Problem with phone shutting down randomly - HTC Sensation

I have a problem with my phone shutting down randomly sometimes when being used (usually when going online and halfway through the battery bar). After i turn on the phone again the battery would loose about 20% prior to the shut down. Any1 got a solution?

What ROM, kernel are you using? And what is the clocking on the kernel?

I've been using insert coin for awhile for awhile. It started happening a month after i updated to version 2.2. Then i tried using cyanogenmod 9 and it still happens. Then I switch back to insertcoin, but with version 2.3 and still the same thing.

what solutions did you tried until now ?
and did you care to search in q&a section ..there are lot of threads with the exact same random shutdown issues ...and the solutions were posted there..do a quick search in this q&a section and help yourselves

Thanks for the advise, but your suggestion are only for people who are new to the forum. Searching is the first thing I did. I mentioned above that did try changing rom into CM9 and that had the same results. I also checked if the battery is loose, but it wasn't. If there is a particular solution that I missed please point me to the thread.

see..i was about to give you the thread which solves battery loose connection ..thats why i said what solutions you tried ..if you have updated that in OP that would prevent people from posting the solutions that you already tried ..
now to the point ..reflash the firmware that you are using and see..as changing roms didnt solved your issue

Thunderbolt w/power plugged-in boots to recovery

This issue seems to go waaaay back. "An issue with CWR" is all I've found....
Anyone know of a fix? Searched and searched. Can't post on the TB dev forum yet...
thanks!

Its not really a very big deal. All you have to do when that happens is push the power button once more and it will just boot up

If you searched you would of found five threads on the TB forum alone about this
Its a HTC built thing in most HTC phones as a safeguard. What happens if you break the volume rocker? Well your screwed into getting into recovery ... Wait! U can force it into recovery by doing that

Search, I did. As I said I did. Answers I did not find.
I should have been more specific. I want to charge the TB with power off...
...and my phone is rooted. Perhaps it's not a bug w/ CWR after all... just a lovely safeguard...

Assuming you are rooted, since it doesn't happen on un-rooted Thunderbolts. As previously stated, hopefully it's just a matter of time and code to resolve it.
Yes, this was recycled from one of the other threads.

Ahhh. It's all in the search terms. I had originally spotted it in that very thread....then started searching under "bump charge" or some combo that didn't bring thread up. Various iterations of CWR, etc.......head.....feeling.......thick....today..
Thanks much for lead...
...and using fastboot will prevent going into recovery.

[Q] why dialer(phone+dialer storage) drains so much battery?

I have flashed so many custom ROMs and find the dailer mostly drains much battery. the dailer includes phone and dailer storage is always top 2 battery user in the battery statistic.
in fact, I just make a little calls during the whole day, less than 10 minutes.
who can help me?

You're right, this has been identified before and is mentioned in other threads within this forum, unfortunately no solution has yet been found yet as far as I'm aware.
The dialer is always kept in memory. The app doesn't get killed. Maybe this is the reason.

I have tried to remove the stock dailer app(htcdialer.app in system/app) and replace with third-part dailer app such as smartdailer. It works well, but the entire dailer still drains so much battery life.
I have no idea.
Didn't want to open a new thread since a found this one, wanted to reactivate it maybe someone had found a solution.
After some hours of google, xda and other forum i didn't find a solution.
Many users mentioned that this issue appeared after the 2.3 Android update.
Even after switching off all the 3 features connected to the proximity sensor the Dialer is still there.
Hopeing for a solution from a brilliant mind here.
Tryed on Runny, Virtuos, Endymion....on all the same issue.
Thanks

Tried cyanogenmod? I don't get problems with the dialer, but then again I don't use it very often

You may need to try BROWSING the sections, too. It's been asked a million times.
Non-rom specific touchscreen driver issue it is suspected.
Some people experience it, some don't.
I, for one, haven't, but many people have.
well when you put the topic of the thread it gives you some similar options to your problem and no one of the options was even close to my request so thats why i did it.. can you give the link where was asked the same question as me please?
thank you
Bumb...........!!
Will the touchscreen driver also make parts of the screen non responsive randomly? I am having that happen to me and wondering if I should try and exchange it.
Running Cm7 nightly in case thatd help
I've had this problem on multiple roms.
I've had this issue on multiple roms as well it's not horrible at all though just have to touch it a second time. the weird thing is I can pretty much predict it for example when scrolling through my apps in tibu it gets stuck at the same spot every time. and also the xda app on the first scroll. it's been discussed many times but I'll throw it out there again. NOT A ROM ISSUE, HTC ISSUE. MANY PHONES ARE AFFECTED. don't stress over it

