Hi, recently installed Splashtop HD on the tablet as I needed to check my pc from work.
Noticed while using it that the pen hover is translated to mouse movement on the computer, this is the first time I've notice an application taking advantage of the pen hovering feature on the note 10.1.
Not sure if we have on the market any other applications that use it.
But I was very impressed with it, makes it much easier to controller the pc from the tablet.
Just and FYI
If anyone knows of any other app, please post.

Had no idea... cool, the menus drop down....
Jump Desktop also does this but you can't click with the pen, a stupid (but reportded) bug.
Hey,
since your're using Splashtop, you maybe could answer me this Question:
Can you use Splashtop on your tablet and work with Microsoft OneNote and the Stylus?
If it would work, the Note would be perfect, imho x)
I tried Jump Desktop and got screen flashes. Didn't do this on my phone. I tried PocketCloud and it doesn't have tablet fullscreen. Splashtop works great but u have to pay a monthly fee to use it away from your home network. -__-. I'm still looking for a better alternative. Jump would be awesome if they fixed the bugs.
Version 1 has no monthly fee

Don't buy/use the second version, buy the "old one" that one you pay only once.
There is splashtop and slpashtop2, I have the first one because of this.

To clarify the fee for Splashtop HD is annual not monthly and is less than $10. I find the HD version to work much better than the previous version (version 1, I never did do version 2)

Ok, I have this one....
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zcGxhc2h0b3AucmVtb3RlLnBhZCJd
I haven't seen anywhere that I have to pay more than the initial payment.
Just wanted to make sure I'm pointing you to the correct one.
I've looked into the app on the tablet and the server on my PC, I don't see any option or information regarding a subscription.
If there's one, I'm totally unaware of it, and is not mentioned anywhere.
This is the exact name, just in case the link wont work : Splashtop Remote Desktop HD
To answer your question... I really don't know I believe the second version is faster?
For what I've done, controlling my PC from work, and the work PC form home. It works perfectly.
It passes audio and video from home, which is a plus, but not the reason why I bought it.

Ah ok, thanks
For your information, this is the advice to me from Splashtop Team:
Splashtop 2 Support, Sep 13 23:02 (PDT):
Dear Tuyen,
Yes, you can use Splashtop Remote Desktop HD to setup internet connection between your computer and tablet.
Splashtop Remote Desktop HD is using Google server to setup internet connection, and the performance is not good enough, this is why we developed Splashtop 2. Splashtop 2 relies on our own global relay servers for improved 3G/Internet performance, reliability, and security.
So we suggest that it is better use Splashtop 2 for internet connection.
Consider that you may want to have a try before to buy the AAP feature, here we can help you to apply a special plan (1-Month FREE) for this purpose. If you are interested in it, please provide us your Splashtop Account, so that we can complete the process.
If there is any problem, please let us know, and thank you for using this Support service.

Honestly,
I think they just want to make more money, by having users pay for a service.
I've streamed video from home to work (Hulu) and worked perfectly.
For my specific needs I see no reason why I should pay a service fee.
But thanks for sharing that information I really appreciate it.
And actually make me happy to know I have "unlimited" subscription.

One way you can get it is to change your market location with Market Enabler:

Sprint in USA is 310120
Verizon in USA is 310012
Run Market Enabler, set your "location" with a custom entry (Either Sprint or Verizon) and then open Market. You should see logmein in search.

I just got an email after registering. You basically get 120 hours of use or 30 days trial. Whichever one comes first. This is a REALLY cool app but I can't see myself using it enough to pay for.
Apparently a new version of this app has rolled out today. Anyone able to grab it and repost? Even with ME running and the right values, it won't show up in market for me. I think it's to do with what version of Android I'm running (2.1 AOSP build)

I paid £29 for this on the iPhone, was amazed it appeared to be "free" on Android. Bear in mind that with this app and LMI free services you can remote control loads of PCs/Macs etc via phone or web browser. I've got it set up with all the relatives computers for remote support, as well as my home server.
Seems kind of reasonable to pay for the convenience of the app: I'll buy this when it comes out, it's that good.

But Ignition for pc is subscription based at 30-50usd a month I believe.
I cant justify paying that each month, if I did support through LMI for a living I would definitely consider it
But even if I wanted to pay I wouldnt be able to because google are being lazy bums in my country :'(

I'm usign their free service. Gives you ability to use a web browser on any PC anywhere to control all your machines, as well as use the Android app. You only pay for features like remote file sharing/printing etc.

