Problem installing apps from Google Play! - General Questions and Answers

I'm trying to download apps from Google Play without success. So, as an example, I try to download Skype. When I get the web page and Google Play, it has a pull down for what device to install it on. If I click on that arrow, it says "Samsung GT-N8013" (the new Galaxy Note 10.1, but it is greyed out so I can't select it. This means that the INSTALL button continues to stay greyed out and I can't install it. The same thing happens with all the apps I've tried so far. Anyone know why this could be happening? Thanks!

you're installing from the pc right? if yes, then i have the same problem, but after i download many apps, just close your browser and try again.

Actually no. I'm trying to install directly onto my tablet. Interestingly enough, it started working about 15 minutes ago. Google Play started recognizing my device and I was able to successfully install a bunch of apps. Very strange...

your tablet was acting like pc, so you have the same thing as i had, because on phone google play recognize device without you need to select the right phone, but i don't like my phone to be recognized, because then i can't install apps that i know are working, because they're "not" for my phone.

Have you tried clearing the cache and data for play?
sent from the thing I stab with my finger when I get two minutes

Does it say that the apps are incompatible with your device?

It did, but it mysteriously started working. I didnt do a darn thing to fix it!

[Q] Can't download/install any market apps

Today I received my new shiny Asus Transformer, everything works great except the Market itself...
I can't even download any apps, paid or free. When I try to download any apps, it start like trying to download, but there is no progress on notification bar and it just keep like that.
I reset the tablet several times, also, cleaned the cache of the Market and Framework services, shutdown (restart) several times... nothing
Is this happening to anyone? I searched this forum and performed the steps above, but still nothing...
Please, help
Have you look into My App area, you will see, not installed list of apps. I get that as well...I am not sure if it's a bug or intended. Sometimes, it would stay at download forever. I got to go out and go back into the Market and redo it all over.

Yes, sometimes the apps I am trying to download don't even appear there and sometimes it does. When it says "Installing" sometimes, 1 hour can pass and still nothing... no progress on the notification bar.
In fact, I can't install anything from there, not even using the website version, https://market.android.com/
I had/have this same issue I think its a bug in the market app. I've just flashed the new firmware and it seems to work OK now.
My solution was to press back over and over until I exited the market fully, then start a new instance of it. Works on and off.
Ill let you know if the update solves this issue.

Thanks for the info.
I tried that, still no luck I need to know if this is a widespread issue or not.
I have the EVO and tried to download apps and install them now without any problems.
Also, I have discovered that I can't log in into GTalk either, but I can browse without any issues.

Sounds like an odd issue with your account. Try to check settings, accounts an sync .. and see if anything is amiss. If not, then try to create a new gmail account, and use that to login to market/gtalk. See if there is some confusion as to your phone account and your tablet. Do you have settings>Privacy ticked off for google to back up your apps and sync them? Try disabling if so.
Had same issue and went into settings and had to delete my gmail account and then add it again, worked fine after that!
Thanks for the replies.
1. The Backup and Restore settings are turned off.
2. I have created another Google account and removed the original, still the same problem.
3. The EVO is currently off just in case.
After doing some research, I've discovered that Gtalk have something to do with the Market, if Gtalk can sign in, then the market should works for downloads. If not, then there is a problem.
ok... wtf
After adding a new Google account while replacing the original one, the issue still happened.
Then, I decided for a million times, to make another Factory Reset with my original account again... now GTalk logon and the Market download/install apps
I will keep this thread in mind and report if anything weird happens again.
Android Market hates me. I didn't really want to have to create another gmail account but I have tried every other trick posted and still can't get apps to download.
I had this same problem with my Samsung Fascinate. 3G would download fine but I couldn't get WiFi to work until just recently when I updated the radio that came with the OTA Froyo update plus a new custom rom/kernel. I'm not sure which piece all of the sudden made things work but I was certainly happy. What's so frustrating is that I set up a Droid on the same home network with absolutely no problems from day one.
Amazon App store works fine but many of the apps I want aren't available there. Grrr.

This occurred to me after rooting the TF. I was able to correct it by going into applications and force stop and clearing data on both Market and both google framework services. Then try to restart market, if you don't get a error go back to applications and do it again. Once you get the error reboot, when you try market after the reboot it will ask you to accept terms again and then all is was right again with the world.
I have the same problem. How I can do a Factory Reset?
It was working ok but now it gives an error with the server. Eventually it will download the aplication after trying several times but will fail in the instalation. I have deleted and created again my account with no results.
Welcome to my problem. Another member told me the issue lies with our google accounts and how it syncs up with the market.
I have tried the other methods deleting cache / signing in and out etc. to no avail.
Only solution is to factory reset. Sad thing is it has happened to me 3x in the past 5 days.
I only hope for a solution to this soon.
3 times, that is scary.
Something has surprised me when I upgraded my phone to the new Galaxy S 2 from HTC HD 2 running an Android rom. When I introduced the google account it automaticaly pointed me all the aplications that I had installed in the old phone (free or paid) and give me an easy option to install all quickly. They were identified as my aplications, even they were not installed.
Is this funtion present here? It will remember what aplications I had installed in the transformer before or I will need to look for all of them again?
solution to download apps
press on apps on the home screen. then press on market. this will get you started click on sign in at top right of screen. it should automatically do a sign in with your google account. then go from there

