I've searched everywhere and can't find anything on the sprint SPH-P500.
Does anyone know of any guides out there? I don't want to risk bricking it with a root from another model number. Thanks for all your hard work guys.much appreciated!
Do you have your stock rom? If you do, try rom for GT-5100 but you will not have 4G capability...
And if it don't work, you go in download mode and then restore your old stock rom thank to odin!
I guess everyone has forgotten about our tablet
I've never done anything on the coding side. But if someone could give me some guidance, I'd be willing to attempt to port some of the greatness that all of the other tablets are getting.
Its a great undertaking. I do website development and have linux experience and would rater not touch rom development. I have been interested though.
As far as the gt builds, i can give that a try. I dont have 4g in my area anyways,. Ill just have to become comfortable with odin before i do anything. Thanks!
Has there been any update on this? Looked around and doesn't look like there is even a developer working on it.
I can't even find the stock firmware for the SPH-P500.05 to download. I'm about to see if a sprint store will give me the file so I can start experimenting. If someone has a link to the stock firmware for this device it would be great. Maybe I'll get my hands dirty and make a few attempts and maybe get a guide going.

I understand that CVE-2013-2094 has been ported to work (escalate to r00t) on Android devices. I don't know if this model has "performance events" turned on but, if so, could this be an opportunity to get # on our tablets?
Also, I have a way to kick off processes as system. Could that help us?

I need to subscribe to this thread. Sorry about the delay. I have been playing with the idea of flashing the GT-5100 firmware, but there is no way back to stock if things go bad. I think I'm going to be more proactive and talk with the local Sprint store to see if I can get that firmware / bin from them. The fact that the development community for this device is so dead is a bit eerie.

I can also confirm cydia impactor works and is really as easy as downloading to pc run impactor hit startband it installsnsuper su right to the root of the tablet after that I have been able to successfully install (titanium, busybox, , link2sd, rom manager) and they all have root access
I have also been able to download mobile terminal and at $ prompt put in (su) and # should show letting you know you now have root access
after that I have also been able to change the default storage to ext2 by using. pm set-install-location 2, from # prompt and using link2sd to move apps 2 extsdcard for those of you that have an 8 gigger like I do I hope this helps im still alittle new to android
Any custom roms found for this tablet? I googled and I could only find rooting method but no custom roms (e.g. kitkat) for this tablet. Can the P5100 ones be used instead? I don't need the 4G service.
cydia impactor isnt recognizing the device. usb drivers fully installed and all that... kinda weird
nevermind. it worked!!! now i just need to install recovery and find a darn ROM LoL
I just received my Sprint SPH-500, and wouldn't have known it's a nonstandard Galaxy Tab 2 variant without this thread. I rooted mine with Towelroot, so I still have a locked bootloader, but full root access. AFAIK, my flash counter hasn't been triggered.
Here;s a screen capture of my downloading screen. It shows I haven't done a custom binary download (what triggers the flash counter), and I'm not running a custom binary, as I'm running the Samsung Official binary. But it does show my system status is custom..

I should have progress to report on moving apps to my external sdcard and second partition soon.
After experimenting with Link2SD for more than a week, I gave up on it. It's just too unstable to be a daily driver. I only have the 8 GB model, and run several large data astronomy and birding apps, They left me with 800 MB free RAM on my internal SD storage, and I still had other apps to install.
Link2SD put apks, Dalvik-cache, and lib files on the second partition of my external SDCard, but lost the links a reboot or two later. It claimed to move 1.8 GB of files, but showed 14 GB of RAM used on my second partition. It lost user and system apps that were linked, unlinked, and lost, for instance, the Google Play Store Services.
I ended up using a symlinking app called Foldermount, similar to the old (unsupported) Directory Bind app. It stores data folders on my external SDCard, and symlinks them so my astronomy and birding apps think they're still stored on the internal SDCard. I've got all my apps installed, and still have nearly 3 GB internal SDCard RAM free.

I'm working on a new version of su & Superuser.apk. The changes are pretty basic now, just some code cleanup and a major UI overhaul. I have more things planned, we'll see where things go. Check out the screen shots and download it if you like. Let me know what you think.
Thanks go out to Zinx for putting the original together, and Cyanogen for making the source available.
v1.2.0 is small big fixes, and some changes that should help it to work on more ROMs. I went ahead and made an update.zip this time to make sure that everything gets put in the proper place. I've only tested this on CM 4.2.3.1, so as always, backup first, and then install. Please let me know of any success/failure on different roms.

I like the overlay concept. The old full screen sometimes popped up at the wrong time and the wrong button got clicked. This looks more "up-to-date" Gonna test it out and cook it into some ROMs

I like the new look to it but honestly if there is no new functionality to it I dont see any need to change it. For me, its a case of leaving well enough alone. It does look good though.

