Battery temperature never been cooler - HTC Sensation

Yesterday I installed Miui ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778870. And I was suprised how batery temperatura is low ...about 12C - 17C.

Is it actually cooler? Or just reporting as cooler?
Different kernels can often give different temperature reporting.
For example the kernel im using now is telling me the battery temp is 60 degrees Fahrenheit, which was impossible after the phone had been in a 78 degree room for hours.
I had previously been using a different version of that same kernel that told me 60 degrees when the phone felt like it was going to melt in my hand.
Same kernel, different versions, massively different temp reporting.

I tried play some heavy games and it still cool after 15 mins

Not trolling in the slightest mate. It's simple, like has been said already, if a battery is reporting temps lower then the ambient temperature the phone has been exposed to for some time, it's impossible for it to be lower.
This can be a kernel reporting incorrect temps, or also could be caused by an after-market battery (Anker etc).

Battery tips?

Hey guys...
So I see alot of threads on battery life issues, on multiple forums.
I figured itd be good to have a thread about how you guys are getting the phenomenal battery life.....
What apps and how are you using them to get the crazy hours?
i dont use apps..i use viperboys script floor is set @ 800..max voltage is -75mv underclocked @ 537..with heavy usage get over 16hrs

Battery temperature?

What's the bearable temperature for my Htc desire s ? My phone shows 44 to 47 degree ? I am on miui rom, no overclocking , heap size increases to 32.
Sometimes I fear that much heat might effect my phone. it may be damage my phone.
My friends battery temperature is always in between 32 - 36 degree.
or Is my battery faulty?

I´m using RC Mix 3D Rom and my temp is between 25 and 35. Maybe you have an background app running?
I an not using any app that uses that much battery, my battery consumption its very good. But temperature is very high.

try running a close to stock rom and then test again
Also what country do you live in, what's the normal room temperature?
You could also then try swapping your battery with your friends and then see what happens to both your and his temperatures to see if it's a battery, device or rom issue

Dude you are in Delhi isnt hot like hell there right now?
try to switch battery with friend and see whats goin on..
Thanks good suggestions. I am facing same problem in my stock ROM also. my battery voltage its 3987 mV.
Is it possible heap size can increase battery temperature and consumption?

My friend also from Delhi... But his battery temperature is very low as compared to me.
Today I will swap and will let you know the outcome.

Should only be 40+ when charging or playing games.

Battery Life test Results

I was pretty pleased with my results here, so I thought I'd share. This is done with both OC and UV and making use of the the 3500mah batt and with moderate/normal use.
I can get that on stock battery, you must play some games and leave your phone on full brightness at all times or something.

No, I play one game in particular, and I spend more time on the web on my phone than most people do on their computer. I could get that on a stock battery too, if I never actually used my phone Before the the changes I made, I was getting significantly less life. Especially with OC.
It looks like the moment you turn your screen on your battery life plummets.

Thats from Oc'ing to 1560 lol
It's more useful to post test results on a standard battery and standard voltages and clock speeds so others can compare. I've gotten 3 days on stock CM7 nightly before, it really depends on how much one uses their phone. The biggest clue to how a ROM or kernel affects battery is to look at the idle drain (maybe with data off too). It should be flat or with < 0.5%/hr drain.
Where'd you get the 3500 Mah battery you are using? I've been trying to find a decent maker for one.

HTC Sensation 4G CPU gets really hot.

My Sensation is running OrDroid 9.0.0 Sense 4.0 Rom. It gets warm/hot when using simple apps like facebook, messaging, Youtube, etc... I had this problem since last year too. I got my Sensation since August of last year.

Don't do gpu over clock then.. That will cool down your device a bit.. Also.. Try some under volting the kernel (there is a uv mod.. You can use that) .. It prevents heating a bit too

You should try that for yourself because not every device can handle every voltage decreasing the voltage makes that there is not so much electricity going trough the CPU you save battery and your battery is not overheating so fast

Mine did too with both stock and ARHD roms. Thought its the battery getting getting warm for the longest time but it turned out to be CPU/GPU. I'm using Viper S now and do not overclock CPU/GPU. Works well and heat is down significantly. Still gets warm occasionally (GPS, Browser, Google Now) but not as much and battery last longer.
I tried Vipers S Rom but everything ran VERY choppy and what govner do you recommend to get that cold GPU/CPu effect?