[Q] Phone turning off randomly twice a day using Android Revolution 1.1.7

Here we go:
As of update 1.1.7 of mike1986's Android Revolution ROM I experienced a strange issue:
My phone just randomly turns off at least two times a day. I'm not talking about a reproduceable error, since my phone only showed an unresponsive black screen (waking it up by pressing the power button didn't work, too), when I was carrying it in my pocket. I thought at first it was an SOD issue like with the early Android builds for the HD2. But today my phone just literally turned off before my own eyes while I was checking my mail. I wasn't even able to turn it on anymore without performing a battery pull. I was confronted with this issue the third time just a couple of minutes ago. I even did a full wipe and reflashed the ROM (I know, I'm just a Junior Member, but trust me, I know how to this properly), before this happened - again.
Should I just revert to an older version of the ROM or wait for an update? I don't want to just sit around and do nothing about it.
Any help is much appreciated!
Please search the Android Revolution Thread before posting next time.
A lot of people are having these issues. Just install a different kernel and that should fix the problem or go back to 1.1.5 or 1.1.6. I'm waiting for 1.1.8

Hi,
This is a kernel issue.
Try flashing the kernel in my sig using CWM.

I did. Thing is, I'm still a Junior Member, so I'm not allowed to post the experience I had or ask questions about it. I know, it's a ROM-specific question which belongs in the thread of the aforementioned ROM, but asking someone out of the to post it for me would have been about just as much annoying. Still, I'm sorry.
Still, it seemed somehow that no one reported the exact situation, as there were different solutions proposed. But - as I said - I couldn't even add anything to the discussion, since I'm not allowed.
I hope, it didn't disturb you too much.
Regards
Thanks for the quick (and hopefully helpful) reply.
I have to wait and see, if it works for me, but if you say so, there must be something true about it.
Anyway, thanks again!
Regards
EDIT: The UI runs pretty smoothly now and my WIFI and mobile data are not lagging anymore. It MUST have been the kernel.

Hi,
It worked for me,and I've had no black screens since.
Yes, reverting to RC Mix 2.3 solves many glitches IMO. Should do the trick while waiting for a better version.

With all the great info you provided I am sure someone will be able to help
well i read earlier that someone had problems with the android.process.media has stopped... thats the problem about after a minute of it pooping up my phone just resets. no need to be a **** about it
Without info you aren't going to get any good help. A rebooting phone could be caused by many issues. So far you have given us an error. This is still very little to go on. And now since you resorted to name calling I doubt you will get much help.

That error could be cause by no less then 100 different things. Welcome to a development site. You have to provide all the needed info before we can help. With the info you gave me I would suggest to flash to a stock rom and stay there until you understand a little bit more about what your doing. I see no rom, radio, ril, mods, recovery, it flashing info at all.

That's what i was thinking, but i was accused of flaming by a guy in the Captivate forums today, so i bit my tongue
i just flashed the absolution rom and it again crashed on me and i did wipe the cache and system before installing the custom rom.
and it reboots in the middle of typing or on standby >.< it is quite irritating to be honest
Rebooting
This is caused with a bad flash, radio/ril mismatch, and other programs that have been reinstalled from a backup. I would also suggest re-flashing to a stock rom, and see if it still does it, and if not I would look at getting a new rom. You also can reinstall the one you are running and then add the apps back one at a time to see if it is generated by them. Also I suggest going back to the dev thread and make sure you have the correct radio-ril combo. Search-Research and you will find the root cause.

The absolution Rom was having some issues with battery and themes tweaks in the absolution tools. If you happened to change any of those that is probably the problem.
Random Reboot
well instead of starting a new thread I'll tap onto this one. I am also experiencing random reboots. My phone will reboot regardless if you are using it or not.The reboots can be as far apart as a couple of days or as frequent as 4 times a day. I am running a stock Gingerbread OS.(AT&T) The phone is not rooted. The phone is as stock as possible. The only apps on the phone are the ones that are pre-loaded by AT&T. I have changed the battery with a new OEM HTC battery. I replaced the SD card. I have also replaced the battery door.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Its the battery. I had mine reboot at 96% and 48%. Replace the battery.
