Chipping grey one s - dialaphone sh23 model - HTC One S

Any help would be appreciated:
Story so far, bought a contract phone from dialaphone (UK) for the one s. Ordered black at first, first one arrived and looked used/refurbished, had some marks and was the SH23 model. Read about the chipping issue so decided to return to DAP. Ordered a grey one as a replacement, the grey one came and same again looked refurb, DAP continued to say that no way they would sell a refurn etc etc, got compensation as was getting on for a month and still no phone. Finally receive another grey one, I insisted on S4 model and grey and new and sealed. This one wasn't new again as when I started the phone it booted straight into the OS without asking me language etc, even so it didnt have a mark on it and I couldnt be bothered with the hassle so I accepted it.
I decided to go onto HTCDEV and unlock bootloader and root, installed a couple of custom roms and in the end settled with Viper. Everything running great, had it for about 2 weeks now and just kept in my jeans pocked no keys and handling with kid gloves next thing I have noticed tiney spots like paint flaking in different areas on the back aluminium.
Now as I understand it because I have unlocked BL does this mean HTC will not accept this under warranty even though it has nothing to do with hardware as such and is a defective material issue??, also I was under the impression only the black one s's chipped has anyone else experienced this? Finally is there anyway I can remove tampered in BL and would HTC check to see if my IMEI number is logged? or should I try DAP again and see if they will exchange? problem with DAP is they now only have the black version and i'm afraid I may get the inferior S3 processor, also had both black and grey and I really prefer the grey.
Any help guys much appreciated, all I want is a phone without bloody chips and scratches as i'm a fussy bugger!! .

If you're lucky, HTC will accept it as it is hardware, not software.

As far as I know there haven't been chipping issues with the grey version, this is because it has a other coating treatment which makes this all most impossible. Thought its always possible there was made an error in the production.
From my experience (I worked for a mayor electronic store, service center) the software won't be an issue if the problem is hardware related. 99% of the time it will go to a local tech center (some kind of repair center for multiple brands) where it will be examined. If the hardware seems faulty and the warrenty will cover those damages they will likely dont worry about the current software. But I would certainly relock your bootloader and instal an RUU (stock firmware), so it will atleast seem untampered.
Keep in mind that if you do this and your warrenty wont cover it because of the unlocked bootloader, you will likely be charged for the examening and transportation costs which will be around 30-50 euro.

Sprint Touch Pro, bruise like dark spot on screen most visible with white background

So I go to my memory screen and all of a sudden out of the blue I notice this bruise like dark spot on my screen in the white area, I just got this phone, but I bought it off ebay and It was not there just a few hours ago. I am furious about this it just happened out of nowhere I didn't drop the phone I didn't knock it or anything I don't know what to do if I can send it on for warranty with HTC or if I have to get total protection with sprint and then send it in and how much is that going to be 50 or 100 dollar deductible ?
Any advice would be great, I seemed to have made it a bit smaller by rubbing hard on the screen but I cant get it to go away.
I have flashed my phone back to stock and relocked it and I am going to go to the sprint store today, but I am wondering do I need TEP ? I don't think I do cause its a defect not damage. And cause I bought this off ebay will sprint fix it for me its still within the 1 year warranty and obviously I will not tell them that but I am just wondering what experiences everyone else has had with warranty and repairs on there phones.

Dropped TP2! Verizon Options?

Hey everyone,
I need some help determining my options for getting a replacement Touch Pro 2. Last Saturday night I dropped the TP2 and it now has a large scrap on the bottom corner. Obviously this is frustrating since it’s only two weeks old! What are my options to receive a new one? I have paid for insurance over the last few years and have never lost or damaged a phone? Can I get a new one this way? What about swapping the phone within the 30day window? Would that work or will Verizon say I damaged the phone and they can’t swap it out? Is there anything I can do?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Is it really that easy? What will they say if the notice the scratched portion?
If you pay for TEP/insurance, user caused damage and loss is usually covered with a $85 deductable (for Verizon anyway, might be higher/lower for you).
$85 on top of the $489 I have already paid? I think I'm going to call and say the phone was scratched since day one and it really has been bothering me lately. Think that will work? They really won't know.
Now what would happen if they get the phone and notice not a small scratch but more of a scrap on the phone and think it's the user's fault? Would I be in trouble or will the phone just go right back to HTC to be refurbished?
Anyone else have any experience with something like this?
A scratch isn't really damage, do you expect the phone to be in pristine condition forever? It's wear and tear, I'd ignore it and not abuse the insurance system. What if you drop it and break it a month from now and want to exchange again? And then 8 months later? The insurance program has a limit, I'd not waste it on a scratch. Remember, how awesome your phone looks doesn't reflect on you as a person.
Sorry to hear about that but an option is to wait and see if you can get some sort of hardcase or silicone cover to hide the scrape/scratch
I haven't even activated mine yet until I can get at least some sort of protection on it.
Ok, here's an update. I just realized since i havent texted too much since the drop, the phone actually shuts off when I slide it open. Something happened. Now the mark isn't too bad, but if I send it back to Verizon saying it's a defect and they investigate the phone, will I be charged for two if they feel it was my fault?
These guys are smart enough to know a defect from a mishandling.
well, i am swapping mine out on Friday. I simply popped out the backlight button and said that it popped out when I was closing the keyboard. The only issue they had was getting the replacement into the store, since the stores dont have them yet. I got the phone about 2 weeks ago.
Why in the world would you have paid 489 for the phone? thats crazy. I would just do the exchange in store instead. Just go in and dont say anything about the blemish, just show them it shutting off. surely they will swap it out after ordering a replacement.
Two things. First I sold my Storm on Ebay for $250. So I actually only paid $239 without renewing a contract or anything.
I went to the store last night and had them take a look at it. They saw no evidence of damage (the mark is really minor, just frustrates me that it happened two weeks in!). They agreed and marked the account saying that the phone was defective. The manager actually searched online and said this is a known issue with both the Sprint and Verizon versions that there's something wrong with the ribbon connecting the two sliding pieces.
Anyway they have shipped me a replacement phone which should be here on Thursday. I'm not 100% convinced I actually damanged the phone. This issue was happening on Saturday night before the drop, I think.
I think I should be ok. Just frustrated I now need to reapply the Ghost Armor on a second phone!

