Note 5.3' image editing software - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Is there a possibility to get the basic image editing software that the standard Note 5.3' has? If I want to take a screenshot and use the SPen to circle or highlight something, I have to do it through Photoshop which is annoying, inaccurate and time consuming.

There are two ways you can get a similar editing tool on the 10.1:
1) Long press on the screen that you want to capture with the button pressed on the S-pen (I found this way also catches the little cursor if enabled which I don't like)
2) Long press on the screen capture icon for the screen you want to capture. (My prefered method)
Both of the above methods will load an image editer/snipper which has a pen tool as well as an eraser tool and you will not need to use photoshop.
Another little trick is if the crop tool is the rectangular one, you can select the lasso tool by long pressing the rectangle tool and then select the lasso tool to highlight a specific area that you want to capture. It would have been nice if this was an app that could be loaded from the app menu.

Odd I have the same functionality on my Note 10.1 as i have on the 5.3, that is if I take a screenshot with the pen it will open up the screenshot in edit mode.

Wow cool, I was not aware of the long press the screen capture icon... Thanks for the tip...

For me it opens it up in the gallery, that's why I'm asking...

That is strange, did you try both methods I described in my previous post? If you don't long press and capture using the button at the bottom, it goes to a choice of either gallery or Photoshop. The pen method should take you straight to the editor and not gallery/Photosop unless you have something or a setting wrong somewhere.

True, it is working. Thanks a lot.

Changing the lock screen to a camera image.

I have searched and followed the directions I have found, but I don't have the "done" option after cropping a picture...only a save option. Am I missing something? Can my personal images even be used?
By directions, do you mean
1. Long pressing on blank space on homescreen (stock touchwiz launcher) and selecting Lock Screen?
2. Going to settings>wallpaper>lockscreen?
When you do either one of them, an option should popup to take a photo from the gallery or another application. If you select gallery, you should be presented with most, if not all, the photos on your phone. If you select it, you may be asked to crop it and then in the upper rightmost of the screen, "Done" should be written. Hit that.
Are you following different instructions (not word for word)?
I get all the way to the cropping part and then the only option I have is to save the image.

right, so hit save at that point
When I click save, it sends me back to my home screen! lol
I just tried with Quickpic and when I save the image using that app, it flashes and shows the same screen I had right before I clicked save. It does produce another image, but isn't saved as a lockscreen wallpaper even though that is what I selected.
Has anyone else had this problem or is this simply an error on my part somewhere?
Settings > Wallpaper > Lockscreen
After you hit lockscreen, choose Gallery, then choose whatever pic you wish to use. Crop the picture how you wish, then hit 'Save' in the upper-right and corner. *Hitting save DOES NOT save the picture in gallery, it only saves the picture you crop as your wallpaper!*
Only mine isn't saving it as a lockscreen wallpaper
Let me try is as a homescreen wallpaper....even though I want it as a lockscreen one.
Of course it worked as a homescreen!
BUT....I want it on my lockscreen. lol

....I did it that way first.
Thank you all for trying to help. If it worked for everyone else, I must have a setting different somewhere. Or extreme user error. lol
I finally just uninstalled QuickPic and it worked. It seems QuickPic was taking over for the Gallery.
You must have selected Quick Pic as the default app somewhere along the way.

Flash card app request.

I am looking for a flash card app with the following:
* Ability to write freehand with the stylus like you would with S Note.
* Can organize cards into different topics.
Any recommendations?

If you can find the app for flashcards there is a keyboard called '7Notes with mazec' that will let you write freehand.
The Samsung virtual keyboard has a handwriting to text option built in which has worked in every app I have tried so far. The toggle key is to the left of the spacebar. Long press it and you will see a T with a pen option. That brings up the area to write in with the pen or your finger.

The problem is that I need to draw math formulas and diagrams on the cards. They are too complex for using alpha syntax for math so I'd really like to have something that I can just write on.

I took a look at this and its input into the application is still text. It allows you to draw, but the input was still text in the Ankidroid flash card app I tried.
Can't you use a good note app that has folders and multiple pages? What is it exactly that you are looking for in a flash card app, besides writing?

I may be naive, but did you look at these?
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=flash+cards
Will none serve your purpose?
No. None of them allow directly writing on them with a stylus keeping the image.