I hadn't tested this on anything but CM 4.2.3.1, I had assumed it would work on any build that uses Zinx's su setup, but I could be wrong. I'll have a look at it tonight, I gotta head off to work.
seems to be just a graphical overhaul to the app, but what about su? what's different on it? I don't have the original source, guess I'll look for it.

You really shouldn't be using root explorer to replace any internal .apks, instead push them with the terminal and the linux commands.
Also, if you're gonna use root explorer or terminal, make sure the .apk name is superuser.apk not superuser 1.1.apk.

Thanks I'm going to find out how to push it with terminal.
Just tried Superuser.apk v1.1.0. The interface is better - I always thought a separate screen for SU requests was kinda wasteful. And I can also second that it saved my old permissions.
However...as a test, I deleted all my previous permissions and tried running su in Terminal Emulator. The SU request came up almost instantly, but after clicking "Deny" it took a while before the terminal responded with "Permission denied". This only happened the first time I tried it, though - denying subsequent requests goes through almost instantly. I see the same behavior with initially allowing the request vs. initially denying and subsequently allowing. Hopefully this explanation makes sense, lol.
I see your screenshots appear to be stock CM v4.2.3.1, so what I'm seeing probably something specific to my setup (BFS-304, M_Blend theme, compcache+backing, etc.), but I figured I'd let you know anyway.
Excellent work!
a new superuser app that when you entered the super user app it showed all the apps that have or do not have superuser access would be awsome
agent2594 - I understand what you're saying. I think that's something going on in the su binary, which I can't get to compile right just yet... but when I do I'll see what I can do about that.
Joe333x - I think but I could be wrong, that what you're looking for is the Superuser app in the app drawer. It'll show everything that are either allowed or denied access.

I second that. The greatest addition would be to have a list (in human readable format) of programs that have been granted/denied SU permission.
First post, and already I'm confused and lost. Off to a good start, yes?
Firstly, greetings all. Nice to meet you.
Secondly, I today managed to acquire a very special and so far beloved Asus EEE Transformer TF101, so, tell me, what can make this Transformer even better?
Why, gaining root access, of course!
I've had a HTC sensation for about seven-ish months now, installed many things on it, and avoided bricking it (somehow), so I'm not entirely new to this process. However, the entire process of rooting the Transformer is getting a bit confusing.
After using Google (yay!) to my advantage, I eventually came across this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366743
"EASY!" I thought.
...until I discovered my current build number is "8.6.5.21".
So, using the above thread, I got redirected to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1417006
At this point, things started going downhill.
I read through the steps of the latter thread, which were:
" Get Razorclaw and install it, no root needed."
Done.
"- Get the recovery installer and do the same."
"The Recovery"? My first question comes here, what recovery do I want? Do I go for the straightforward CWM?
My second question is, how am I meant to install a recovery without first rooting my device?
"- Check your version info. You'll see a pair of letter which are like the "WW"[...]"
My version says "WW_epad-etc" so I assume that's sorted.
"- Follow the instructions regarding downloading the .13 update (WW version and/or whatever letter pair your tablet uses, in case the WW doesn't work)."
To this, I assume "pjfriend" refers to the first thread. So I go to it, and open this link. This link works fine, however...
image
How am I meant to downgrade(upgrade?) to Version 8.6.5.13 when it's only designed for a JP "SKU", and I have a WW "SKU"?
"Unzip, slap on external SD, power off, power on with down volume, volume up to go to recovery, bang. Done."
Again, if I have no recovery installed due to being unable to root due to being unable to update my build number, how am I supposed to boot into recovery?
"- Do the same thing with the megaupload file (.19)."
No root :<
"The second option did fix the problem I had, which was trying to update to a WW.19 firmware from a US.13 - DO THE DOUBLE FILE/RENAME TRICK. It works perfectly."
I'm unsure as to what the "second option" he refers to is, and what the "double file/rename trick" is. Any ideas?
"- Run razorclaw, run recovery installer, and gloat."
Wait... so... NOW I run the recovery installer? :/
Darn my build version, it could be as easy as installing an APK and finishing!
My final aim is to install AOKP, and use that, which of course I need root for.
So, for my last trick, do I need to install any firmware for AOKP?
For my really last trick, anything else I should know?
Thanks in advance, apologies for the wall of text.
All best,
Valky.

Thanks very much, however, from what I understand Vipermod is built for the Transformer Prime. Does it work on the non-prime variant?
It will work for rooting only and not installing cwm. Use Recovery Installer for that. Worked fantastic for me on 9.2.1.17.

ViperMod, use option 3 since you're still on HC firmware.
Thanks a lot, all of the above, looks a lot less difficult than I was making it.
Last question:
"Plug in your Transformer"
Check.
"and make sure to install the drivers located in the included .zip"
How would I do this? After plugging in the Tablet, Windows automatically installed the driver software successfully. Is that it already done, or do I need to do anything in particular before running Vipermod?

