[Q] Rom Manager Question - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I can never select the external storage for Rom Manager no matter how I format the SD Card. I can use the SD Card formatted as Fat32 just fine through CWM Recovery but if I install a rom through Rom Manager and select backup, it always places it on the internal memory.
I'm trying to determine if its my formatting or an issue with Rom Manager itself. The option to "Use External Storage" is grayed out.
Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks!

I had the same problem with my ScanDisk 64 GB. I switched over to GooManager and TWRP for my custom recovery. It has a pretty cool touch UI in recovery mode instead of having to navigate using the volume and power buttons. I kept ROM Manager though, just in case I wanted to try a ROM down the rode that was better using that system. I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff, so I'm still learning.

I'm having the same issue and an cannot find resolution. Anyone know how to correct, without flashing another recovery.

Because of the way our ext-sd is mounted, ROM Manager wont recognize the external card ... no matter how it is formatted.
For now, it is a trade-off. Correct dates, but internal memory only.

Phone is asking for SD Card

I flashed my friends G2x Gingerbread with Clockworkmod via NVFlash. After that, I rooted the phone with jboxer's zip. I was going to install EaglesBlood rom but when I booted into recovery and tried making a backup, it said "Can't mount SD Card" and it didn't create the backup.
I had to go into ROM Manager and create the back up and install the rom through there.
Now that the ROM is flashed, I can't use the camera because it says "Please insert an SD card before using the camera."
Also, in the notification bar there is an SD card symbol with a "!" on it and it says "SD card removed. Insert a new one"
What made the phone ask for the SD Card? Was it CWM?

Which card? The internal one that comes with the phone? Because I have an SD card and I put it into my friends G2x and then I was able to use the camera and everything.
The problem is that it's asking for the SD card and without it, the camera doesn't work.
Is an SD card needed to create a backup and flash a new rom? Is there anyway to use the External SD that's in the phone?

The memory in the phone is the internal "sdcard" not the external one. Making backups requires a physical sd card. What good would be making backups to your phone memory and then your phone gets hosed and you cannot access that memeory anymore and poof, backups are gone. Without an sd card the camera should be able to use the internal memory. Check the settings in the camera and make sure it is set to use internal memory. Also, some roms switch the internal "sdcard" and physical sd card around, which can get real confusing. But in recovery the physical sd card is always where the backups go (at least as far as I understand it).
Yeah I got it now. Cm7 does switch the internal SD with the microsd that's why the camera wasn't working, but there's an option to switch them around

CM7 assumes you have a physical sd card and that you want it to be the main memory the phone uses for "sdcard". I personally prefer to leave it as is to avoid confusion. It is just that if you use internal memory and your phone gets borked, you lose everything in the internal memory (a common problem with Galaxy S devices).
Is there an option for this in the Miui (latest) rom? I am having the same problem.

[Q] how to install eos 2

Hi guys,
I've got v.1 currently installed but I've seemed to hit a stumbling block trying upgrade to v.2. Normally I would go into recovery and install update via sdcard or zip.
But when I try to go to my sdcard all I can see is my internal storage and not the external sdcard. I have a feeling its because my internal storage is called 'sdcard'
How did you other guys install this update? Thanks
When I installed it, I went to "Install from SD Card" Then I Scrolled to the File and Flashed it, I think You have to put the 2.0 file on external1.
That's what I did. I put the new rom on the external sdcard. But in recovery when I choose 'sdcard' it only shows the internal storage. I have tried using a different sdcard but its just the same, it points to the internal storage.
Can I put the from on the internal storage space to update??.

i thought the updates had to be on the external sdcard, but i guess not.
thanks again

After ICS flash reboots to recovery

Hi guys
Please assist, i have unlocked, installed recovery.
My phone was not rooted, but apparently the ROM i installed wouldve done that automatically.
When rebooted, my device, booted directly to recovery?
I can access Fastoot protocol, access recovery fine, but it does not boot to the ROM?
When i tried to choose install from internal zip, it says "no files found" which is strange?
Please help me, device off, not sure what to do?
your rom zip should be on external sd card, not internal, internal sd card is what you should be flashing the rom too in recovery not from.