When you try different ROMs and have query ask in the right ROM forum. You'll have a better chance for a right answer.
There isn't a tremendous amount of things you can do to bring down the temperature significantly. As everyone said, under volting, and under clocking can do a little bit.
It isn't a big problem, because it shouldn't pass, from what I remember, 43-46 degrees Celsius. Of course it will vary with what your doing, playing games will make it hotter, especially if you are in a hot environment.
Don't worry too much about it.

[Q] Battery Life On Non-sense roms sucks on 3g!

Yes Another Battery Thread! I KNOW. SPAM. but well, not 100% Spam, But also reasonable.
I have a brand New Sensation XE, Proper S-OFF with all the Fun and Boogie-Woogies.
But Since going from Vipers ICS Roms, which i tried at first (but which ate too Much Ram, and I'm a AOSP Guy.)
To Cyanogen Mod 10.1, And on 3g my battery goes down in like, yes what, I guess an Hour. then its dead. is that Normal?
It wasn't as Terrible on sense. I just wonder? Any smart Android-Hero's to explain?

Damn Boi, I'll look into my 2450mha (said to work perfectly, and fit under original cover.) and Continue using CM.
I get 3 days easily on albino's cm10.1 aosp rom. With an banker battery.
So the ROM isn't the problem. We have hashed battery life questions to death in the ROM's development thread and the answer always comes back to user settings or faulty hardware, usually the battery is just old.
But battery life does NOT suck on all non sense ROMs. That is just bad information.

Good, Lets get You that Information then.
The device is an Fourteen month old Sensation XE, with that 17xx Battery.
I bought it two weeks ago Used but Just as new, Not even Tiny pocket scratches.
It was Pre-rooted and s-off using the Wiretrick by the Preowner.
Its now Running Albino's CM10.1, (03~05).
My CPU is Clocked at 15xxMhz and 398 Min I believe,
GPU's and stuff Aren't Changed. Its on the Ondemand Governor and SIO I/O Thingy.

I Go from Home Charged Everyday, with an HTC Certified dock,
I get from the countryside into the city and Jump onto 3g, the battery stays for a five minutes on "Charged" and jumps down to 95-80-7x and Finally 65 where it takes a little break, that goes in well, an half hour. Then i mostly get really Upset and angry at HTC and Cry out to my Friends with better phones telling how **** mine is, Now i'll get my replacement Batteries and see, I'll instantly report here how they all each Did.

Your battery is old. That's probably the problem. Use the Banker battery when you get it. That's the sollution. Also you are clocking the CPU pretty high. If you dont have a specific reason to run it at 1.5ghz as the max like gaming or something, back it off to like 1.2.

Yes. Its high.
If you have a specific need for it to be that high, go ahead. That's 1.5 is what the chip is designed for. It can handle it. At 1.7 you are pushing it pretty hard.
But those speeds won't do anything to improve the performance of everyday use like sending texts, making calls, or even in games like angry birds. Ifnyounplay more graphically intensive games, those speeds will be helpful. If you don't they are a waste of battery. Either way though they are using more battery at those speeds, whether you needs those speeds or not.
Backing it off to 1.2 will prevent the device from 'kicking on the afterburners' and dumping battery fast when its at max CPU. Again, if your performance suffers then this isn't the answer for you.
You will also want to use the on demand or badass governors to keep the clock speed regulated. An governor like Performance will keep the CPU running at top speed all the time. The phone will run great, but the battery will die in a hurry.

+1. If you take a look at the manual of your battery, it will say something like "500 recharge cycles over the life of the battery" (this is from the ANKER 1900mAh).. that's around 1,5 - 2 years of use. So depending on how often the previous owner of your Sensation charged the phone, the battery could be dead now.
New Battery
Instead of an "Anker" i got an Pisen Battery, said to have around 1780mha but actually is 1870. It works Perfectly and i get six hours screen on time now. it just still goes weird, and sometimes stays on 72 for long and 39 for long, but works just fine still. Just not a really reliable Percentage. I get to test 3g time tomorrow. Hopefully more than one a half hour and burning hands.
