DO think you should have been very clear about what those benchmarks were from so people aren't wondering why their phone out of the box isn't performing as well as yours.
Also, I'm still not entirely clear from your response. Are you running a custom rom or not?

I'd hate for anyone to mmisinterpret, I'm running stock LG ROM with no engineering code. What I mean by that is that it's basic Google code but it *does* include the LG framework, so probably slower than stock Android.
Edit: It would be clear to even a casual observer from the screen shots that it was not stock Froyo.

I think it was the "no tweaks" part that was confusing. I'm also wondering if the G2x will suffer from the same engineering code issue that the O2x has. Originally I thought we would be getting AOSP, but apparently it's still LG manipulated, just without their launcher and probably a few other things.

My quadrant score with pauls modaco rom is 3200+ which i am extremely happy with. on stock rom i was getting 26-2700.

O2x owners get the hell out of our forum! Your devices are programmed differently than ours, you've most likely tweaked your devices in some way (who comes to XDA and does not do so?), and you're confusing the situation.
Out of the box, the G2x from T-MOBILE USA scores about 2400-2500 on Quadrant. End of story.

T-Mobile G2x by LG Benchmark Score

I have ran the Quadrand Standard Benchmark on my phone several times now. The highest score I have ever seen on a phone is 2592.
My old Samsung Vibrant couldn't even do half of that. I don't rely TOO MUCH on the benchmarks but they do give you a GENERAL I dea of what your phone is capable of.
My phone is rooted but the processing power was not boosted in any way, using any program. Just the raw, everyday processing power.

I question the validity and reliability of a test such as quadrant.
why is it that scores can be so inconsistent on a single device, even if you run tests back to back to back?
I must have missed the memo somewhere explaining this, as well as how the scores are standardized between devices.

Vibrant
Ive benched higher on my customized Vibrant. It was overclocked @1.2 Ghz. I actually like my vibrant alot more with the screen and size and roms. So far I think my G2X is just kind of iffy. Cant wait til some roms come out and some stuff optimized for the tegra2. It took the vibrant almost a year to get where it is today and Alot of thanks go out to the developers, for almost tripling the original performance. The only reason I upgraded to the G2X was camera flash... Oh well.
I hit 2749 after 4 subsequent runs all in the high 2600s/low 2700s. This is after applying the pre-dexopt patch, so I recommend you guys go over and get it. Before I applied the patch I was getting high 2300s/low 2500s.

I have similar scores after the patch. I have had around 2900+ with MT4G overclocked at 1812 max (do not leave it at max - use a conservative 1612 - lol) with faux lv CM7 Kernel.
Quadrant scores are suspect however, as Linpack scores tell a different story. With MT4G above, get mid 50"s to low 60's. With G2X - I cannot break even 40.
I think it will do much better overclocked of course, and even better when we finally get a genuine duel core ROM on it - like 2.4 or 3.1.
But the fact remains that even with similar Quadrant scores, the linpack scores are not very high on the stock G2X.
So far I've gotten 2412. Completely stock, no root, nada!

Ignore the first run, then run it 10 times, dropping any with erroneous values, and average the scores. It's benchmarking, you're never going to get the same result especially on a device that's running so many active services that fire off at random. That's also why I bought Quadrant Advance since it allows running the phone in airplane mode and also breaks down the scores for better analysis.
Using that process I'm averaging about 2450 on a stock phone.
rooted s-off
stock rom and kernel
Quadrant: 2724
smartbench 2011: productivity:2970
Games:2516
neocore:80.1FPS
nenmark:57.4FPS
Highest score so far was 2640 on quadrant.
..........
I got 2600+ ...rooted , stock rom.
this is my fist run after installing patch on my G2x.. hit 2676

I got this the first day. Now I get around 2750.

really you are going to go there?
1) Quadrant Scores really do not mean anything. all about how the end user feels about the ROM.
2) i am currently running the 2.3.3 leaked MySense ROM. And when it comes to how smooth it is.. it's lightyears beyond how i felt about Cyanogen(mod) or EViL's HD ROM. It's snappy responsive and works EXTREMELY well. However the quadrant is much lower than Cyanogen or EViL's ROM.
3) any developer or anyone with any amount of time under their belt will tell you that Quadrant Scores do not mean jack crap when it comes to the real world. Once again it's all about how the end user likes his or her ROM, and how smooth it is. The only people who rely on Quadrant scores are people who surf Android Central and Android and Me.
Have fun running your Quadrants, i'm not telling you not to.
I'm not a self proclaimed "troll" but i am a "realist". If you want Trolls to stay out of your Threads. Do not post them on the internet....
My UI is very fast and Smooth... BTW I am not running what is in my signature. I didnt start the thread to be a debate, but to see what people are actually achieving in Quadrant. I have seen you in many other threads and I respect your opinion.

i'll post a screen shot in a second. of my Quadrant. just for you....
Thanks for participating. I tried using Photobucket to enlarge my pic, but to no evail. Any ideas?
I never got close to 3000, this is my best

Quadrantis a pretty horrible benchmark. It's notorious for being inaccurate and giving bloated scores if you wanted a more accurate reading you should use smartbench. It's probably the best out of all of them ceptit does bias a little toward Samsung phones.

I have no clue what to gauge the phone against everyone uses quadrant that I know and hardly anyone posts smartbench scores... but for what its worth.
I scored:
Productivity 1892
Games 1846
Is this good or bad...lol I have no clue.

Here is another one... Look at my I/O!!! Thats Fast. Is there anyone that is even close? I am trying to break 4000!!

