Perhaps it's completely obvious that they do but I just wanted to check before I flashed my phone later as I really like the Android Market.
Cheers, Roy.
Ok first of all. Try look at the forum name, it is called Sapphire android development. Your topic has nothing at all to do with it.
Second of all, why would you think the other ROMs would NOT include the market?
First of all, I put it in this section as it relates to the ROMs being cooked here. Silly of me to think it may be related.
Second of all, it was a simple question, I hadn't seen it mentioned in the threads for the other ROMS and just wanted to double check before I flashed my phone. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Third of all, Bulbasaur beats Squirtle!!
Yes they do include the android market. If needed use market enabler to show paid apps if not supported in your country.
There, that wasn't hard to answer was it. So many quick to criticise on here instead on helping. I remember when it was a community...(drifts off into fond memories of the WM forum days with my XDA II)
I know mate. Back when I used to use this forum to Flash my HTC touch diamond people were always more then happy to help.
At the end of the day, if I've got a question then I'm going to ask it. Better I do that rather then I don't ask and end up bricking my £200+ phone!
Anyways it's Friday
Agreed. Anyway, the dev forum is usually the most active, and most likely to get your question seen,

I realy dont know why if you dont like the question dont answer it, its not hard
politeness hurts no one.
I am yet to find any rom without Market and doubt I ever will
This forum is getting flooded by the same questions over and over again, because people can't find out how to use the search function, also that question - if you think about it was a bit stupid. Seriously why would a ROM maker NOT include the android market? None of the ROMs I have tried includes it. And IF it was excluded it would be easy to take the apk file from another ROM and just put in the /system/app folder - how hard can that be?
I advise you to try it the hard way, you always have the possibility of doing a nandroid backup and restore it.

now now no need for all that! use a bit of tact mate. the guy asked a question and yes you answered but in the wrong way! yeah he should have searched and maybe thought before asking but he did and he didn't need to be told off. man this place is rapidly going down hill and its sad. back in the day people could ask whatever they wanted over and over again and the reply was always friendly. its a matter of choice so refrain from responding in future in sort a manner....... seriously don't defend your actions just realise they were a bit harsh and chill! this is a share and help forum and people seem to forget that!
Bad day.......

I am asking all please don't attack me for posting this as I am but I am desperate....
Hi, I wanted to ask after installing the Stock UVKD1 – Flashable T959VuVKD1zip file will T-Mobile be able to tell I was rooted at one time? What happened is.. I was rooted and after flashing this I wasn't. Not accusing anyone, actually glad because it gave me a reason to return the phone. This purchase wasn't planned but because I own the Vibrant 3g (1st one phone) and love it, love the themes, everything about it. So at T-Mobile store saw 4g and bought it. Nothing like the Vibrant.
The ones that have contributed to this site have been amazing!!! It's too bad that there are so many with just gripes and complaints. Over at the Vibrant sites everyone works together and it's fun. Not a developer, have had many soft bricks but have fun with my phone and enjoy learning.
This is long because I have seen so many attack others and hope people won't waste their time on me because I am returning the phone and haven't posted anything before this anticipating someone would jump on me about where I posted or the answer is elsewhere "go to that forum".
The fact is that everything I have looked at and I have looked everywhere people are having problems and everyone's is a little different than mine so I just want to know if with this rom on my phone can I return it to T-Mobile, to day is the 19th day and I only have 20.
Thanks in advance for any answer someone can provide me with.
im not sure but I don't think you can get D1 over the air right now. however, that doesn't mean you rooted the phone, just that you flashed it. I suspect they might feel the same way about that though. If I was you I would flash from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978836 and then remove root as explained in that forum.
Please feel free to thank this post if this helped.

I don't think you read my post completely. I know I am not rooted. I do have some knowledge about what to do or I wouldn't be messing with a phone, this was going to be my main phone and I kept my Vibrant to play with and learn.
I was only asking about the rom because I didn't know what rom was on the phone when purchased.

Well since this KD1 Rom is a t-mobile update, I don't think you'll have any issues returning it. I would unroot the phone though (if is rooted). I'm not an expert; I'm like on the same boat as you are which is learning all this great stuff, but would t-mobile be able to tell if you were rooted once? not really sure.

Thanks for the help. I removed all signs of root so after I swap out the 32 card for the 16 finish getting that straight I should be in good shape.
You might know this, where was the movie on the phone? I zipped it and got off right away so I don't even remember. If you know that would be great.

#1 wrong section, please read before posting in a section that is defined for development only, not general questions.
#2 TMobile retails stores won't even care, probably won't even check.
#3 If they did check, as long as you are on build T959VUVKB5 or KD1 your fine.

What problems were you having with it anyhow?
It sounds like you must have been trying to make modifications to it that are either untested or not designed to work properly with the SGS4G.
I know alot of people call it the Vibrant 4G but it's not the same, there are alot of differences with it, so it's easy for someone with less experience to mess it up. Not saying you don't have experience, but it sounds like you breeze through phones quicker than the flick of a light switch.

I thought you might have helped being that it was your thread i got the rom from and I asked the question there, sent you a pm but this is the last day to return (typing while files are moving from one sd to the other). Wrong again, you seemed to be one of the ones actually developing something for this phone and not wasting time to criticize people. Glad to be returning the phone and returning to the Vibrant forum.
People should do what I'm about to before buying a phone they want to mess with and that is check out these forums what's going with the development and if there are an overwhelming amount of negativity. And I know that's what some of you did, just thought I'd save someone the time of posting it.
Once again I am learning as I'm sure some others out there are too.

I have 2 phones the one I am exchanging (returning) the Sam T959V Galaxy S 4 and the Sam T959 Vibrant. That's at least how it's printed on the boxes.
I have not done anything from the Vibrant forum on the Galaxy S 4g phone. I flashed the rom from the thread you posted and went from root to no root. All SU apps wouldn't even open because what was needed wasn't in the needed directory(s).
All's good. Thanks.

It honestly doesn't have much to do with negativity.
More so with forum etiquette. I'm not trying to be rude to you, I merely telling you, no matter how much you post "Don't flame me" "don't be negative"...
If you post in the wrong forum anywhere on XDA, you're gonna get a negative response. That's a given not specific to this section.
I didn't see your post over there, until just now. Again cross posting is a no no, I understand you needed and answer. The best place for that would have been the general forum. not the development forum. It clearly says General Q&A section.
You can return the phone, I love my SGS4G and it works great. It seems like your mixing the two issues. Other than a few people on here, the majority get along just fine with no issues.

So if you have gone through 103 phones in one year, than either you're extremely picky, or you just like new phones.
Either way I don't fault you, but don't bag on this forum because you don't know the right section to post in, and you haven't even posted for help regarding the "issues" with your SGS4G.

Didn't have a problem with the cards and don't have a problem with the phone either so I didn't go over to the threads you posted. I have the sd card that came with the phone and the 32 as well as a 16 for the T959. Use my computer a lot to transfer files and have multiple directories to keep it all separate. No problem there.
If I hadn't bought it after the T959 I am sure I would be keeping it as you are. The amount of development here on XDA is great and I didn't realize that the 2nd memory card (the internal on the T959) that is used like a 2nd sd card but at the same time like the internal memory on all the other phones was removed on the SGS4G. Became spoiled with that as well as the builds on the T959 for themes, mods, roms, etc. Don't mean to insult anyone so please don't take it that way.
You've answered all my questions, thank you and I will contact the correct person letting them know question answered, posted in wrong forum (and multiple times, won't forget that) so this thread can be removed or however they handle the errors (or maybe I'm the first).

Yeah I hear you. I came from a G1 so it was an upgrade. Not much of an upgrade for a vibrant user.
The threads I posted were actually quotes from posts that you had posted on other forums indicating you had issues, but not in the SGS4G forums, in the vibrant forums.
Glad you have no issues with it. No harm done, just to avoid this always check which forum your posting in and try to avoid cross posting.

T-Mobile customer service and I called the store, but I have been so side tracked I didn't even there. Tomorrow is my 20th day technically and just noticed I had a lock screen on it the phone I need to get off so maybe I'll just keep this too and try and make some changes to it to make it fun.
Customer service has been wrong before, but I have always worked things out with them. Been with them since 2000 and am down to 5 lines from 7 and a data line so they have been pretty good but then again I guess policy is policy. Then again I do know that customer service (return by mail) was up to 30 days and the store was way shorter. I am surprised it was 20.

I'm on rooted stock firmware. I've been postponing the recent update but this morning the postpone icon finally grayed out. I made it disappear by hiring the back button, but is it safe fire me to apply the update on rooted stock? If it's important, I also deleted the original clock app in an attempt to install the stock android one.
Also, is there a step by step method for backing up my room in case something goes wrong? Directions on topics I find here tend to be a little to general for me.

