[Q] IMMEDIATE HELP REQUIRED! Root Sensation Xe on hboot 1.29 - HTC Sensation

Hello there, I was trying to root my Htc Sensation XE, these are the specs:
Bootloader locked
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL
eMMC-Boot
Android Version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense Version: 3.6
Software Number: 3.33.401.106
Kernel Version: 3.0.16-g31a4fc7 [email protected]#1 SMP PREEMPT
Baseband Version: 11.76A.3504.00U_11.24A.3504.31_M
Build Number: 3.33.401.106 CL391535 release-keys
Browser Version: WebKit/534.30
I need immediate help on this issue. My hboot is on 1.29 and when i searched for S-OFF , i got mostly 2 methods. One was from htcdev.com to unlock the bootloader via htc site, but somehow i've been experiencing issues with the site (Whenever i log in, i'm logged out like 2-3 seconds later..). That leaves the other method, the one requiring the wire trick.. I've tried that so many times now, every time it says:
Do not remove sdcard from phone
Do wire-trick now!! Look instructions at web
Waiting device....
Found device... Please wait...
Getting into bar.....
Raising Glass
SUCCESS - Taking a sip.
SUCCESS - Beer is tasty.
SUCCESS - Beer is tasty.
SUCCESS - Beer is tasty.
SUCCESS - Beer is tasty.
SUCCESS - Buddies and Beer
Checking alcohol level......
Let's take one more......
S-OFF Failed
Errorcode: 66732337
ErrorMsg: Still sober
Quit....
Press ENTER to exit.....
I'm really worried, as i want to do a Custom ROM as soon as possible, but am really confused what to do.. Please help!!

No man, you have understood it wrong.
1)You should UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER with HTCdev website. If you do not unlock your bootloader you won't be able to do the next steps
2)Install the recovery with fastboot
3)Root
4)S-Off with Juopunutbear.
5)SuperCID if you want to
6)Custom ROM
That's the order of things, don't change it, or you'll face problems. Try the HTCDev website untill you unlock the bootloader
Read THIS thread, it has everything you need. It's for hboot 1.27, but it works with 1.29

actually he can do the juopunutbear method for S-OFF without using the HTCdev website
but yes first root

Just keep trying.

Juopunutbear Prerequisites:
* Be unlocked using the HTCdev bootloader unlock.
* Be rooted (have superuser and/or an unsecured boot image installed)
* Have a spare microSD card or back up all contents of your SDcard
* Have fastboot and adb drivers installed and working (windows)
* Have usb debugging enabled
* Have a length of insulated wire of sufficient length to join the contact points for your device (paperclip)
At least that's the only way I know to do it

I've seen so much information and so many ways to root and I don't know what to do,all the information is so spread out and so tangled that i can't get my mind around it.
Would anyone willing to give me a clear set of intructions or redirect me to a thread that would help me root and s-off?
I would greatley apreaciate it.
Your options are to either downgrade or unlock with HTCdev
In the general section....
There are two threads for downgrading.
Also one thread for using HTCdev.
On my phone right now so its way to much effort getting the links.
Here's a link to a guide for unlocking the bootloader through htcdev.com and then using SuperOneClick to get root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390496
Question: why is it necessary to unlock the bootloader to get root? What does the bootloader do?
The zergRush exploit (which is also used by SuperOneClick) works on my phone, I can also copy the su binary to /system/bin/ but it is gone after I reboot my phone.
(Forgive my n00biness.)

Use the "Search" button, use Google, phone a friend or even ask your grandmother but please & please don't use HTCDEV to unlock your phone. Virtually any other method is (to me) acceptable. Please read the stickies in the dev section.

I would have to agree with this. So many people choose HTC-dev because it's the 'easier option'. It's not. More people seem to end up with problems using HTC-dev and also revolutionary would make life easier for you. A lot of people here have also said kiss your warranty goodbye if you use HTC-dev.

Bootloader protects the partitions from being written to. When it's not unlocked either by S-OFF exploits or by HTCDev tool, you can't really write anywhere besides /data - all your writes are bogus and will be gone, the data isn't actually written.

[Q] having trouble getting S-Off on my Sensation

I have an HTC Sensation I bought online in China.
I've been trying to gain S-OFF with revolutionary-0.4pre4
I have installed all the drivers and tried it in sync mode, in debugging mode, uninstalled HTC sync on my PC and tried again and still no win.
I've been trying to read up on it but not having much luck. Some other people with v.1.52.708.3 were also having problems. Do I need to wait for a new version of Revolutionary or do I have another option?

Press (almost) any key to exit.
after installing drivers on your pc try to reset your pc
then try to connect your phone, maybe this will help
I already tried that
Did you unlock bootloader first?
What your bootloader says on top? **locked** or **unlocked**?
If your bootloader is locked than unlock by HtcDev then try to s-off again.
Thanks, I didn't realize I had to unlock the bootloader first. For some reason the site is not working for me though. After I log in and select my phone the "begin ..." button doesn't do anything.

I use this site "[Exclusive] TacoRoot By Justin Case And Reid Holland: A New Temporary Root Exploit For All HTC Devices" as guide to using TacoRoot, since zerg root not work in "Unrevoked".
I ran along TacoRoot with Unrevoked or you can run unrevoked while TacoRoot. Because TacoRoot will only temporary root. Unrevoked will do the S-Off ing. But other's has different idea. But this work on mine. Oh, one more thing I thing TacoRoot only run well on GingerBread since it not work well on Ice Cream Sandwich when I try.

