May be we would be seeing new improved htc one x
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
They could offer new and improved to many by simply unlocking the bootloader. I maybe wrong, but my gut feeling says most people in this community are not going to be upgrading.
If your unlocked, why trade up for a phone that likely isnt going to be htcdev supported. And if your one thats stuck with locked and no root, you can expect this device to implement at minimum, the same level of /system protection as the current hoxl. HTC could go BIG and announce the X+ will be unlockable, but if you were stuck unrooted that would just piss me off all the more.

Is this just the Tegra chipset that supports LTE? Slightly faster CPU, but not by much. Only seems to be an "upgrade" to get the international users on LTE in their respective countries/carriers.

T-Mobile in the US doesn't have LTE, or will any time soon.
But I think you're right about this being for T-Mobile. I remember reading that T-Mob was coming out with a variant of the One X/X+. The (slighlty upgraded) Tegra3 chipset without LTE would make sense for T-Mobile.
Cool, the perfect thread for my completely empty, meaningless response. Today, just might be my day!
Just what we want, to support a new phone that comes out with locked bootloaders and no way to root.
I was just thinking the extra confusion it'll cause on the forums with another similar model, another brick in the wall, or several coming up I bet.

1. This phone isnt for att
2. When will people drop this? Atleast they are giving the option, it's not their fault att doesn't want us to unlock.
I remember before all of this it was either s off or nothing.
With my old phone the rezound, they went against Verizon's wishes and allowed us to unlock the bootloader. Basically it lost all support afterwards, became the red headed step child of Verizon you can say
I don't think HTC wants this for their flagship phone

actually just before leaving tmobile (familys plan on att was significantly cheaper or I would have never switched over to bull**** att ) i was talking on the phone with them though about a sudden slow down in net speeds one week and they explained they were likely to end soon and was a result of them preping for lte. so it may be closer around the corner than thought.

Hmm, seems like T-Mobile has been messing around with their HSPA+ speeds as "part of the carrier's 4G network evolution plan" and possibly even deploy LTE-Advanced (not just LTE) in 2013: http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/14/t-mobile-lte-advanced-trials/
I don't really keep up, since its not my carrier. But I didn't think they were even on track to deploy LTE anytime soon. Well, I guess technically that's true, since it seems like they may be skipping it for LTE-Advanced, lol!

you actually want the lte one? i would gladly trade you my lte for the gsm one, if mine was not going to be locked to rogers.
I just think there will be a lot more dev support for the gsm over lte, the only reason i am getting through rogers is the price because i am upgrading.

I thought the exact same thing at first. We don't even have LTE here and I've heard horror stories of not being able to turn off the LTE antenna with various skinned versions of android. The reason I didn't want the quad core variant is because I really just want the superior processor.

It wasn't busy at all. The funny part was that the first customer service agent I asked about the One X didn't even know what a One X was or if they had any in stock. She then goes on to the back room and was absolutely fascinated by the phone. She was actually playing with the phone more than I was. They're getting a much bigger shipment when the phone actually has its coming out launch. Today was pretty much a cold launch.
Absolutely beautiful phone though. I had to goto work, so I didn't get a chance to play with it. I play with it when I get home.

Absolutely no headphones in the box (strange), but I assume most people buy 3rd party headphones anyway.
It's also another way to push Beats headphone sales.
First, I wasn't able to take a photo. A friend of mine is a store manager for a nearby AT&T store. I picked him coffee since I was in the area near his store. We went back in his office to chill, but one of his Sales Reps, was doing a training on how to check to see if the HTC One X bootloader was locked or unlocked for warranty/in store exchanges.
From when I used to work at AT&T, we'd do a training about 2 weeks before device came out or there was a change being made to policy or intelus.
According to my friend, the reps and himself think that AT&T will be allowing the bootloader to be unlocked through HTC DEV by the end of the month following a OTA software update.
I personally am staking like 50/50 on this because it could mean AT&T knows the devs here on XDA will unlock the bootloader, or AT&T is allowing HTC DEV to allow the unlock.
Just doing an PSA.
You just made a lot of people very happy...lol

