AT&T still seems to be sending 1.85 phones - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

My phone got wet over the weekend so I had to contact Asurion to get a replacement. I just received it and it is indeed 1.85 so it seems they are still some out there. Looks like i won't sell my HTC One X after all...

Interesting... swapped my second SGS3 out for a One X yesterday, and it was already on 2.20 (as were both demo units, for whatever it's worth). Wonder if I might be able to swap it out for a 1.85 model. It's that or hope and pray we can find a loophole in 2.20. Friggin' HTC and AT&T, ugh.

since its coming from asurion that makes more sense. Is it worth the deductible to get it replaced to a rootable phone? i bet it is to many..
Dammit, wheres my phone? Somebody took it..... Damn i'm mad. Replacement time? J/k I'm rooted already. If i was stuck on 2.20 without root i'd have a replacement here tomorrow.

hopeful!

I don't know about "swapping" exactly, but I had two refurbished phones in the span of two days, and both of them were 1.85. I live in California, if that helps you spot a trend? I was wary too of getting a 2.20, but somehow it kind of worked.
Maybe if you go to a repair center, you could ask them for a specific firmware device?

I'd kill to have a repair center nearby. I always have to call customer service for warranty issues.

I just purchased a BNIB HOX on Craigslist. It was originally purchased 8/22 and it's running 1.85.
Dunno if this is pertinent to this post.

Been considering trying to trade mine with someone on Craigslist for an older one that's running 1.85. On the fence, since if I do that I'm now SOL if something goes wrong with the phone. At least with this one I can return it or swap it for a new one if I find a defect. I'm assuming even if I buy one NIB, AT&T knows the serial number of the phone or something so I wouldn't be covered, would I?

The phone has a 1 yr warranty regardless.

Just got a insurance replacement.. its running 1.85.. just rooted and unlocked the bootloader.. now since the wife went back to her iphone she gave me her x but its running the update.. might sell it..

They go by whatever is currently tagged to the account.

got mine from a AT&T service center and it's on 2.20.. took me a bit to have it exchange so doubtful they would do it again. HTC last week offered a repair (battery issue..) they did not offer an exchange + who the heck goes without a device for 7 - 10 business days

Asurion has all the device info for what you have insured i believe. But if you trade or buy or whatever, once you call at&t to have them change devices on that line the information also gets updated with asurion and the insurance continues on the same. Id say im about 96% on this so please correct me if im wrong

i'm using a Mac so I will have to wait until later in the week to root my phone. I have my upgrade but didn't want to use it as I think i will go with unsubsidized phones from here on out...

Just got a HOX today (returned my Moto Atrix HD) and checked that it has 1.85.

Ordered my HOX via AT&T call center on 8/24 and received on 8/31. Box was already opened and SIM card already installed. Fortunately, firmware was 1.85 so all they did was install the SIM. Already rooted, unlocked, and on my 3rd custom ROM. Props to Scotts ROMs.

Lucky people Just got mine today and 2.20...fml

Lucky. I already went through two S3s before getting my One X, so I'm not sure what else I can throw at AT&T at this point to justify them giving me another One X. And even then, I feel like my luck is such that I'll just get another 2.20 out of it.

Confirming their are still 1.85 hoxl out in the wild as of yesterday.
Completely shattered my screen in an accident yesterday (worse case i've ever seen on a phone and i've replaced many a shattered screen) costco agreed to replace it but I was worried the new one would come with 2.20 and was considering just buying a new lcd/digitizer for 130 online so I could keep root. Well I risked it and got the phone replaced and it came with 1.85. They guy at the kiosk tried to update it for me but I luckily warned him not to just before doing so.
It seems a lot of stores/kiosk like updating the phones before sending their owners home with them. Make sure you specifically insist they do not. I don't know how willing to listen employees at at&t stores will be but I do know most kiosks/3rd party stores/costco/etc won't give a **** though and kindly skip updating you to rootlessville

I ordered a white one off costcos wireless store and it came with 1.73
rooted and unlocked it right away so their is still hope for people within the 30 days still

One X taken off shelf due to lawsuit?

My One X got stolen yesterday (another story), so I went to ATT yesterday to replace it. Was told it was taken off the shelf due to the Apple/HTC lawsuit. Sales guy had no idea when that happened, only that it wouldnt let him sell me one.
He had no eta.
Anyone else have this issue? And why would ATT be involved in this unless their was an injunction?

