[Q] Will this dock work with the Atrix2? - Motorola Atrix 2

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-Char...Accessories&hash=item2321e71067#ht_1801wt_997
Just asking because I'd rather spend $14 on a dock than $50. It is just a piece of plastic to keep the phone from falling after all, also a charger. The official one looks nicer tho, and I'd have to modify it to work with the Atrix2.

90% its not.
and id give 80% that it cant be modified properly

[Q] wireless charging?

EVO 4G got it (check powermat.com)
why not our beloved desire
i searched wireless charging battery covers or cases but i found nothing...
so i had this idea...if i can't buy one, why not make one...
I was thinking something like that:
buy a case/battery cover with wireless charging technology
buy a case/bigger battery cover for desire
detach wireless receiver from the first case/cover
apply receiver to desire case/cover
but I'm a student and i cant afford to waste money so i don't want to buy 100$ worth of gear just to find it incompatible...
so if anyone has any experience please share...any input will be appreciated.
also...if anyone has a charging case for any phone... I'd appreciate a thorough description(size of different pieces)
Get a desire case from ebay for £1.50 and a iphone charger case from mymemory i think for £20 and give it a go mate. i would love to have one too!!!
it won't be incompatible.
The powermat receiver consists of a large coil (the huge flat thing in the cover), a small circuit board and a mini usb connector. So all it does is to transform and send the received energy to the 5V USB connector. This will be compatible with almost every smartphone.
Much more difficult is it to put the coil, circuit and connector in the Desire back cover. It's only possible if you buy a bigger battery cover, and then, with a some skill and time you should be able get it working.
But is all this a thicker Desire and an annoying USB connector sticking out of the rear of the Desire worth the trouble? I don't think so.
Also note, that it won't charge as fast as it does with the AC Adapter. So better get a nice looking docking station.
worth to give a try

Alternative charger needed

So, I just noticed that my original charger overheats so much it's basically a fire hazard (the thing smells a bit like melted plastic, and I kept it near bed...).
Quick pre-check question: Is that normal?
Nevertheless, I'm thinking about returning it to store, but that will leave me with no charger for up to 4 weeks (if the shop won't give me temporary replacement, which they probably won't, since they have no obligation to do so) and charger kit they sell on asus webpage is basically crazy-expensive (especially if you take it in mind, that it's their fault that I will be needed an extra charger).
So - how can I hack together cheap and quick alternative? Probably have few random chargers lying around the flat and can always borrow more junk from friends. So, how do I build my own? Or maybe there are already dirt cheap alternatives available somewhere?

[Q] how you will fight against not removable battery?

well i like it this phone htc one x its pretty nice for me i want it, perhaps the only thing start bother me its battery, i had an evo 3d and i usually have extra batteries, and works well, perhaps im not sure how you will beat this?
im thinking the extra chargers that works as usb battery but not sure wich one are the best and cheap xD
for example like this:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/portable-12000mah-rechargeable-power-battery-pack-white-119917
what do you think?
I wouldn't buy anything like that from dealextreme. There are plenty of portable chargers out there such as the powermonkey:
powermonkey
or some solar versions:
powermonkey explorer
Powermonkey Explorer
Monaco
Monaco Solar Charger
or if you are looking for more power for a really long time away from outlets:
New Trent - Ranges from 5000mAh to 11,000mAh
New Trents on amazon
Although it is very disappointing not to be able to just carry another fully charged battery that you can just change. I have been using an extra battery and desk charger since the early 2000's and now technology is leading towards phones without this feature and without removable SD cards. It seems like a step backwards. I managed to go on after the change from hardware keyboard to touchscreen as there was a benefit, but there just isn't enough reason to take away these features.
We all know where this whole idea of not allowing SD cards or removable batteries came from. Everyone is trying to be the iPhone. Next Google will force you to install Gtunes before you can use your phone.

