Phone is asking for SD Card - T-Mobile LG G2x

I flashed my friends G2x Gingerbread with Clockworkmod via NVFlash. After that, I rooted the phone with jboxer's zip. I was going to install EaglesBlood rom but when I booted into recovery and tried making a backup, it said "Can't mount SD Card" and it didn't create the backup.
I had to go into ROM Manager and create the back up and install the rom through there.
Now that the ROM is flashed, I can't use the camera because it says "Please insert an SD card before using the camera."
Also, in the notification bar there is an SD card symbol with a "!" on it and it says "SD card removed. Insert a new one"
What made the phone ask for the SD Card? Was it CWM?

Which card? The internal one that comes with the phone? Because I have an SD card and I put it into my friends G2x and then I was able to use the camera and everything.
The problem is that it's asking for the SD card and without it, the camera doesn't work.
Is an SD card needed to create a backup and flash a new rom? Is there anyway to use the External SD that's in the phone?

The memory in the phone is the internal "sdcard" not the external one. Making backups requires a physical sd card. What good would be making backups to your phone memory and then your phone gets hosed and you cannot access that memeory anymore and poof, backups are gone. Without an sd card the camera should be able to use the internal memory. Check the settings in the camera and make sure it is set to use internal memory. Also, some roms switch the internal "sdcard" and physical sd card around, which can get real confusing. But in recovery the physical sd card is always where the backups go (at least as far as I understand it).

Yeah I got it now. Cm7 does switch the internal SD with the microsd that's why the camera wasn't working, but there's an option to switch them around

CM7 assumes you have a physical sd card and that you want it to be the main memory the phone uses for "sdcard". I personally prefer to leave it as is to avoid confusion. It is just that if you use internal memory and your phone gets borked, you lose everything in the internal memory (a common problem with Galaxy S devices).

Is there an option for this in the Miui (latest) rom? I am having the same problem.

Problem with SD Card after Flashing 2.2

Hey so I just decided to flash JI6 on my Captivate, and I noticed that my device wasn't showing any items on my SD Card. It sees my sd card, but doesn't see all the stuff thats on it. I've tried to unmount, reinstalling it, and restarting the device, but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help me? This is really annoying. I did make sure all my stuff was still on it by plugging it into my computer. I did a search for this before posting, and couldn't find anything about this happening. Thanks for any help.
I'm not an expert at flashing. But I seems to recall that you have to remove your SD card and SIM card before flashing ROM. Hopefully you removed the SD card before flashing...
Do you see both internal and external sd card? If you installed one of the i9000 based ROMs that have no SD card, you may only be seing your internal storage and not the external SD card at all.
2.2 changes the path to where the external SD card is stored. It is not the same as 2.1. I don't remember exactly, but 2.2 puts it under the /mnt directory and i don't think External is under internal anymore.
2.1 is /sdcard/sd for external
2.2 is /mnt/internal_sd (i think)

I think it should be ok. I have flashed ROMs like more than like 30 times so far, and I always had my external SD card sitting in there.

Some 9000 based ROMs have trouble with external sd. There are SD card fixes posted in those ROM threads itself. Apply them through CWM recovery console and you should be good.
I have attached one such sd card fix for 2.2.1 from "Doc's ROM JPY V6.1.3 CE" thread. If u r using a 2.2.1 based ROM, this could work for you.

[Q] Cant Access Internal SD Card?

hey guys - since rooting and installing CM7 on my phone i cant access the internal SD Card from my phone.. it is coming up as an unknown location (which leads to some of the problems i've been having) - the only time i have access to it is by USB Mounting.. but through the phone itself - i cant get to it..
what can i do to my phone to get access to it?
i removed the external SD Card - and tried to access the internal SD through the file manager- still no luck.. cant even take a pic because it says "please insert SD Card"
clueless on why i cant access the internal SD Card (even with the external card removed)

Restore a nandroid of the stock rom and see if it works. Feel free to flash to another rom after that
Are you sure you're looking in the right place? It's mounted as /mnt/emmc
Do you have root explorer to navigate to this directory?
i did wat omar said and its cool now - i only need to figure out this problem im having with downloading data to the external SD
Sorry to being noob. Yeah i got same problem with the mytouch 4g. Can't access to the internal sd card. I lost the external sd card that back up fiels from nanroid. So can someone help me to access back in different ways?
Thank you very much

SD card not being recognized correctly!