Old news about the patent fight yes. AT&T not allowing sales of devices no. I got my One X replaced on Monday for a screen issue. They had no issue replacing or selling the One X.

yeah i actualy got mine the day after all the lawsuit stuff was happening. I work for sprint and know the evo lte got pushed back about 2 weeks but my one x was no problem to get.
When I went to get my HTC One X, which was a couple days after the lawsuit was announced, no one in the store even knew that there was a lawsuit going on.
I was in my local corporate AT&T store yesterday exchanging my HOX because the bottom of the case started to separate from the glass. They still had stock and were selling them.

It's like that at a couple stores around me too, it amazes me that they aren't educated on these matters but in some instances I think they are "trained" to tell unaware customers a different story. Would the average user even know anything about the ITC and/or patent laws?
From what I have heard they have stopped selling it in the non-LTE markets.
I just calle my local store in Asheville N.C. where I purchased mine and they still sell it..it's non lte area so idk

I've tried to exchange my phone in the last week but my local store and apparently every other store in i'm city are all out of stock. I was forwarded to the warranty repair center who admitted to the hold up from customs and placed a note on my account extending my 30 days return until my local store receives more in stock. I was told to check Monday, though with that being Labor Day i do expect it then either.
It's an import ban, not a stop sale. Customs held them up. A stop sale would require court intervention. There's no reason other than confusion for those in the country already not to be sold.
I convinced a friend to switch from iphone to one x after he saw mine. He called up AT&T and tried to order. The guy asked him if he was talking about vivid because that's the only thing that was coming up in his system.
Walked into an AT&T store on Monday and bought one no problem. They had several of each color in stock.

Why would that be? Is that going to be a general rule for them now or is it somehow related to the ban?
HOX discontinued!!
I called in and just got off the phone with a att warenty and sales department about getting a phone replaced because the loud speaker quit. after an hour and half on the phone the lady finally came back and told me that this phone is as of now discontinued, and was told to pick out a different phone and they would replace it with it. I asked how long it would be till they recieved more and I would wait till then, well after being switched to a supervisor I was informed that AT&T would not be selling the HOX again, and in no way could it be replaced.
my advise is to be carefull with your phone. I am going to contact HTC and see if there is any way to get it fixed or replaced directly through them.
What the?! Can anybody else confirm this? If this is true I wonder what it will do to the support of this phone by HTC?

Exchanged my AT&T One X today, the difference is night and day!

I have been posting here a little since getting my HTC One X (S4), mostly a little negative as I had been having bad battery and mostly bad reception (which lead to bad battery). I got it on 5/6 and even had the SIM card replaced thinking that was the issue. Data speeds were horrible (I'm in a "4g" area only, no LTE) and would be lucky if I got 1Mbps.
So today I went to Radio Shack and got it replaced. Holy Cow! I just got 3.75Mbps at home, where the most I ever got was just over 1Mbps on the defective one. Went to the gas station, speeds were still great and even in the movie theater I got a solid 2Mbps. My big test will be tonight to see if it still switches to EDGE at night as the old one always did.
TL;DR: If you think you have a defective unit with bad reception/battery, go replace it! And keep replacing it until you're satisfied!

Couldn't you guys who got it from AT&T return it and get it from somewhere else?
I'm not sure how that return policy works, like do you get your "upgrade" back if you return the phone? Couldn't you then just keep returning phones every 29 days and always have the latest and greatest? lol

Problem is that they're greedy and want restocking fee regardless of exchange or return. So now it doesn't make sense to exchange. Return it and buy the other one.
It's not being sneaky or cheap. ATT just has a greedy, bad business practice.
Bought a 3gs and exchanged it for the HOX. HOX was bad took it back literally a day or two later. They said too bad. No exchange. I had to go through warranty repair. HTC was shocked that my phone was purchased days before and they sent me to them for an exchange instead of doing so in store.
Auto sales aren't even done that way anymore. Worst part was the store manager was giving me the whole ATT did me a courtesy speech for allowing the first exchange. What courtesy? I paid $35, got a different phone and it was defective and you told me to bad, talk to HTC.
While I'm on a roll I might as well keep going. Another issue I ran into during this ordeal was that I needed to return to the original place of purchase...what difference does it make if it was a corp. store?
Done with my rant...Sorry

wow, you have every right to rant after an experience like that! I'm sorry you got treated that way. Just to set the record straight, though, that's absolutely NOT company policy for AT&T corporate-owned stores. Since your One X was DOA, you should not have to pay a restocking fee. I worked for AT&T Retail until a couple weeks ago, and we wouldn't have done that... sounds like you ran up against greedy, bad people.
Oh yeah, and it doesn't master where you return it. As long as it's a corporate store. Are you sure the second place wasn't an authorized retailer? Either that, or they only had one or two left in stock.
Sent from my HTC One X
When dealing with att, its always a good practice to deal with corporate stores only. And that is sometimes hard to tell the difference...99% of the corporate stores will do the right thing..when buying phones I use best buy because they are usually a little cheaper but more so that they offer a $0 deductible warranty and a $30 buyback program where they offer you at least $125 in 2 Yeats towards purchase of new phone..can trade before 2 years and get even bigger credit towards new phone..$125 is just the least you will get...well worth the $30 l. Just my 2 cents..