[Q] Verizon Warranty Exchange

I have a Warranty dilemma that I thought maybe someone else has experienced.
I had a legitimate warranty issue, called Verizon and they sent out the new phone next day overnight shipping. Currently no exterior damage to the old phone. Literally the day that the new phone is supposed to be coming I dropped my old phone and even though I have never cracked a screen before fate would have it that I crack one the day I am supposed to be exchanging it.
First of all it is a very fine crack in one of the corners of the screen and you almost can’t even see it unless you really look closely or feel it with a fingernail. There is also a small scratch on the corner of the aluminum case now.
Option 1: Should I just send the old phone back anyways and hope that they don’t notice the crack in the screen and scratch on the case? I’ve read on this forum that all they do is see if the phone turns on and then they move on to the next one? Could result in paying the $229 fine for the phone being damaged.
Option 2: Call Verizon tell them what happened send back the phone they sent me and instead do a cracked phone replacement through HTC's website which supposedly does a onetime replacement phone for things like breaking your screen.
Option 3: Keep the new phone without sending back the old phone and hope they dont notice. I actually did this in the past once and they never charged or contacted me about it. Ive heard that they dont really track to see if you turn in the old phone but that was some time ago and I dont know if that is still the case.
Sure would be nice if they had a way to still do a warranty exchange for the legitimate issue while also paying them a lesser amount to pay for the cracked screen but I guess they dont have that option.

I've done plenty of warranty exchanges with Verizon. Best bet is to call Verizon and tell them what happened. Send the old one back. This way you don't feel guilty or have to lie about certain things. VZW won't care. Or another option is to just send it back without calling them. I'd advise you to call them though so they can note it in your account. They don't play as fast and loose as they used to. They sent me 2 HTC Thunderbolts and when I called they said I could sell one if I wanted to. It costs them a good amount of money per warranty exchange. That's why there is a $100 deductible now with the $10/mo warranty.

T-Mobile Z3... dropped/Best way to root new one/Backup old one/Insurance Claim

So I dropped my Z3 on some concrete last night....
Device works just fine but it's ugly. Will they accept the claim provided it's just cosmetic or should I lie and say it is done for? What pisses me off is not the money for the deductible... it's the countless hours I've spent customizing it.
So I'm going to file the insurance claim today. I would like to know the best way to backup my device so that I can restore as much onto the new one as possible. I had the dual backup installed but will never boot into it, maybe ill try to reinstall.
Then as far as the new device... what's the best way to root it? Should I take the update? I have blocked the sony updater on my existing one for fear of it breaking root.
Lastly will Assurant check to see if I rooted my old one? Should I unroot it prior to sending it back.
Thanks in advance for your advice. My big thing is I'm not sending this one in until I get an exact replacement and I can get that replacement rooted. If I can't do that I'll pay $200-300 to get it repaired.
I do not believe cosmetic issues are covered. Granted I did not have insurance (They backdated Jump for me after my 3 refurb so had insurance technically) when I did my exchanges with T-Mobile but they made it clear that cosmetic issues are not considered plus you technically physically damaged it and it was not a factory defect, Unless its affecting the usage of the phone they won't, unless I suppose any damage to the frame affected water proofing, you could make that case if true. In my case of severe light leak on a few of them I convinced them waterproofing was compromised (failed pressure test) so they agreed to replace.
Oh and by the way T-Mobile does not have any new Z3s nor any new ones coming in, you will get a refurb..... And boy does the repair center do a bad job, I had to send 4 refurbs in a row back recently because they had issues ranging from severe light bleed to missing paint patch in bezel which acts like an extra LED near lower speaker on 2 of them to a streak of hot/dead pixels on one....
So basically unless they can get you factory sealed one, you will have to test your luck with refurbs, though depending on how bad your damaged Z3 looks it may well be worth it lol.

