[Q] how to install eos 2 - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I've got v.1 currently installed but I've seemed to hit a stumbling block trying upgrade to v.2. Normally I would go into recovery and install update via sdcard or zip.
But when I try to go to my sdcard all I can see is my internal storage and not the external sdcard. I have a feeling its because my internal storage is called 'sdcard'
How did you other guys install this update? Thanks

When I installed it, I went to "Install from SD Card" Then I Scrolled to the File and Flashed it, I think You have to put the 2.0 file on external1.

That's what I did. I put the new rom on the external sdcard. But in recovery when I choose 'sdcard' it only shows the internal storage. I have tried using a different sdcard but its just the same, it points to the internal storage.
Can I put the from on the internal storage space to update??.

Yes - don't forget google apps.

thanks, updated perfectly.
not sure why i couldnt see the external sdcard in recovery.
i thought the updates had to be on the external sdcard, but i guess not.
thanks again

[Q] clockworkmod looking in wrong file to flash from

Hi, I have clockwork mod 4.0.0.4 and I was trying to flash a rom from it. I went to install zip from SD card and then it brought me to the SD card directory, but for some reason my internal memory is renamed to SD card and my external SD card is named external 1, so instead of bringing me to the directory with all of the files that are on the sd card it brings me to the directory with all of the internal memory files. How to I flash a rom if I can't get to the right directory from clockwork mod?
Hi,
With CWM, it will only allow you to flash from your Internal SDcard only. Option 1, move your files that you would like to flash - to the Internal SDcard Directory, or If you would like the option to flash from either the External or Internal you can use the CWM Rogue Recovery.

Thanks. Its weird because I thought I flashed zips from the external SD card before. I thought that you should put all of the fies that you are going to flash on the external SD card just in case something happens to the internal memory. Or if you do a factory data reset then it will get erased and you won't have the file to flash.

LOL, it is good practice to copy the files to your external (if you have the space). I keep a copy of my needed .zips in a folder on my PC. Rooted - If you do a Factory Data Reset from CWM, all of your files will remain in tact.

Actually, it depends on the version you have installed. Solarnz' R4c v 3.2.0.0 custom recovery flashes from the external sdcard. Version 4.0.0.4 from Rom Manager only flashes from the internal "sdcard " and rogue recovery can flash from either.

True, there are other options; however he and I were referring to his current version 4.0.0.4.
and wanting the ability to flash from both the External and Internal
SDcards.

Any way to make the sd card and internal storage have proper labeling?

I've recently rooted and flashed Team EOS nightlies to my Xoom and noticed that my internal storage is /sdcard and my actual sd card is /external1. This is kind of annoying and I'd like to set it back to how it used to be. Downloads through GooManager will be sent to /sdcard, my internal storage, and I will have wasted time booting into recovery trying to flash something as it is not on my card...
In Root Explorer, look in your media folderon the root directory-you should see internal, sdcard and usb folders. You also may see your sdcard listed as external1 elsewhere...there are many roads to Rome...just sayin'.

[Q] CM9 Alpha 6 External SDCard problem?

So im having this messed up problem with CM9 Alpha 6, i have the vurrutkernel installed btw. So heres my problem. I can't access my external SD card (which is 16GB) from ES File Explorer, yet if I go to the CM9 music player (apollo) i can see all my songs which are on the 16GB card. If i go into storage, i see 3 things: Internal storage, USB Storage , SD Card (which says total space 16GB).
1. Why can't I access the 16GB card from ES File Explorer?
2. When I click move to sdcard for an app, it moves to USB storage but not my 16GB Sdcard.
3. How the hell do I have THREE storages? (Internal,USB,SD Card)????
I reaaaallly love this ROM but this problem is confusing me. Thank you very much in advanced to anyone who answers!

Basically the mount points are as follows..
/mnt/emmc = external sd card
/mnt/sdcard = internal sd
I cant elaborate why u have three storages..
Try using io file manager once to chwck if u have access to external sd thru /mnt/emmc and internal sd thru /mnt/sdcard..

