[7.1.2 NOUGAT][Q/A] NOUGAT for the Galaxy SL - Q/A - DISCUSSION THREAD - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

NOUGAT 7.1.2 Port for the Galaxy SLHowdy y'all.
Android 7.1.2 Nougat has been ported to the Galaxy SL.
Developers work on these projects on their free time! They are not forced to work on this so be nice and respect them.
The development thread is located here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-sl/development/rom-omnirom-7-1-2-samsung-galaxy-sl-t3602461.
Download links can be found in the development thread above, however;
Please keep all discussions not related to development here, this helps the developer focus and avoid common questions that can be answered by other members.
To quote Technohacker1995:
Things to take a note of
This ROM is still a Work In Progress. As such, some features do not work, as listed ahead
GApps is NOT RECOMMENDED as there is very low amount of /system partition space
Make sure you keep a backup of your files. If flashing from stock, this WILL wipe every partition
This ROM does not come with CJK fonts to make it fit in the /system partition. Therefore, Chinese text rendering will be broken
This ROM does not come with AOSP WebView or Chromium. They will be offered separately
This ROM is not rooted. Flash a root zip manually.
Steps to flash
Reboot to Recovery.
Wipe Data / Factory Reset.
Select the ROM zip from your SD Card and flash.
Reboot
Current port is based on Omni ROM, this will be changed to LineageOS soon.
All credit is given to Technohacker1995, and dhiru.

Known Issues
To quote Technohacker1995,
Things that work:
WiFi
Bluetooth
Internal storage
Vibrator control
Initial Setup
Button backlight
Things that are WIP
RIL: Broken on Lineage
IMEI baseband
Carrier and signal strength was detected on Omni
Things that are broken:
GPS: Has a dependency on RIL
Camera2: Crashes on taking a picture
FM: Had to be disabled. Will be enabled sooner or later
Anything not explicitly stated to work
*The Google Apps package may cause some issues because of limited space, pick a very slim gapps package.

I am looking at the code that dhiru is currently putting on github.

Also, the other thread's op is so plain, never updates, has no info on cm10.

If u want to create new threads then as u wish. Anyway just for information that Dhiru is able to boot JB whose screenshot I have attached in here. Many things are not wotking which were wotking in cm9. So thats why he has not released yet in public. These updates he puts on facebook but I never post those things here. Because noobs will just ruin the whole thread by asking ETA. Dhiru is working on new hardware drivers released by TI sources which will improve JB UI.
I hope JB discussion will remain in this thread only. If noobs start to flood cm9 development thread then really I am going to report about those silly noobs to moderators.

I already know that he got it to boot before, this thread is basically a discussion thread to actually reduce noob spam volume, the other thread doesn't include anything really, and is out dated.
See the github? changes in the last hours, that's what i am covering here.
In this thread, let them spam till tomorrow, it's the general section and there's no harm in clicking the 'report' button

is this really gonna come ? this version would be really super .. and im eagerly waiting for it

The post has been created!! Alpha 1!

Seems I'll have to flash the ROM twice, since I'm on DDLF2...

Can someone tell me how to get back to stock 2.3.6?
Full Flash with kpe?
Sent from my GT-I9003 using xda app-developers app

As this is in earliest alpha phase, will surely need to revert back to CM9 after testing, so for that will we need to start from KPE things or directly CM9 can be flashed ??