[Q] HELP! Atrix 2 cannot click [INSTALL] for APK files

I just bought the Atrix 2 few days back and I notice that after the phone has been started for a while, and I restart my phone, the APK cannot be installed anymore.
Model: MB865
Android Version: 2.3.6
Kernal Version: 2.6.35.7-g313792c
Build Number: 5.5.1-EDEM-27
Details below:
1st Attempt:
- Bought the phone and transferred my SD card with my previous phone apps backup in APK.
- Did the initial phone setup by tagging the phone to my google account, went into Google Market to install a battery status apps, surf some web, etc.
- Restart the phone and when the phone turns back on, tried select the APK file, enable the "Allow install of non-Market applications" and continue with the apk installation. It came out the permission page with [INSTALL] & [CANCEL] button at the bottom. Tried touching the [INSTALL] but no response. It's like a dummy button. Then [CANCEL] will exit the permission page.
- Tried other apps in APK, same issue.
- Called Motorola support line and she asked me to Factory Data Reset my phone from the Privacy in the Setting page.
2nd Attempt:
- Initial setup my phone as per usual by tagging the phone to my google account. Once the phone started, immediately, I use the file manager to browse my APK backup folder and install some apps with no issue. The [INSTALL] button can be clicked and apps installed properly.
- Use the phone for a while, restart the phone and turn back on... tried install other APK again... same issue happened, the [INSTALL] button became a dummy button again.
- Factory Data Reset my phone from the Privacy in the Setting page again to try again.
3rd Attempt:
- Suspect that it may be automatically downloading some apps from the google store, so this time round, I just turn on the phone without tagging to any of my account, not even my google account so that the phone should not automatically download apps from the market that may clashed with the system.
- Use the phone to do basic web surfing for a while, and then restart the phone.
- Phone restarted and try to install APK files, same issue happened again.
With the above tries, I suspected the issue (APK cannot be installed because [INSTALL] button cannot be clicked) is not due to any apps conflicting the system, but maybe some hidden updates download from google unknowingly that is incompatible to the Android system.
Further findings shows that my bro has a Atrix 1 and I asked him to restart his phone to try install some APKs, same issue with [INSTALL] button.
My 2 other friends has a LG Optimus One and LG Optimus Black, both running Android as well. I asked both to restart their phone and try to install some APKs, and everything works fine.
I seriously think that there are some conflict with the some google "hidden" update, maybe Play Google?, that disabled the [INSTALL] button as initially when phone factory resetted is ok. If this is the case, no point to go down Motorola repair centre as they cannot do anything as well until new updates from Motorola available.
Will anyone with Atrix 1 or Atrix 2 phones kindly check if you have such issue? Restart your phone 1st if the initial attempt is working as the update may activate only after the phone is restarted, such as the icon changing Google Market to Play Google, that disable the [INSTALL] button when installing APKs.
Let me know if you have a non-rooted solution, ok? Do not intend to root my phone yet. Thank you.
Have you install screen adjuster??

Hmmm. I think this may be somethign to do with your service area, not the devices. My phone has the Google Play update and installs APK files just fine. I've done multiple reboots to try and replicate your issue and can't. But the fact that you say it happens on your Atrix 2 AND your brother's Atrix 4G makes me think something in your area is giving you a corrupted update. Don't know if that could be the case for sure, as I'm not an AT&T or Motorola employee, but for two different devices with two different chipsets to have the same issue, I'd think it's a corrupt download.
Its happened to my A2 as well. I got frustrated w/ it so i rebooted into recovery, wiped data & cache. Problem solved for me.

I had the same problem on my Atrix 2.
The following appears to have fixed it for me:
1) go to Settings->Applications
2) uncheck "Unknown Sources"
3) try to install (you'll get an error)
4) go back and recheck "Unknown Sources"
5) try to install again
The "Install" button now works, and keeps working.
this works

I have troubled with the same priblem and after read this post i tried to close screen adjuster and it works .. thank you
Screen Filter app also generates this problem
Thanks for this thread. I found screen filter also has the same effect. So, before installing any apk, just close screen filter if active and then install. Works without any problem.
If you have screen filter installed then plz disabled it and try to install.