Use nandroid backup in the recovery menu for your backups
ok thanks, but how do i use the rocovery menu and nandroid? I dontthink I have them installed, unless superoneclick automatically does so.

Why do you sidekick n00bs constantly spam the dev forum? If you have no idea how to use nandroid (which isn't an app btw.) Or get into recovery, you have no business rooting your phone in the first place. Its people like you who have ruined the sidekick forum. Even the mods don't want anything to do with it.

Its people like me (normal, average people)that direct traffic to this website and give these communities some recognition, and encourage handset makers to release phones which aren't heavily locked, allowing people to see the value of open source. Its people like you, who harass average people simply for being average people, that make these boards more difficult to use and dense for the average person. Has it occured to you that if there were a step by step guide on this board explaining what recovery and nandroid is, where to find them, and how to use them, that people like me wouldn't be "spamming" the boards with questions? By the way, every time people post angry comments like yours, complaining about a question being asked instead of answering it,it delays a solution and bumps the topic, making it more prominent on the board and encouraging the questioner to keep posting.
In short, start solving problems or get out of the way.

If thats is directed to me then wow. Idk about most of that stuff you just said. There are step by step guides for everything you just mentioned. But anyways the only reason people get frustrated is cause the same questions get asked in the wrong place.. Over and over. Most people here dont mind answering and helping people . If you took the time to google any of that stuff you just mentioned you wouldn't have to worry about people getting annoyed by seeing another thread for a question in the development section. I'm very kind and will help anyone who needs it that asks in a decent manner. If you had just went into a thread of mine or another existing one and asked this question instead of making an entire new thread for it trust me it would have been answered with no problem, wether someone else answered the questions or myself

But in order to do a backup yu need to have CWM. There is a thread for it here in the development section. Once you follow those instructions and install cwm you can do a nandroid backup from there. Just go into recovery go to backup/restore then select backup and it will backup your rom to your sd card.

not taking sides, but falkner is right. doing a search on this forum gives such poor results, if is searched 'how to make a nandroid backup' i would get a bunch of threads that poorly describes how to execute said topic, Especially for someone that has no idea what it is.
its never anyones fault when questions like these come up, but it would be Extremely helpful for the sk4g community if someone made up a more elaborate 'bible' that explains how to do everything even if you've never held an android phone before.
sidenote: i dont understand what the big deal is, its not like the sidekick forums are overflooding with new threads these days...
something to think about: if you're teaching someone how to drive a car and they have no idea how to turn on the headlights, do you bash them and yell at them for trying to drive a car? (poor metaphor, but same concept SHOULD apply here)

No, there is nothing wrong with questions. What IS annoying to the overall community is that half of the dimwits can't read through threads, Google search, or at the very least, post the question in the general thread, rather than the development thread.
I'm sorry, but honestly, there is so much info about rooting etc. I taught myself everything by doing research. If you can't find it, then you aren't looking hard enough.

I flash my GF's phone with Gingerbread and after a few roms shes having voicemail notification and low wifi calling volume issues. Ive been told flashing back to Froyo will fix these so ive decided to return the phone back to stock. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this? Maybe an Odin file containing the stock rom? I would like it to have root again but its not a requirement. I can always root it again myself. Main thing at the moment is completely restoring it to how it was from the factory.

You can flash this via ODIN. From there you can use Kies Mini to get back to stock.
If you're just wanting KD1 with root, check out the Bible.
The Bible is a good read; it has a lot of stuff in it.
Unless your gf is giving you too much grief about making her phone meet it's potential... you should update her rom to one of the new official amazing custom GB roms. Any issue she could have has been or is being addressed. You need to read. READ. Search for your issues and read. Don't waste people's time asking questions like this as you will learn more figuring it out on your own.
I had a voicemail notification issue... I read and figured out you need the Visual Voicemail app to have functioning voicemail. Your wifi issue has been discussed thoroughly MANY times. Read and u shall be enlightened with knowledge and can impress her with an amazing phone.
As the last poster said you are on 2.3.3. That was before the devs had the official code. Follow their direction, flash an official rom, read the forum for issues and fixes the rom may have (even stock roms have issues) and give her phone back improved.

Thank you. I will try flashing the WiFi calling listed in that thread first to see if it fixes the low sound problem. My main point was I wanted to restore it back to 100% factory stock for a fresh start.

