I was thinking about purchasing a Samsung Galaxy Music Player 5.0 for my mom but for the price/specs I notice a used Infuse is a better deal. I was thinking of just buying a used Infuse off ebay and turning it into just a Music Player/Camera. Is there way to make the phone work with out a sim card? and without it displaying no sim card?
Yes u can use it wothout the simcard but will show a sign in the status bar that there in no simcard.

Thanks for the info! Do you know if I will have any problems browsing web pages or accessing the market place with only wifi running and no sim card?

You will have no problems...I do it all the time, the HTC vivid is my main phone so i rarely have my sim in my infuse...market works, YouTube works, browser works...everything works as long as you have WiFi...if you don't have WiFi then obviously things that require internet will not work

I gave my daughter my hd2 when I left t-mo. I put android on it (basically the only way that phone was usable) and she uses it for games and YouTube just fine. I even found an app that was free that gave her a phone number and a way to send and receive texts with as long as she's on wifi. Next time I'm playing around I'm going to see if I can use that number to sign her up for a voip service.
Android is a wonderful thing!

You can use Google Voice in conjunction with app such as Talkatone, get a number from Google and make/receive free calls and text over WiFi.
I use this setup with my N7 and it works great.....no data plan or phone service required...and even better, these are free apps!!!
Also set the phone to airplane mode. Then toggle on wifi.
Airplane mode may stop it from searching for phone radio signal and conserve battery. I don't know if not having a sim card in will already do that.
Airplane mode on her phone is constant.

I am about to travel overseas. I'm not going for long enough to warrant getting a PASYG sim but will have near constant access to wifi. I'm with t-mo USA and have wifi calling set up and use Google voice for texting and vm. What's the easiest way to turn voice and mobile data off but keep wifi on? Best solution I could think of was to take the sim out, are there other better options?
Idk about your phone since im an evo owner but you should be able to turn on airplane mode on your phone and have wifi on at the same time. I do it quite often on my evo actually. So you will have all your carriers radios off so no charges, and still use voice for calls and texts.
Try doing it really quick and report back if u can or can't so I can try to help with another solution

Edit: ok so this is not perfect. Wifi calling is disabled when in airplane mode, which IMO is stupid. I guess they are trying to get some roaming fees if you leave the Intl wifi signal.
Going to try wifi calling with the sim out.
All but wifi. And no problem

If there is no t-mo sim card, wifi calling is also disabled. I tried with no sim and a UK PAYG sim both same result, no wifi calling.
Well that's two good options that should work but don't.
Ok I found a solution. Send me a pm and I will type you a guide and some screen shots in the afternoon tomorrow. I have to go to bed for work in the morning. So once I get off ill send you instructions on how to do it.

Did anyone try the Wifi-Calling app on Infuse ?. Its a popular app on T-mobile, i saw it on the vibrant & works great. I extracted it from the vibrant and installed it on Infuse. It didn't work. It force closes. May be our Infuse kernal wudn't support it.Btw- i am on Infused 2.3.3.
Any help/thoughts ?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Obviously, there's a simple reason.
It's a T-Mobile app ONLY. You need T-Mobile service for it to work, because it connects to their servers with your subscriber info.
tl;dr, It won't work without T-Mobile service.
Wifi calling
so if i unlock it i can use it?
You would need a TMo voice account to use this. Better option is to use SIP with many of the free clients on Android to make wifi calls. GB even has internet calling built in.

I tried with my friends T-Mobile SIM on infuse (my ph is unlocked). So my infuse is on T-Mobile service. I cud make regular calls and data too works fine, but still Wifi-calling app just force closes :-(.

What? My wifi at home is as 'official' as any other network.
I got it to work on the Darky-ROMs. No point in making a new thread so here it is
DarkyRom_T-Mobile_Fix
If you need me to get it working on any other ROM, do let me know.
I know there is a mod in the other section of the Infuse form to get this to work. It is to much for me to understand but maby it will help you.

