S3 and S4 version difference ? - HTC One S

So I was looking up on online stores which sell One S....and nowhere the specify what version it is, S3 or S4. So how do I know online that is the phone is S3 OR S4 before thinking to order it.
If I'm not mistaken, S3 has internal memory of 1.2 GB and S4 has 16GB ?
Thanx in advance

No they both have 16gb. And there is little difference in performance its not even noticeable.
The only thing you should keep in mind the s3 version doesn't have sense 4.1 yet but the s4 version does.

No above post is wrong there is a big difference between the two s3 is is using the older chip (s3 chip) and has been over clocked to 1.7 GHz it is a lot slower compared to the s4 version and quadrant scores vary a lot. Do not get the s3 version Its not worth the money you can get a better phone for the price. However if you can get the s4 version get it because the phone is amazing you can tell which one is which because s4 version has msm8960 processor and is 1.5ghz ... DO NOT GET THE S3 ONE.... There are not even many devs working on it and is a terrible phone

I had both phones and can say S3 performance is very bad compared to S4. Phone is much slower, UI stucks and is very laggy. Don't buy it.

I have S3 version. And tested S4 version too. Despite there is no noticable differantiation about their performance, dont buy S3 version. Because there will be always update issues about S3 version as we seen here, S3 versions are still not updated to 4.0.4 while S4 versions got.

Actually its you mate, you shouldn't look into numbers so much, going through the ui the galaxy nexus with jelly bean runs smother than most phones but yet quadrant is only like 2000..... Numbers mean **** its down to real world performance. If you go on the one x forum you will see a lot of people saying it has lag in areas the one s doesn't yet it has better quadrant. Numbers mean nothing its down to real world and you really cant make an argument for a device you have never used.

I'm getting confused now with varying opinions
and my original question is....how do i know the phone is S3 or S4. Sense 4 and 4.1 is one of them but i cant check it before i buy it even in a store....and the processor is different. Anymore ?

they releasing one update after other for S4 but for S3 units only two custom roms exists.

ICS stock Sensation is faster then Galaxy Nexus :D

Everything is stock , no overclocking or anything like that
Is that a surprise? isn't sensation better than Nexus? or am i wrong?
Benchmark tests don't always tell the truth.
Tired of those benchmark noobs.

first of all 2700 is low
second of all, that quadrant graph has not been updated since they added dual/quad core support
so thats galaxy nexus running 1 core test
check my screenshot for some sensation power, 1512mhz gets 3700 points
was with openSensation btw
My phone just sucks in benchmarks . Quadrant cant get over 3000 mark. Antutu usaly 6800+ on 1.5 ghz. But no lag in programs and in the interface, but seeing this score im thinking something is not ok with it.

I know the 2 devices have the same S3 chip set but Sammy definitely did better implementing it.. Though I tend to not trust quadrant I score over 3200 with no overclock on my SGS 2.. just saying .. not to mention my buddy has a GNex and that shiz is fast...

Its inflation. Quadrant is notorious for this. R/RW speed between the current devicesis pretty much the same, especially when they are all on custom ext4 partitions .. Hence why you can run 4 benchmarks and get 4 different scores .. notice the CPU and graphics numbers don't really flux to much...

you all realize that quadrant is only good for comparing devices with the same screen resolution, right?
The Gnex is running at a much higher resolution and becuase of that the scores will be lower in Quadrant.
Quadrant runs at the phones native resolution so the gnex has to work harder... I cant believe people still use this as their proof....

I'm happy with the Galaxy S3, even though the HTC One X+ will probably be packing a quad core. I don't think that there will be much of a difference in everyday use.

Why Idc about the one x+?
Coming from the one S I find the gs3 screen better. It Sucks in daylight but it doesn't bother me. Another thing is battery. They one+ is reportedly rocking the same size battery as the one x. Higher clocked processor with more cores = terrible battery life. Another reason is HTC in general. Coming from the one S I still don't think they even have full s off because Htc hasn't released the source code (last time I check people still couldn't make custom kernels) whereas Samsung released the gs3 instantly. Last reason is the sense ui. It's wack compared to touchwiz Imo.
I make enough money to get a new phone monthly if I wanted to. I won't be buying another Htc branded phone for a while. Not until they get better at supporting the dev community. I'm even still in my 14 day return period and I won't be returning it. Now release a gs3+ with an s4+ pro (quad) and you win me over lol.

Quick google of it says it scores a 58.5 in nena mark. Now scores are only a measuring stick, but my stock GS3 gets 59.9, so its not like its betting blown away. Im more than content with my GS3.

Not entirely true. Tegra 3 processors have a 5th core clocked @512mhz that runs all the background stuff if the cores aren't needed...thus giving it a better battery life. And, the GPU made by NVidia is awesome. Our Adreno 225 is just no match...sorry to say guys....but if that one x+ does come out with Tegra 3 and JB right or off the box...looks like I'll be making the jump. I'll still keep my s3 tho...like I do with all my phones.

Ehh, I prefer Samsung over HTC...so...not really. There's really no need for quad core phones. Some people don't even have Quad Core PCs. :/
I was an HTC loyalist before the Galaxy S3 came out and the One S wasn't gonna cut it for me so that's why I pulled the trigger on the Galaxy S3 but little did I know how much I would love this phone! Now I'm not gonna lie, when I found out about the One X+ I was mad, but if you think about it, the X+ will probably not have a removable battery nor a SD Card slot which are deal breakers for me. Sure Tegra 3+ will be amazing because I'm a gamer on the phones, but 2GB of RAM, Removable Battery and SD card slot is too hard to give up! I love my GS3

I'm super happy with my SGS3. If you need high benchmark scores to make you feel like cool kat, then you should probably go with the HTC, however, WE all know that benchmark scores don't mean squat when compared to real world usage. That being said, those of us whom have already grown up are quite contempt with our Samsung phones. Believe me, I used to be a die hard HTC fan, always getting the latest and greatest of all their devices. Although one can only take so much before they just give up all hope and walk away feeling betrayed. After all of the random reboots, frozen screen, crashes, loading screens, glitches and disappointments, I decided that enough is enough HTC has let me down for the last time. I am now a born again Samsung lover, I feel sorry for ever straying in the first place, however, I am more than thankful that the SGS3 has brought me back to where I belong.... Nah. As a TMO user who enjoys the International/World phones: Galaxy S4 news was a disappointment. Was really hoping Samsung would've stuck with just 1 phone especially for us who enjoy Samsung using Wolfson DACs in their phones instead of mediocre Qualcomm SoCs. Their desire to constantly do yearly releases with little benefits is wasteful. They should've just stuck to promoting the S3 alongside software updates until they really have a good product on their hand.

Is samsung device good to buy

I am in confusion because I want to buy a new phone and I have three choices galaxy S4, htc one and xperia z...
I know their specifications on the paper..but never used...
Gs4 looks best on paper...but it is running on exynos processor and exynos is not open source..and not devloper friendly and I have heard that samsung doesnt has build quality... I have seen that many people broke their s2 and s3 from falling..and what about heating effects..
But although It has great features...

The S3 has been my first Samsung device and I would definitely have no problems recommending Samsung to other people. As far as the S4 goes, my feelings are a little mixed. I very much like the specs on the phone, but I don't think I want to own another device which is subject to delayed updates (both manufacturer and carrier side). Having a Nexus 7, I think I'm going to stick with Nexus devices going forward.

The latest stock version!
No idea what is latest. And as far as I know from reports, it seems the Scandinavian xxuame2 is less laggy than others (that's my current one btw) and that some areas has a different version as it's latest version.

I compared i9505 and HTC One side by side, and One was smoother. I guess SGS4 doesnt have well optimized software yet.
Perhaps. Or the sw you have isn't the best version they've made so far. As mentioned, it differs from region to region it seems.
Can't say I feel a huge difference between my 920 snd my s4 in terms of smoothness. And 920 is pretty damn smooth.
The again it could be my fw contra yours that makes the difference.
So basically I think it's hard to compare one to s4 since there's several totally different "latest sw" on the market. Probably for both phones.

In the age old battle of HTC vs Samsung I can almost guarantee history will repeat. Samsung always comes out on top with better hardware, firmware, updates ect.. So yeah, maybe a stock ONE is slightly smoother than a stock S4 but give developers some time we'll see who takes prize.

Just sold my HTC One device and kept my 9500, I thought the HTC One was a pretty boring device...
I have done the comparisons myself for the sake of what to keep, and all of them reviews and comparisons and not real, what is real is what I like not what others show me. Lags and whatever do not bother if I have to give up 50% of the value add features I get with the S4.
Big regrets to spend the money on the HTC One....
Thanks

I personally think that samsung went with 4.2.2 which is buggy and slight laggy by itself. They also had less time to optimize the firmware. I have a lot of hopes that the s4 firmware will be optimized as much as the htc one in terms of performance.

Not sure what the bugs in 4.2.2 are, haven't encountered any so far that I've noticed.
Maybe I got lucky with having my fw or maybe I'm just oblivious. I don't know.

The multi tasking on the HTC One seemed faster because the SGS4 has the slow stock multi tasking animation which was introduced in 4.2.2.
Turn off all animations in developer options and see which is faster
Many are saying that the S4 IS HAVING SOFTWARE ISSUES BUT ALSO see that htc one is running 4.1.2 and maybe in 4.2.2 it will be more better!!
In my case here.. I asked my self what exactly do I want in a phone.. Build quality over functionality? Boom sound over 5inches screen? In the s4 I really got functionality while d one looks like a fast HTC X.. In terms of pixels, u can't differentiate cos anything over 400ppi is awesome. I hardly listen to music with the outer speakers so boom sound is not my thing. With the Samsung s4 I'm never bored. Games performance and bench marks kills the one. It's all about individual choice.

How do you feel the One is better than the s4 in functionality?

Most people that uses the one primary got it cos the built. I prefer the s4 cos of the functionality. The one came with a blinkfeed same thing as flip board. There is nothing new in the one period.

Wrong, its much better implemented then flipboard could ever be.
S4 for me:
5 vs 4.7 on the same candy bar size, while being lighter.
When I decided there was no One Google version.
Having handled both for a while the One lost its "better quality" moniker. I don't like the feeling of carrying a metallic object in my pocket. It is nice to look at, but felt like a foreign object even holding it. And by the way the One is not that "premium" of a construction. Polished aluminum is not as nice as polished stainless steel (as seen on expensive watches)
Bottom line if the one was last year's flagship, it would have been an excellent choice. Now the s4 is simply better.

Not even the same size. One is actually a little taller with a smaller screen.

Ah but the build quality of the One is far worse than the quality of the s4. Thats why I thought you meant the s4 was the build quality and the One the functionality.
Harder to fix when damaged.
More prone to disfigurement upon impact.
Apparently quite a few phones are received with gaps in the chassis.