[Q] Simply Honey Revolution 5.1 on SGS

I've got some questions regarding the install documentation of Simply Honey 5.1 Revolution for SGS ROM
Install Instructions Coming From Froyo OR ECLAIR(CM7/MIUI ODIN TO STOCK FIRST)
First Question regarding CM7 - Does this include CM7.1 as well? The example outside the parenthesis says Froyo or Eclair - CM7 is GB so this is not clear
- 1. Disable any Lagfix.
- 2.Download - xxx LINK REMOVED xxx This is the light version with hardly any apps and only one keyboard and 4 lock screens.
- 3. Flash via ODIN. USE 512PIT FILE.
- 4. Let phone boot. Wait 15 minutes and reboot.
- 5. Enjoy. You may now proceed to the MediumOR Large.
What is the difference between medium and large? Where are these files? I see a Light and Full but nothing else.
[/SIZE]
Install Instructions
Coming from Any Gingerbread Rom (If bootloaders aren't installed or you have trouble follow steps above.)
CM7 issue listed above. Any GB rom sounds like any - including CM7 this adds to the confusion of what will/won't work here.
1. You must first be running a Gingerbread rom (Doesn't matter Lindroid, Rainbows, your cousins top secret GB rom.) If you are not then please follow instructions above.
2. Place SimplyHoney5Beta1.zip on your SD card
Filename is out of date. Please link new file or list correct filename. If the ROM is out of Beta, the filename in the instructsions should reflect this.
3. Use rom manager or flash through recovery.
4. Let phone boot. Wait 15 minutes and reboot.
5. Enjoy
The new script is wipe for who come from SH <3.3 and from Froyo/GB!
It doesn't do wipe if you're running SH 3.5+ ROMs! Very Simple and automatic!
I've called it the "Anti-Noob" Script!
ONLY FOR CWM VERSIONS!! ODIN VERSIONS ALWAYS DO WIPE!!
Downloads CWM Full Roms
Simply Honey 5.1 Final
Light: xxx LINK REMOVED xxx 5 Locks Screens/ Modify Power Control Menu Options
Full: xxx LINK REMOVED xxx 10 Lock Screens
What is the purpose of Update1? Should this be flashed after Full? Is it flashed through CWM recovery? Some additional information here might be helpful. It is linked but no indication of why or when one would use it.
- Update1 - Gallery3D, Polaris Office, SNS Account -
xxx LINK REMOVED xxx
Is this section below a second set of instructions - you seem to list a If you have problems section above; however this one is more comprehensive. I'm not sure which one to follow if I have problems.
HOW TO
The anti-noob install script is a double edge sword so to speak. On one hand it is convinient as it doesn't do a wipe install if already on Simply Honey 3.5 and up. On the other some data needs to occasionally be wiped. That said if you experience ANY problem please follow the steps below.
1. Force Close of certain apps...go to settings/applications/manage applications/all and clear data of the offending app.
If that doesn't work then use Tiatnium backup to wipe data and uninstall the app (as long as it's not a system app such as phone or contacts or settings, you get the picture. Now you are free to re-install the app.)
2. The next step is to try and re-install the rom. Boot into recovery and select install from SD. After it's done and you reboot give it the 15 minutes. Now try again to recreate the original problem.
3. If the problem persists then boot recovery and wipe data factory reset and re-install the rom.
4. Problem still there then ODIN to stock (Stock ROM recommendation?)with repartition, ODIN the Simply3.8 Odin/Heim package. After rebooting boot into recovery and install the latest release of Simply Honey.
If these instructions are still useful, please link to SH 3.8 Odin/Heim package pls.
5. If all else has failed make a backup of everything you want saved to your computer. Boot recovery and go to mounts and storage and select format SD. After it's done reinstall Simply Honey's latest release.
6. If your problem still remains after doing all of this or just the last step then I suggest finding another rom as this one may not be for you.
I made an attempt to convert from CM7.1 this weekend; it wasn't clear what was going wrong but I couldn't get SH 5.1 to load properly. I tried to Odin the SimplyHoney 5.1 light version as per the first group of instructions, however, it was unclear whether I needed to repartition or not. the phone began the robot voice indicating partitions were not correct. I odin'd back to stock and reflashed CM7 with no problems.
Please understand I'm not trying to be critical, and I have rooted/flashed a number of phones over the years. Although I've been a fan of CM in the past, it's absolutely not where it needs to be on the Galaxy S/Vibrant and the Nightlies are not getting there fast enough. After reading the settings/features and positive comments for this ROM I'd really like to try it out, but the vague instructions and lack of links are not making this process easier.
If one of the developers can answer some of these questions, I'd be willing to assist writing documentation for this and future SH releases.