It installed, but when I try to open, it says "trial period expired" and closes..
Edit: Never mind.. didn't look at the dates on the posts.

I have - it works fine. It looks like Sling updated the Android app yesterday to include high quality streaming, finally! It runs in full screen on the Xoom - the picture looks good (not great, but good). Hopefully Sling will release a tablet-optimized version as well.

Hey dwboston, I tried to look for this app in the market for the Xoom and I can't find it. Where did you find it at? I tried the search button, but it didn't find it either.
Works great for me
after the update, it works ok. the mobile controls need to be tweaked, but it is usable.
Slingbox on Xoom
The app works great on Xoom but is exactly the same as the application for the Android phone. Therefore if you purchased the application for your Smartphone no need to purchase it again for the Xoom.
Also since its the same app the controls could use some tweaking but overall it does what its suppose to and with good bandwidth the video quality is great.
I am working on a video to show you how it looks/works. Ill post it soon.
Slingplayer Overview Video
As promised I have a video overviewing Slingplayer app for Slingbox. Hope this helps those deciding on making the investment. I paid $180 for Slingbox(you really only need the regular) and $30 for Slingbox App for Android.

Excellent video, thanks! I don't have a Slingbox, but it sure is tempting after seeing how flawless and easy it ran on the Xoom.

Your Welcome. Please 'Thanks' me , helps me out a little. I run daily videos of different applications on Xoom so you can check out my channel through that link to see other vids, as well as request Apps you want to see in action. http://www.youtube.com/sleeplessninjas
The app itself is as flawless as the video depicted. Setting up the hardware initially for use over the internet can be a little tricky and its hard to make a generic video on how to set it up because the tricky part depends on customizing some port forwarding on your router. But if anyone is having issues with this setup just send me a private message. You probably shouldn't ask for help with the hardware setup in this thread because it doesn't really pertain to the Xoom itself.

From reading up on the device it looks really impressive. Especially with the HDMI In and the ability to have its own DVR. Thank you for sharing I am going to check it out.
For those that are on Dishnetwork with a VIP 922 or 722 with Sling adapter there is a free application. It shows up on the cellphone market, but not the tablet.
I downloaded the latest phone version in apk format from another site and installed it on the Xoom. The latest version has the HD mode that was just released on the normal Sling player. The browse portion is verticle, but when you play a video it switches to horizontal. Working great for me so far.
I have a Sling Pro-HD coming tomorrow and I am going to see how that works on other devices. If the quality is good I am going to hook it up to a device such as one of my Blu Ray players that has Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon on it to see how that looks and works.

I didn't have to search for it. I have it loaded on my phone (Dell Streak) so it showed up automatically in my list of apps in the Market on the Xoom the first time I turned it on.
I have the slingplayer app on ea bunch of devices. I have it for the ipod touch, my Droid, I even have a Windows license of it from when I had a Winmo phone. I have one of the older Slingbox AV devices and I gotta say it's been great. Now that I can hook the Xoom up to HDMI I can literally watch tv anywhere I am. I am traveling this weekend, hotels typically have HDMI inputs and wifi so I always have my tivo with me. I used it on my last trip to watch local news at night back home. The controls aren't perfect as mentioned above but they're pretty good. I use the app almost daily either on my phone on the Xoom. Most people complain about the cost of the app but to me it's worth it.

One thing if you decide on the Vulkano, just get the "platinum" version it has the same abilities that the other units have but does not come with an SD card or hard drive but they can be added for the dvr feature. With the free apps for all devices, I think its the best deal going. Good luck!

sorry to bump this thing up, but what version of Sling player are yours? mine doesn't work, just loads a black screen, sometimes it hangs there and most of the time it closes.
NVM found an update sorry.
I have a Slingbox AV (old model) and it still chugs away. I watch a half hour show at lunch everyday on the Xoom. Works well.

Bluetooth will most likely not support the bandwidth required for streaming. I would never suggest tethering (usb or bt) for anything other than just accessing the internet for google searches and other low bandwidth usage.
checkout a BT wiki for more info, BT is just not the best idea when it comes to any sort of high bandwidth file transfers or streaming or even tethering if you ask me... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth
I have my droid 2 tethered to my xoom and I have zero problems streaming my sling box HD.
I'm planing to buy TF soon, and I can't wait to get it
I'm intrested in one thing I couldn't find anywhere: can i view 2 programs in the same time? Just like in windows. For example on the left side of screen I can write office doc, and on the right side I can PDF files?
No.........................................
But why hasn't anyone thought of doing this? this would be an awesome feature, and we have the real estate to work with in tablet land. Android limitations that can't be overcome even with root access?
Yes.. so if you want to copy something from pdf to your doc, you must constantly switch programs, it is a bit harder but I think google, or someone else would add this feature soon..