I wanna know what you run to get a score like that.
My quadrant score is : 2235
on CM 7.0.2 with faux CFS low voltage kernel @ 1.2 ghz
What rom/settings are you using to get such high scores?
That's totally awesome

I am running a version of Ice Glacier/My Sence (EXT 2) with faux123's 0.9.9 BFS LV #137 Kernal With a LagFix. The ROM is NOT Ready for Release as I still have some work to do on it and probably will need some DEV help to do it. Any DEV's willing to help with it please PM me.
P.S. Not all Glaciers will run at these speeds, they will lock up. This is my forth HTC Glacier and it is built in China. My others were Taiwon Built and NONE of them could handle this. Fortunatly this Glacier has never locked up on me and can handle anything I can throw at it.
I have reached scores around 3600ish on Iced Glacier 1.1.6, 3200ish on CM7 and Evil's MIUI. Havent tried any of the Sense roms yet. Running stock MySense now and the scores come out pretty low, but its running really fast without any lag at all. OC at 1.8ghz smartass. Confuses me But here are some pics I just took

I get 1850 from a stock (out of the box) MT4G, so my guess is that the kernal didnt install. Your scores with faux123's kernal should be much higher.
I have not seen any Quadrant Scores that top mine yet. Not being cocky... Just waiting.

I cant for the life of me get over 2200ish. Even with 1.8 BFS kernel. Not sure what im doing wrong here...
What ROM are you running? You should be getting much higher scores.

[Q] Quadrant scores?

Hello. I've bought a nexus s a few days ago and I've started swapping roms.
My question is simple, how do people manage to get 4-5k quadrant scores?
Currently I'm using Pure Bionix 1.6 rom, but the maximum score I was able to get was around 3.3K.
Describe everything you do, from roms/kernels to apps closed etc.
Sorry if this is a newbie question
Install 1.6.1, then use SetCPU to OC the kernel.
That's how I achieved my 5300 quad.
You can also try other kernels as well.
YMMV
Use matrix rom amd just over clock abd run quadrant a few times back to back and you will hit 4500+
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA Premium App
cyanogenmod 7 + trinity 1.44
4500-5000
Oxygen 2.3.1 @ 1300Mhz ->> 4286, highest score for me with this ROM.
And I didn't do anything special to get this score, I only overclocked CPU.
Thanks for the answers. I've done as you've said krylon. I installed 1.6.1 and oced the cpu to 1540 1540 on demand, however the max score I was able to get was around 3400. Am I missing something?
I'm using adv task killer to kill all the running apps before the test.
My nexus s is an i9023 btw.

set setcpu to 1540 max/1540 low. bench four times in a row, throw out the first 2 results, the forth should be the highest.
That's what I'm doing atm, yet the max I get is 3400.
Me and my luck with cell phones

its possible that your phone doesnt like that high of a overclock. try trinity t144 kernel. also, have you updated to the most recent bionix?
I flashed the T144 kernel and the phone got a bit slower yet really stable. The thing is the scores went down a little bit, around 3250 which I already expected. Could it be the phone itself?
I've youtubed a bit to watch how other 4000+ runs went and on the first image teste (2d if I'm not mistaken) I'm obtaining a constant 27-28 fps rate, and that was the only difference.
No need to worry about that. Quadrant scores can be faked and really don't mean much when it comes down to it. It's all about the real world performance.

are you using quadrant advanced or standard? if youre using quadrant advanced, could you provide a screenshot please. id really like to see the score breakdown. the score is really low. also, in the op of the Trinity thread in the development section is a dalvik-wiper.zip, would you flash it please, then try again.

orgasms can be faked too, that doesnt mean anybody is faking there quadrant scores here. with such a low quadrant score for these kernels, i bet his real world performance is reduced also.

While not necessarily being faked you can't say that a test where you throw out the first three scores and then use the forth because it is always higher is terribly accurate or being honest. Just because you ran quadrant four times and got a score with 500 more points on the last test doesn't automatically mean your real world performance is that much better. Honestly it's just the Android equivlant of buying a really big truck to overcompensate for something else (not to mention the cause of people always asking these types of questions over and over).
So after searching around I found some1 in xda with a similar problem and I ended using this in the terminal:
su(press enter)
mount -o remount,noauto_da_alloc /data /data(press enter)
And believe it or not, after that I managed to get 4500 right away in standard quadrant 1.1.7. After closing apps and getting advanced quadrant 1.1.1, I managed to get 4900, which is more than fine for me. What I'd like to know is what exacly did that command do.
Regarding the dalvik-wiper.zip, I wasn't able to find it. Will it by any means increase the performance further?
Finally I'd like to ask two things:
1) How safe is it to run a Min 100 Max 1440 OC setting?
2) In case of warranty issues, will this fully revert the phone to the original (or updated from original) state? - http://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-hacks/how-to-unroot-nexus-s-i9020ti9020ai9023/
Thanks for all the help so far

i didnt even consider that because its included in the bionix/trinity combo. but it does have to be included in a stock rom. whats odd is, how did you lose it

you are in a way right and in a way youre wrong, im not going to argue the fact that all benchmarks are inaccurate. because they are. and ive proved it over and over again. BUT, that said.. its a good way to see where the phones performence is and where it should be(if youre not cheating), especially if youre a developer. for example, when morfic makes some changes in a kernel, we run benchmarks to see how and where that change effected the performance.

I was just making the point that most of the super high quadrant scores are inflated and not very accurate, but I agree with you in that benchmarks are a good way to make general comparisons like the example you described, but it isn't an end all, be all. When it comes down to it real world, user experience in my opinion is what really matters.

real world use is all that matters, period. but quadrants are still fun to run, as long as no body is cheating. speaking of, this is from a galaxy s 2 at 1.6ghz, the nexus s has officially been dethroned from the top of quadrant.. http://androidcommunity.com/samsung...-benchmarks-nearly-7800-in-quadrant-20111110/