Thank you, i managed to get it sorted.
It seems like my download was corrupted or something (The actual ROM File)
Not correct, with a Motorola XOOM i flash the ROM with the zip file on the internal memory (folder DCIM) and work perfect like from a external sd card.

[Q] Damaged SD card storage

Hello,
My Desire S is running on rom BlindMIUI_v2.5.25 which I loaded June 5th of this month. Suddenly since 3 days back it is saying "Damaged SD card storage" and also saying "Format USB storage, erasing all files stored there, action cannot be reversed"
Please advise should I format SD card? Will this solve the problem. If I format then I will try to save files and then will do it and restore the file again.
What happen is that if I reboot is for few time the SD card comes again and for no reason I disappear without any notice.
Please help me if there is any solution.
Brgds
Looks like It's corrupted. A format should fix it. Connect it to your computer via a memory card reader or mount it in recovery and backup everything to your computer if possible. Then do a full format of the card (uncheck quick format in Windows). After that use the 'format sdcard' option in recovery and then copy the backed up data to the phone.

Hello sashank,
Thanks for so prompt response. See I have just inserted another SD card and now phone does not get any SD card. It says "SD card is not available". From this it seems to me it is rom problem not the SD card. Am I correct? Should I change the rom and go for a newer version which is MIUI.us-2.6.8 or just a format will do?
Please advise.

Hello darkion,
The phone is giving the option to format it. Should I do the format through phone or is there any other way to do it. Please advise me in details.
Would appreciate your help.
If your phone is giving an option to format it then use it. I find it strange that it didn't detect the other SD card too, but in any case if it's asking you to format it instead of just not detecting it then it doesn't seem like an issue with the card slot. So format it in the phone and see how it goes. Alternatively, go into recovery-wipe and format-format sdcard. I always use this for formatting my card as it works better then formatting it in the ROM itself, especially when my card gets corrupted.

You should not forget to simply clean your sd-card and the slot in your device a little bit. This might be an easy solution, you should at least try it.
Or maybe you've already done .. ?

Hello sashank,
What I did is I formatted it in the PC so as in recovery as you said in the earlier response. The phone give the option but it does not work so I could not formatted it through phone.
It seems like working now. Phone shows there is SD card and through file explorer I can go to SD cards file. But only thing is that when I go to SD card files through file explorer, it take few seconds to retrieve the SD card files which never happened before.
Thanks for all your help.
Ok, when you format it in the PC, if you're using Windows, choose a cluster size of 32k in the format window. It gives a better read and write speed, especially read speed. So the SD card shouldn't take that long to show files. In general you'll see the card is giving faster speeds, both on the phone and when transferring files from the computer.
Also there's another way to increase the read speed of the SD card in the phone, which is by setting a higher read ahead speed. If you want to know more you can search about it, but otherwise just install this app SD Speed Increase, set your read ahead speed to 2048kB and tick 'set on every boot'. You shouldn't feel any SD lags after this. This speed increase is only on the phone though, won't reflect if you're transferring files from a computer. You need to be rooted for this to work.

How do I fix it so I can remove the SD card on Cyanogenmod 13?

I'm running CM 13 on a HTC Desire A9191.
I wanted to remove the SD card, but when it boots up again the phone says 'Encryption unsuccessful'. It works again if I put the card back in and reboot the phone.
When I go to Storage and USB under settings, there is no option to select SD card. If I select 'Storage and USB' it takes me straight to 'Internal Storage' without asking me what storage I want to configure. I press the menu button but there is no option to make it portable.
I want to move the SD card to another phone, and have this one without an SD card. I know that it works without an SDcard, but how? Do I need to move the /data partition somehow? How do I do that?
Code:
sm has-adoptable
returns
Code:
false
.

If you enabled adoptable storage on your device or if you moved apps to sdcard by some other mod then the device won't work without the sdcard. You need to undo adoptable storage or undo your apps to sdcard modifaction.

I didn't do anything except install the ROM. I have not encrypted anything, and as I said 'adoptable storage' returned as false.
It's possible the old ROM (stock 2.3) had the SD as internal storage. How do I reverse that?
Doy! This is a feature of aceopt. If I want the SD Card in something else, I have to install a ROM that just ace (not opt)
Sorry!:cyclops:
