Galaxy S Relay 4G QWERTY phone announced ... but with what processor? - Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G

Well, T-Mobile US finally announced the next higher-end QWERTY phone, and it looks to be a disappointment ...
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/09/t-mobile-announces-the-galaxy-s-relay-4g-qwerty-keyboard-and-all/
Running on their HSPA+ 42Mbps network, the Relay 4G sports a full 5-row sliding QWERTY keyboard, 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor, 800 x 480 Super AMOLED display, 5 megapixel rear camera, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, 1GB of RAM and more.

Considering the rumors originally called for a 720p screen and an S4 processor, there are bloggers everywhere already taking a **** all over this phone. And who can blame them? With these specs, this looks very much like a device that should've been released at least a year ago.
But wait! I'm not done yet ... There's something very interesting on Samsung's website that shows the specs for this device:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SGH-T699DABTMB-specs
Processor Speed, Type // 1.5GHz, ARMv7, MSM8260A
Click to collapse
The MSM8260A? That's not an S3 chipset folks, that's S4! Now granted, it's very easy for someone to have made a mistake on the website- maybe they meant to put MSM8260 and not MSM8260A. That one little letter makes a HUGE difference though. David of tmonews.com is trying to get clarification from T-Mobile. Even if he can't get a for-sure answer, the phone is out in a week, so we'll know then.
Maybe us QWERTY lovers won't get a 720p screen yet, but maybe, JUST MAYBE, we can enjoy a phone with an up-to-date processor. Fingers crossed!

On top of everything else it's ugly

Eh, I wouldn't say it's ugly. Maybe not beautiful, but not ugly. Besides, I could give a **** about looks as long as it's a 5-row qwerty phone that is useable and performs well with decent specs. The processor will make the difference between disappointment and decent.

It's not the best looking phone I've ever seen, but I'd be willing to give the keyboard a shot.

It doesn't matter, the 5mp camera was such a blow to me that I crossed it off immediately. Screen is also still too small, will there ever be another qwerty to compete with the 4.3 inch photon q?
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium

I miss having a keyboard sometimes. If you get a huge enough screen (like the gs3) for example and use it in landscape mode to type its not all that bad! I think I'm over having a keyboard now. Thanks gs3!

Should be quad core

Just going to make the phone bulkier and heavier. Not for me

LOL, this was moved to Q&A? I guess technically the title of the thread IS a question, but that was rhetorical, as I have both of the possible answers already there. The point of the thread was more to discuss the possible processors ... oh well, mods will be mods. Gotta use them powers, right? And who can be bothered to actually read the post before moving it on a huge site like this?
Anyway, after having tried both the One S and the Galaxy S II, I can safely say I prefer a phone with a slightly smaller screen and a keyboard. It would've been nice if Samsung could've put a qHD screen in there at least, but I can make due with my usual 800x480. And just think- if the spec page is right, this thing will be as smooth as butter with the S4 only powering this low a resolution! Can't wait to test drive it <3
Oh, that reminds me- I'm planning to go into a T-Mobile store to take a look at one next week. If we don't get a definitive answer on the SOC by then, what app can I use to easily identify it? There ya go, now this thread belongs in Q&A Thanks, guys!

Well, nevermind! T-Mobile just confirmed that we have a S4 chip in this baby! Now to start requesting a forum for this phone and feigning surprised anger when it doesn't get one

Well does anyone know if it works properly in the European network? The frequencies working bode well! I'm trying a smartphone with keyboard. If I had not seen this phone fortuitously ... I would have bought a droid3. Droid4 is lte and here it does not work!
I hope it will be possible to buy it without a contract for import. I think that will not come in Europe. sigh

We benchmarked one today and it got 5100 in quadrant and on es taiji it got 56 fps. Its defiantly the S4. Its smooth as hell too and the keyboard is really easy to use.

Thanks for the info

w00t!
Picked this phone up today at a local T-Mobile store. I had to go to two stores to find one in stock.
Already rooted it.
[email protected]:~/relay$ sudo ./adb shell
[email protected]:/ $ su
[email protected]:/ #
Using Odin 3.07 I flashed the SGS3 CWM image. The LCD in recovery doesn't work, but adb certainly does! After that I had root, it was easy enough to adb push a su binary over, then copy it to the system partition.
The interface for the phone feels very gimmicky, I hope to put some kind of AOSP or CM on it.