The day I got it, I looked at mine and said...whoa.
The camera bezel isn't flush with the phone.
I'm NOT DUMB. I know it sticks out. - that's what the guy at AT&T said to me...what an idiot...
I mean like...where the bezel is set into the device, it sticks out a little.
Not to mention, I unlocked the device this morning to notice that the backlight of the recent apps button? Doesn't work anymore.
Needless to say, I emailed them about a possibly warranty replacement.
I LOVE the device - it's amazing! But...I don't think I can live with that when I paid for it outright...

whoa! that's crazy! I got mine at radio shack and they did tell me that I was "suppose" to go back to the store I bought it at, but that was 250 miles away so she did it anyways. but the craziest part was that I actually got about 20 bucks back because the price of the phone had gone down. I paid no restocking fee either. based on all the stories I don't think I'll ever buy straight from att.

AT&T Return Policy

My One X has 3-4 stuck pixels, some light bleed and backlight bleed. It has also had a couple episodes of massive overheating while the phone has been sitting on the table, not in use.
I called customer support last week about doing an exchange after trying a store first. Since the phone was out of stock, they put a note on my account that I had called within the 30 day period and told me to call back this week. Evidently they can't schedule the exchange for when the phone is back in stock.
I called back today, and after the obligatory 3-4 transfers coupled with repeating myself 3-4 times, I was told that I would be charged another $199, and refunded the initial $199 at some point after my return was received.
I can't really afford to pay another $199 for the time being.
Reading back over AT&T's 30 day policy, I don't see this extra charge being mentioned anywhere.
Has anyone else run into this? The AT&T store near me still does not have them back in stock, so I can't do an exchange there.
The 30 day policy does not seem to mention anything about being charged twice, but it does say that refunds on returned phones will be issued within two months. Two months is a long time, and seems unreasonable.
I'm just wondering if others have run into this when returning their phones, or if it's something that can be circumvented.
Nope I had the same issue and they replaced it right away no money or questions asked

It wasn't a big deal to me and I was OK with it. But, I can certainly understand how this can put someone in a pinch.
Also, I just got off the phone with AT&T and the DID make a notation on my account that once the phone is in stock, they will send out a new one since I am having issues with this phone too. So if you are in need of an exchange and the stores are out of stock, make sure you call and get the notes put into your account!!!
I'm no longer an at t customer but was for a long time.in my experience I always got the best service in corporate stores the authorized retailer won't always help out. It shouldn't cost out of pocket just billed to your account and refunded later.they send a return shipping box and tracking info for you to return the old one in.even the tape to close the box, lol.

Hi. I bought the AT&T HTC One X off Amazon. Can I still go to the AT&T store for an exchange since I noticed a dead pixel?
No but amazon has a 30 day return policy.
Does AT&T's "one exchange only" rule apply to phones with dead pixels? In other words, can you keep exchanging until you get a phone without dead pixels? It seems to be a huge problem on these phones. I'm afraid to go back to the store and piss off the manager by rejecting phone after phone due to dead pixels.
Nope within the first 30 days warranty exchanges can be done in store.
So are there a bunch of problems with this phone or are a lot of people complaining about nothing? I sear everyday I look on this phone someone's says they are returning their phone because of issues.
Call it what you want but if you have to return it more than once that's horrible quality.
Trying to make a decision if this is the right phone to get....
AT&T website says defective devices must be returned within 14 days of receiving the replacement. Ugghhh. I thought it was 30!
Do you think they'll still take it back? They have been sold out because of the holdup at customs.

No Sim error fixed Bunk phones from Verizon

Ok guys im sure a few of you have seen me posting in alot of the no sim error threads I can confirm that there is a bad batch of phones let me tell you what I did. Took the plunge and purchased a verizon phone full retail cause I kept thinking that the 3 refurbs they have sent me were just bunk phones guess what now I have no problems with my phone at all and im now calling verizon to see what they are gonna do about this wish me luck! So I recommend if verizon wants to send you a new phone it not be a refurb so my guess is a bad batch of phones that are gettting sent out.

