Hey guys...
So I see alot of threads on battery life issues, on multiple forums.
I figured itd be good to have a thread about how you guys are getting the phenomenal battery life.....
What apps and how are you using them to get the crazy hours?

Which app??? is that all you are using? Are you rooted?
On bamf 1.6.3 remix with Imo's special 2.5 kernel and 1700 battery. Set to 1200 max and 24min inactivex. Check it.

exactly how would this run on the DC? I didn't know there were other kernels out for it.
send the dev a pm and ask how it works for other devices..hes very helpful.

16-20 hrs
I'm getting 16-22 hours of moderate usage. Downgraded and rooted. Now using Titanium to freeze all bloat. Always in 4G.
The cheap 1700 batts on Amazon are good. Running bamf ginger and gingeritis. With imo kernels I'm getting 14-18 hrs. Just gotta keep playing with the CPU settings.

can anyone recommend "the best" overclocking app for x10?
not sure if it matters, but im running [Cyanogen6.1.3]gingerbread[v01]
X10 cannot be overclocked yet.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
You can use setcpu but it wont overclock. We need custom kernel. So farr there's no custom kernel for x10.
But you can use setcpu to reduce the screenoff MHz. It might help to save more battery.

I wonder if it can underclock why it cant overclock whit Setcpu? ;o

because you need a custom kernel to increase the possible range of values... the underclocking value is already within the range of possible values

... And as on any phone overclock thread, never forget our devices are NOT AT ALL intented to do overclock.
Carefully check our CPU's internals, because you will probably make your phone very hot, unstable, battery sucker and useless - it will self-stops because of overheat.
Or try in your fridge, in North Pole, or build a watercooling system.
Did I mention your phone won't be as mobile as before ?
Just kidding, but seriously guys, overclocking phones is useless today. Few years ago, it was nice (as we got very low frequency), but now we have very powerful devices... Don't expect to overclock as you do with Core i7 or Pentium IV...
Would it work if i would be on baseband .58 which is the newest?

the baseband is just the radio of the phone, it has NOTHING to do with overclocking...
the kernel is what controls that
hmmm no overclocking available till custom kernel can be booted man
Droid Overclock is an app I ran across on the Market today with all sorts of nice features.
It may have been out for awile, I just didnt see it.
It costs $1.50. Very Nice App
Looks like it does alot more then setcpu
Oh yeah, I bought this app when I had my d2. Wasn't sure if it supported the incredible though and I just use the built in overclocking in CM.
Its a sweet app though and jrummy did a nice job with the interface.

Makes your processor operate at a faster speed, speeding up your phone. It kills your battery faster though.

Actually (What effects screen brightness and OC CPU have on battery) speeding up your cpu doesn't effect that battery as much as you think its very minimal. So overclock all you want
Does it harm your phone in any way?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
This actually looks a lot better than SetCPU. I like it.
If you overclock too high, to a incompatible setting, the phone will just go into a loop mode. The setting won't be stable.. it errors itself and can't correct it. So you need to scale it back down. Sorry if I don't know all the terms and such.. dinc's are fast just to begin with. I oc'd so I could try and get better benchmark scores. It worked and the phone was stable to where i could use it all the time problem free. I managed to get scores I could be.. once that happened I stopped clocking up, and started scaling back. Undervolting the system with a different kernel / governer setting will yield you the best battery life..

If I'm going to overclock my phone on cm7 what would be the best speed or should I just leave it and how do I freeze my blot wear
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Ive been using hellfirephoenix rom which is an offshoot of cm7 and i can overclock to 1.5 ghz easy, which is the max safe setting id say for everyday use. You also have to have a kernal which supports 1.5 ghz though such as faux123's kernals.
In order to freeze stuff i use AntTek which you can get on the market its very easy to use. Otherwise you can buy the full version of titanium backup i believe.
Use morfic's kernels. There is no max safe overclock, it's up to what your phone can handle. I am sitting comfortably at 1.6
I read you can use pimp my CPU to overclock but I can't find the app

Does overclocking have any downside to it? Like more battery drain or something?

less stability is the main issue if you OC too high. if you set the right profiles in setcpu you can actually get much better battery life.

Yes. But combined with undervolting I get better than stock battery life running at 1.6.

ive been screwing with chainfire 3d trying to get it running better, ive gotten it to be on the verge of playable but it could be better, im gonna tinker with it some more and see what i can come up with. thanks for the info though.

Off you are on a bml ROM (haven't cheeked out bare bonne so i don't know) you can flash lightning zap then adjust the governor settings... There are instructions on how to do so linked in the OP... That should smooth out fps refresh rate...

Im on the oc kernel so yeah i got that bad boy cranked up to 1400, it was my understanding that only ondemandx and smartass worked in regards to scaling on this particular kernel, but hey i'll try just about anything, if that makes a difference i will let you know.

Do you suppose id have better luck on a mtd rom in general? But ive installed lightning zap plenty of times, so i will give it a go and if i get something real smooth and playable i will report back how that came about. i appreciate all your work thanks.

Each phone is different, tweaks and such that improves your phone performance may not help the next phone. That is also why the game might be unplayable on your device. Also most newer roms have the various tweaks built in. So installing them twice can end up harming your performance.
I was in the same boat as OP. I used Gremlin Remover, and started from scratch, and now I'm getting decent performance from GTA. Still lags some. But not as bad as used to. Definately playable.
It works just fine for my wife.

Just checked this out! Fastest way to drain battery ever. My screen didn't go dark completely, it just dimmed down and stayed like that. Luckily this is a script run by Script Manager, and it's activated when you turn off the screen.
Seriously not recommended

Funny, it has been working fine for me. For anyone who doesn't use an app like setCPU and is on the OLD baseband this would be great. This on the NEW bb WITH a screen off profile is even better. It's still not pre-new base band like drain, but I don't wake up with a mostly drained battery. I just looked at faux's release notes and it sounds pretty tailored to the new bb, so I think I will see how his does alone.

Jarvis kernel already have this implemented
Excuse me folks but alot of people can't use the new faux kernel and Jarvis kernel isn't exactly stable on all phones niether, the guy is simply sharing something he found, what about Harsh, Morfic, etc??? This works wonderfully with morfics kernel on Cm7.2 stable even with undervolting, I get huge battery saving now, so be easy gentlemen