Went to a T-Mobile mall store, they had five in stock for opening day, and I was the second buyer by 2pm. I agree with the slightly cheaper feel of the Galaxy S Relay 4G vs the G2, but the keyboard is a lot more spacious and I'm really digging the 5 rows and real 4-way arrow keys. And hardware-accessible curly braces!
With the stock out of the box device, I was not able to reproduce Cyvillian's simple "su" root from adb shell, but perhaps I need to first run a utility -- Cyvillian, can you volunteer how you got the su binary onto the device?
Nitpicks that I wouldn't return the device over:
1) A few apps have problems with widget size: Pure Messenger Widget, Weatherbug, Hanping Chinese Pro. They seem to get marked as being one row higher than they should, and the widget ends up floating in the middle of a larger-than-needed space with no vertical resizing ability. For example, a 1x1 widget ends up taking 1x2 space, as does a 4x2 widget takes up 4x3 space.
2) The power key is hard to access when the slider is open, and it barely protrudes enough to locate and press it by touch. It might be tough for a gloved hand to wake it back up without closing the slider (yes I have a pair with conductive glovetips).
3) There are some special text entry functions for the control keys (tested in GMail client), but it doesn't all make sense. Shift+left/right does texting highlighting a character at a time. Alt+left/right == home/end. Alt+up/down == pgup/pgdn. Shift+del == delete (not backspace). Alt+del and Shift+alt+del both erase the entire current line of text. That's all great stuff, and then you get to these weird behaviors. Shift+alt+up/dn both do the same thing, which is to select all text to the left of the cursor, and all previous lines to the top of the text box. Shift+alt+right will select all text on the current line only. But shift+alt+left will erase your entire current line of text, and replace it with a semicolon! Shift+enter == enter, alt+enter does nothing, and shift+alt+enter highlights everything from the cursor to the end of the current line.
4) The voice recognition keyboard button is poorly placed right next to the Enter key.
5) I agree with previous posters that the screen washes out about the same as the G2 in bright daylight, and that the slide action has to be applied in a perfectly horizontal motion to get a smooth open. G2 owners will need a little retraining, but keep in mind that the G2 is just as picky about how it gets opened...
XDA admins, when will this new phone get its own forum? Perhaps move this thread there?

How about spending a nickel on a sticker?
While its great that its been confirmed by Samsung/T-Mobile/Qualcomm, that the Relay has an S4 processor.
It would have been worth the $.05 in printing and labor to put a sticker on the brand new box covering S3 to correctly read S4.
They put a giant sticker on the box that says "$50.00 restocking fee". Why not fix one of the key features printed incorrectly?

Drat. Well thanks for the answer. :good:
Trying to decide to get this or the S4 with a bluetooth keyboard. Though the Relay 4G not having a mass storage option bothers me. Though I suppose you can take the SD card out and put it in the computer to add media that way.

Just got Galaxy Tab 7.7 - what do people want to know?

Wasn't really sure where to put this, since there isn't a forum for this device but thought people here might be interested?
First impressions are incredibly favourable.
It feels absolutely incredible in the hand with how slim it is, and the build materials are stellar - a refreshing change from Samsung's usual gear (every now and again they show that they really can make extremely classy looking and feeling devices, only wish they did that more often!). The screen is amazing, but I only realised how good it is when I had it next to my Transformer Prime - I thought the Prime's screen was stellar (best on a tablet yet I thought) but the 7.7 makes it look thoroughly average.
It's HC 3.2 with TW, and runs pretty well with just the occasional tiny micro-hitch here and there (the Prime's Tegra 3 is the only device I've had so far that could drive HC well enough to call 'buttery'). I noted with interest that there is no lag typing in the browser with a software keyboard, must be something Samsung have done to it because even the Prime had attrocious lag in HC in browser typing...
Need to get some stupid proprietary connectors tomorrow and can then do usual connectivity test and video...
Questions?
where'd you get it? is it GSM? does it have voice calling feature enabled? is the SAMOLED+ as good as its hyped up to be. How much did it cost?

