Look through the like 20 threads already posted about IMEI!! WAY TO MUCH INFO OUT THERE FOR A POST LIKE THIS!

Look for Synergy_Backup_HWKeys_signed.zip load into SD card, run recovery, run ZIP...voila , backed up. If you lose it, find /synergy in recovery then the zip file to restore it
The synergy one seems to be the easiest. It was supposedly just confirmed to restore a lost IMEI, without the roaming issue too.

What are the real chances to lose an imei??? Does anyone know? 5%,1% or less? My guess is well less than .1% of phones//not flash attempts

I don't know where you're getting your guesses from, but the important thing is that there is a chance. Better safe than sorry.

might as well do the qpst method just to be safe as well. again, please use the search function.
Of course mine is backed up, but should I back it up again everytime there is a new tool/method?
My point is it must be very rare or there would be a much larger outcry on xda and the net in general.

It's common enough that there are guides and methods about how to solve or counter the problem. XDA is a very small portion of S3 owners. Just depends on how safe you want to be. None of the current methods are guaranteed now even though all are confirmed to work to some extent. Maybe the new fix is all we'll need, but we thought that about QPST too. Time will tell.
I've been searching for several weeks on the best way to do this. The result was simply to be drowned by the deluge of information. Also, now that I'm already running CM10, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do it. "Use the search" is not an acceptable answer in my case, nor the OP's and frankly, I'm tempted to report anyone who posts those words as spammers.
Download terminal emulator from the market. Type "su" (no quotations), then type "reboot nvbackup" (no quotations). Your phone should reboot and backup two modem files. If you lose your imei, open up terminal emulator again, type "su" (no quotations), then "reboot nvrestore" (no quotations).

Doesn't get any easier than that!
The way I understood it was that there was a path in the reboot code that tried to restore imei from a backup. If "reboot nvbackup" was never run, then the imei would be restored from nothing. Once you run "reboot nvbackup", the backup will be there and you will no longer have an imei problem. Either way, this is great news!

Look we all know what opinions are like. Yes got it we all need help but sometimes you just have to do it. Why not do multiple ways of backing it up so your safe. Yes they should have used the search or ask it it one of the IMIE forms that already exist I'm not straying to flame but come on guy we should report the OP for making this thread and not keeping up with it not the people who reply!

This is correct, the way E explained it is once you run nvbackup then you never have to worry about it!
If anyone wants to read about it it's in about page 690 of the synergy ROM thread.

I'm working on a new version of su & Superuser.apk. The changes are pretty basic now, just some code cleanup and a major UI overhaul. I have more things planned, we'll see where things go. Check out the screen shots and download it if you like. Let me know what you think.
Thanks go out to Zinx for putting the original together, and Cyanogen for making the source available.
v1.2.0 is small big fixes, and some changes that should help it to work on more ROMs. I went ahead and made an update.zip this time to make sure that everything gets put in the proper place. I've only tested this on CM 4.2.3.1, so as always, backup first, and then install. Please let me know of any success/failure on different roms.

I like the overlay concept. The old full screen sometimes popped up at the wrong time and the wrong button got clicked. This looks more "up-to-date" Gonna test it out and cook it into some ROMs
No offense to the OP is meant by this:

I like the new look to it but honestly if there is no new functionality to it I dont see any need to change it. For me, its a case of leaving well enough alone. It does look good though.

I hadn't tested this on anything but CM 4.2.3.1, I had assumed it would work on any build that uses Zinx's su setup, but I could be wrong. I'll have a look at it tonight, I gotta head off to work.
seems to be just a graphical overhaul to the app, but what about su? what's different on it? I don't have the original source, guess I'll look for it.

You really shouldn't be using root explorer to replace any internal .apks, instead push them with the terminal and the linux commands.
Also, if you're gonna use root explorer or terminal, make sure the .apk name is superuser.apk not superuser 1.1.apk.

Thanks I'm going to find out how to push it with terminal.
Just tried Superuser.apk v1.1.0. The interface is better - I always thought a separate screen for SU requests was kinda wasteful. And I can also second that it saved my old permissions.
However...as a test, I deleted all my previous permissions and tried running su in Terminal Emulator. The SU request came up almost instantly, but after clicking "Deny" it took a while before the terminal responded with "Permission denied". This only happened the first time I tried it, though - denying subsequent requests goes through almost instantly. I see the same behavior with initially allowing the request vs. initially denying and subsequently allowing. Hopefully this explanation makes sense, lol.
I see your screenshots appear to be stock CM v4.2.3.1, so what I'm seeing probably something specific to my setup (BFS-304, M_Blend theme, compcache+backing, etc.), but I figured I'd let you know anyway.
Excellent work!
a new superuser app that when you entered the super user app it showed all the apps that have or do not have superuser access would be awsome
agent2594 - I understand what you're saying. I think that's something going on in the su binary, which I can't get to compile right just yet... but when I do I'll see what I can do about that.
Joe333x - I think but I could be wrong, that what you're looking for is the Superuser app in the app drawer. It'll show everything that are either allowed or denied access.

