Best way to avoid Intl roaming? - HTC Sensation

I am about to travel overseas. I'm not going for long enough to warrant getting a PASYG sim but will have near constant access to wifi. I'm with t-mo USA and have wifi calling set up and use Google voice for texting and vm. What's the easiest way to turn voice and mobile data off but keep wifi on? Best solution I could think of was to take the sim out, are there other better options?

Idk about your phone since im an evo owner but you should be able to turn on airplane mode on your phone and have wifi on at the same time. I do it quite often on my evo actually. So you will have all your carriers radios off so no charges, and still use voice for calls and texts.
Try doing it really quick and report back if u can or can't so I can try to help with another solution

Edit: ok so this is not perfect. Wifi calling is disabled when in airplane mode, which IMO is stupid. I guess they are trying to get some roaming fees if you leave the Intl wifi signal.
Going to try wifi calling with the sim out.

All but wifi. And no problem

If there is no t-mo sim card, wifi calling is also disabled. I tried with no sim and a UK PAYG sim both same result, no wifi calling.
Well that's two good options that should work but don't.

Ok I found a solution. Send me a pm and I will type you a guide and some screen shots in the afternoon tomorrow. I have to go to bed for work in the morning. So once I get off ill send you instructions on how to do it.

Wi-Fi Calling No Longer Counted Against Minutes (According to TM News)

Those without unlimited minutes will take comfort in the fact that T-Mobile will not count wi-fi calling against your minutes starting 5/11:
http://www.tmonews.com/2011/05/t-mobile-bring-unlimited-wifi-calling-back/
This just plain kicks butt!
I bee happy!
Awesome. Man my gf would really benefit that. She constantly goes over her minutes and we have a great wifi connection here.
+1 reason why Tmo rocks
what about international calling?

Anyone got wifi calling? this sounds like a reason to get it back. I should have froze it andnot deleted it..
This is huge in my opinion. Great selling point for those of us in the cellular industry.

You have to add this on for 9.99 a month. Its not just "free"

Isn't wifi using my bandwidth
I don't understand how t-mobile could count this against your minutes in the 1st place. Are you using their system in any way when you are on a wifi call? It's like skype right? Your using your broadband providers bandwidth. Why should you pay tmobile at all? If anything your're saving their bandwidth when making calls on wifi.
Or do I have this all wrong? It's moot for me cause I'll be on the unlimited plan when these activate tomorrow.
But when I first saw mention of the wifi calling, it never occured to me that Tmobile was charging for it.
Same thing with surfing the web on wifi...you are taking the strain off their system.
They use your bandwidth to an endpoint they own and then switch the call normally over their networks.
With WiFi connectivity you don't traverse their servers so it doesn't cost them.

....meaning Skype?
That would not be correct. Calls still have to be routed through their network--through their PBXs and switches.

Thunderbolt calling issue

Just wondering why the dbags who made this phone disabled calling with LTE disabled, or is that just my phone?

Voice isn't transmitted over LTE so it's more than likely your phone, or you have the wrong network mode selected. If you don't want to be on LTE you need to be on CDMA/EvDo Auto....

Yea, voice goes over 1x. And probly always will, there's just not enough data in voice to warrant anything more.

I am only getting LTE/CDMA or CDMA only, no other choice. I guess I will just keep it rocking LTE and just connect WiFi when I can.

There is an app called lte on/off for free in the market.

Oh, I just set it with dialer codes and I am sure it just a accesses the same menu.

I just spent a week in a 'no LTE' area. I turned off LTE in settings (CDMA only) and had no problems with phone calls.
What does LTE turned off have to do with being able to make a call.
You can take the SIM card out and still make a call.
Sent from my Verizon 4GLTE HTC Thunderbolt
Not sure but with my phone if LTE is off all my calls close before they start with a message of "Call lost".
Sent by way of carrier pidgeon.
That is not right, if your phone is doing that it is broken, take it back and get a new one.