She does not care about potential, she wants reliability. I dont want anything custom I just want it back to how it was shipped from the factory. I have read plenty. Last time I was here Gingerbread was out for these phones and people were using it with no issues, however that is not the case for me. I was told that the only way to fix those issues were to go back to Froyo so thats all I was asking. Visual voicemail is already installed in the phone but that is not a fix, that is a workaround. I need to fix the issue. I dont even want an official rom that has issues. I want the one it came with when it was shipped so its reliable and functional. If it was my phone I would be all for messing with it but I dont need to be troubleshooting her phone all the time. I am experienced with HTC's not Samsungs, all this Samsung formatted ROM business is confusing to me. All I was asking was a simple "Flash this via Odin to get back to stock" kinda answer, not for someone to tell me to read. It was a simple question that required a simple answer.
Sorry, but that simple question really only required a simple search.
A simple search and a little effort would have brought you to this thread, and solve your dilemma.

I think if you had made the effort to find a fix and actually READ you might understand why I encouraged you to read up on it instead of asking the redundant question that has been answered more than once in the forum. All these lazy questions clog the forum with junk threads that bury all the good information. Think about it that way.

Visual voicemail is not a work around. If it is not installed u will not get voicemail notifications.

Whats up with the noobs lately telling people to read? Is nobody willing to help out someone with a question these days?
This is the kinda answer I was looking for... Simple and answers my question.

Thank you for that link. That eventually led me to an answer. That thread did not exist last time I had checked for a solution.

I think my statement above answered this question...
"All these lazy questions clog the forum with junk threads that bury all the good information."
If you read a little maybe you would see the frustration from the developers from people not reading. We need these guys! We don't need to keep pissing them off and making it not worth their effort to share their work with all of us!!

Im pretty sure the Q&A forum is for questions and answers. I did not post a question in the Development thread. Im not too sure how asking how to stock restore a phone will piss any developers. Cant expect everything good to stay on the first page forever. Remember theres a search feature to find anything that will get buried
Glad you found your answer....

Thank you. The GF will be excited when I give her the good news.
Just an update. Restored the phone with the KD1 file a few posts back. It worked like a charm. Everything is back to normal and 100% working, even have root still. Thanks to all that helped.

I know it's an old posting and solved problem, but not for me. I've been receiving normal Voicemail notifications for months - after rooting my phone and removing the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app. Then, suddenly, 3 days ago, the notification icon simply disappeared. So, sometimes the answers posted here are helpful and correct for many users, but they are certainly not foolproof. Criticizing someone who posts a question and assuming that person did no research toward solving the problem is shortsighted.
Also, I just restored the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app using the free version of Titanium Backup. This did get the notification icon to start working again - at least for one test message left by my wife. Too soon to see if it this fix will last.
My questions are these: why did my Voicemail notification work fine for months - without the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app installed, and what made the icon stop working?

No idea. But, I had same issue long long time ago. delete data from TMV app with titanium and then delete the whole app. re download it from playstore, install and was good to go. Try it.
Received this message today and judging by it, my phone might already be affected.
What am I supposed to do now? I removed my SD card and Sim.
Really need help asap.
I only keep seeing posts about on how to prevent it, but there's no posts on how to remove it when youre infected...
Will a single factory reset solve i

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
A factory reset will merely restore your device to it's original state but it won't have much to do with stagefright. "Stagefright" is not some piece of code that invaded your phone, it's a way to use existing Android ode for potentially undesirable actions. You didn't mention which device/ROM you have so I can't tell you if your manufacturer has release updated firmware, but you can read all about Stagefright at http://www.xda-developers.com/stagefright-explained-the-exploit-that-changed-android/.
Don't worry TOO much about this. Making good regular backups can buy you some peace of mind and so is making sure you don't open MMS messages from unknown sources.
Good luck!
I'm using a generic android phone running on kitkat. What am I suppose to do now? Stupid me, I didn't turn off the retrieve mms automatically.
I'm afraid to use my phone right now.

Once again, there is no reason to assume that anything is wrong with your phone just because you received a "spam" MMS. If a factory reset somehow makes you feel better, then you can do that but it will cause you more grief than it's worth if you have to restore all your apps and data. I suggest you simply keep enjoying your phone as before and if you have any questions or concerns, ask in the appropriate forum, such as the general Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help.