Got it from Mobicity, mine isn't the 3G one, but it is available (and by the looks of it calling should be possible for those inclined!).
The SAMOLED+ is pretty stunning. Only a couple of days ago I was saying how the Transformer Prime has the best screen on a tablet but side-by-side the 7.7 blows it away (I think in Super-IPS mode the Prime will have a significant advantage for outdoors usability though).
Price was in the order of $750NZD from memory, as always with a device at release there is a premium to be paid.
very nice. yeah here's the link for 3g version described aas full voice calling ability..

I think Im all set with my 7.0+ until a nice quad core 7" with voice comes along with some beefed up specs.

Yep, if you're happy with that screen size I see no reason not to wait and pick up the ASUS one, amazing price point on that!
Yep.. the only thing they didn't do well is... price Almost twice as much as for the 7+ ?!? For a bumped screen and CPU clock? Come on Samsung, you can do better!
For that price I would expect it to be twice as fast and have at least HDMI out built it...

I got the 3G 7.7 a couple of days ago. I'm in the US and ordered it from negrielectronics.com for about US$650 plus shipping. They shipped it on Tuesday and I got it on Thursday - how convenient that we had a winter storm in Chicago and we got sent home from work, so I could be home to receive it :-D The model I have is the silver-backed one, and looks like it came from Hong Kong.
I took it to an AT&T store today to activate it on a month-to-month data plan. The staff were drooling over it! FYI for anyone else doing the same thing, they had to fake the IMEI in their system to get it to come up with the correct data plan, as their system did not recognise my Tab's IMEI, with it not being an AT&T device. They ended up using the IMEI of one of the HSDPA (*not* LTE) tablets they had in the store. Also, after it was all activated, I had to go into the APN settings and add a new APN titled "broadband" (no username/password) for data to actually work.
I love this Tab - the hardware is spectacular, and the screen is out of this world! My only dilemma is what to do about my Tab 7plus, which I've had for about a month. I'm still within return period for that, but there's something about the 7plus where, for all the tech whizzbangery of the 7.7, the 7plus just feels that little bit more personal.... It might just be that because the 7plus has the rougher back, it's a bit easier to hold one-handed. The 7.7 is a bit slippy.
About ready to order a 7.7 myself from negri...but wifi only. Just worried about U.S. Developed roms being compatible down the road when the US version launches. Does your IR blaster work?

Hello guys.
I also got a 7.7 3g a couple days ago and registered here to share some impressions and questions. Coming from a galaxy s plus and iPad, this is my first experience with honeycomb.
The hardware is great, as has been said many times. The tablet is gorgeous, a little heavier than it's svelte looks may suggest and feels solid, gets barely warm, a pleasure to hold.
The size is ideal for web browsing on the move, pages in landscape are generally easy to read without need of zooming and panning around. I also find amoled screens to strain eyes a little less than lcd thanks to the potentially darker colors.
Battery life is ok, not incredible. I got over 8 hours of random use with wifi and auto screen luminosity.
The software is a different story.
The preloaded Swype keyboard is bugged. On large documents, double tapping a word to select it causes the editor to scroll to the top and select a random block from the first lines. The frequency of this happening seems correlated with the dimension of the document - almost always on the 100Kb file I'm working with now, but you don't need to get nearly as large.
I verified the bug with three different editors, jota, 920, and the built in note app. It's less apparent on the latter as it only handles short notes, but still happens constantly on specific words.
It's especially annoying because the keyboard is otherwise excellent, imo more responsive to fast swipes and accurate in text prediction than the commercial SlideIT alternative, it even has cursor and edit keys accessible with a couple taps.
Other issues I imagine belong to honeycomb and well known here, but were a surprise to me, used to a fine gingerbread experience.
The interface suffers from significant hiccups. Apps can't write on the micro SD, thought as consolation Samsung's preloaded file manager allows to copy data to it.
Multitasking is unreliable for serious work as background apps get randomly closed and lose data. Registering to this forum I left Dolphin browser to open the verification email, went back to find all tabs gone. The same browser on a phone with half the ram rarely if ever had the issue.
App crashes have also been much more common, included one with the pre installed pen memo app, few with the settings manager, more with Dolphin.
I'll cut it before this becomes a rant on the OS. I'm interested in knowing if others can reproduce the keyboard problem, to make sure it's not my device to be defective.
Bottom line, ICS can't come soon enough and hopefully will address issues. This tablet needs and deserves better than the stuff it's running now.
Btw, I got it from Negri too, excellent service. There is no IR gun, it may be specific to other models or just have been removed from the final specs.
thank u for that in depth review!