[Q] Rogers001 CID not changing to 111111

Hey guys, so I am trying to root my phone and I am following djrbliss' method using X-Factor Root Exploit.
When I run the bat file it seems to work well - do the 2 restores - but after the second one it shows this:
1800KB/s (64527 bytes in 0.035s)
[-] Failed.
[+] Rebooting into bootloader mode
Press any key to continue -
...InfoCID: ROGER001
OKAY
If it's not 111111 exploit has failed.
So has it failed?
The latest drivers are installed, I have the android SDK installed, HTC Sync is not running.

Awesome! So I did that, everything worked perfect except for! The LAST step :
On your phone you will now see the disclaimer. Please read this carefully as this action may void your warranty. Use the Volume buttons to highlight your choice, and the Power button to make your selection. If you select Yes, your phone will be reset to its’ factory default settings, and your bootloader will be unlocked. If you select No, your phone will reboot and no modifications will have been made.
This did NOT appear. What do? : /
Punch in the same command until it works?
At the top of the fastboot screen it shows ******TAMPERED******** and under *********UNLOCKED************
does that mean I am okay to just move on? Perhaps the prev. owner went through this?
Weird that it didn't show you the warning (or you pressed yes without paying attention)
But if it says Unlocked, then it is completed

Alright that being said, would you be able to point me in the right direction as to what I should be doing next?
Is my phone Rooted?
Possibly. Do you have the superuser app installed?
If not install twrp recovery and flash the superuser zip

[Q] Where do I begin?

Hi guys,
I was in the rooting scene for the HTC One S in its first year of release with the Viper Rom. After the phone overheated, HTC replaced the motherboard, and removed literally everything I had done to it. A couple months later, I re-rooted my phone with HBOOT 2.15 Roms to only notice that I was stuck on the 2G-Only issue, and HTC was happy to fix that and remove everything again.
So here I am with a nothing-done-to phone, It has been almost a year since I did anything to the phone (yes running pure stock for a year is hell), and I do not know where to start. Anyway, here is my phone's information:
CPU 1512 Mhz
Android Version: 4.1.1
Software Number: 3.14.531.19.710RD
Kernel Version: 3.4.10-g0f5103e
VLE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT: 2.15.0000
RADIO: 1.13.50.05.31
I am familiar with the terms because I have been a long time user in the HTC One S forums. I just need a guide so I don't ruin my phone because I'm a little rusty. Do not give me a step by step, just tell me what I need to do in chronological order, and I think I can find my way around the forums for the tutorials. For example, should I unlock bootloader first then S-OFF. or should I S-OFF first before anything.
Please help me out, as I think I have been far out of the game for too long. And I am very eager to get back to work on this phone. I miss being rooted.
oh, and I want to be able to use the most stable LIBERTY ROM without being stuck on 2G
I would try and get S-OFF if possible. This phone needs it.
Try moonshine.io. If it works, it will do practically everything for you (unlock bootloader, S-OFF etc...).

Read the moonshine.io page. It tells you what it does.
Good luck!
The latest moonshine for One S T-mobile is for version 3.14.531.11. Would that work for 3.14.531.19?

Unable to change CID

Hi,
im currently stuck on the step of changing the CID on a smartphone of a friend. the Current CID is T-MOB101 with an unlocked bootloader ( HBOOT 2.15) S-On and an old CM running)
Id like to update to HBOOT 2.16 but im failing at step one, chaning the CID to the SCID.
Ive tried many times to flash mmcblk0p4 with the modified data (yes, ive done that) but it doesnt stick. No matter what i do i always get
fastboot oem readcid
...
(bootloader) cid: T-MOB101
Ive even verified the uploaded file, its fine.

Take a look at moonshine or rumrunner.
If I remember correctly, facepalm isn't usable, anymore, with the t-mobile version of the One S if the latest official firmware got installed.
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Labs
Well, both dont seem to work with the CM installed.
I guess i have to roll back to an official FW and try again
Also ive just noticed, im unable to mount /sdcard, in both recovery and rom.
Kinda strange
Facepalm and moonshine definitely don't work with CM. They're both meant to be used with a sense rom.
Rumrunner, on the other hand, should be usable with CM11.
The storage issue should be solvable by flashing a RUU.

The RRU ive found for my device ( TMO_DE ) doenst like it either, propably because its severy behind the actual FW on the device (2.38.111.10 is the latest RUU ive found, but the current version on the phone is detected as 3.16.111.11)
With S-ON you can only use RUUs that have the same or a higher firmware version than your phone. Downgrading is only possible with S-OFF.
The latest RUU for T-Mobile Germany that I could find euqals version 3.16.111.7. I know that the One M9 accepts older RUUs as long as only the digits behind the last dot mismatch. I'm not sure whether the same applies to the One S, though, since I set my One S S-OFF before I used RUUs for the first time.
Alternatively, you could contact Llabtoofer's RUU service. Be aware that it's not for free.
Rumrunner (like all methods for older devices like the One S) isn't perfect. It might happen that you need to try them up to twenty times before they actually work as intended. Double check whether you followed the prerequisites & instructions on the official website. The HTC Sync Manager still being installed and the usage of an USB 3.0 port instead of an 2.0 port are only two of the possibles reasons why Rumrunner might fail.
Thanks for the RUU
and for trying an USB 2.0 port: My devices dont have them anymore :/
Anyways, im very grateful for your help
