Question about firmware update - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, I'm from the evo3d forums, and i just got my tf300t and only have 2 questions ...how do I know/check what my current firmware is? Also, there is a pending firmware update but I am not sure what it is for...I'm guessing its jellybean but after seeing the jelly bean issues thread I am hesistant to download it so I'm curious to know if there is any way to know what the update is for without actually doing it, that little firmware message keeps popping up and its starting to freak me out...the suspense is killing me lol someone please advise

Go to settings - about tablet at the bottom - all info is there. If your android version is anything other than 4.1.1 then that would be why you're getting tagged for the update.

Thanks my current version is 4.0.3...should I update or stay with ics? That thread about the jelly bean issues that many people are having with this tablet have me hesitant to update combined with the fact that once u go JB there is no way to get back to ICS..what do you guys suggest?

Are you wanting to root your tablet? If so, stay on ICS.

I would hold out.

Personally I would stick with ICS for now. I updated my girlfriends tablet to JB and now the backspace on her dock works intermittently.

If you're up for unlocking the thing, then you can try one of the JB ROMs with the option to return to ICS (even stock ICS) later. I've been running JB since July on AOKP or BAKED BlackBean and love it. Both of those boot with the ICS bootloader so you're able to swap back and forth.

I am also in the same boat I'm on 4.0.3 and just got the update notification. I had updated as soon as I got my tablet but I guess that turn out to be the minor update. Now knowing that I am still on ICS. I was curious to know where I can get information about Rooting my tablet. Also if I am on ICS do I need to unlock the bootloaders?

Look in the Dev section for the debugfs method. This method does not require unlocking. This method only works on ICS.

Yea I think I'm going to stick with ics for the time being, is there anyway to stop the firmware update message from popping out or disable it entirely as I would certainly hate to press the install button by mistake when I'm drunk or something lol

Stock ics manual update question!

OK, so I'm starting to get impatient with this whole ics ota update getting suspended and have to wait for longer time thing and I'm thinking about manually updating my i9020a Nexus S phone...
But I got some question that I need answer before doing so:
I heard that there's a serious battery issue with ics, is it a huge problem or something minor and something that I won't notice?
If I don't like ics, can I downgrade to gingerbread without rooting?
Is there any risk of anything from losing data to bricking my phone when I try to update to ics manually?
Can you give me a link to the ics rom for i9020a for me?
Is updating manually just to get it early worth it?
Thanks a lot guys! And I'm kinda new to this XDA thing nor I'm a developers, so can you guys maybe give me a tip on how to use this site?

I don't think the i9020a has official ics yet, think it got halted before the rollout to your device but after the other devices

can I undo jelly bean OTA and restore ICS?

By browsing the thread here I feel updating to jelly bean may not work out well for everyone. I got the OTA downloaded and sitting in my tf300, is there anyway to back out of it once it is installed? Please let me know .... TIA
I dont see why not, but you have to unlock BL, root, install custom recovery and flash back to a ICS rom. So if your intent is to stay pure stock and keep warranty, your probably not gonna be able to roll back to ICS if you commit to JB.

I tried to roll back by loading the firmware on internal SD. It updated but left me on jb. My boot loader is not unlocked so I would speculate no, but others are trying to do the same, so you might search other posts for this.

I just pulled the trigger and installed JB. I don't feel much differences. Given I just got the tf300 for less than a week, time will tell.

I'm having issues since I updated to JB and I am BL locked but rooted. Can you confirm this is 100% true, that you can't get back to ICS w/out unlocking and have installed a custom recovery? I was hoping to keep my warranty intact, this is exactly the reason I did. I think I may be sending this back to ASUS to be fixed under the warranty

Help with unlock boot loader app

I just bout a new transformer tf300 today. Got home and turned it on and allowed all updates to go through. As I started researching how to unlock bootloader I realized that in order to use the app it only works for ice cream sandwich. When I look at my tablet I realize it had updated 2 jelly bean . Is there any other app or way to unlock bootloader or anyway to restore ice cream sandwich. I am not exactly a noob I know a few things about rooting a device but I would not consider myself an expert. All the help would be much appreciated thank you.

