I have a nexus s i9020t with bootloader unlocked and stock JB unrooted.
I dropped the phone on the floor and now cannot boot, stuck on X screen animation and touch controls (soft buttons) are NOT lighting up.
I can boot in bootloader and recovery though and fastboot detects device.
But adb cannot detect it. As USB debugging was off.
How to mount sdcard to rescue data before I flash a new ROM.
Clockwork Recovrey
Well ...... I flashed clockwork touch recovery and mount SD card to backup data.
But after that I flashed stock rom and it still stuck at boot animation.
AND touch sensitive controls (soft buttons) are not lighting up.
:crying:
Anybody having a solution ??????
No TOUCH controls
UPDATE:
The CNA 3.5 ROM worked for me and now able to boot normally with my sdcard data still intact.
But still no capacitive touch controls. They dont even light up. The touchscreen though is working perfectly.
I've even checked the system/usr/keylayout/mtx224_ts_input.kl file and it also seems alright.
Now stuck with pressing power button to access nav bar of the ROM to perform any action.
Very painful indeed.Any suggestions?????
Sounds like a hardware fault. You'll need to send it back to Samsung for repair

Yes its indeed hardware fault. I think the PCB behind the touch keys is dead. Also handsfree not working.
Anyways, had to sacrifice a bit of real estate on the touch screen by turning on the nav bar.

Ok so, I was going to flash CM 9 v1 on my device, and when i was in clockworkmod recovery I noticed that the power button wasn't working at all.
I took out the battery and put it back and then it reboot itself and got stuck on the unlocked padlock screen.
Then i managed to boot it by pressing vol up and down at the same time and putting the battery in when plugged on the computer with the usb cable. This is the only way i can boot it. And after it runs a while it crashes and reboot into the unlocked padlock again. And this over and over.
Then I tried to go to recovery to reflash with the soft sensitive buttons and the fastboot screen doesn't do anything at all. If I press vol up or down to move around it gets stuck.
Got it to work a while and reverted back to stock rom with rom manager to see if fastboot worked again but nothing happened.
I need help to fix this.
I try to go to download mode but it doesn't work either. ADB works tho
Any suggestion??
(sorry fot the bad english)
Please help if you can, would really appreciate, dont know how to unbick my totally F$$$$### Nexus S Phone.
Even in recovery/fastboot mode on my Nexus S (Vol up+power), I cannot get my system to recognize the device....in fact, even in Windows, I am not able to get the system to recognize my device in Recovery mode/Fastboot mode....the only way it will recognize the device is if it is turned on the normal way, and hangs on the "Google unlocked icon" screen.
Some background info:
My power button recently stopped working...I thought it had to do with the fact that I updated NexusTools (was running a CyberGR rom...cant remember the name...had V4 Ultimate in it (downloaded from Rom Manager)).
So what I did was download/install (from the same developer) their hybrid ics rom....that did not brick it...but it also did not fix the power button...so after not liking the new rom, and the fact that it didnt fix my power button, I reflashed to the original rom I had installed (wiped everything, including doing a factory reset), and it just hung on "Google unlocked icon"
Now my phone does the following:
- First of all, the only way to power the device up is to plug it in (it automatically turns on and tries to boot without me pressing the non-functional power button)
- If I let it try to boot, it infinity hangs on the Google unlocked icon screen
- If I boot into recovery (by holding vol up button and plugging the phone into a power source), it hangs on the recovery screen...meaning the power button, as well as the volume buttons, as well as any buttons are non responsive.
- If I boot into recovery, the device doesnt even register on my system....
What am I doing wrong? What can I do to try and fix this?
I would truly appreciate if anyone reading this has some insights for me.
THANKS!!