Do they do that so they don't have to deal with free warranty service? Thinking about it, they only going to benefit from users being able unlock their devices and void their warranty...
Next step for them would be void warranty for rooting and after that void for removing bloat.
you could always get this

also i get the feeling that this is good news because it most likely hints at an official unlock coming soon .
they probably dont care enough to keep tabs on our progress to getting an unoffficial unlock going

Though I will saay, at my friends store they have a machine, not the one for transferring numbers and such from one to device to another. It works by running the stock firmware side by side with the phone. It did show my phone status as red. I am rooted. This is a prewarning for anyone still nieve enough to accept an ota before its been torn down and examined. The One X, brother device(EVO 4g LTE) recently received an ota that SIGNIFICANTLY improved security on the device. Changes included a new hboot(as seen in the new hox ruu leaked) along with other patches, any EVO that was not previously s OFF can no longer use the s OFF exploit, lazypanda. On top of that, EVO and hox were both able to flash radios and kernals with the unlocked bootloader. The EVO, s on with unlocked bootloader can NO LONGER flash radios or kernals. Recoveries only. I am posting this to make the community aware that this update WILL most likely implement the same security changes that were put on EVO LTE owners.
If you accept the ota, you will likely:
Lose ability to flash kernals, and radios
Lose ability to use a s OFF exploit if it becomes available on the current(non updated) hboot.
Do thank the person bringing the ruu leak to xda for developers to examine and warning us of the soon to come ota. If it weren't for him, it would just show on our devices and a good percentage would accept, clogging our forums with help me threads. Check out the ruu leak thread to thank.

Not talking about devs, who contribute something to the overall environment (I would never refer to devs as "clowns"). I'm talking about the people who start fooling around with their phones without knowing what they're doing, brick them, then post things like "Will AT&T know what I did if I return this for a warranty replacement?"
And, whether the carriers can afford it (they can) isn't the point. It's that these folks motivate the carriers to make their phones ever more locked down in order to avoid having to deal with these bogus exchanges.
Wait, you got that wrong, reason we are getting more bricked phones is because the security on this device is NEW. Can't figure it out if you don't try, trying consists of trial and error. Well you know the sweetest of the story....
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
For every guy that takes a risk and flashes something that might achieve s off, 10 people have returned their phone because the email doesn't work, or the screen is too yellow, or its too quiet.. or loud. Do you see what I'm sayin?
Normal people don't root.. they just complain. So HTC locking down the phone more isn't preventative measures for tech support or return rates... Its just HTC being sloppy. Next it'll be that source is being delayed because they don't want people to brick their phones lol

Thanks, good looking out. Some people will heed your warnings, others wont. I'm afraid this would be a little harder to overcome than the 1.85 fiasco when everyone updated before there was a root exploit. If HTC is playing with the security like this then that is a little scary to me. Damn i wish i had a little birdy at HTC. Maybe samsung is the future for rooted devices. Maybe google will open Motorola up. HTC is goin backwards

Yeah, it's definitely a concern to me. I wish they would understand and just make it easy to do. The unlock site.could have an optional S-off to go with it. I would think it would be pretty easy for these guys to design a device to be very dev friendly, and also easy to recover if/when things go bad.

In lost tethering revenue, increased RMA rates, etc. etc. Don't think for one second that ATT doesn't have a detailed analysis of what rooted users cost them in terms of both lost revenue and increased RMAs.
This is a cat and mouse game, it's futile to ask the mouse to just jump in the cat's mouth.
I don't get it.

Good thing I got an international one x?

I see your point. But why can Vivid be unlocked while ours can't? Either lock all of them or none. All I want is for att to allow HTC to fulfill their pledge to unlock the bootloaders on all of their devices.

Good question, dunno. Is it out of warranty? Maybe once devices hit a certain age they don't fear the RMA flood.

Yep, and you're locked out of their latest gen network and htc is assuming no liability because you waived your warranty when you unlocked it.
Thing is, with att, even if you waive warranty on HTCDEV they have no way to check that. And they have customers in there face on a 2 year contract "hey my device just randomly stopped working, I need a new one!". What are they supposed to do?
Again, I'm not taking sides. I think we have a right to do what we're doing, I'm just saying I don't ever expect the carriers to embrace it.
And look at this angle.
With 1.85 and unlocked BL and root, I could write a cool app and submit it to the market. Some sort of backup app or boot animation or whatever, so it requires root, of course. And I could set it up to timebomb permabrick EVERY SINGLE DEVICE it was installed on by trashing SBL3. Can you understand why this makes the carriers nervous?