The BL unlock app is from Asus directly, it should still work, but if not then they will update it im sure in a few days or so.

It works on JB too. Go ahead and unlock, but remember it's irrevocable once unlocked and voids your warranty.

[Q] able to keep ROOT after 4.1 update?

Well we've already heard the great new TF700's gonna be getting JB within 72hrs. Now here comes this maybe stupid question since Im a noob , will we be able to keep our root by using like Voodoo OTA rootkeeper after such a major update, or we have to wait for a new root tool?
How are we supposed to know before its released?
Wait until someone confirms OTA Doorkeeper works. I'm going to give it a try when I get the update. No one can really tell unless the app doesn't support JB

Since TF300 has already got it's JB update, does anyone know if rootkeeper works on that one after the update?

We heard some news that TF300 after upgraded to JB able to keep root, so we believe we should able to...but for our TF700, only time will tell!
Or if you have an unlocked bootloader you could simply keep using what you have and wait for a day or two(i know its hard) and the awesome devs of this community will have a rooted rom out based on the new JB Update. The roms out now based off of ICS and the TF300 JB are already great. It wont take long to get the little bugs squashed with official source. just my humble opinion.
In order to keep root with the TF300T JB OTA you had to use SuperSU and Voodoo together. Others staying with Superuser and Voodoo lost root. Make sure you check the keep root function in SuperSU's settings though before starting the update. Also worked with the 4.1.1 update last night.

Should I just wait to root until after the update? I have a completely stock infinity as I just got it a couple days ago...

how exactly they both work together? since I haven't used SuperSU before so any detail would be helpful.
Is that I just toggle ON SuperSU's OTA survival mode before the OTA, and restore the root by using Voodoo after the OTA?

seriously we won't know anything until it is released.
if you want root don't accept any update until you hear from the devs that it is safe.

[Q] New OTA Update

Got the new OTA update this week on Skyrocket on my rooted phone. It will down load but when it reboots to install it starts up in in Clockworkmod screen so does not Install. What can I do to install update????
Please search the forums before posting nonsense. You can't receive OTA updates using a custom recovery. You need to be stock. Odin back to stock ICS and then try.

Go to Here and return the device to complete stock (unrooted) form then apply update... remember, if your happy with your device the way it is I wouldn't bother
Thanks Guys. Sorry about posting again before I read other posts of the same. Will just leave it as is till Jelly Bean comes out as one of you suggest. Thanks Again...
I also got the OTA show up on my phone. I do not intend on unrooting and installing at the moment but am curious what the update is for. Anyone know? ATT of course has nothing on their site.

new OTA update
I also received an ota update this morning. The only reason I had my skyrocket rooted was so I could try out the jelly bean roms. restored to stock and now my phone is telling me that the software is up to date and wont let me get the ota again. Does anyone know how I can get it to show up again. By the way I am a noob with this kind of stuff

Why are people in these forums so rude to someone who is just asking a simple question? Because I would like to have my GS2 on a full jelly bean firmware that's not buggy and that is not ICS. I've tested the full jelly bean on another device and it is a lot smoother and definitely better in all aspects than ICS. In my opinion anyway.

This isn't a jellybean upgrade tho. Its just some enhancements and a new modem to ICS.
So, I don't WANT the upgrade, but Device management keeps loading up and won't go away unless I hit the home key. It keeps popping up and won't be satisfied until I download the upgrade, which I do not want to do. Is there any way to turn it off?

How is that rude? I asked why you would go through the trouble to get such a minor stock update. This isn't jb, man. It's a maintenance update. Chill out
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
JB hasnt even officially been released for the Galaxy S3 and the chances of SR getting it before S3 is 0.004855% and there is no "official" word on if its even going to come out for Skyrocket yet alone if ATT will go through with it. They did say Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE but that can also mean just the international version or whatever.
Remember it has to go through Samsung then ATT.
Your best bet for JB right now is the AOSP based ones.

He's not being rude, that was a legitimate question. I would ask the same. And trust me, a small update like this one wouldn't be JB. Sad, but you can get that idea out of your head. Besides, I'd scream if the SR got official JB before the S3