Same problem with At&T Note 2
I've been reading all the "solutions" to the dead INSTALL button and I don't have any screen filters installed. I did get the "Unknown Source" installation to work once after I froze the Google Account Manager app. Unfortunately it only worked once. I've done all the "basics" over and over.

Go to settings apps then look under the all apps tab and find google play, click on that, then force stop, clear data, and remove updates.
Next go back and launch the google play store again and link it to your goolge account when it asks you to. Also of course agree to the terms and let google play update again. Now try and see if that fixes this a little more permanently for you. I had this issue back in GB when the google play store updated to version 3 and changed to the google play store from google apps and this worked for me.
Thank you jimbridgman. That didn't seem to be a permanent solution, although I may have done something wrong. This is what worked for me:
It appears that many apps have something to do with screen "filtering" or sensitivity that can cause this problem. After going through many of my apps and "freezing" them I came upon Gesture Launcher. Freezing that has solved my problem, at least for now. My fingers are crossed. I'm posting this to help others if they may have the same problem.
Once again thanks for helping and if my problem reoccurs I'll try your solution again.
LOL it happened to me today. the culprit is screen adjuster app.! Disabled it and I could install!

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Y Google Play Issue

I've had a good hunt around both the xda forums, and the internet, hoping I could solve this problem without troubling anyone else, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Y running 2.3.6 and rooted. I was recently having some issues where I'd get an alert saying "Insufficient Internal Memory", I cleared just about every app out, and was still getting the error, so, in a last ditch effort, did a factory reset. The reset went fine, but for one problem.
The Google Marketplace app wouldn't update to Google Play, and I was unable to download or update apps. After trying all the usual solutions, such as clearing the cache and simply waiting, I got a friend to upload the .apk for their Play Store, which was the latest version and running without an issue. I then installed this .apk, rebooted, and found that the app had technically installed, but the icon was completely blank, the only evidence of it was in Settings>Apps. After three reboots it eventually showed an icon for the Play Store in my app drawer. However when tap it, it starts to open, freezes, quickly flashes an error message, and then closes. The error message isn't on screen long enough to read, but I think I can get the words "Sorry!" and "Procedure".
I'm at a loss as to what to do now. Anyone out there who knows the ins and outs of Android better than me, have any idea?
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas?
What do u really need update to Google play from market?
I always uninstall the update of market to play,. Market is better...
So let mobile on its own upload the martket, dont do manually if u need play...
Then it may be solved,i think...

[Completed] [Q] Update ruined my phone!! Please help?!

I have a Nexus 4. After the most recent update, everything has stopped working: I get texts over 5 days late, Google play won't load or let me log in, many of my apps became useless because they stopped working (ex. Tumblr app); my pictures won't back up to my Google account, and many more problems. I wanted to try a factory reset but the computers won't register my phone (I've tried 2 different computers, 3 different cords). I don't want to lose all of my pictures/videos/contacts. I tried downloading Airdroid but my phone refuses to download it (Google play doesn't work, and it simply says "Installing" when I download from Chrome or with ES File Downloader, but it never actually installs). I'm getting desperate now, can someone please help?? :crying::crying:

[Q] Google Play store won't download anything on data

I know this has been asked before, but nothing seems to work. Google play simply refuses to download or update any apps, it says downloading, and the downloading progress bar shows in the notification panel, but the percentage does not come up and no matter how long I wait, it doesn't finish. This is on my mother's Samsung Galaxy s3 Mini, 4.2.2, and unfortunately not rooted (unfortunately meaning I feel the problem would probably be easier to fix with root, haha). It works fine on WiFi, I have even tried to "jump start" it by starting an app download with WiFi, then quickly switching to mobile. I've cleared play data, cache, uninstalled updates, stopped/cleared data for download manager, same with play services + uninstalled updates, forced my current versions of google play and play services onto her phone to ensure she would have the latest version, removed and readded her Google account, tried other apps, restarted the phone multiple times during the uninstallations and clearing data, toggled airplane mode, booted the phone without data after wiping Play data and cache and starting it FIRST with WiFi, then switching to data, hit update/install with airplane mode on to force error 923 (mainly to see if errors could still be triggered, or if the downloading bar would continue to attempt downloading), tried a different Google account, force killed download manager while a download was pending for Google play + relaunched Google play.... I've tried everything I can think of except for a factory reset, which is ridiculously stupid if that's the only solution.
Edit: Things got interesting. As a process of elimination, I used Chrome to download a random image online. Same as Google Play, the downloading bar and arrow showed up, but will not download. Seems the problem lies deeper within the download manager.... on a nonrooted android, what are my choices to fix this?
Edit (again): Finally got download manager to download things online, but google play store seems to "lock it up", meaning when I try to install on the play store, the installation never actually finishes, and afterwards download manager will no longer work online for random images and files. It's as if something is stuck.