If your PC recognized you TF, you're good to go.
In case the ViperMod process doesn't work for some reason, update the driver to
the one in the folder.

Hopefully, I shall be able to help someone else in return. Thank you all once again!

Great. I highly recommend using Recovery Installer to install Rogue XM CWM Recovery. Its the only version that supports the external micro SD card. There are far to many posts about problems with others especially ROM Manager.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
I'm afraid that "one last thing" isn't coming around as quickly.
After sucessfully rooting my device (thanks all!), I've installed titanium backup, backed up the few apps I installed, enabled root access on ES File Explorer, given super user permissions, all that...
Unfortunately, it seems the recovery installer insists I'm not rooted. It just flashes for a second, and then I get a message saying "Sorry, you are not rooted!"
Have I done something wrong?
Also, I have no external SD card in the device currently, but I have the 8 gig one from the old Sensation. Is that required?
Tried various things, but it seems that Recovery Installer just doesn't want to listen. Is there any other way to install a recovery, either manually or automatically, and other than ROM manager? I used 4ext/TWR on my Sensation, so I'm unused to using other things.
And now I'm being asked to update my firmware, I have two more postpone chances. Should I accept?

Begin installing the Samsung USB Drivers.
It can appear that the installer program isn't doing anything for a while so just be patient.
When the motochopper.zip file finishes downloading
right-click on it and select Extract All...
I usually just leave it at the default location and click Extract
It should finish this fairly quickly. When it does finish, open the motochopper folder in the resulting window. You can now ignore this window until you need it later.
For the sake of efficient use of time, while the drivers are being installed and motochopper.zip is being extracted, you should turn your attention to the phone itself. It needs to be prepared for being connected to your computer for the first time.
USB debugging within Developer options needs to be enabled to use this exploit. There are some that would say that if you don't know how to do this, you shouldn't be in the development forums. To them I say, "Everyone had to learn from somewhere. WHY NOT HERE??"
To enable Developer options, open Settings and click on the "More" tab, then "About device". Mine shows where Developer options will be after doing this.
Near the bottom is an entry called "Build number", click on it repeatedly (7 times) until a toast pops up telling you that developer mode is on.
Press the back softkey and click on "Developer options". If you don't see it, you didn't click the "Build number" enough times.
DO NOT CHANGE ANY ENTRIES IN THIS SECTION WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT THEY DO FIRST!!
Click on USB debugging
click OK on the "Allow USB debugging" window that pops up.
When the Samsung USB Drivers are finished installing, connect the phone to your computer using the USB cable that came with your phone. Windows Update should start looking for software for your phone immediately as indicated by the popup window that appears at the bottom-right of your screen when you have your phone connected to the computer. You can click on this window to watch it's progress, or simply wait for the next one telling you that your device is ready to use.
After you see this dialog, go back to the folder that opened when you extracted motochopper.zip and double-click on the file named run.bat
and click Run on the dialog window that pops up.
when the command line window appears, press enter to begin rooting your phone.
A dialog window will appear on your phone asking you for permission to let ADB execute commands. Click OK.
when the rooting process finishes, press enter to reboot the phone and close the command line window.

Agreed - except for "enabling Developer options and USB Debugging" which I thought might be good in the OP of the "real" thread (and frankly is not called out well in this OP), this doesn't seem to add anything.
No need to clutter the Development thread with guides, thats what General is for. I'm sure this will help someone but its still in the wrong section unless you have a kernel or rom to post.
Thread moved, post in accordance with XDA rules, thanks and enjoy the new phone.

The motochopper script fails each time. Is there something I am missing? This is getting to be a problem because I need to be able to run WIFI Tether for work.... Help!

Are you using a new or known good cable? Try re downlooading the zip.
Make sure you extracted the zip. Remove and reinstall device drivers.
Have you tried foxfi in the playstore?
I'm not rooted and it works for me?

Well... Yes, I have tried them all, and some.

Thank you for the fast response. I am using the USB that came with the phone. I have tried multiple USB ports on my computer and have gotten the Motochopper file from 3 different locations. I have downloaded the USB driver from Samsung twice and installed. I even tried 2 different computers. I am at wits end....
I wrote Foxfi to see if this phone is compatible and hope they respond shortly.
Thanks,
Fred
Fixed missing ADB connection
Wow, I seemed to have fixed the problem myself by chance. I executed the adb.exe file in the Motochopper folder as a stand alone (a few times in fact) and the next time I connected my phone I got the pop-up to accept and was able to root it! In all the posts I have read, not once has anyone mentioned this. Wow, rooted at last! Thanks!