I find swipe-type keyboards rather useless on tablets because of the size of the device, and even though this one is smaller I still never want to use them here either.
Try Swiftkey Tablet X or Thumb Keyboard, much better for me (I would think the majority of Android tablet owners are using one of these two keyboards).

Dolphin seems to have issues at the moment, I'm seeing reports like that across multiple device forums, try Opera Mobile instead?
I've not had any problems with app crashes myself.
Anyone tried playing YouTube videos in a browser in Galaxy Tab 7.7? I've tried stock browser and Dolphin Browser, but neither seems to be able to play YouTube videos. (I was able to do so when I was using Galaxy S II without the YouTube app.) The latest version of Adobe Flash Player is installed. Any ideas?

ASUS Padfone

http://techinstyle.tv/20122723801/post-types/news/the-asus-padfone-one-device-to-rule-them-all/
News on the planned release of the Asus Padfone. As a Transformer Prime owner, I am already drooling at the prospect of getting one of these in the future. One device that has all areas covered? Didn't think it would take this long!
Sorry if there are already posts about this, this is just the latest stuff I have seen.
Yes this look awesome and I believe the phones pretty good too.
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
I've been doing searches every week for any new info, so this is a pretty fun day for me. Unless I'm reading wrong, I see T-Mobile frequencies on this phone - so unless the price is off the charts I can easily see buying one off contract.
The stylus idea (a pen/headset combo) is an interesting idea, since an early question was what do you do when you get a call when the fone is in the tablet. Speakerphone? Bluetooth headset? Now you have this in a pinch. Only thing I haven't seen in video - does the pen slide into the tablet when not in use?
Specs are not quite as high as I originally hoped for, but I think good enough. Battery charging (tablet & keyboard charge the phone) is awesome! If it (as it looks) can use my original Transformer keyboard, even better.
About the only other expected issue will be weight. If it's at all close to the original Transformer weight (with phone in), I'll be fine.
Oh - video also looks like you can somehow have 2 home screen layouts. Would like to see a sample of a screen with some widgets on it on the fone, then docked to see what it looks like on the tablet.
..and a release date Saw April mentioned a few places.
The only thing i see wrong is that the screen (on the phone?) is not 720P and that if you lose or break your phone you are SOL
i really like the concept of this as well.
i wonder if it will be popular enough to get some awesome custom roms
I love this combo. I might have to drop the $$$ for this outright. I hope other manufacturers get on the bang wagon as well!
Sent from the best mobile device ever --Samsung Galaxy Note
I really like this concept and hopefully it won't be too expensive!
One concern I got though: Would it be very difficult to bring roms to this device, considering it would have to support both mobile and tablet mode?

If you look at the "Design" button on the Asus PadFone Landing Page (asus[dot]com/Mobile/PadFone/), they talk about the sleeve that sounds like it'll come with the PadFone that has a brand tag that doubles as a stylus holder (if you've used the Wacom Bamboo Tablet, I'd imagine it's something similar to the red tag on the side of that). The site also mentions that the tablet will buzz to let you know if you're leaving your stylus behind. That sound like such a great and simple solution to people always worrying about losing their stylus...es... styli... Never had to pluralize that before.
Thanks for the link - I hadn't checked the official site in quite a while. Would be funny to have a popup if you left the stylus behind with some sort of Microsoft-Paper-Clip like animation showing a sad stylus on the screen
Looking over the bands & trying to google answers, but looking at what they show:
3G :
WCDMA :
900/2100
2G :
EDGE/GPRS/GSM : 850/900/1800/1900
Doesn't that make it good for both AT&T and T-Mobile?
it says the display is 4.3
what about the softkeys? are they withIN the 4,3 or is it 4,3 + softkeys???
Wow, this seems sort of innovative but... I don't know.. sort of odd lol
Definitely looking forward to maybe seeing more of it though as I am definitely interested in this.
I like the concept. I'm just not so keen on carrying a tablet shell. Or about the Tegra 3.
Throw in a keyboard dock then it's more pleasing.
$1 gets you a reply
The different way using the tablet and phone. Cool
The Tegra 3 is a very good chip, we have to remember that optimisation is only going to get better for it and Nvidia aren't a company that does things by half. I'm pretty sure they know just how lucrative the mobile market is, and with Windows 8 coming want to get the ball rolling fast.
As for carrying around the tablet, I don't see it as much of a problem, you don't have to carry it all the time, I think that's the whole point with it tbh. Would love to see some prices though, and definitely see a some tests on the phone itself.
4.3" is my favourite size for a screen, but with soft buttons on top of that it might seem a tiny bit cramped, I'm just glad its not some note worthy 4.7" behemoth!

