[Q] 2 programs on screen in the same time - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm planing to buy TF soon, and I can't wait to get it
I'm intrested in one thing I couldn't find anywhere: can i view 2 programs in the same time? Just like in windows. For example on the left side of screen I can write office doc, and on the right side I can PDF files?

No.........................................

But why hasn't anyone thought of doing this? this would be an awesome feature, and we have the real estate to work with in tablet land. Android limitations that can't be overcome even with root access?

Yes.. so if you want to copy something from pdf to your doc, you must constantly switch programs, it is a bit harder but I think google, or someone else would add this feature soon..

Planned release end of Q2 so pretty soon now
Public beta starts in agust

There's an app called OnSkreen which will be implemented directly into OEM rom's which will allow for multi window running of applications. Check out their YouTube videos. Cool stuff, but you'll basically have to buy a tablet with it on there from the start (none exist at the moment).

It's not an APP, it's a special ROM that the company will sell to manufacturers - you can't just install it to your device. The beta will "hopefully" offer this rom to certain devices, but there's no guarantee that our Transformers will get it.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk

Ih hope that TF is getting it ;D

Is there any developer out there that have plans for making such an app for the phones as well?
I think that he/she would get donations from a lot of people if they started working on it. There are many programs that do not embed a widget option and if someone could make a widget that could scale down programs an ie put to running programs on the screen in vertical mode that would be soooooo niiiiiiice!! On my Galxy SII such an app would be perfect...
Anyone?
M

The thing is its not really an app but, like stated, a heavily customized OS. It goes back to how these mobile OS'es were devised. Its not windowed because they are assuming you are on a system that wouldn't perform well with multiple active apps and on a small screen where you would need all of the real estate.
There are times when I would wish for it but since apps are cached and not killed (if they are developed properly) its pretty easy to "alt-tab" back and forth between them when needed.

Any rumors floating around on when we might possibly expect a little streaming action for Android?
thats one thing i miss from the iPhone... hopefully we get it soon.

It will probably happen on windows mobile first because Netflix uses silverlight to steam its content on PC's, they also have a history of giving Microsoft the first shot at streaming rights.
Windows Phone 7 has had it since release. It's not on android yet due to all the security flaws in androids coding. There would be apps to download movies from netflix within days and that goes against netflix terms of use.
Well they have a non-working app at the moment so it should be right around the corner. All you can do is manage your queue at the moment.

Skyrocket Appreciation

This phone is awesome. I have yet to see any posts showing interest in their phone, beyond changing ROMs like its a disease.
I recently found out I can use 'Six-Axis controller' to connect a ps3 controller to my phone and effectively have a portable n64 console with me. All I need to do now is find a Conker's Bad Fur Day or Banjo-Kazooie ROM.
I recently found out about LCD density changing and messed around with it a lot. 180 makes our Skyrocket look sexy. (But now I'm experiencing market compatibility issues so I need to look more into it).
I like organization, so SD-Maid was a nice find and I'm going to learn Titanium Backup to increase my battery life. Just need to find a freeze list.
I found the site My ColorScreen so theming will be a task soon undertaken, as soon as the necessities are figured out.
So come on, share some cool things about your phone. Whether it's a cool Llama task you made, new homescreen setup, an app you think people should know about, a ROM you like (AOKP + CM9, thank you guys), or an important tip you should know (I didn't know Titanium Backup could restore my folder settings in Nova Launcher, that would have saved time).
Be a little positive guys.
Why is it that an incorrect, naive post about an OTA update for Skyrocket can get two pages instantly full of people *****ing about how useless the thread is (then don't reply to it smartass).
While a thread with the capacity to help people find some cool things about their phone gets nothing.
I hear the app "LCD Density Modder Pro" can fix the market compatibility issues. It's a paid app though.
Any more info on the six-axis controller and how to use the phone as a "portable n64"? That sounds interesting!
Edit: Ah, a little bit of googling answered my question about that six-axis controller.. didn't realize it was an app. Makes sense now. Which N64 emulator do you use?
I don't root my phone but I love it to death! I also agree that negative posts get more responses than US news media stories.
That being said I love that flipboard app and I'm going to be buying a new Samsung LED TV. I've heard that we can turn our phones into remote controls for the actual TV, if not yet its on the horizon.
I also use mine for web browsing mostly and I'm looking for a cool app like MATLAB based or something that has Physics and Calculus formulas all over. I hope this thread gets going. Mad thanks to the OP. This is the first thanks I've used.

I currently have a Samsung TV, and it's true that we can use our phone as a remote control, as long as your TV has wifi and you connect your phone to the same network. You'll just need the app conveniently named "Samsung Remote" lol. It's free in the market. Works for their blu-ray players too I think.

Mupen64AE, pulled for free from the developers site here. You just run sixaxis and start the emulator, then map the buttons (less than 10 seconds) and you're good to go. Emulators were always a cool idea to me but they didn't translate well for certain games, but honestly with the analog sticks and actual triggers its a perfect experience.

You bumped your own thread because no one else would. You could have at least contributed the process of how to use the ps3 controller with the phone.