Galaxy SL I9003 CyanogenMod7 Q&A

Galaxy SL I9003 CyanogenMod7 Q&A
The only rule of CyanogenMod: you don't ask for ETAs. You install, your warranty is void.
Warning : Not for new users, flash this build only if you know what you are doing !!!
Hello Everybody..
I made this thread is ONLY for Question & Answer for Galaxy SL i9003 CyanogenMod 7.1.0 development.
Galaxy SL i9003 of CyanogenMod7 developer a.k.a Codeworkx is still working on this CM7 rom and please do not go off the topic in there. He's working alone and cannot answer all your question.
This is the thread to get know about CyanogenMod7 on Galaxy SL i9003
[WIP][ROM][2.3.7][GWK74] CyanogenMod 7 for Samsung Galaxy SL
Anything about your question & answer, you SHOULD post here.
FAQ (Please Read!!)
Q: Can I flash over a previous version of CM7?
A: If updating from an already CM7 running SGSL phone, just flash the latest update zip file as it contains all the fixes from previous updates.
Q: I just installed and I don't see the Marketplace, cannot see GMail, cannot sync Contacts.
Q: I just installed and I don't see any Google Apps.
A: You need to install the Google apps.
Q: I restored from Titanium Backup but my applications are not working
A: Do not restore system data, only restore application+user data. CM7 uses new system data and if you restore on top of it, things will not work.
Q: My battery life is simply awful, any tips?
A: Wi-Fi, bluetooth, and GPS are major battery killers. Wi-Fi and bluetooth are particularly hungry, so turn them off when you don't need them.
Q: The phone booted but I'm not getting any signal, what gives?
Q: My phone takes a few minutes to establish a 3g signal after I turn it on, what gives?
A: Known issue with polling when staring up the network. Put the phone to sleep by pressing the power button and waking it up a few times and it will usually come up with a signal.
Q: I lost my SMSC information, how to I get it back?
A: Follow these steps to restore.
Q: When will Voodoo sound/color/sharpness be integrated?
A: Maybe some parts will be integrated someday, but there some UNSUPPORTED kernels available on the threads that do this already. Please direct any issues related to these to the appropriate developers, not us.
Q: Your notification toggles are different than mine, how can I change them?
A: Go into Settings, CyanogenMod Settings, Interface, Notification power widget, Widget buttons
Q: I really miss the accurate battery mods, can I flash these?
A: No, but you can go into Settings, CyanogenMod Settings, Interface, Status bar tweaks, "Battery percentage"
Q: Where can I get themes for this?
A: A quick search for "theme engine" on the market will produce a number of results, but there are some in the general Android Themes section
Q: Can I use the video player/music player/contacts/phone/launcher from a Samsung ROM?
A: No, anything hooking into Samsung's framework will not work on this ROM, there are plenty of alternatives in the market.
Q: How do I go back to a Samsung stock ROM?
A: The easiest way is to go back to stock using Odin and flashing a full firmware (including PIT file) with repartition checked (Odin One-Click does this by default on Captivate)
Q: Can I use ROM Manager to install or back up this ROM?
A: Yes. (not applicable at this time)
Q: Why can't I play .avi or .mkv files? They worked fine with Samsung's ROM.
A: Due to codec licensing issues, this can't be provided out of the box. Several apps from the marketplace should be able to replicate this feature (such as RockPlayer)
Q: Can I use another kernel like CF-Root with this?
A: MAYBE, but you have to make sure it is compatible. We do not support any kernels except the one we install.
Q: GTalk doesn't work with FFC?
A: We can either have a fully fixed camera without gtalk video chat support (samsung libcamera)
or we can have a buggy camera with gtalk video chat support (opensource libcamera). We went with the fully working camera without GTalk FFC support. Once we have updated libs from Samsung for camera, it'll work.
Q: I encountered a bug, how do I find out if it's known and where can I report it?
A: You can look through the issue tracker here. If you do not see your issue, please report it. If someone else has it, please star it (but please do not file "Me too!" reports). Try to also attach the logcat output and last_kmsg to the bug report by:
Code:
desktop$ adb logcat > logcat.txt
desktop$ adb shell
# cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg (only if you had a crash/reboot)
# dmesg > /sdcard/dmesg.txt
# exit
desktop$ adb pull /sdcard/last_kmsg .
desktop$ adb pull /sdcard/dmesg.txt .
desktop$
Attach the logcat.txt and last_kmsg files to the bug report. Of course, you need to have the android SDK installed to do this. Use this to paste the bug:- http://pastebin.com/
Thank you. Im just helping
You are right. This is good topic I think!

