This question seemed to come up a few times in the past, not sure if it was properly answered.
Got a Sensation 4G from TMobile Store in NYC last week. Brought it to the UK, and it is able to connect to the 3G network here no problem.
It did not even need un locking to connect to TMobile UK Network.
Funnily Enough, it never says 3G / H, it always says 4G on notification bar.

The "3G" and "H" symbol doesn't exist on the US Sensation. "4G" is the same as "H", HSPDA.
So the phone is unlocked? Seems odd - Anybody else with a US S4G try a different SIM?

Could you clarify that?
You don't unlock a phone by using a different SIM. You have to unlock the phone by entering an unlock code. Only after it's unlocked can it use a different brand SIM.

What I was trying to establish is whether the phone came unlocked or if you had to unlock it. You've answered. Thanks.
I got an unlock code from a web site, and now my sensation works in spain with Happy Movil.

I'm in Germany with an unlocked MT4G and, while the calling feature works, the data/internet package does not. Per the carrier here (Tchibo/O2), they use the 1800 band which to my knowledge IS supported by the device.
Any ideas of why this isn't working would be appreciated ... of course more appreciated would be any ideas for a solution.
Cheers,

1800 is a GSM frequency, not 3G. 2100 is used for 3G in Germany.
http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
http://www.gsmarena.com/network-bands.php3?sCountry=GERMANY
According to the specs the MT4G does support the 1800 GSM band, although it's not used in the US. In theory it should work at 2G speed.
If it were me I'd be asking them why I'm not getting 3G on the 2100 frequency, but that may be a coverage issue.
Hey guys.
I am planning to buy a T Mob HTC Sensation since My Desire doesn't support 3G here in US.
Do you think T mob HTC Sensation is fully capable to root like Desire?
We all know that Desire has tons of ROMs out there.
Also on Summer, I am planning take a break to Indonesia. Will T mob HTC Sensation support 3G in Indonesia?
Thanks
First, why don't you take the time to LOOK at the forum, but YES it can be rooted, check out the dev section
Second, idk
Google the GSM providers in Indonesia, find out what bands they're using and compare them to the bands the T-Mobile Sensation uses. If they match, you're good.

I see. I will google it
Look at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356664
It seems that the US providers (AT&T / T-Mobile) are using different frequencies. Decide what carrier you want THEN get a compatible phone.

T-Mobile have different UMTS frequencies (UMTS 900, UMTS 1700, UMTS 2100 instead of AT&T's UMTS 850, UMTS 1900), therefore only edge will work.

Hi,
I recently unlocked this phone and have been using it on Tmobile. My data is EDGE only and its frustrating. Yesterday, however, I left Brooklyn, where I live, for Great Adventures in New Jersey. As we were approaching the theme park my signal changed from EDGE to H+ and stayed that way for 10 hours. It returned to EDGE when we left the park. So, its possible to get more than EDGE if there's a concentration of mobile towers, which is what I am assuming happened.

No. What matters is frequency used by T-Mobile. Currently they are in the process of refarming their 1900mhz to 3g. Their is no way of knowing where they are testing and or activating the 1900 band. The only known place was in the bay area during the last apple event. You must have a found a spot. Its one of those you have to wait for tmo to reach your area

edge is really slow. it slower then 3g. why do you use an AT&T phone on t-mobile. is it the prepaid plan. if so their are a few prepaid that run on att network. If you went att prepaid you would get 3g minium if not more. i'm using a company called red pocket mobile. its not bad but it 55.00 a month i get unlimited talk text and 1gb of data. might wanna look into it. hope it helps.
So the International Version has no 4G support that has been established; however, their could be a possible way to still get 4G. I have seen with the SG2 International and The SG2 Tmo if you flash the modem of the tmo one onto the international they got 4G on Tmo. I have also read that i think it was the nexus or galaxy note or something had a locked band that they unlocked.... I heard that a radio probably wont change anything but does anyone else have any ideas?

Don't like waiting and I travel a lot.
Personally I think you should just wait you gaffe the s2 so it's not like you dying from a crappy phone and that way you would know it works properly I'm not sure about the one s but I know on my HTC sensation there is a extra antenna for the 4 g and we can't even buy a extra battery cover unless it had that antenna or we loose 4g

As far as I understand, it's not. Check www.htc.com/www and look at the One S specifications.
Doesn't support 1700 AWS bands nor does it have the 1900 mHz (AT&T 3G, soon to be T-Mobile HSPA+ as well).
A software hack won't fix bands that don't exist in the hardware.

The 850 mHz band is also AT&T 3G, but it is not as widespread around the country as the 1900 mHz band. So, you're getting AT&T 3G on 850 mHz because that is available on the One S.
See: http://www.cellularmaps.com/att_850_1900.shtml

Again, because they contain the 1700 AWS band to get T-Mobile 3G/HSPA+.
A software fix cannot fix what the hardware lacks in the International One S. I'm not sure you could coerce HTC into an exchange because they'll probably tell you that the detailed specifics are available on their website and you should always check with your carrier before buying an international device.
Your best bet would be to return it directly and buy the T-Mobile US model if you'd like T-Mobile service. Hopefully they'll get the black version, if not, sorry mate. Sometimes you have to choose carrier over design, or simply a different phone model.

So people wouldn't buy one to use it for a carrier it wasn't meant to be on? If the band is only in the T-Mobile version and people are on T-Mobile, their only choice is to buy it from T-Mobile if they want 3G.
T-Mobile probably doesn't want people buying their flagship off contract.