That's as may be, but the Padfone has a dual-core Snapdragon S4. Don't worry, in many use cases it is faster than Tegra 3 and we do not know about battery life of either with just a small smartphone battery.

That confuses me a bit - the Galaxy Nexus has 4.65" and soft keys - giving it around 4.3" usable area in most situations, and you call that a behemoth? But at 4.3" with probably around 4" usable area in most situations you call it cramped? What would be the ideal size then? Or do you just hate soft keys? I like them.
This combo has certainly peaked my interest.. looking to see it in the flesh firstly though

It will work on AT&T and T-Mobile on 2G.
For 3G, it doesn't have T-Mobile or AT&T's 3G bands. Therefore, you will be stuck to EDGE speeds.
It is only logical to present the european version of the device with european frequencies at a european show! For the US, there will surely be carrier specific variants, maybe a bit later.

i am really interested in this as well since i have no tablet. But since i wanna use the phone without the station as well, i really need some more tests showing just the power/useage of the phone itself.

Almost certainly, depending on price this could be a very popular device even if it is dual core.

You want a SINGLE device that is a tablet AND a phone?

I would like to get some opinion from you guys....
I am a startup developing a new kind of mobile device that combines a phone and tablet - putting a 7" screen on a less than 5" phone body. (It is not like the Galaxy Note, where the size is fixed.)
SO when you just want to make calls, check SMS and emails, just use the "phone mode" with a 4"+ screen.
When you want to surf web, watch videos/photos, transform it into a 7"-screen tablet.
Now my question is about the potential market for this device, as it seems that no company is creating a device like this, I am worried if there's no market for it.
a) For those of you carrying two devices (a phone and a tablet), are you feeling a bit inconvenient, annd would you like to have this device?
b) For those of you carrying only a phone, would you like to have a bigger screen, perhaps 7", while retaining the same portability?
c) Would you still buy a 10" tablet after you have this device? (assuming you already have a laptop)
Your help will be very much appreciated!
the first thing that came to mind upon reading this post is the asus padfone.
i do carry the 2 devices (S2 + TF101), and IMO it isn't really a big inconvenience, thus i might not be that interested. Unless it comes with a unique feature / selling point?
cheers.
if the tablet could make calls and i could pair a Bluetooth headset to it, i would get it. maybe it would stop me from texting and driving if it was 10 inch
I see no market for it. Some will buy it for what it is but not enough to make profit or even break even. Try focussing resources on let's say the body of the Droid Razr with an edge to edge screen, custom ROM that gets rid of the touch buttons of the bottom of the device so that can be more room for screen. I would buy something like that.
Or how about a smart-watch that can sync with any tablet to become a secondary display.

Didn't they already do this? And if I recall it kinda flopped... Not being negative, but I think people are used to carrying around a bunch of gadgets...

Thanks for your reply.
There are some aspects of Padfone that we don't think it will be a market success:
1. You still need to carry the 10" screen, and it is not as portable as a 4+" phone 2. When the phone is inside tablet, you'll need a headset to receive and make calls
Anyway our product is not in compete with padfone, although we have something in common - to combine devices from different categories. The key difference, besides the size, is that we emphasize on PORTABILITY; while they probably emphasize on versatile performance.
Our device is small and light and easily slip into pocket, yet comes with a beautiful 7" screen.
BTW, we think the combination of devices (our device + laptop/ultrabook) is more reasonable than (Padfone + laptop/ultrabook), because Padfone size is already very similar to laptop, and almost everyone already has a laptop.