looks well, perhaps i will check this brand on ebay, since amazon charge me a lot for delivery to my country :S
Not SD its not big deal for me but battery? that suck and if htc will make not removable they should be at least like razr maxx in battery mah
thanks a lot, and why you dont like DX?
The stuff from dealextreme is great if your are looking for cheap stuff that you don't mind if it breaks in a month. Also you may be waiting a loooooong time for shipping. For the cheap stuff it's great, but you DO NOT want to charge your phone with some cheap electronics from Hong Kong. It will mess up your battery and then you will really have a problem with keeping a charge. Don't want to have send in your expensive One X for repair because of a fried battery. Seen way to many phones ruined by cheap chargers. Spend the money on a good one.
I went back and fixed the links, but if you need to buy from somewhere else, that's fine. Powermonkey are sold in other countries and have adapters for different plugs if you travel. Then again I guess you could find an adapter for any of them.

Non-removable battery does have a very good reason, because if battery is removable, they must make the battery strong enough to be able to take some potential stress from being dropped, etc. Non-removable batteries can have thinner walls because the phone casing will protect the battery, and since it will not have to be removed very often it is possible to have the battery have more surface area on the phone to occupy.
We need cases like these. my friend gets about 2 days heavy use on his iPhone 4 with it. Unfortunately I've only seen cases with batteries for iPhones.

No kidding. I am so envious of him. That case also allows him to charge using a regular micro USB cable. I'm surprised at the lack of cases for most Android phones.

Having a charger in my coat pocket.
I really don't think it will be an issue to make it through a full day.
Have a feeling that portable chargers are going to get a lot more popular as the non-removable battery becomes more standard.
Have the New Trent 11,000 mAh model which can keep me going for a week away from a power outlet. I'm not usually far from an outlet as I have the home charger, car charger, and usb port from my computer at work, but always easy to carry around my portable charger as it isn't very big and fits in my pocket. The other ones are even smaller.
Not too fond of the idea of having to use a case that makes my thin sexy phone into a hulk for just a little more juice.

I hate the fact you can't remove the battery for a lot of reasons, one big one is I aways carried an extra battery because I did not buy a powerful phone to tweak it so it can't use all the power it came with.
They really need to put bigger batteries inside phones like motorola did , or make the back of phone from solar cells so it could recharge at daylight when flipped over

Wireless Charging - Current and future options

So, Phonearena has a few articles on how you can get wireless charging on the S4 now, but they involve a third-party wireless receiver (read: back cover) that looks like it adds a considerable amount of thickness to the phone -- far too much to fit into a case not designed for it. The receiver also won't be shipping for another 3-4 weeks. They've also released a charging pad (which doubles as a dock), but it looks goofy and just uses the Qi standard anyway, so there are plenty of options out there for that portion of the charging.
My question is: Are there other available receivers that actually work? eBay (and the like) displays a list of Galaxy S4 receivers (basically a little flat mat that sits on top of the battery and connects to the Qi hubs inside the back cover), but I'm extremely iffy on ordering any electronics from China unless they're proven...and all of the receivers listed are from mainland China. Has anyone given one of them a shot? And if so, are there any that work efficiently and don't cause problems?
I know, for the future, that Samsung has said they will have a wireless hub (mat) and receiver out sometime soon...but they said the same thing about the Galaxy S3, and it was never released. I trust the word of Samsung about as much as I trust the word of the IRS right now.
Anyone with experiences??
I feel the same way about china electronics, but I do have a Metrans brand one on the way I'm thinking sometime this week, I also go in on the indiegogo Monsterwatts receiver which probably wont show up till June.
so far all the info that I've read up in these forums about the receivers is that with just the Receiver the NFC does not work after installation, one guy used a note 2 NFC antenna to get it working. This sounds like too much fumbling to me and I prefer a sounder solution.
the official receiver covers are starting to show up in both white and black colors (black just recently) they cost 50 bucks and as you mentioned add considerable thickness. the cost doesn't bother me as much as the added thickness, which is what's holding me back from buying it.
The route I'm going to take for the time being is to try the receivers, if it works and does not add any bulge to the rear of the phone while disabling NFC, I could live with that.
maybe if they come out with a decent case for the official receiver cover I might get it.
I don't really use NFC anyway (who does), so that's an acceptable option for me. I have two people at work that I actually *would* use NFC stuff with, and we can just send files to each other without it anyway. Since Verizon has been so gracious as to make sure none of the devices on its network (outside of Nexus devices) can use Google Wallet, I really have no other reason to use NFC.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2296301
Need to read thru his post. Yes, while the receiver is from china, the NFC is functional.
I ordered one from the UK and got it shipped to the US. Am I worried its from china? Not really its 20-30 bucks. It would be the last time I lose that amount.
I will agree that eBay has a lot of knock offs but its the chance you take.
I would like to see a Samsung product out as well, but this will have to do until they put something out.
The main reason Im trying it is because Im tired of looking for a desktop charger that I can use the S4 with while its in a case.
Good luck to ya!
that dude's thread confuses me, he shows some youtube video about a Sview case and how it doesn't close flush with the receiver and says you need to press it hard be careful not to crack your screen... after that he lost me.
I just want a thin receiver that I can slip in the rear without the bulge and closing issues, even if NFC is a NO-GO that's fine with me haha.
I purchased this http://www.ebay.com/itm/121111622748?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
The item does work fine, does NFC work I don't know as I never use it but I will try and find out in the near future.
Item was received quickly and "worked" out of the box but the phone would slide off of the touchstone fairly quick, I had modded multiple phones to work with touchstones including my galaxy nexus so I gad these laying around http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=D401-N52&cat=168
some N52 magnets, and after checking polarities and moving everything around it now works great and holds the phone very securely.
Charge rate looks to be about 800mA peaking at 615mA incoming charge while the phone is on, Average draw while off the charger is about 200mA with same apps running so about 800mA I do not know what it should be giving out but this is more than enough to charge.
Thought people would like to hear about this and am willing to help if necessary.
nice but I am already invested in QI charging pads.
I think that's the trend anyway, I'm surprised there are still an ample supply of touchstone chargers and palm pre back plates still in the market.

They are being supplied by third parties lately. I try and get the originals only though..
I also had a Qi Nexus 4 but I missed the magnetic pull of the pre I had and the galaxy nexus I modded so I did this.
And I can get a proclip for my car and these make amazing car chargers, which is the main reason I purchased the touchstone version.

I wouldn't have created a thread if either of those had helped :good:
The first thread is fairly useful...but is very hard to understand. Also, that solution is pretty much only available overseas for some time. My thread is about using this functionality in North America...which is a totally different story. It's possible to order his solution, but it would cost in the neighborhood of like $75 for the receiver alone...much more than any other available solution.
This thread about looking at options and figuring out what they are.

I got the cheapest possible solution I could find on eBay and/or other Chinese sites like AliExpress.
The charger, including a 5V 1.5A wall charger cost me just under $30 ad I got the the Qi receiver for $23. Both prices including S&H from China. It took less than two weeks before I received those items. The reason why I choose this solution was because I wanted to keep the S4 as slim as possible, and also be able to use the flip cover. To get it cheap is also a bonus.
The charge rate is at 640ma, and the bulge the Qi receiver is making is not visible. I removed the thin plastic film from the backside of the receiver and shaved off as much plastic from the inside of the plastic cover as I dared. There was a small visible bulge before those small modification. After the modification one can still "sense" the Qi receiver, but it is not visible or make the phone wobbly when lying on its back.
The only downside beside the rather low charging rate from this kit is the poor quality of the wall charger. It gets very hot and the solution should have been replaced with a micro USB port on the charging pad to make it more versatile when it comes to replacing wall chargers. The pad is also made too glossy and has an annoying sound when the charging initiate and a continuos overly bright status light. I removed the internal speaker and also dimmed the light with some standard paper. The kit can be modified with other housing solutions, and I was thinking of maybe install it inside a small paper-book or something that is a more "standard" item on a nightstand I will just have to check how hot the charging plate and/or the S4 gets before I try out any mods like that.
My recommendation is; Get an iQ charging receiver on eBay. The one I got is OK, but I might have chosen the oddly shaped Qi receiver after the reviews I have read. There is also rumours about a v2 of this slimmest receiver available. Probably wise to sit on the fence a bit longer. I would also advise to stay clear of those cheapest T-100 kind of charging pads that you can find everywhere for $25-$40. I would rather get the Nokia DT-910 or the genuine Samsung charging pad (are there two different kinds of those; one with a micro USB input and another with a standard charging plug?) In Norway both those chargers costs around 40-45 British pounds
Here is a few pics of my kit:
The other threads do not claim that they are UK/EU based.
Lots of usefull information in both. Bubbles post was to verify that the NFC works with the receiver he got.
You should probably do some research on your own.
and BTW, the cost to have just the reciever is £16.99. which is 25$ US.