yes, sounds like a dead power button(i have one myself).
try going back into your recovery, do a full data wipe(factory reset), then reflash the rom(and gapps). if still nothing, redownload the rom and try again. in your recovery, there is an usb option. use it to transfer your newly downloaded rom from your computer to phone.
Once I am in recovery mode it "freezes" though...as in not even the volume buttons work...they worked fine before, and even work to get into recovery mode...but once there they no longer work...nor does connecting the device in recovery mode to my laptop....so im kind of at a loss, as I cant even use Fastboot/adb to wipe/push anything on the Nexus S through my laptop

im guessing that your using cwm recovery?
give your phone a few smacks on the back near the power button, your phone thinks its being pressed in.
yes, it definitely thinks it is being pressed in...thats for sure...and makes sense...ill try that haha!
Yes latest CWM Recovery...5.0.2 or something like that...just updated that before phone died...
Weird...so i "smacked" the phone a bit...when I do it in recovery mode, it reboots the phone into recovery....so it definitely thinks its being pressed down constantly...but I have found no way to make it "un-pressed"...only briefly by smacking it...

in twrp recovery, theres an option to not use the power button to select(thats what im using), is there a similar option in the newer cwm recovery? tr\y pressing the soft buttons). also, see if sticking a fingernail in between the power button helps, to pull out the button a bit.
After continuingto smack it...as well as "pulling" on the power button, I am not able to use volume buttons and power buttons within recovery...flashing a new rom now...will let you know if that fixes it...otherwise I will try unbickable in ubuntu again and see if that fixes it thanks for the pro-tip of smacking it, haha!
Hi,
My Nexus S was working great and suddenly the power button stopped working, now when I try to flash anything via fastboot it freezes at the bootloader screen, the volume keys don't work just there.
I wanted to flash stock ICS bootloader, radio and ROM but I guess there's no way to flash without fastboot? adb works though.
Thanks for your help!

Is your power button failing by any chance? If the power button fails and stay in a clicked position, you will not be able to scroll.
No, the power button, physically, is perfect, just as it was before. it just doesn't 'function' anymore.

So it works or it doesn't work? That's what I mean by failing, when it stops working, you will not be able to scroll in fastboot mode because it's stuck as clicked in. In fastboot you cannot send 2 keystrokes at the same time, so as long as the power button is stuck you're out of luck.
Sometimes playing with the power button will make it unstuck, sometimes it will not. It's a very common problem with the Nexus S. Some people had decent luck opening up their Nexus and cleaning the power button while others sent their phone to repair.
No, it does not function. BUT, what I'm thinking is, if i the power button was CLICKED then the first option is "Restart Bootloader" and it would have been auto-selected resulting in a reboot-loop, but I do see the bootloader screen and it doesn't disappear until I remove the battery and restart.

That's not how it works though. It's constantly clicked, not as clicking only once the bootloader appears. I know it's strange, but it's really a well known issue.
If you remove the battery and put it back in, does your phone start automatically? That's also a sign the power button is stuck.
No, If I remove the battery and reinsert, it does NOT autostart unless its also connected to the PC via USB.

Alright. Does not necessarily mean the button isn't stuck though.
Do you have a custom recovery? If you use Clockworkmod or TWRP, you can flash nearly anything from there, rom, radio and so on as long as they're zipped in a way one of these recovery will understand.
If you are still able to boot your rom and it's rooted, but you don't have a custom recovery, you can flash one from within Android.
Oh, I thought you could only flash bootloader, radio and ROM via fastboot, atleast thats how I did so far. I download factory images and they come as .img files, is there anywhere I can find a flashable stock ICS .zip?
Yes, I can boot into the stock JB rom, and yes I can even access clockwork recovery.

You were doing it the good way though, fastboot is a very strong utility.
Here's one flashable with CWM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569509&highlight=rom
ONLY for GSM Nexus S. Not for 4G. This is really important.
One more way I was able to confirm that the phone indeed freezes on bootloader is that adb commands are accepted on the home screen or on CWM (./adb reboot bootloader for example), but neither adb nor fastboot works on the bootloader (error: device not found).
I opened the phone to clean the power button as you suggested, but its already quite clean, there's nothing to do there. However, I broke my sim tray in the process! :'(
Now, no power button and no network!

Ouch! That's not good at all. :|
Some people blast the button with compressed air or clean it with isopropyl alcohol.
I recently broke the screen and the touchscreen of my OPO and bought a new Glass+LCD+Digitizer+Middle Frame from Aliexpress. I just installed all the parts and afterwards my OPO booted happily into recovery. Touchscreen and Display etc are working fine. I wiped everything via TWRP 2.8.7.0 and wanted to do a clean install of CM12.1. But no matter what I do now, the phone always(!) boots directly into recovery mode. I can't even get into fastboot! I already tried all sorts of things.. any ideas?

If I power off my phone and plug it into the computer it immediately turns on. If I leave it plugged in and then shut it off via recovery, it reboots instead of turning off. Only if I unplug it from the computer, I can shut it off. So I'm afraid this link won't work for me

did you press and hold volume up when plugging it to the computer?
Yes I tried everything. It will only boot in recovery.
brah it will work. i was in same situation. it fixed my phone. try it.
I managed to do the whole "unbrick" process... now my recovery looks a little bit different but I still can't get into the bootloader!
When I boot up the phone, a split second before it enters recovery mode this picture shows up. The recovery is now stock CM recovery. ADB now doesn't work either..
TWRP has an option to reboot to bootloader. Did you try that as well?
Yes, I did. It booted into recovery...

No, it doesn't. However if go into the "install update via adb sideload" option in the recovery, the phone gets recognized as A0001, but the driver on my PC doesn't work. ADB doesn't work either in this case.

I did it with color OS, and now the phone always boots into ColorOS recovery I replaced the ColorOS recovery.img with the TWRP one, and now i got TWRP and ADB back. Phone gets recognized as SD Card now. Could it be that something on the hardware side of things broke my bootloader?
Please help

Well its possible, that one of the volume butten is pressed permanent(that u even don't take notice) due bad hardware and replacement. Therefore, the device would only boot into recovery, no matter what u try. Take a voltmeter and check the buttons.
BTW: stop using these dirty "toolbox" around here, they are pure cancer for your device
Hey, thanks for your reply. The volume down button being permanently pressed was actually the case! I found out myself and fixed it by soldering a new volume flex cable. Phone works fine again
Hello Guys,
My OnePlus One screen broke, it was in my drawer for more than 15 days without charge, i connected charger for 1 hour it just went from 1% to 5% but i didnt thought much about it as my priority was to change screen, i bought touch+lcd with frame and replaced it myself, but it wasnt powering up then i tried putting the backpanel on, it then booted up to the home screen, but the battery indicator wasnt moving up i powered off the phone after that it never turned on, i researched a bit and found out the after long period of time if you dont charge your phone might have problem charging and there was one suggestion which i followed and that was charge OPO using usb cable attached to PC, i left it for somewhat 7hours and it powered on i thought it might be the problem of ROM i flashed official H2OS (regret selecting this rom) using TWRP, it was a catastrophe my phone wont Enter Bootloader or Recovery, and wont even boot to system, it seemed i hardbricked my device, i used Oneplus one recovery tool 64GB to bring my device to life but after that no matter what i do my device wont enter to bootloader as the volume up button stopped working too : tried advance reboot, powerup+volumeup, opo toolkit.
Help me, i want to root my device and unlock bootloader once again.

Is your volume up button actually broken or does it still work and can you boot into something? If it still works (hold on, this idea might be a little crazy xD) you could try completely hard bricking (no joke! you cannot get into Qualcomm download mode with a booting device) and restoring it with the msm8974downloadtool from the oneplus one unbricking guide which should theoretically fix everything that is wrong.

Even If my volume button dosent work then why wont it enter bootloader via advance reboot it just restarts to system after selecting reboot to bootloader,so i should hard brick my device once again, P.S. i have done that twice before though.