They still sell the vivid and several other devices with unlocked bootloaders. The percentage of users who want to do what we want to do with our phones is so small that we would barely be a blip on the bottom line.

Right now I'm at a loss of words. I am thankful for the support shown by the community so far. The reason this whole boot loader thing got me going was my inspire 4g. I had 2 years on that phone. It was my first venture into android and i was hooked. Rooted it as soon as I understood what the risks involved. Never bricked it. I only did it to be able to back my phone up entirely. I never expected to run a custom rom. I did and never looked back. I treated that phone badly on day and needed a new one, hence the One X. I had hoped to get a 1.85 but I didn't. I spent $213 dollars over 2 years on apps and in app purchases. I just want to be able to transfer all that to this phone. That shouldn't be too hard. Unfortunately it issue without root. Who is at fault here? Is it AT&T, HTC, or even Google for not providing a way for us to have a working backup utility without root?

Well, the screen on my One X died yesterday, and I was unable to revive it. After some wrangling with Customer Service, they're upgrading me early to a One. I'll probably drop in here from time to time, but I'm off to the One forums. Happy modding, and hope to see most of you over there eventually.

Tried to do that a few weeks ago when One XL #3 took a crap, but the One had just come out and it supposedly wasn't in the CSR's system. I ended up with XL #4, which, so far is working great (and is now rooted and S-off - hurray!).
Good luck with your One!
Thanks for the bootsplash ideas. Might come to the one sections to make some for it after I reign in sense 5.

Helped out a lot of noobs, including me. Shame to see ya go.
HAVE FUN WITH ONLY 2 CAPACITIVE BUTTONS
Take care Bud. You'll be missed by the community!

This happened to me. Have you tried taking it apart and adjusting that cable that is bent at 90°? That worked for me, but the phone caught on for shortly after. enjoy the one. I'd get it if att wasn't conspiring with HTC to keep away the rooters, and I don't want to pay $650 since the nexus 4 is great for under 400

Att didn't trip about you sending back tampered phones ? (relocked bl)
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Nope. I did relock and RUU back to stock each time, but I didn't bother changing the CID back or anything. Heck, the most recent one was S-off.
I haven't had any ROM related issues, though. It was always hardware.

Id get the one also if I didn't have to pay $450 for a "partial upgrade" why pay that much to enter a BS contract when I can hopefully hold out till the nexus 5 rumors start. This will be the longest I've ever used a device as my primary phone lol

I have not read a single instance on here of AT&T denying warranty service, or even giving a poo at all, about unlocked bootloader or custom ROM being on a phone. But lots of reports of folks here successfully sending in "tampered" phones for warranty service on a hardware issue.

I'm thinking about it, but I'm not going to take it apart until I'm sure I'm sticking with the One and all is well.
FWIW, HTC is not blocking the One, whether or not AT&T ever plans to ask them to. Looks like the rumors were wrong.
The international One roms work great on the AT&T version. I don't think I'm ever going back to an AT&T base.
Also, the frustrating multitasking issues on the One X? Not a sign of them on the One. :victory:
Just dropped mine and the screen shattered the other day. Have ensquared so paying $75 to have another one sent to me.
Honestly a little bummed I couldn't get a Samsung gs3 (or onex+) shipped out instead, but ay least I'll still have a phone .

I honestly want it, but I don't think my contract is over with the one x until late this year, and I'd rather not pay the cancellation fee :\ or the $650 Google version with aosp or Dev version

Lots of people have gotten early upgrades by complaining loudly enough. I was at least six months early.

Agreed. I lost my phone about 6 months before my upgrade was due, and ATT was more than willing to send me a One X. I paid a whopping 99 cents for it

Did you guys have AT&Ts extra insurance, or is this the normal 1 year warranty? My battery has been really screwey recently, keeps getting drained really fast when the phone is sleeping. I'm wondering if I should just go make some noise.