I second that. The greatest addition would be to have a list (in human readable format) of programs that have been granted/denied SU permission.
Note that these apps were intended for use with specific built in hardware for the ThinkPad. I originally ported these to the Flyer because it utilizes the same pen technology. I can't guarantee that they will work as well but I've been told that there is a stylus you can buy for your device (I don't own a Transformer) that works much better than just using your finger. So give me some feedback and let me know what you guys think!
This is an app ported over from the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet. It's used for note taking and has handwriting recognition and palm rejection. I find it pretty useful for taking notes for my classes. I made it into a flashable zip instead of requiring the use of ADB.
Thanks to:
vlara for the install with no build.prop edits

This app is another one I pulled from the Lenovo Thinkpad. It's called FlexT9 Keyboard. It acts a normal keyboard along with something similar to swype. There's another option that allows you to write in the space provided and it translates your writing to text. This can be used anywhere that you can use the keyboard. Personally, I have a hard time getting it to recognize the words I write but maybe you guys will have better luck
A quick pointer: go to the help section in the settings to really learn how to use it.

Sorry for the big download but it would be a pain to upload each individual apk.
To install the language packs either push to /system/app with ADB or install using a file explorer. Then go to settings and choose your language.

Reserved just in case
I don't like the flex 9 keyboard at all.
Also, when i rebooted from flashing the zip, I was greeted by a force close notification every 5 secconds of my original Keyboard (The revolver one not the stock keyboard)
I do like the note app, i just feel like I have to learn to use it.
Now I can't remove the Flex keyboard. (i tried uninstall but only gave me option to uninstall updates)
Going to try titanium to see if i can uninstall that way. If not.. looks like a full wipe and reflash of revolver's rom for me.
update:
Was able to unsinstall through titanium, although it required a reboot due to infinite force close loop.
Still not able to use the revolver stock keyboard. Have to resort to using the stock ASUS one.
To anyone who would like to flash this.. I recommend removing the flex9 APK from the .zip first.
This didn't happen with people who tested it, sorry about that. Can anyone else confirm that issue ? If so I will remove flexT9 or make a separate zip for it

OK, don't try NotesMobile on Krakd 1.5.2, it completely borks the system somehow. after copying to system, setting permissions, and rebooting, the system process FCs first thing. after removing NM, it's still borked. I'm gonna have to reflash Krakd now.
edit: false alarm, maybe; it seems to be fine after a couple reboots
edit2: system NOT borked, but NM keeps FCing. me = disappointed

Did you flash it or just copy the app to /system/app ? If you just pushed the app that's not enough. You need the lib files also.

EDIT:
THIS SHOULD NO LONGER BE USED.
PLEASE SEE THIS THREAD FOR RECOVERING YOUR IMEI - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802024
Hi guys,
I tried flashing AOKP on my S3 yesterday and had my IMEI value set to zero, a rare(ish) error that some users have been running into with AOKP and the unofficial Cyanogen builds for this phone. If your IMEI is lost and you don't have a backup, your phone is basically toasted. So, I had to get my phone replaced which wasn't much trouble.
After speaking with invisiblek we determined a way to back up the EFS partition (which is where the IMEI and MEID is stored).
You need to do this on a rooted phone, it's been tested only with root66. You need USB debugging on and adb on your computer.
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11 of=/sdcard/efs.sbn
(exit adb)
adb pull /sdcard/efs.sbn
DD is a linux utility that can be used to copy data from point a to point b and many, many ways. What we did here is copied the EFS partition to a single file (and then copied it to your PC). The efs.sbn file was about 13.6mb, but I've heard reports as low as 10mb. We can reverse this process to restore as well:
Code:
adb push efs.sbn /sdcard/efs.sbn
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/efs.sbn of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11
reboot
This time we wrote the backup file to the EFS partition. After doing this you need to dial *2767*3855# to re-provision your phone.
My experience: When installing AOKP, my IMEI was replaced with most of my MEID, even after reverting my rom to root66. (This causes mobile data not to work). After restoring my backup and provisioning, I regained full functionality of my data and phone. I haven't had a chance to try this with a phone where the IMEI is set to 0, but I think it's safe to assume this would fix that as well.
I would HIGHLY recommend making a backup before doing anything to your phone. Making a backup is read-only is poses no chance of something going wrong.
EDIT: For clarification: If your IMEI is already messed up, this will NOT get it back. You need a backup from BEFORE it was corrupted.
Can we run this in Terminal Emulator to get the same output? Last time I tried ADB on this phone I wasn't recognizing it. Could have been my computer though. ADB devices came back with no attached devices last time.
Looks possible. Your just telling it to save that file to the root of the internal SD and then telling ADB to pull it. Don't see why you couldn't save to SD then just Dropbox it or something.
Edit: Did it in Terminal Emulator. Saved to SD. Uploaded to Dropbox. Will also hook up my phone and pull it that way. Looks like pushing will work the same way as long as the file is on the root of SD.
Thanks so much. I also ran with terminal emulator and backed up.
Hopefully someone can verify that this will work with the IMEI = 0 issue, as that will allow us to continue to flash!
Worked for me in Terminal as well. Zipped it up and emailed to myself. 13.6MB
so I have a question about this -
I flashed CM9 the other day and it was taking over 20 min to activate and I did a battery pull, then I restarted and it activated just fine.
then i started reading all these posts about how that will break your IMEI and it got me wondering because I no longer get 4g, I get 3G just not 4G.
before I did this my MEID read the same as my IMEI but had less numbers. (just like 2 or 3) after doing *2767*3855# go back into status and see that I now have HEX and DEC under MEID which I did not have BEFORE the *2767*3855#
my question is - is there a way to test the 4G some how - I checked VZW site it says I am in a 4G area, is there a number of sort I can look at in status or somewhere else on my phone?
I'm new to this can someone tell me would in use those same commands on terminal emulator to get it? And I'm on unofficial cynogen right now so my next question is if I do corrupt it how do I place the imei back to get it woeking? Thanks