But he said "ROOT first" you mean the CWM of codeworkx is Pre-rooted?..
I tried that procedure also, I Flash KPE, KPM and Flash Codeworkx CWM, but no CWM icon in application list? How I can access CWM?
was thinking abt a creating such thread then i see this..
how abt adding "bug reports" to the title?
also add in ur op that the thread is only meant for members who wish to know current state of cm7 b4 installing it.
N mention not to complain abt bugs demanding to get them solved. only mention them. ur getting my point...
bcoz many will be afraid to flash it, includes me, cause we dont want the phone to screw up during work!!
n also add "codeworkx is not permitted to visit the thread"
OP UPDATE! thanks
use 3 COMBO button!
volume up + home button and then power button
then you will see 1st boot
count 1 2 3
release home button and power button..
you will see recovery..
@AmirolAhmad : Thanks for the thread, bro. really useful FAQ there.
indeed, we all need this thread to keep the original CM7 development thread stay clean.

your device doesn't need to be rooted first.
just flash Codeworkx Kernel over xxkpm, then install CM7 zip file via *CWM.
the CM7 is pre-rooted.

*you can always access CWM by shut down the device then press 3-combination buttons (volume up + home + power), just as usual.

In that case, TiB has an option to "create an update.zip". It basically creates a flashable zip which you can use to install TiB onto your device through CWM without the need for the market. Try that.

Procedure to update Samsung Galaxy Fit S5670 with Cyanogen Mod Gingerbread 2.3.7 ROM:
For Simplicity We Have Divided This Article in 2 Simple Steps.
Step 1: Clock Work MOD Installation
First up you need to download the beni_cwm-5_ext4_v2.tar & odin+beni.ops.zip.Extract the files and Find Odin 4.38.exe And BENI_v1.0.ops in your Extracted Folder.
Now, Switch off Your Fit And Enter into Download Mode By Pressing Power+Menu Button+Volume Down Button Until Downloading Mode Appears.Open S5670_Odin_Multi_Downloader_v4.38.exe.Place BENI_v1.0.ops on OPS tab.Check the One Package Option.Place beni_cwm-5_ext4_v2.tar on One Package tab.Connect the device to PC which you have put in Downloading Mode.Press Start and wait for flashing process is finished.
Step 2: Installation of Cyanogen Mod 7.2 RC6 ROM
First up you need to download Zip file which is mentioned below in your computer
CyanogenMod 7.2 RC6 For Galaxy Fit.zip
Google Apps.zip
Now, once you are done with downloading the above files in your computer, you need to now copy the files in your phone and ensure that you are not placing these file deep into the phone. Please note that you should not modify or rename the files which you have downloaded or else there is a high probability that the file would not be supported.
After this Enter in Recovery Mode by Holding Power Off + Menu Button Until Recovery Mode Appears.
In the recovery mode, you will have to choose “choose zip from SD”. Now, from the list of files and paths you will need to first select the file which is named as “Samsung-Galaxy-Fit-CM7.2-RC6.zip” (or which You Have Copied to SD Earlier). Ensure that you select the file properly.
Now, as soon as the process is over.Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset And Wipe Cache Partition.Again Select “choose zip from SD”and Select “gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip” which You Have downloaded Earlier. After All Done Select “Reboot System Now”.
So, There You Go as soon as the phone is rebooted you will see that the firmware is updated with the latest version of Cyanogen mod 7.2 RC6 ROM Gingerbread 2.3.7. Let Me know in the comments section just in case if you face any issues as I will try My level best to sort out the Issue.

About installing custom ROM

Hi guys,
I've created this topic, because I have some questions, I'm new at android. I want to install a custom ROM(CyanogenMod 9.1) and want to make sure I'll do everything right. Here is the installation instructions:
- Make sure you're running a proper working ClockworkMod-Recovery
- Copy GApps and CM9 ZIPs to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash CM9 zip from SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from SDCard
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your device will be stuck at boot)
- Reboot
- Don't restore data using Titanium Backup! they might cause FC's
- Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible!
Click to collapse
1. When I go to Recovery mode, it shows "Pico CMW-Based Recovery v5.0.2" and below it shows "Pico recovery by bbs.anzhi.com Ext(2, 3, 4) support by Yannou90". Am I running proper working ClockworkMod-Recovery? I get it from this rooting tutorial.
2. Saying "Flash CM9 zip from SDCard" it means "install CM9 zip from SDCard"(because in recovery mode there is "install zip from sdcard", nothing about flashing)?
3. How can I do "DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET"? Just simply choose "wipe data/factory reset" option from recovery mode?
4. After installing CM9 ROM, will it support overclocking? Or I'll have to install another kernel? If I'll have to, then which kernel should I install?
Thanks a lot. I know, very stupid questions, but please answer them .
1 From what I understand the recovery that you have installed derives from original cmw. Do not worry it will work fine
2 Yes, it means "install zip from sd card"
3 Go to wipe data/factory reset and confirm
4 Overclocking depends on the kernel you have installed, not the rom. Usually, the default cm kernel has overclocking (however, be sure to check this by going to settings in the rom)