[APP][Team.Fluxion]XP Mod Launcher (beta) [WinXP Launcher for Android]

Disclaimer: I am not a spokesperson for team.fluxion nor do I have any affiliation to them whatsoever. The app stated in this post is simply a public service announcement to those that enjoy/want the Windows PC experience on their Android powered device. All rights of this app goes to its respective owners.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you ever wanted to get a PC quality experience on your Android powered device, then look no further! Windows XP is now on Android, well sort of. Thanks to the people in team.fluxion, who is no stranger to the development scene and has been pumping out applications since the good old windows mobile PPC days (Windows Mobile 5/6.x for the youngins reading this), as well as Windows desktop applications, we can now get a taste of Windows XP on our device, and for FREE . To save time, I will just use the description from their official Google Play page:
A legendary application for Windows Mobile Pocket PCs is back for Android as a launcher that imitates the look and feel of Microsoft Windows XP right on your Android device. It lets you explore your file system and open different file formats using default programs as assigned in your device. It also provides the common file system operations like copy, cut, paste and delete.
Short sweet and simple, right . This app is brand new (like first release new, hence the "beta" tag it's sporting) but it is amazing, and is very functional and fun for a beta release. I am running this on both my Evo 3D (qHD [540x960 resolution] screen, a bit small, but for those who are android tech savvy with some system partitions root permissions, just modify your build prop on the "ro.sf.lcd_density" line and add 40 to whatever your number is, or experiment with it different numbers. I think there's an app on the market for LCD density modification, too) and my Velocity Micro t408 cruz (its an 8 inch tablet, so no modification is really needed. I set my LCD density to 140 to make the status bar smaller though and it gives you a bit more screen real estate). Without further ado, here is the download link, completely free!
Download it here (Play Store Link) XP Mod Launcher
Oh and P.S. - They have a Windows XP boot animation that's cool too, check it out (surf their website, too) WinXP Boot Animation Android
I'm actually quite impressed. It looks and feels like the real thing.
It's missing the authentic crash every 20 minutes though.
Cheers for the share.

does this need a rooted phone?
Sorry for the ignorant question - but up til now with ICS being finaly an "up-to-par" (by my standards) and there actualy being hardware good enough to run it really nicely, ive always hated using android, hated the android experience completely, but now im thinking of getting my first android phone (galaxy s3) in a month or so and am wondering if i can use this kind of thing on it without rooting... im hoping not, thats the one thing i really waant out of android that i cant get on my iphone or windows phone, the really crazy apps like this without needing a jailbreak or a custom rom/interim unlock, those things make the phones very unstable in my experience and prefer to keep them stock
Wow. It's fun using a whole new type of launcher every once in a while.
Though there have been apps that I can't open but I guess it's to be expected since the launcher is still in beta stage.

[In Progress] Hacking the Optimum App for Kindle Fire

Cablevision recently released the full Optimum app with streaming capabilities, but it has only been released for the Kindle Fire. Since the Kindle Fire runs Android, it should be possible for the application to run on any other Android device. This thread will be the attempt at modding the Optimum application to work with all Android devices (2.3+).
Optimum App Download:http://www.mediafire.com/?169999r49rv15q9
Currently Known:
Application asks for root upon opening
Some devices can open and run the app successfully, but must log in and out every use. If not, data must be cleared for every use.
Credits:
Wanam- for his APK tool and his awesome guidance so far
Known feedback about application on other devices: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785945
I am new to modding applications, but I will do my best to get this to work. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to post them or contact me through PM.

I have tried on my CM9 Evo and CM9 Iconia A500, and in both instances the application works (sometimes I have to wipe data, sometimes it works flawlessly).
The point of this is to modify the application itself, without touching the device files, making it work with almost any version of Android (Gingerbread and up because that is the Kindle Fire version).
So far, I haven't come up with much in the past few days. I'm still looking though.
Also, my thoughts on Cablevision:
I think Cablevision is actually one of the "good guys". They have cheap plans, fantastic service, and they really do want to help their customers. Their TV service is great, and it offers a lot of fantastic channel choices. The Internet is really good, as I always get at least 25 up/down with very low ping (I do enjoy gaming).
I don't like the fact that they haven't come out with a streaming application for Android yet, but it is obvious that they are making progress. I do like watching TV on my laptop, and it is nice to know that I can watch it on an iOS device if I ever get one again. The fact that they have an application for an Android device just shows that they are very close to a full Android release.
I changed buildprop values to resemble kindle fire. It didnt work on my SGS3 stock ICS neither on my toshiba thrive stock ICS

Nice to hear! I love working for them. I used to work at Comcast but I lived in cable vision territory so I thought why not do the same job and get free service lol. They are definitely putting for effort in trying to offer the same experience for both iOS and android. I've been bugging them since I started and I might pursuit the development side. Maybe I can find out more when I am back in on monday .

Either of those scenarios you just mentioned are great, but voice commands w/ S Voice would be more useful (if it can even do this - I know Google Now can get me this info from my phone, but S Voice on the Gear currently just comes back and says "sorry, we couldn't find the answer to your question".
Also, if your hands are full, what makes you think that opening up and typing a web address on the watch's little screen will be "hands free"? You can't even interact with the watch without touching it with your other hand.

How would you navigate an app or browser without using you hands/fingers? Your football score scenario is already accomplished via ESPNs Score Center app. It can be configured to send notifications based on team preferences (i.e. notify of scoring plays during your fav team games).
And now that I think about it, if only the Google Maps app could be configured to send turn-by-turn notifications, we would sort of have GPS on our Gears.

How would you navigate an app or browser without using you hands/fingers? Your football score scenario is already accomplished via ESPNs Score Center app. It can be configured to send notifications based on team preferences (i.e. notify of scoring plays during your fav team games).

oh I forgot about the turn by turn functionality - Pebbles can do this, even though I never got a chance to use it since my phone is mounted on my dashboard. Would be useful when walking in a city, though - without keeping your phone out. The problem of course is the watchscreen turns off again and you have to touch the watch and navigate to the app again to see the next direction.

Yep, and shortly after I posted this I came up with an article about that Pebble feature... however, it seems it is limited to the iOS version of Google Maps because it is able to send normal push notifications for each turn.