There's an app called OnSkreen which will be implemented directly into OEM rom's which will allow for multi window running of applications. Check out their YouTube videos. Cool stuff, but you'll basically have to buy a tablet with it on there from the start (none exist at the moment).

It's not an APP, it's a special ROM that the company will sell to manufacturers - you can't just install it to your device. The beta will "hopefully" offer this rom to certain devices, but there's no guarantee that our Transformers will get it.

Is there any developer out there that have plans for making such an app for the phones as well?
I think that he/she would get donations from a lot of people if they started working on it. There are many programs that do not embed a widget option and if someone could make a widget that could scale down programs an ie put to running programs on the screen in vertical mode that would be soooooo niiiiiiice!! On my Galxy SII such an app would be perfect...
Anyone?
M
The thing is its not really an app but, like stated, a heavily customized OS. It goes back to how these mobile OS'es were devised. Its not windowed because they are assuming you are on a system that wouldn't perform well with multiple active apps and on a small screen where you would need all of the real estate.
There are times when I would wish for it but since apps are cached and not killed (if they are developed properly) its pretty easy to "alt-tab" back and forth between them when needed.

Download and use splashtop 2 HD it works awesome and is free. I purchased both thd and hd in the past and you are correct both work like crap. Crazy that this new version works great and has more options but is free for accessing locally, splashtop 2 is pushing accessing from anywhere Ala logmein and charging for it. Regardless its ridiculous apps I spent around $20 on work horribly and still aren't updated for jellybean yet this free version is excellent.
Thanks all for your response! For some reason I was thinking the Splashtop 2 was a pay app and I did not want to buy yet another version only to have it not work as well. Good to know its free (for local use) and works well!

Yeah, you're more than a little behind the times. The Flash whitelist was removed from RT about half a year ago. I'm amazed your device was sold with the OS that badly out of date, in fact.
Oh, and Flash for Android was officially deprecated even earlier, and no longer works on most devices (plus the latest version available is badly outdated).

Shows the superiority of RT for web browsing. Fully fledged desktop browser, yet still plays nicely with touch. Sorry but chrome and firefox for android do not come even close to internet explorer, and I don't even like internet explorer normally, firefox probably comes closest but I have found to be generally more buggy in other areas and slower too so I discount that.
Kenif, update your surface.
Otherwise, OP, the site appears to work although I am genuinely surprised that there is no spotify app yet. That would be a much nicer solution.

It is good that there is no app, so the persons who don't pay every month can use it free on taplot ...

you don't have to pay for the apps, all the apps do is give a nice interface to Spotify without opening the browser. They don't cost any more than the website.
Can you get Spotify for the RT yet as an app, I've used it for years, desktop at work, android tablet, android phone, now S-Pro tablet has it on for desktop and I have it on my N920 WP8 phone, one of the two apps I was missing on the RT was a wifi sniffer and Spotify...

no you don't.... I had the android app. Premium is an opt in experience but you can still use it with a free account with a play time limit as also exists in browser.

48 hours, i think is for the prenium try, i use spotify since a long time, and i never spent anything.
Now i use the play.spotify.com on my RT and it work fine.
Prenium is great when you listen a long time... because after X hours ( i dont remember how many) you can't listen anymore. Prenium is pretty cool too, if you want to listen your music without any connection...
On a tangent...
If you're in the UK and on Virgin Media, they normally offer you 3 to 6 months of spotify premium for free
Yup free trial here from VM, although I did used to pay for it, I was on a £35pcm o2 contract, once that finished and I moved to GiffGaff I was paying £10pcm so the £9.99 for Spotify still meant I was paying less.
Once my trial is up then I'll see if I can get another trial, I only really use Spotify when driving to/from work as I dont have a stereo in the car...
Does this work? play.spotify.com

Clearly you didnt even read the original post which asked and had answered the very same question. Yes play.spotify.com works if you have either updated the software so flash player works on all sites (quite an old update now) or use the whitelist tool (and if you need the whitelist tool you are months behind update wise and should really drop into the windows update tool some time)
I tried it on my android smartphone after 48 hours i cannot hear any song ... "no streaming without premium"

Just bought my surface yesterday. I had to install a ton of updates. It was installing updates dated several months ago. You can easily sideload flash on most android phones and if you use the right browser it works ok but not great.