Honestly, to stick it to Verizon, I'd do my best to take one of bad refurbs back and return it as your full retail phone, keeping the retail/good phone... get your money back. Shouldn't be too hard to swap it out, they're not that bright.
I wish I could but the one i just bought is a blue one and that one is white and I did talk to verizon they basically did nothing for me just gave me a free month of service. That is ok cause im just gonna sell this white one I have laying around it works in other areas just fine just not my house. And one thing and when i mentioned to the guy at the corporate store there must have been a bad batch of phones he basically admitted there was and they knew about it.

Your right the dev phones were on sales last week I forgot fail!
Just wanna point out phone is working like a charm no problems and I know someone mentioned that they got a new one and did not fix issue this phone came out of box with the g7 update so im guessing its pretty new.
Having the same issue; they replaced the SIM and no luck. I bought my wife one alongside mine and hers is fine. ... Same color even

yea but then when they go to match phones serial number to the box they would stick it to you.

Did you try flashing the latest modem in the development stickied section? That is supposed to fix the no sim error.

[Q] qhsusb_dload

Backstory: My friend gave me a One X that was his son's. His son tried to root it. Messed it up real bad, flashed EU versions of stuff and could only get into the bootloader. I fixed this for him about a month ago. His dad told me fix it, don't root it, he will just mess it up again. So i flashed stock RUU, this one I think, and gave it back. Sure enough he gives me the phone yesterday and his son tried to root it again. This time it is stuck in QHSUSB_DLOAD mode. I tired the the instructions at [WIP] Unbricking evita but no partitions ever showed. I got the Qualcomm. Inc. to show for about 2-3 seconds and spammed $ ls /dev/sd* then but nothing ever showed. Tried the tool at unlimited.io and the toolkit here and that didn't work either. They told me I can keep it if I can fix it. Well, I'd like to keep it since I'm using a MyTouch4G right now that is showing it's age. Any help?
I thinking it's toast now that it's on 2.20 and before I recovered it because it was on a much lower firmware.
Also, if it is bricked is there anyplace that can fix it for cheap? I don't really want to put money into this and if it's gonna cost me I'll prob just ebay it.
Happened to me a week ago. As of right now there is no way to save the device. Be patient as they are working on a fix for bricked 2.20 devices.
HTC will fix it for $130.
Hope I helped!

Damn, that's what I figured. I may just shelf this until a fix for 2.20 comes out.
Any good words on mobiletechvideos, com jtag repair?

They usually can get the job done...but send josh an email first explaining and ask him if its fixable
Called HTC on a whim, they said send it in and it's fully covered. I told them what the issue was and they said they'd take care of it and send it back to me, as long as there was no physical damage or water damage they'd fix it.
Seems too good to be true? I got a RMA # just in case.
It's worth the $5 to ship it to Texas. If your lucky that $5 will turn into a nice $250 phone in 1-2 weeks.

Kk, I'll box it up and ship it out. Figured the worst I would be out is $5, but wasn't sure about HTC's RMA process. The CS person was very very nice. Didn't really expect that.
Thanks guys!
They are good and fast over the phone, not sure about anything further than that but I wish you luck. Probably the best ROI you can get for $5 these days

On it's way back fixed up!
Very good news congrats!

At least the kid won't be able to brick it again.
Excellent.

Thanks for all your help on this too guys! Also, the HTC RMA process is pretty amazing btw.
Side note: I won't have to unlock this again will I? I think it was unlocked during his first try at rooting. I plan on using this on Tmobile to replace my myTouch 4g. Worse comes to worse go on Ebay and grab a unlock code for $5. Or maybe try ATT chat and get a code free, but I am not a customer so I don't think they'd give me a code.
If you do, the same unlock code should work. I don't think they would change the imei but not sure

Kk, I kept the old IMEI # so I'll check it when it comes and see if it's diff.
Keep us posted, according to my conversation with them they just repair and do not replace.

Bootloader unlock =| carrier unlock
In all likelihood, it was never carrier unlocked. You'll need to get an unlock code
AT&T might just give you the unlock code even though you are not a customer. Might be worth a call unless they want you to hold forever or jump through some silly hoops. Like you said the sim unlock codes online are all about $5 so not a huge investment to use it on t-mobile. If you need an older t-mobile sim card to cut down and use to get data working just PM me.

Every phone I have had to SIM unlock, AT&T asked if I was an acct holder.. Luckly I am, but still.. They might ask for an acct number.
It was a few months ago and I admit they don't seem extremely helpful especially when you tell them you are not a customer. Luckily my phone was s-off and sim unlocked so I never had to unlock it