Assurant always does refurbs, unless they don't have any they will give you a new one. It's at least a z3 they are sending, otherwise I'd tell to them to f*** off and I'd find a way to repair it.
I'm pissed that T-mobile doesn't carry anymore (some still available in stores). I think half the reason they don't sell is the salespeople at the mobile carriers and best buy are always pushing garbage samsung devices. If you go to Europe you can find accessories for any sony phone in any electronics store or airport shop. My friends in Canada say one in four in their group of friends have an Xperia. I have only seen one other out in the real world... and the individual was from Hong Kong.
I would rather purchase direct from Sony, but T-mobiles coverage is still spotty and I depend on wifi calling in some places I visit regularly.
Guy at T-Mobile said cosmetic is covered. The way I see it they'd probably prefer I pay $175 and get a device that's working just fine. I said the screen was cracked... but technically it's the glass on the back.
It's not T-Mobile's fault, they still sell the Z/Z1, reason they stopped sale of the Z3 is due to quality control issues and numerous returns. A rep told me that after I said I want a new one not any more defective refurbs. As I said I am on my 8th lol plus the 4-5 more (new) TMO store itself went through to get me my 4th so make it 10-12 total TMO sent back to Sony just for me...
Don't get me wrong I love the phone but needing that many returns is just ridiculous.....
The international version seems to have much better consistency in production and quality.
However honestly I'm glad I bought directly from T-Mobile they gave me immediate replacements for my first 4 (in Oct-Nov) which were new and 1 day shipping for the last 4 which were refurbs (recently). Sony support asked me to do a software reinstall to get rid of light leak from frame/glass where glue was clearly missing, facepalm. After that they said 3 week minimum turn around time for replacements. TMO reps seemed more knowledgeable.... They even offered to cancel my monthly phone cost and refeund tax if it happened again....
Well anyway, I hope you get a good replacement. Another idea is in the event you get a bad refurb, try to go through Sony and make them give you the international version instead.

As much as I liked the more squarish design of my z1s (though hated the silver accents)... my z3 seemed to be a much more quality device. Scared to try out this refurbed one. I'm charging it up and waiting until I find out the best means for rooting it. Hoping it's not a piece of crap. I remember a friend dropped my z1s, the replacement models vibrator would stop working.
Personally what upsets me most is the bootloaders that can't be unlocked and frustration with rooting. It's so easy on the international versions. And frankly while wifi calling is a nice feature it's a total load that I can't use it on any device and even more upsetting that it isn't compatible with third party messaging apps. I can't get mms to download over wifi calling with anything but that hideous bare bones stock messaging app.

Regardless it's good to speak to someone that has experience with this, albeit unfortunate experiences. Good luck.
Make sure to check it at night, and look for light bleed and also any LED like effect from missing paint on front glass (That I believe is due to a tool mark), saw this on 3 refurbs.
As I said earlier if it does have issues try the cross model exchange with Sony. I see no alternative devices lol, the Z3 is still the most well rounded device even with the new guys in town.

Welp, my Pixel finally had a catastrophic failure

Today about 2 hours after waking up, I unlocked my phone and noticed that a dime size dead-zone at the bottom left of the phone. My phone has been in a case and a glass screen protector since taking it out of the box and I have never (knock on wood) dropped it whatsoever. If I took it out of the case and screen protector you would think it is a brand new phone never used. So now I have this dead zone that will not recover regardless of countless remedies, so I contact Google support as I am a member of Google one because I pay for the 100 gigabyte cloud storage. I sent the representative Hey picture of the dead zone and to my surprise he told me he told me " do not worry about this at all, I will start an RMA for you immediately". I was extremely pleased with how this was handled, an hour after talking with him, my entire screen died. I no longer can use my phone at all. Thank god it will be here in two days!
So you'll only have to slum it with an old device for a day or two, sweet!
Never had a problem with Google RMA process, always the reason I buy direct, piece of mind
In the UK - Google do a great job with their phones too for RMA. They sort you out relatively well

Got the new device yesterday, apparently they are refurbished and I noticed a nice big strand of white lint in-between the camera glass right on top of the main shooter. Obviously got in there when Google did whatever they do to refurbish phones.
Contacted them and so far they are refusing to swap this one out. I understand it's a little nit picky but I paid $900 for a brand new phone, it had a defect and the replacement now has a defect. That aside, it's absolutely killing my OCD. Could you imagine having to look at that stupid little piece of lint for years to come? If they ultimately stick with not doing an RMA on this I'm either selling and going for a OnePlus 8 pro or possibly even attempting to remove the camera glass square to get that little fu**** out.

Just call them back and do a second warranty, let them know your experiencing new problems, or tell them you want to do a buyer's remorse return & they'll do it. I did a buyers remorse after I bought the my pixel 3 xl twice last year, once at 2 months & the other at 4 months, (That's where they give your your money back).. I called them for a day over & over but they did what I wanted. don't let Google tell you what's gonna happen you tell them