I have a completely stock Sensation:
Android version 2.3.4
Software 1.45.531.1
I have the 8gb sandisk sd that come with the phone.
My SD card has never worked properly, when I take photos they are saved on the SD card. If I try and save a picture from a text message I get an error stating there is no SD card.
The main issue I have is I am trying to download a system update and I get an error "You need an SD card to download the system update."
I have tried to format the SD card a couple of times and I still get the same error. I have tried other cards with no luck.
Anyone have any ideas?
Try to root and flash different ROMs to see if there are any differences. If rooting and flashing doesbt work, maybe your phone SD reader is broken. Or maybe you didn't put it in right(x Jk. Try to root.
Possibly try to reset your phone to stock. When you go into settings and into storage, does it say anything under external storage or SD card?

It also gives me the option to unmount the SD card

[Q] Damaged SD card storage

Hello,
My Desire S is running on rom BlindMIUI_v2.5.25 which I loaded June 5th of this month. Suddenly since 3 days back it is saying "Damaged SD card storage" and also saying "Format USB storage, erasing all files stored there, action cannot be reversed"
Please advise should I format SD card? Will this solve the problem. If I format then I will try to save files and then will do it and restore the file again.
What happen is that if I reboot is for few time the SD card comes again and for no reason I disappear without any notice.
Please help me if there is any solution.
Brgds
Looks like It's corrupted. A format should fix it. Connect it to your computer via a memory card reader or mount it in recovery and backup everything to your computer if possible. Then do a full format of the card (uncheck quick format in Windows). After that use the 'format sdcard' option in recovery and then copy the backed up data to the phone.

Hello sashank,
Thanks for so prompt response. See I have just inserted another SD card and now phone does not get any SD card. It says "SD card is not available". From this it seems to me it is rom problem not the SD card. Am I correct? Should I change the rom and go for a newer version which is MIUI.us-2.6.8 or just a format will do?
Please advise.

Hello darkion,
The phone is giving the option to format it. Should I do the format through phone or is there any other way to do it. Please advise me in details.
Would appreciate your help.
If your phone is giving an option to format it then use it. I find it strange that it didn't detect the other SD card too, but in any case if it's asking you to format it instead of just not detecting it then it doesn't seem like an issue with the card slot. So format it in the phone and see how it goes. Alternatively, go into recovery-wipe and format-format sdcard. I always use this for formatting my card as it works better then formatting it in the ROM itself, especially when my card gets corrupted.

You should not forget to simply clean your sd-card and the slot in your device a little bit. This might be an easy solution, you should at least try it.
Or maybe you've already done .. ?

Hello sashank,
What I did is I formatted it in the PC so as in recovery as you said in the earlier response. The phone give the option but it does not work so I could not formatted it through phone.
It seems like working now. Phone shows there is SD card and through file explorer I can go to SD cards file. But only thing is that when I go to SD card files through file explorer, it take few seconds to retrieve the SD card files which never happened before.
Thanks for all your help.
Ok, when you format it in the PC, if you're using Windows, choose a cluster size of 32k in the format window. It gives a better read and write speed, especially read speed. So the SD card shouldn't take that long to show files. In general you'll see the card is giving faster speeds, both on the phone and when transferring files from the computer.
Also there's another way to increase the read speed of the SD card in the phone, which is by setting a higher read ahead speed. If you want to know more you can search about it, but otherwise just install this app SD Speed Increase, set your read ahead speed to 2048kB and tick 'set on every boot'. You shouldn't feel any SD lags after this. This speed increase is only on the phone though, won't reflect if you're transferring files from a computer. You need to be rooted for this to work.

Install a ROM with no SD card?

You'll have to excuse my ignorance with phones that don't have an SD card slot...
I have a One X without a SD card slot. How would I go about installing a ROM after its rooted? I haven't rooted it yet... but I just like to know what I'm getting into before I do so. I rooted and flashed my Inspire 4G, but the bootloader menu said "Install from SD card". Will this one just work and use the internal storage as an SD card?

yes in fact if you look at the file system with a file manager you'll see that your internal storage is called /sdcard.
Gunny hit the nail on the head. Our phoned have a partitioned storage labeled as SD. It functions like a normal SD card.