I will purchse a Samsung Nexus S I9020T(T mobile version) unlocked
will the data , 3G , MMS settings etc of those settings will be pushed by the t mobile network to the device so I can use them or I have to manualy put them ? wil it be a headache or everything will come into the device immediatly as I put the Sim card in it ?
I am concerned about that...
thanks
Yuu pop I. Yuur similar card n activate it

Just put in your sim and whatever plan you had on the sim, will be on the phone
Sent from my Gewgle fone using XDA App
Are there any restrictions on VOIP with that plan? That is the 100 min plus unlimited text and data (5gb @4G then edge) plan right?
Not really, you can voip all you want at 4g but it will get really slow after 5gbs as you already know, but i think after 10gbs they cut you off, but i doubt you can get that high. I usually got 8-9gbs using phone 24/7 and tethering so youll be good

so do I need to put the settings manually or it's all automatically there after the sim sits in the phone and work ?
No settings required. Just insert your sim card and good to go.

At my sisters house I don't get good service and I have people to text...but everyone is all about the whatsapp messanger but I cannot for the life of me figure it out... they say they will send me a message to verify but I never get a message :/ I deleted it and reinstalled it but no luck so any other ideas? Or help with that?

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.pinger.textfree
Well I was hoping that I could still use my number so I don't confuse people with mismatched numbers :/

I think you can use google and keep your number. I remember I set it up but didn't want to pay to use my original number or something like that. I can't remember.
Okay thanks man I shall take a look into that I'm trying anything anyone offers that whatsapp never sends me a confirmation text so it doesn't work:/

I use Text+ and have found it to be great. Though it does give a different number my wife just put it in her address book as my tablet. I can at least use it both on my phone and tablet and still have the same number for both.
I might have to try one of these. When I go hang out a my cousins house my phone switches the network to telcel since we are close to the border so this would help me out some.
Gosms is nice..
*Kingpin... get it?*
I use mysms. I can use it from the PC, tablet and phone, and it syncs the message throughout all my devices. Its also free from the market.
google voice does this... works great

This is what I use on my Kindle Fire, and it works alright. Not sure if it has a notification alert.
New to S3. Seemingly frozen. Why does every app I install take "forever" to launch?
Just got my s3 sent to me from Verizon, replacing my nexus. Why does every app that I install, from the play store or side loaded, take about twenty seconds to start up? Is it because I don't have an SD card installed? I remember my s2 had a delay in unlocking when there was an SD card installed. When I touch the app to launch it, the phone is seemingly frozen for about twenty seconds, then the app launches and the screen dims. Any input on this? I don't have an SD card atm to install and test, unfortunately. Thank you!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium via Verizon Wireless
Not sure what's going on, but screen dimming is probably just the display timeout value starting to take effect while you're waiting for the app to initialize. Some apps definitely take awhile to startup, but most are ready reasonably quickly on my phone.
Have you tried disabling Settings->Power Saving as an option?
- ooofest
My screen timeout is set to 30sec. By the time the app launches, the screen is dimming. I've tried clearing data for tw launcher, every possible option is disabled. I'll even make a darn video and YouTube it.

My efforts were wasted and I appreciate your time, fellow community members. The phone apparently prefers to use mobile data...I say this because I didn't have the sim card in cause I'm using my nexus to communicate. But I was on wifi on the s3. I put the sim card in and voila! No more of the apps hanging upon launch. Which I find odd and troubling.
I thank any of you that took the time to click this topic. Thank you.

Probably not the phone but the apps preferring data connection. I run my test Rezound without sim but haven't seen this problem. Haven't tried it on S3.

Just confirmed this. My apps take forever to load using wi-fi without a sim card.
Edit: Apps that don't need data open up with the same speed. Its just apps that need a data connection for some reason.
This is weird, I have two G3's & I use the 2nd one with no sim all the time.
I see no difference in app opening speed whatever when running on WiFi only with no sim installed.