If using terminal emulator just skip straight to the line that has "su" on it and go from there. Same thing when putting it back in after it gets messed up.
The key is to put it somewhere safe as it will store it on your internal sdcard. This is called "sdcard" on your device. I just sent a copy to my drop box.
If it gets mesed up, then I would Odin back to stock rooted and just take the copy you have stored somewhere other than on your phone and put it back in the "sdcard" but not in any folder, just in the root directory. Then simply follow the restore directions in the OP but skip straight to the SU line.
That said. I'm still waiting until the RIL gets fixed. TW isn't that bad and with the mods and replacement launchers and apps the phone is nearly stock anyway. I'm being patient.

One of the more helpful posts I have seen to this point (provided it actually works to recover lost IMEI's). This issue was probably making many people hesitant, having a safeguard is always good. This is also extremely easy to do.

I flashed CM10 on my S3 from the rooted Bean rom and I can confirm that with a clean install my IMEI is missing and I have no "own number".
I do however have working data, phone, messaging. Could you explain what you mean by a phone being "toast". Is there some other consequence I'm not seeing yet? If I go to another rom or back to stock is my phone going to brick?
I've seen bits of pieces of info about the missing IMEI, and I'm hoping somebody can clarify what this means for me since my phone is technically working as expected.
Thanks

Sorry I just wanted to clarify. My IMEI is existing, but "My phone number" is blank. Also something called "MIN" is blank. I have been getting a popup asking me for a sim unlock.
Sorry for any confusion. Please ignore if i'm derailing the thread. It just sounds like a similar issue.
Worked using android terminal, on my ATT S3. Nice to know I have a backup -- eases my mind just a bit.
Well, a couple of things.
1. I'm on TMo
2. I'm on CM9
I have two phones...one borked and one good.
Went ahead and tried this..when I did the re-provision thing I got an error Connection problem or invalid MMI code. I assume that this is caused by being on TMo.
Bottom line, my serial # is for the correct phone, and this did not move over my IMEI from my working phone. My borked phone still shows IMEI 0

As per the OP, it makes sense that it didn't work for you. We need someone with a valid backup to test this theory out to see if it restores their IMEI.

You did do a reboot after attempting to restore correct? Keep in mind, Verizon due to it's dual type of network (CDMA/LTE) has that extra need for the provisioning, thus the code they use to activate is needed. Remember we use GSM, there is no special activation needed except pop a SIM in and power up. Try putting your SIM in the old phone and powering on.
I have been searching for hours for my nv_data.bin on my skyrocket to no avail. I have searched the /efs folder but no such file exists. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't know where to find that file, but i do know that no such app exists for SGH-i727(r). You have to manually unlock it.
There is a guide that tells you all about it here.

Lol :silly:
I just posted that link above :good:
So to clear up some confusion you'll only find NV.data_bin on vibrants. It was an exploit used to unlock them. The file was SUPPOSED to be encrypted. On the Vibrant it wasn't. It was hidden in plain site in the EFS folder under efs/root/afs/settings. From there you could use a hex editor to read the file then unlock it. Samsung has gotten wise and now hides that file. So there you go.

Thanks alot, so i need to find "Tmo_SGH-T989_UVLE1_radio.zip" then unlock it then switch back?
No, there is no current method to decrypt the efs, only to restore (encrypted) backups if necessary. Besides, we already have an unlock method based on ucld2 service menu.