Actually if you take the simcard out you won't be able to use LTE phone at all unless you want to browse the internet over wifi.

Nobody said data without SIM, just voice, which is accurate. You can still make calls without the sim inserted.

If you have assisted dialing turned off, it will cause issues with trying to dial numbers.
If your numbers have area codes and a "1" in your contacts, they will not work unless you have assisted dialing checked on.

Wifi-Calling on Infuse

Did anyone try the Wifi-Calling app on Infuse ?. Its a popular app on T-mobile, i saw it on the vibrant & works great. I extracted it from the vibrant and installed it on Infuse. It didn't work. It force closes. May be our Infuse kernal wudn't support it.Btw- i am on Infused 2.3.3.
Any help/thoughts ?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Obviously, there's a simple reason.
It's a T-Mobile app ONLY. You need T-Mobile service for it to work, because it connects to their servers with your subscriber info.
tl;dr, It won't work without T-Mobile service.
Wifi calling
so if i unlock it i can use it?
You would need a TMo voice account to use this. Better option is to use SIP with many of the free clients on Android to make wifi calls. GB even has internet calling built in.

I tried with my friends T-Mobile SIM on infuse (my ph is unlocked). So my infuse is on T-Mobile service. I cud make regular calls and data too works fine, but still Wifi-calling app just force closes :-(.

What? My wifi at home is as 'official' as any other network.
I got it to work on the Darky-ROMs. No point in making a new thread so here it is
DarkyRom_T-Mobile_Fix
If you need me to get it working on any other ROM, do let me know.
I know there is a mod in the other section of the Infuse form to get this to work. It is to much for me to understand but maby it will help you.

Girlfriends Exhibit suddenly lost data signal?

My girlfriend is out of town right now visiting a school and called me tonight saying her data has suddenly stopped working. She does not have the data icon in her notification bar at all.
I asked her to verify that it was not in airplane mode, and it was not. I am not familiar with her phone and am not sure what else to try.
Her phone is entirely stock and on T-Mobile. Until today she had full 4g capability, now seems to have no data what so ever.
Any suggestions on what I could have her try?
Did she contact T-Mobile and verify there is service in the area she's visiting, unfortunately T-Mobile doesn't provide service everywhere

Yes she has been there 4 days and had it up until this afternoon. Knowing her, I've got a feeling she somehow disabled it. I just didn't know if perhaps anyone would know of some way she may have done so other than turning on airplane mode.
For example, my fascinate has a mobile data toggle on the notification bar, hers does not, but I didn't know if there was one elsewhere maybe.
There should be an option to enable/disable data in settings under wireless networks.
On this phone it's settings, wireless and network, mobile networks, enable data packet. It might not say exactly the same thing on the exhibit, but it should be close to that.

[Q] No calls when on 4G?

4G is flying, but I have noticed my calls automatically go to voicemail when the RAZR is on the 4G network. It doesn't even have to be in use, they just get rerouted to voicemail. A friend doesn't have that problem on 4G with his SGS3 so I'm thinking it's not the network?

Definitely your device, I have my 4G on whenever the phone is on and haven't had a single problem. Actually, I had my tethering on a couple days ago using 4G and was browsing the web on my phone at the same time and when I got a call from the lady friend, the data connection continued without a hitch. Sounds like you may need to consider a replacement, unless someone else has some info I am not aware of. Good luck.
Same here I get calls while using 4G

Yup no problems getting calls when on 4G here either....
Telstra firmware made calls go through when in 4G but then mobile network had to be manually re-engaged... I flashed the JB from SFR and now no incoming calls. Seems to be a baseband/fw issue?
Anyway did flag it with my provider maybe it's a possible bug. Who knows.

Hmm... does sound like a baseband issue. I would almost try hard reset? I have never heard of this before. I'll stay active in this thread though if nothing is resolved via your provider. Nice speedtest, by the way
Doesn't work. I am going back to ics tonight this jb sucks on my Phone
Also, wipe and reset didn't work. I'll retry tonight.