Yes thank you so much, those mount points are absolutely correct. But i still have no Idea why I have a 3rd storage
Gonna full wipe.

Yes, i'm seeing these in Storages.

I just did a full wipe plus cache wipe and dalvik wipe but the third storage (USB Storage) is STILL there?!
We have 4GB internal memory in which 2GB is used by system and the other 2GB is available for user. The internal memory shown is system memory and usb storage is the user accessible memory.
Im sorry but that still doesn't make any sense.
I installed an app to my phone, by default it is on internal storage (1.8GB available) but when i click move to sdcard, it moves to another storage named USB storage, which has 1.5GB available, and my 16GB card is nowhere to be seen, other then in the Storage menu. And by the way, the 16GB card has 9GB available as I checked from my computer.
If you want to use your sd card then change your storage configuration from storage.

It would be helpful if you elaborate a bit, I went to storage and then pressed menu, the first option is already ticked for storage

Ok i went thru a thread in sgs2 forums and found this..
Wen u tick 'use internal storage' the internal mem (the one which is user accessible and not used by the system) is used as sd card (mounted as as sdcard).. in this case the external sd (mem card) is mounted as emmc..
Wen u untick 'use internal storage' the external sd is used as sdcard.. in tht case the internal sd is mounted as emmc and external sd (memory card) is mounted as sdcard..
If u now move any app to sdcard it will be moved to external sd (memory card)..
Try it out.. worked on my 9100..

hey buddy. The solution for your problem is so simple. Just now, I had flashed cm9 rom on my galaxy wonder. I get also same problem as yours. You have to //mnt. There you can see sd card and external_sd folder. You just click on the external_folder and its done. In my opinion, the folder for opening external sd car has been changed from usual. I hope this message can help you. bye

[Q] Rom Manager Question

I can never select the external storage for Rom Manager no matter how I format the SD Card. I can use the SD Card formatted as Fat32 just fine through CWM Recovery but if I install a rom through Rom Manager and select backup, it always places it on the internal memory.
I'm trying to determine if its my formatting or an issue with Rom Manager itself. The option to "Use External Storage" is grayed out.
Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks!

I had the same problem with my ScanDisk 64 GB. I switched over to GooManager and TWRP for my custom recovery. It has a pretty cool touch UI in recovery mode instead of having to navigate using the volume and power buttons. I kept ROM Manager though, just in case I wanted to try a ROM down the rode that was better using that system. I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff, so I'm still learning.

I'm having the same issue and an cannot find resolution. Anyone know how to correct, without flashing another recovery.
Because of the way our ext-sd is mounted, ROM Manager wont recognize the external card ... no matter how it is formatted.
For now, it is a trade-off. Correct dates, but internal memory only.

[Q] app get copied to external SD Card rather than internal SD Card

hi, im Geoff.
recently after flashing the stock 4.0.3 ICS firmware, flashing a old bootloader and using my own USB Jig and resetting
the flash counter for kernels, i finally flashed JellyBean 4.1.2 Original Firmware from Samsung. my mobile is Galaxy S2 i9100.
my problem is i recently bought a 16GB micro sd card and inserted it into my phone before i could install any app onto my phone.
then i installed few apps and games from the Google Play Store. then i noticed the external sd card have about 120 mb of used
memory. but i only had about 20 mb of data that i copied onto it that were certain zip files and nothing else. i noticed that when i install
any app, then go to applications and move to SD Card option [which previously copied apps to the internal SD Card/USB storage],
is now actually moving the apps to the External SD Card. So if I unmount the external SD Card or remove it, none of my installed apps appear.
My external SD Card is meant for songs and movies. I want my internal SD Card to store all my apps so that i can remove my External
SD Card when ever i want to and swap it or not use it at all.
I also removed the external SD Card and then installed a new app, then use the move app to SD Card option. I got a error message,
saying something like insufficient memory/space.
my doubt is, apps are trying to be moved to the internal sd card but because they cannot be moved, they are being copied to the
external sd card.
any help is appretiated. btw i have rooted my phone by doing the temporary update of CWM from the stock recovery using the update from
external card method. then i also installed SuperSU. so its rooted and i didn't have to flash a kernel to root.
[update] im gonna provide some new info here:
I have a Android folder in my Internal SD Card [sdcard0]
and ".android_secure" in my External SD Card [extSdCard]
/mnt contains
asec [software files stored on the internal memory/ not internal SD Card or sdcard0]
obb [empty]
secure/asec [software moved using move to sdcard option. these files get copied to the extSdCard and not the sdcard0]
.lfs
and the sdcard and extSdCard links.
If I remove my External SD Card and try to move apps to the Internal SD Card using the move to sdcard button in application settings,
I get the insufficient memory error.
Also when I use the move to SD Card button in Application Settings, it shows the file being moved to the USB Storage [which is supposed to be
the internal sd card or sdcard0], yet it actually is being copied into my external SD Card or extSdCard.
What apps/games?
A lot of app data is stored on SD card, whether the core files and executable are on the internal or not, so that may just be cache stuff etc... One way to check is to remove the SD card then try to run whichever apps, I am willing to bet they still run.