Now I'm really curious. Can you tell me a couple you tried?
---------- Post added at 12:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:34 PM ----------
First one I tried I was able to write in, front and back, and tested a simple formula. Worked fine. When using 7 Note, if you see a typing keyboard just switch to any other one and then switch back to 7 Note. It will usually then show you the writing space.

I've been searching for months and have only found two:
Flux Cards: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.leowandersleb.fluxcards&hl=en
Can't control stroke width or erase anything, but still quite usable. Remember to export your cards in between ROM flashes or you'll lose everything.
The other is Memory Story Flashcards S Pen: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bwr.memorystory&hl=en
It's a paid app, so I haven't taken the plunge to try it out, but it certainly seems like it beats Flux Cards on the drawing side of things, though I can't tell if the spaced repetition algorithm is as good.
I've actually got the memory story app. It's very VERY good, but unfortunately, it isn't set up for multi-window. So if you write the cards of full screen, you're good. If you write 'em in multi, your cards will not scale correctly. The developer doesn't have multi window on his note 1, so he doesn't plan on adding multi capabilities to it. Mer...

I use flashcard deluxe and it is pretty good.. It does not have spen drawing though. You can draw and add as images to the flash card as well

[Q] Custome homescreen for touch wiz ?

Ok so i did a little research and nothing so far. I have a picture that i want to make my homescreen. I want to make it not have scroll but every app i found just blows it up and just centers the picture. i saw something about modded touch wiz but im hoping to find a easier way because honestly im on the run. I just want the image to be cropped to fit with no scroll.
Any help?
Try this app. It caused no excessive battery drain and it made it easy to set walls the way I wanted to. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cellophanesoftware.superwalllite
Also, you could download picspeed wallpaper app. It offers the ability to set a wall through the gallery using it and you can choose portrait mode. See screenshots. In the first pic, you'll select the 2nd option from the bottom. In the 2nd pic, you'll select the highlighted box on the left under the pic for portrait mode.
Good luck, let me know of any questions.

Picspeed is this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.srsdev.wallpapers
The first one is a live wallpaper app, it will only show up if you select live wallpaper option. This is the reason I mentioned the piece about the minimal battery drain when using it. Go with Picspeed and see if it works for you first though. You may also have to use a 3rd party gallery to select the photo before setting it as your wall. I use quickpic cause it's fast. I just open quickpic, navigate to the photo I want, press menu soft key, select set as, select the option shown above in the pic, and boom! Works every time.

Mini window mode???

Hello is there a way that allows me to made an app launch in smaller window? For example, if I launch the browser, it launches in full screen. However, I would like to make it in a smaller window, just like on my PC. Please note that I am not taking about the Multi-window mode on Touchwiz that makes the window stick on a side of the screen. I am talking about a centered window. Thanks for suggestions.

As for browser, doesn't the Note II have a popup browser that can be centered on the screen in a mini window?
Smilarly, you can try using "Floating Apps" on the Playstore also.
For getting other apps in miniwindow mode, you could try ParanoidAndroid's Halo feature. For that, you would need to flash a PA ROM. :good:

[Q] Pictures and the Pen?

I'm in the construction industry. It would be quite handy if I could take a picture of something and then write down notes and/or dimensions on the picture and then email the amended picture.
I know you can take a pic and that you can use the pen for all sorts of neat stuff. But nowhere have I seen an example of writing on a picture just taken. Is this possible?
Thanks

Yeah, you have to open up the picture in an editor like photoshop or any one with the ability to write. When you're done save it and email it

Maybe there's also a bundled app on your device

What device do you have? My LG-L9 (LGP769BK) phone comes with quick memo where I snap a screenshot and it automatically brings up a pen and other accessories.
Take a look at Evernote with Skitch. I'm pretty sure it'll do exactly what you're looking for.

Open snote then at the top right click the plus button to open a template for this example click the first template called "note". once the template is open' click the plus to the left of the Mic, not the plus at the top. Their is the option to take picture, take your picture, select the pin you want to use at the top left area, write on the pics and when you are done select setting at at the top right (three bars) and select export, then select. jpg and save. Now go to the save folder, it is saved on SD card in a folder called s note export. Now just email. Sounds long but its just click click click. And it is built in, no 3rd party app needed.