Thanks. I knew that "Overclocking depends on the kernel you have installed", so kernel is in rom(isn't it?). Two more questions:
1. There was mentioned "- Don't restore data using Titanium Backup! they might cause FC's", so how can I do that anyway? Maybe use another application, so which should I use?
2. How can I backup my current ROM? So if I'll do something wrong, I'll just simply install stock ROM(which I was backuped).
All android roms have a kernel. It is a fundamental component for the operating system
1 Regarding the backup, there are two great programs: MyBackup ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wMiwiY29tLnJlcndhcmUuYW5kcm9pZC5NeUJhY2t1cCJd) and rom toolbox (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolbox&hl=it)
2 You can do a nandroid backup from recovery ("backup and restore")
Thanks. I need fast reply, which Gapps should I download from there? The one with version "CyanogenMod 9.0.x"? I don't know, because I'm going to install 9.1 version, but there isn't 9.1 version.
EDIT: found a topic, downloaded a CyanogenMod 9.0.x version...
Both cm9 and cm9.1 are based on the same system version (4.0.4) so the gapps for 9.0 will work fine on 9.1

Thanks, but I've found solution. I think the last question, I've successfully installed CM9 ROM and I want to overclock CPU. Using the original kernel, max clock speed is 600Mhz(I'm using setCPU), so it looks like default CM9 kernel doesn't support overclocking. There is two kernels, which support overclocking(first, second). So which one should I choose(I think Cranium Kernel will be better decision)? And how can I know what will be max clock speed on Cranium Kernel?
And does
High undervolting- 600 Mhz now runs @ the same voltage as 480 Mhz,480 Mhz-> 500 Mhz @same voltage, 320 Mhz->340 Mhz @same voltage --> Better performance with better battery!
Click to collapse
means, that if I'll make the clock speed lower, it won't save battery?
Thanks. I know, stupid questions...
The second one is for Gingerbread Sense Rom, you should install the first one

If you have problem with the kernel, reflash the rom and gapps without make wipe
Okay, I want to install this kernel, but I don't really understand the instructions(there is something about clean-update.zip, then something about zImage.7z, modules.7z and etc). Can someone post the instructions, that should I use(I mean like "1. do that thing 2. do another thing")? These instructions are very complicated .
Thanks.
EDIT: Cranium Kernel says "Based on Htc French(telefonica) sources-Will work on all roms", so it meant to all GB ROMS, nothing about ICS?

Those additional informations are for developers, ignore them. Normally install the kernel from recovery (after cleaning the cache and the Dalvik cache)
and restarts device. If you have problem just reflash rom

I had a look at the kernel thread .. It does not seem stable, many users have had problems with reboots. I would recommend you not to install it, maybe wait for it to update
About the cranium kernel, it only works with Gingerbread

However, If you are looking for better performance, look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924745

Maybe I should try this kernel, but if something will be wrong, I'll restore previous(using method which you said)? You said, that I won't need to use wipe data/factory reset, so I won't loose any data, no risk(isn't it?). If you agree, say which file I should download.
You should download the file named "zImage.7z". Yes, the reinstallation of rom will overwrite the stock kernel of cm9
Hm, when I try to install zImage.7z, it's like "invisible", I've put that file in sdcard, but when I click "choose zip from sdcard" and browsing, I can't see it. Looks like it doesn't read that file. So what should I do?
By the way, did I understood your instructions correctly?
1. Wipe cache partition(didn't do it yet)
2. Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache(didn't do it yet)
3. Install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard -> zImage.7z
Why did you try to do that read the instructions
Download the revised versioned build.prop
Rename it as build.prop
& Now follow the same instruction as you did for the last one
Download the build.prop
Open es file explorer>tab on favourites > "/">system
Den replace the build.prop (Yeah u need to overwrite )
REBOOT(IMPORTANT)
Done!

How is it related with the Yannou90 kernel? build.prop wasn't mentioned in the instructions.
I get messed up becose of a previous link in the thread sorry, here's the kernel http://www.mediafire.com/?6v87qg0xdamxttp . Sorry again
Oooops again, when flashing just mount /system and /data, only one was required but i forgot which one, anyway there are no issues if you mount both.