i use the move to sd card for most apps/games. apart from 1-2 apps that dont have that option, about 10 apps+games have the option to be moved to the SD Card. And i used that option. But I am positive they got copied to the External SD Card because after I remove the
External SD Card, all the apps disappear.
Also when i then try installing new apps to the phone and then try to move them again [without the external sd card in its slot],
i get the error message of insufficient space/memory.[i have 8GB+ empty space in the internal SD Card]
its really annoying me

Sounds like you have an option enabled in app settings to install all to SD, check your app settings in system settings.

I have gone through everything in settings. I cant find any option where I can actually select weather to install all to SD.
I appretiate you trying to help me out. I hope i find a solution to this problem.
Initailly I felt that it cound be some code causing the apps to move to the external sd card instead of the internal one. But after I got
the error message that I have insufficient space [with the external sd card removed ], even tho I have plenty of space, about 8GB+,
on the internal sd card...so I dont think this is due to any code somewhere pointing to install into the external SD card.
I read somewhere that when the internal sd card is full and no more apps can be installed, the new apps go to the external sd card by default.
Something like that is happening to me, except my internal sd card is fine.
I updated my first post with more info to help diagnose and solve the problem. ty to all trying to help me.

I would back up the stuff you want from SD and from your ROM (to your computer), then go to recovery, full wipe + cache + dalvik, then format external SD, then reboot into system, then restore what you want.

hey man ty for not giving up on me ive not been well and then got so busy recently....
i did what you asked. i even accidently wiped the system folder from cwm recovery. it went into a boot loop or whatever it is called.
i re-flashed the official samsung jellybean firmware 4.1.2 on my i9100. then again cleant delvic + cache +used data. yet the problem
persists.
i noticed that the android folder is being created in the internal sd card. but that android folder has very small amount of the app
files stored on it. the major chunk is in android_secure which is only being stord on the external sdcard.
when i go to mnt folder in root i see two folders named asec and secure.
1."asec" contains apps stored on internal memory [not internal sd card]
and 2. "secure" contains a "asec" folder which stores app stored on the external sdcard.
i believe somewhere the code which should point the android_secure folder to the internal sdcard is pointing to store apps on the
external sd card. perhaps you guys can show me how i can change the folder path of android secure. then it will behave like
default, the way is was meant to behave.
You might need to repartition your system.
I'll see else we can come up with later today, in the mean time, try to maybe use TWRP instead and a different ROM

when i click move to sdcard in the application settings/menu, it shows USB data filling up.
that USB data is supposed to be my USB drive or my Internal SD Card. And the external sdcard shows up
as 0 KB of data. But actually the files are being copied to the external sdcard and not internal.
now if we think the android system cannot access the internal sdcard, then thats not the matter because
it creates a folder named Android in the internal sdcard and stores the app cache there.
So to me it seems that the android system is confused and actually thinks that the android_secure folder is
mounted on the internal sdcard while it actually is mounted on the external sdcard.
perhaps anyone can link me a guide to move my android_secure folder...