Your post is a dupe. Sorry. It just is.

what? the Samsung wireless dock for home is $50 alone, so how can a wireless car charger that is more functional be cheaper?
it's ok to spend $800 on the phone but $80 is too much for an accessory?
there are a bunch of wireless charging car docks out there, here are 2 that are under $50. they arent samsung branded, but should function close to the same.

That's not necessarily true. Especially not for car chargers.
You end up moreso paying for the mount itself than its wireless capabilities, and as many people who've bothered trying to use a cheap mount to hold their device will tell you, you don't want a cheaply built mount holding your device while you're driving down a crappy road or going over speed bumps.
Not to mention the differences in effort required to remove the device once it has been placed. Some mounts allow one-handed operations, some require two, and some are best left alone entirely unless you can stop to interact with them.

The price of the phone is irrelevant. The dock is overpriced and doesn't provide even a decent value, the home wireless charger is overpriced too. They could have sold them both for 39.99, made a profit and sold significantly more than they will at the 80-100 price point. Either way, it's nice that there are other options for sub $50!

I've had my fair share with cheap car mounts, probably gone through 4-5 of those cheap $20 mounts in the past 2 years. so i agree on that part which was kind of my point except i'm not very good with analogies.. i would not pay $50 for the samsung home wireless pad , but i will pay $80 for the samsung car dock, because while it doesn't apply to all things, sometimes you do get what you pay for. the samsung dock just looks a lot better than other options, even if it cost $20-30 more. the last mount i had wouldn't even stick properly to the windshield when the outside temps dropped below 30F..
I bought an airdock last month. Its on backorder. My hopes were it arrives around the s6 launch. And its the same price as the Samsung one

I seriously considered the hell out of that thing because I REALLY like the design. Also no wireless mount will be able to match it in terms of speed and ease of device placement and removal as well as positioning.
I just really couldn't bring myself to trust my $1000 device on a charger without some sort of "hands" to catch it on the off chance that the grip and magnet fail and allow the device to fall.
The Tylt car charger is the one to beat for that reason alone in my book. It's also a bit cheaper than the AirDock which is nice since it looks like I'm gonna end up buying 3 cases before I decide on one to keep haha.
After a lot of searching I decided to just get this dock. I will have mine wednesday from amazon for 85 bucks. In the past I used Ibolt for my S4 and absolutely loved it. Being that they don't have a specific dock for the S6 I just went with the samsung. Once I get my phone I will take pics and post a little review.

Ive had this dock for a while now i bought it for my galaxy note edge and i have to say its a good car holder holds tight and im yet to have it fall off the window... knock on wood haha. The charge on it like any other qi charger is slow but it holds well if you are using the maps app or streaming music.
However i just dont like things on my window so i ended up buying a vent mount from a company here in sydney that makes specific mounts to your car. The website is: www.holdmyphone.com.au
And i also bought a garmin gps ball mount for it. Its a little tight but once you get it on there and tighten the nut it doesnt move. Out of site out of mind.

I have used the iMagnet mount with my S4 for the past two years and have never had it just fall off. The magnet is incredibly powerful. The problem with the S6, however, is that I can't put the metal disc in my case without disrupting wireless charging.