[User Thread] Mazout360's CM10.1 Weeklies for the LG-P999

The reason for this User Thread is so that we can keep the development thread clean. Post in the development thread only if you have something useful to contribute such as a logcat, or any dev-related comments. Post any suggestions, bug reports, questions or comments about the rom in this thread,
What's working and what's not?
Working:
Camera - Yes, this means Camcorder also works! 1080P Video shooting and playback work great.
Bluetooth
WiFi
Audio
SD Card Storage
Battery Meter
And of course Hardware Acceleration!
Not Working:
RIL (Mobile Network) - This means no calls, no SMS, no Data, no anything related to the functions of your SIM Card! T-Mobile WiFi Calling also doesn't work.
Information On Dual Booting Roms
Since we currently have an issue with the network radio on our CM10 roms, most people will not be able to use this rom as a daily driver, and would prefer to stay on a fully functioning GB rom. This dual booting method lets us have the best of both worlds! You can have a buttery smooth and fast CM10 rom for enjoying all of Android Jellybean 4.2.1 goodies and a fully function Gingerbread rom when ever you need to make a call and such. For now, this is the best we can do. It's simple and very fast to switch between roms. What else could you ask for? ;D
Installation Instructions Including Dual Booting
DISCLAIMER
I (WE) AM NOT RESPONSIBLE of any damages to your device related to the use of this ROM or the dualboot toolkit. You do this at your own risk. Even though this has been tested and works well, using NVFLASH may brick your device if done incorrectly.
This ROM comes in two flavours: The dualboot toolkit or the Original flashable ROM
Dualboot ROM Instructions
WARNING! NVFLASH will format EVERYTHING, including internalSD. Make sure you backup your important files on your externalSD card
PART 1 - Resizing system partition
1) Unzip the dualboot toolkit and unzip NVFLASH_Resizer-G2X.zip.
2) Power off your phone and remove the battery. Keep vol. up and vol. down held and plug the phone via USB to a WINDOWS computer.
3) Windows should add an "APX driver". Go to control panel -> Device manager and right click on it -> Update driver -> search in system. Then, browse to the drivers folder inside the NVFLASH package and choose nvidiausb.inf. Approve any error messages (Windows 8 users read my FAQ). Install the Nvidia Fastboot driver.
4) Unplug your phone and hold down vol.up and vol.down. Replug it again and double click on flash.bat inside the NVFLASH folder. KEEP BOTH BUTTONS HELD DOWN DURING THE WHOLE PROCESS!.
5) When NVFLASH is done, unplug the phone and put back the battery. Reboot into recovery with power + vol. down. Plug it back and go to mounts and storage -> mount USB storage. If your PC asks to format the internal SD card, select yes.
PART 2 - Installing ROMS
1) Download the desired "call/SMS" ROM and extract boot.img from it's flashable zip. Rename it to boot1.img. Extract Step3_bootimg.zip from the dualboot toolkit and copy-paste boot1.img into system/boot, replacing the file that is already there. Repack Step3_bootimg.zip.
2) Copy-paste your desired ROM into the 0dualboot folder and send it to your device SDcard with everything it contains (your device should already be in the "mount USB storage" menu).
3) From the recovery, flash Step1_enabler.zip. When the screen goes black, hold power + vol. down to get back into recovery.
4) Flash your desired ROM, then Step2_ROM1.zip. Reboot to the OS.
5) You should have a Systemchanger app. Open it, click on "Switching" and give root permissions. When the screen goes black (again...), hold power + vol. down to get into recovery.
6) Flash ROM2.zip and Step3_Bootimg.zip and reboot in the OS
And there you go! To switch from one OS to another, just open the systemchanger app and click on "switching"!
Credits to bihariel for the original method. See the original thread here.
Original flashable zip ROM instructions
1) Boot into recovery with power + vol. down
2) Wipe data/cache, then mounts and storage -> format system
3) Flash this ROM
4) Advanced -> Wipe dalvik cache and fix permissions
5) Reboot and enjoy!
Special trick : In settings, go to About phone and click 6 times on Build number. This will pop up the developer and performances options. In performances options, CPU settings, change the governor from INTERACTIVE to SMARTASSV2.