Thanks alot for all you help i found that section and the links you provided. Im running stock ICS 4.04 and i just downloaded your modems-ucld2.zip you provided. Im gonna flash in recovery and see if it lets me unlock my i727. my whole thing is i see people saying just flash it back. Thats just where im confused. When they say flash it back and it should stay unlocked, do they mean restore from the backup that im making, or use the other link (ULCD2-oem-rooted) that you provided to restore.
Once you follow the steps and unlock your phone it will remain unlocked. The unlock will persist through ROM flashes. So flash or restore whatever you want.
Thanks everyone for all your help
After following the directions my i727 is now unlocked and working on t-mobile. wow im amazed at the download speed with t-mobile hspa 16mb/s down and 5mb/s up
Thumbs up to everyone
I've searched everywhere and can't find anything on the sprint SPH-P500.
Does anyone know of any guides out there? I don't want to risk bricking it with a root from another model number. Thanks for all your hard work guys.much appreciated!
Do you have your stock rom? If you do, try rom for GT-5100 but you will not have 4G capability...
And if it don't work, you go in download mode and then restore your old stock rom thank to odin!
I guess everyone has forgotten about our tablet
I've never done anything on the coding side. But if someone could give me some guidance, I'd be willing to attempt to port some of the greatness that all of the other tablets are getting.
Its a great undertaking. I do website development and have linux experience and would rater not touch rom development. I have been interested though.
As far as the gt builds, i can give that a try. I dont have 4g in my area anyways,. Ill just have to become comfortable with odin before i do anything. Thanks!
Has there been any update on this? Looked around and doesn't look like there is even a developer working on it.
I can't even find the stock firmware for the SPH-P500.05 to download. I'm about to see if a sprint store will give me the file so I can start experimenting. If someone has a link to the stock firmware for this device it would be great. Maybe I'll get my hands dirty and make a few attempts and maybe get a guide going.

I understand that CVE-2013-2094 has been ported to work (escalate to r00t) on Android devices. I don't know if this model has "performance events" turned on but, if so, could this be an opportunity to get # on our tablets?
Also, I have a way to kick off processes as system. Could that help us?

I need to subscribe to this thread. Sorry about the delay. I have been playing with the idea of flashing the GT-5100 firmware, but there is no way back to stock if things go bad. I think I'm going to be more proactive and talk with the local Sprint store to see if I can get that firmware / bin from them. The fact that the development community for this device is so dead is a bit eerie.

I can also confirm cydia impactor works and is really as easy as downloading to pc run impactor hit startband it installsnsuper su right to the root of the tablet after that I have been able to successfully install (titanium, busybox, , link2sd, rom manager) and they all have root access
I have also been able to download mobile terminal and at $ prompt put in (su) and # should show letting you know you now have root access
after that I have also been able to change the default storage to ext2 by using. pm set-install-location 2, from # prompt and using link2sd to move apps 2 extsdcard for those of you that have an 8 gigger like I do I hope this helps im still alittle new to android
Any custom roms found for this tablet? I googled and I could only find rooting method but no custom roms (e.g. kitkat) for this tablet. Can the P5100 ones be used instead? I don't need the 4G service.
cydia impactor isnt recognizing the device. usb drivers fully installed and all that... kinda weird
nevermind. it worked!!! now i just need to install recovery and find a darn ROM LoL
I just received my Sprint SPH-500, and wouldn't have known it's a nonstandard Galaxy Tab 2 variant without this thread. I rooted mine with Towelroot, so I still have a locked bootloader, but full root access. AFAIK, my flash counter hasn't been triggered.
Here;s a screen capture of my downloading screen. It shows I haven't done a custom binary download (what triggers the flash counter), and I'm not running a custom binary, as I'm running the Samsung Official binary. But it does show my system status is custom..

I should have progress to report on moving apps to my external sdcard and second partition soon.
After experimenting with Link2SD for more than a week, I gave up on it. It's just too unstable to be a daily driver. I only have the 8 GB model, and run several large data astronomy and birding apps, They left me with 800 MB free RAM on my internal SD storage, and I still had other apps to install.
Link2SD put apks, Dalvik-cache, and lib files on the second partition of my external SDCard, but lost the links a reboot or two later. It claimed to move 1.8 GB of files, but showed 14 GB of RAM used on my second partition. It lost user and system apps that were linked, unlinked, and lost, for instance, the Google Play Store Services.
I ended up using a symlinking app called Foldermount, similar to the old (unsupported) Directory Bind app. It stores data folders on my external SDCard, and symlinks them so my astronomy and birding apps think they're still stored on the internal SDCard. I've got all my apps installed, and still have nearly 3 GB internal SDCard RAM free.