Do you mean Sony's Tablet P?
However, since there is a bezel between the two screens, it cannot be seen as a one screen tablet when unfolded. In fact this is one of the main reason why it gets poor reviews and market reactions (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-03-21/what-was-sony-thinking-with-tablet-p-rich-jaroslovsky.html). The bezel is simply annoying.
Our startup have found a way to remove the bezel.
Yes people now used to carry around many gadgets, because currently we have no choice
I love the idea of the padfone...4 inch phone during the day, 10 inch phone when at home.
If you have something to offer please let me know, as of know i am seriously looking at the padfone to be my next phone.

Tablet s Phone
I really dont understand why Tablets dont incorporate phones, I own a Dell Streak Mini 5, (best phone Ive ever owned) also a sony tablet s.
Both brilliant devices but most of the pros are duplicated by one or the other,
Dell streak, android device, good general purpose but screen too small for word processing or watching vids, not to mention the small onscreen keybord.
Tablet s, android device, good for all things android but no phone.
I dont follow the logic that there would be no market for a tablet device with a phone, I carry a phone and I carry a tablet I would far rather only carry one, i.e. the tablet with a phone in it, I use a blue tooth earpiece for all my phone/music/audio books so its not as if Ive got it stuck to my ear all the time, in fact the phone never comes out unless i want to use an app.
So the answer for me is a resounding YES device of that nature.
This is a great idea. Today's smartphones have all this horsepower but what good is it if the tiny screens make it a chore to get anything done. I'm having difficulty imagining how one would go about incorporating an additional big screen on a phone, but if you can do a clean job at it, I believe it will be success. By clean, I mean the screens should be good quality either glass or matte, not some flimsy folding ****.

Yes we are not using folding screens.
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note exactly for this reason.
The screen is big enough for non-phone usage but small
enough to fit inside a pocket to carry around like you would
carry around a phone. It's already 5.4" so 7" is not that much
larger, you'd better have a real compelling reason for your
device in order to convince people who would otherwise
pick the Note.
Cool Idea
I don't know of your resource base, but have you seen the new translucent material they have demoed for new tablets. That would make your product something that would stand apart. They demoed the material at one of the electronic shows this year.

[Q] What Would you change about the Note 10.1?

Although this thread was not my idea, I thought it was a good one. So...here it is!
I'm very satisfied with the Note.
However, some day, it would be very cool if it could read my mind so that I don't have type, use the pen or speak. I might also like it if they could get rid of the display completely and project some type of 3D, holographic image. I would like it to do all of this, without wires; it would just connect to my mind wherever I am. All you have to do is just think about the Internet, e-mail, etc. and it's happening in front of you, in hi-res 3D.
What would you change about the Note 10.1?
1) Support for NTFS file formats
2) USB host mode

Great minds think alike
1) I would get rid of the panning box in Snotes. From what I can tell of the JB leak, it is still there in some cases and just as useless and annoying as ever.
2) I would make it so placing your palm on the screen doesn't cause the note to zoom in and out.
3) I would allow users to create and save their own templates.
4) I would add an option for the tablet to make little scratchy sounds when you write with the s-pen so it feels more like writing on paper.
5) I would provide better syncing options for Dropbox and Evernote.
6) I would provide a plugin for Evernote that would allow users to view .snb files.
Hardware-wise, of course I would love a true HD screen. Will have to wait for the next more powerful version for that.

Why not a Kevlar back. Could double as a shield
Most of us would have definitely loved a Exynos 5250..
I *feel* that we will never see any (flagship) device with Exynos 5250.
Let me explain before someone jumps the gun: It's nothing to do with engineering or technical stuffs. It's all related to marketing. A quad-core phone sounds so much better to general consumer. They are not bothered about A9 or A15 or Krait. I believe that Samsung *could* have launched Note 10.1/Note 2 with Exynos 5250, but did not do so because it would make SGS3 or Tegra3 devices look more powerful. So, when quad core Exynos 5 (Exynos 5450 maybe) is ready, only then we will see A15 SoC from Samsung in production devices.
I think a massive upgrade is in store for SGS4 next year..
Add option to save notes to sd-card of choice and better cloud storage support (dropbox)

I bought One of these. Just got it yesterday and it looks nice. Only installed the rear skin. It even still fits in my case. Seems to have given the back some more support and no more creeking.
:good:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008Z1LXTS/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
Sorry for off topic..
1. Change the position of the S-Pen to the side (similar to Series 5 hybrids) or top
2. Remove the gray strip that houses the camera/flash and make it a one-piece back cover. If the back was metal, that piece would have made sense to increase wireless and GPS strength, but it's not the case. It just creates more connection points for creaking (mine does), dust collection, etc.
3. Use a coating material on the back to have a better grip; something with a little texture (similar to SII back cover).
4. Obviously, S-notes improvements would be great and judging by the leaks, they are already coming.
5. Better multitasking with a wider choice of apps (apparently, mini apps with JB will answer this partly).
5. Remove the Samsung label from the front bezel, since the back cover already has it.
6. A higher resolution screen (this will be on Note 10.1 II, of course).

New slider coming out

This has been rumored for a while now, but this seems to be more concrete:
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015...android-phone-the-priv-will-launch-this-year/
BTW, this place has been completely dead for a few weeks now, and the last nightly is dated Sept 6. I tried several months back to start building my own ROM images, but before I got all the way there, someone else stepped up. Before you vanish completely, I might like to try this again, especially if someone can help me get started. I remember one file in particular that I don't know if I did correctly, perhaps it was "local.manifest", or something like that. If I can get running, with a bit of assistance, I can start putting up nightlies, if not nightly, at least at some interval.
I dunno, I kinda don't like the way the keyboard is. The keys seems too small. I'd like a keyboard in landscape mode.
Also, being by blackberry means rooting won't be as easy.
I couldn't agree more with you tpmjb about wanting a landscape keyboard phone, but i think this a big move for blackberry and warrants our support if we ever want to see another qwerty android device ever. The priv is getting allot of press and i think allot of people are excited about it. I also believe that the capacitative thingy for s6 was made because they heard about it ahead of time.

I changed my mind, I'm buying the Blackberry Priv. I figure it will be rooted before too long, and I'll probably get used to the keyboard. Also, this phone has severe problems with GPS, which I use to get around everywhere.
At $700, very few people will be purchasing a Priv. There will be no development community for the device.
There are plenty of people that want a keyboard, but that desire will not make hundreds of additional dollars magically materialize.
Furthermore, a $700 device should have 4GB and an 810 under the hood. The Priv forces compromise with 3 gigs and an 808.
QWERTY is dead.
No designated number row.... the main reason I chose the Relay over the Glide... well, that and lack of bluetooth phone calls in jb4.1+
I've been following the blackberry for a while and the rumors of them going android, really hoping somebody comes out with a horizontal slider.
Rumors say it has dual boot os. Android and bbos10

If you buy a Samsung Galaxy S6, you can take advantage of certain economies of massive scale. If you choose a Priv, the economies of scale aren't the same. And so you won't get the same value for money.
Still, the price of the Priv will fall over time.
Plus, I suspect that, six months or a year after its release, it'll be possible to buy a used or refurbished Priv for far less than $700. Then you can use your Priv with a deep-discount carrier — a carrier which doesn't offer handset subsidies, but which offers ultra-cheap plans.
Alternatively, if you're with a carrier which offers handset subsidies, you may be able to sign a long-term contract and buy a heavily-discounted Priv. You can then pay your carrier back over time.
Looks cool but its t9 not qwerty

I don't know why they even came out with Priv cause there was already Q5 & Q10...and on top of that most big shot Companies think people (Or everyone is a Text-Crazed Teenager) only use phones for texting and emails... ... ...those are pretty much the same and most simplistic things people will do with a phone besides Facebook... BLACKBERRY, MOTOROLA, SAMSUNG...I use my Relay at one point to replace my Computer (Dell D800 which start to run at 600MHz and 1GB RAM)...Stop with this Marketing Target business.
We the customer aren't Programmers or Teenagers, we don't need an iPhone or Phones that match with what we wear (Motorola)...we need Convenience...hence why you -blackberry- lost the market cause you keep pushing out small screen -but bigger than Nokia- phones that didn't really improve much (NO NUMROW, worst is the Sony Xperia sk17 (Mini Pro, 3") and sk16 (Pro, 3.7"), both have the exact same keyboard...3.7" and they didn't put Numrow or Okay Button). Had they had the size of a S3 or a 4" screen-phone-size with the Keyboard or not make the mistake like Symbian -Nokia E6, Touch with Buttons on Screen design for DPAD- they couldn't lose there market, but Priv is show us how Blackberry needs to let go or improve its model, not make more nostalgia (I don't know if that is right) while thinking its the big screen that everyone loves (If iPod had a Stylus instead of Touch, people would look at that like its a Color Palm Pilot...as where touch is better based how you control it).
Me when I saw Passport and Priv, I laughed my butt off, only Trenders will buy. I was even thinking Blackberry was going to actually come out with a Landscape Slider at one point and make a video with the Song "I want to know that, want to know that, will you Love me Again" playing...but snap Blackberry, Storm (My Twin Sister first Bought it, I wasn't even into Phones until 2012...born 1992 and got a Relay in 2015...made in 2012) was fail for me cause of putting 1 clicker in the Center of phone instead of 9-13 or 16-20 (Top/Mid/Bottom+Left/Center/Right to Between Center/Corner=4 or to Quarter of Size or to Fifth of Size or even put more at the bottom for the keyboard)...you guys should have built a fake plastic prototype of that feature (1 Hard Clicker to 13 Mid-Soft Clickers unless the 1 made it seem hard) cause had it not failed it would have been like iPhone 6 pressure screen...
Blackberry thinks that only 1 Phone is the Best, but Truly they Grew when you went from Pearl to Bold, etc and bold to Q5/10 (Had they made Torch like that), but Priv or Private -as I call it if it becomes Landscape Slider then Lieutenant and Colonel- is why Blackberry shouldn't design Hardware Form.
They are 100% correct about software cause I can Play PSP and Edit Word Docs on my Android and Hackers figured out a way to play all PS1 on PSP, but Sony's Devs couldn't (Embarrassing).
The only reason I have a PC is literally cause I'm doing online schooling and the website needs Internet Explorer or Google Chrome or else the interaction might slip up on a Mobile Device...other than that the only reason I bought a Vostro 14 is because it can play PS3 equivalent games (Skyrim, Saints Row, etc)...so I don't need a PC or the Lastest Android (GingerBread was my World and now JellyBean, in fact an LG Ahola has a keyboard with Prediction, where as my Relay doesn't...Relay is 4.1.2 and LG Ahola is 2.1 with 600Mhz CPU & 256MB RAM...it really depends on how you design it...even Motorola Defy Pro had it too...also Relay doesn't have a OKAY Button so if I highlight/select text (Shift+Left/Right) with Keyboard and touch to use Copy/Cut, the selected text disappears)
And funny thing today -Octo-core is 2xQuad-core CPU with 4 low & 4 high power- same thing I said ever since I got my first Phone -A Nokia 5000-6000series- I need something for note taking and I'm pretty sure that doesn't require a very fast Computer or computer at all (Cause now Tech is getting better)...if anyone is smart they stop with Big Screens and go to built-in Project-on-to-screen-like-a-flashlight or Project-to-a-screen-via-cable...cause I once saw a Phone design as Processor that goes into a Tablet...
There are so many things and ways of doing any thing, but Blackberry choose Portrait Slider...over Landscape and no alternative...when they've been using Landscape the Whole time (I know this contradicts before, but not increasing the Screen Size is what was Blackberry's Downfall)...In fact I just realize when has Portrait been used in an electronic besides Reading Text Material (Like on actual Paper) cause Televisions and Computers don't have Portrait Screens, I would use Word Doc and Landscape Shaped Window even if page is Portrait and the thing I see most people use big scr.een phones for is Videos...in Landscape...I read my Comics in Landscape (Cause Portrait is small).
Portrait is for the Quick and Easy or Simple Stuff (1-Hand)...Landscape is for 2 Handers and yet people who design for Portrait still put the things you need to Touch at the Top of the Screen...I only need Time at Top if I need to see it at the Lock Screen not when I am using the Phone.
Sorry for variety of errors of Grammar, Punctuation, Spelling, Sentence Structure, dotting my i's and crossing my t's (Joking on the last part). I didn't proofread much.
Best Keyboard was Motorola Droid 3 and LG C710 Aloha, but sadly there Hardware wasn't good.