Mazout Kernel on Stock 2.3.4
I flashed Mazout360's GB kernel over kwes' rooted 2.3.4/March 2012 basebannd. Was running pretty smooth, but had some problems
> Bluetooth icon at top of screen did not turn off "connected" status when I turned off my headset (BlueAnt q2.1)
> Had a few freezes. Installed SetCPU to keep max speed at 1015MHz but still some stops. Some out of nowhere, some in the middlle of doing stuff
> Finally started shutting down often. Tried to get a terminal emulator from the Market, but Market started crashing, even after several reboots. Could not get a kmsg to send.
Reinstalled my nandroid. No time at the moment to play more, need my phone reliable for some days to come. Hope lots of people try this kernel out and that I get more time with it. Nice to have new Dev activity for the G2x.
Quick question, i was wondering if it matters what zip tool we are using? Can i use 7zip for this, or should i use winzip?

Micro SD card not detected
I was following along the steps and everything was going well until step 5 in part 1. when i rebooted my phone into recovery and pulged it into the PC nothing happened even though i followed exactly what the steps say, then i continued on and everything was going well until the end, where i found out that i couldn't get the data that I backed up to my Micro SD card because the phone doesn't see it.
Please help, I'm a noob around here.
I appreciate all the great work

hello,
I have dualboot now with hellfire2.4.2 and cm10 mazout's. So one is cm 7 and the other one is cm 10, I want to flash kernel but how? If I flash cm7 kernel will it block the cm10 rom or vice-versa?

If you flash another ROM, you have to flash the corresponding stepX....zip file right after before rebooting, else you won't have the dualboot app.
Since android 4.2.2 just got out, I'll wait until it gets stable and make my upcoming build out of it For now, my phone battery doesn't work very well so I can't really test anything until I get a new one.
Hey. I got everything to work and am dualbooting nicely. My problem is kernel. I flashed a recent CM7 with this and everything went fine. Then I went to install the most recent CM7 kernel from Maz (the OC) and that works until I switch to Rom2 and back. Then the wifi gets an error and wont do anything. The kernel wont stick. Did I miss something?
Also, last night went to bed with my phone charging and when I woke up my phone was burning hot. Had Max OC at 1100.
Thanks! Works great having a taste of 4.2.1 and a phone!

thank you, I see the problem now, and two question more; do I have to redo PART 1 - Resizing system partition everytime when I install different rom combinations or reinstall same roms and does that Resizing system partition harmful/useless or slows down the phone IF I only use 1 ROM?
I'm considering the dual boot, but want to know if it's possible to go back to single boot if/[hopefully] when radio is fixed. I suppose it'll be a matter of using original nvflash and format to have only one partition?
*edit1* Ok, now I'm getting my toes wet with this. fastboot.bin...what am I doing with this? The instructions say "install NVidia fast boot." Ok, but how? Or, has it already been installed with APX? I'm confused.
*edit2* ok I have dual boot! Wow this is interesting. Been running it through different combinations of reboots through system changer, and it seems when I update gb to the latest mazkrnl it won't stick after switching to jb and back again.
Do I need to use the boot.img from the kernel and repack it into step3?

So, you mean that after using system switcher app, do power+vol up and flash kernel? Because any time I've tried that it only works on the first instance when i boot into gb. Once i go to jb and back again, the kernel goes back to stock. I'll try again though. Maybe fix permissions too!

When you system switch back to GB, reboot back into recovery and flash a kernel. I wouldn't say it goes back to stock because if it did there wouldn't be a wifi error like that. But for some reason JB works fine nothing wrong I have seen yet, though I just noticed I don't have a camera/gallery.
After switching back and forth so much I just flash the kernel and don't do anything else because nothing has seemingly changed if I wipe anything or fix anything.
If Maz has answer for this I would be much appreciated or anyone else for that matter.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
Edit: figured it out. A new boot1.img does need to get made with the new kernel already installed.
I created a new boot.img per the instructions on the original dual boot for p990 thread with maz kernel. Then I repacked step3_bootimg. Reflashed rom2 and the step3, then voila! So, you have to redo a couple steps if you want to update one rom's kernel.
Pic no longer related.
guys im having some trouble, when i go to the systemchanger app and grant permission instead of the screen going blank it gets stuck on a screen with two lg logos.
i think i havent installed the fastboot drivers correctly. i assumed it gets installed when i run flash.bat, but it may need to be installed seperately. if it needs to be installed how do i do it cause its just a .bin file and i have no idea what to do with it