In the attempts before that, did the command line window even open when you tried to run the batch file?
EDIT: Typo

Something that neither root guide mentions in the OP is that you might also need to disable "Verify apps via USB." It was disabled the first time I rooted, but it was enabled after I did a factory reset and rooted again. If root is failing, see if that option is checked and uncheck it if it is.
Can't attach or post a link, yet, or I'd include a an actual link to a screenshot. URL here: i.imgur.com/Ord8xxj.png

People usually install Titanium Backup next and use it to remove bloatware.

Rooting the LG Optimus L70Welcome, all! So, I'm gonna just get straight to the point. There's a way to root Metro PCS's LG Optimus L70 (MS323).
(This can also work with almost any android phone, by the way)
***I have tested this out on my ms323, it works, and everything's fine even with a reboot***
The only slight concern I have is that it may cause a small speed decrease in your phone (hardly noticeable a few secs after first reboot),
but still works at least!
Now, to make this seem more "real", I'm posting screenshots from my phone. The instructions should overall be the same for other phones.
**Also, the only way for this exploit to work, is if you have a kernel build date prior to June 3rd, 2014. To check, go to settings -> about phone, and check where it says kernel version, and look for the date. My phone just says 3.4.0+, and still worked (should be the same for people using this phone). If you're using any other phone, it should show the date. **
1) Go to your phone's settings -> Security

}
2) Enable Unknown sources (have the box checked.
3) Now, go to your phone's browser, and go to towelroot (dot) com . I may not be able to post links yet :silly:
4) Click the weird-looking red sign in the middle, and a tr.apk should begin downloading.
**If your phone thinks its malware, ignore it. The app uses a system exploit and makes the kernel crash; during this, the system automatically gives root access to any app, regardless of if it should. If you wanna know more, just look up "geohot towel root". **
5) Now, use a file manager to find the apk in your downloads, or (easiest ), drag down the notification bar and click the download.
6) Google will show a warning pop-up that you shouldn't install it, just click the checkbox and install it anyway.
7) Now click "make it ra1n", and you're rooted! Simple as that, no reboot required . *Note that some devices may fail in using this exploit, sorry if you're one of those
*Optional
Download Root checker, and press verify root, congrats if you're rooted!
Thanks for reading, I hope this will help you all!
Towelroot can't root

Duh, seems the app which seems to break all the biggies to root, can't root this Samsung Galaxy Music Duos S6012. :crying:
I downloaded, installed, clicked the Make it Rain button and instead of crashing my android, the app crashes itself.

Right now, I dont believe there are, sorry. I think this is due to thr phone having a secured/encrypted bootloader, and also partly because the phone is relatively new. There aren't many things you can do with it right now other than use root apps.
hi guys.
it will works on lg l70 dual(d325)?
thanks.
has anyone had issues with customizing the status bar and the lock screen with gravity box?
if so is there another option?
Optimus L70
I just rooted my LG Optimus L70 with Towelroot and it worked great. I had been trying to find a way to root the phone and all I could find was that it couldn't be rooted due to the boot loader being locked. I found out about Towelroot and its amazing how easy it is. I root a lot of phones for people and this is by far the easiest program to use
I used this , and my root was confirmed. The problem i have is when I use Root File Explorer to delete some stock apk's, they wont delete. The file explorer says that the delete was successful but the apk does not delete?

This was the easiest root I've ever done, I just wish this phone had a rom.
Awesome
Worked for me on my new phone i bought a few days ago but with no reboot rooted live either way i checked it with root checker said i was then rebooted to make sure and rechecked everything checked out a-ok! thanks for the tutorial btw I am new member to this site. lol ;P

Problem using towelroot!!
HI,
I Installed towelroot and I installed SUPERUSER SU, But my hotspot stopped working AFTER I was able to use it for 5 months when i got this phone. I have the LG70 MS323, Now when i try to use the hotspot it brings up a metro/ tmobile page that says I need to upgrade my phone to get hotspot? I place a root on the phone so that i can acess the hot spot without being charged by tmobile/metropcs. How can i do this? I still have towellroot but it doesn't work to hide the phone and I no longer can use hotspot without TMOBILE/ METRO BLOCKING IT. I got this phone to hack it and use hotspot with out paying the crazy price they are asking me to pay. Please help. or please advise to how I fix this.

I was able to gain access to Zebra's firmware (access privileges have been revoked temporarily....I hope) downloads and am here to share it with anyone who needs it. Feel free to share the link or mirror as you see fit. It's my personal dropbox so if too much traffic happens I'll upload elsewhere. Though my upload speeds are crap as I'm stuck with DSL where I'm at, so please be patient as the files take time to get there and at the time of this post the files I already have are still uploading with about 4 hours left. Also, the files aren't organized an any way shape or form, so cross reference the version your device is on with the Zebra website to confirm which file you are supposed to use. The manual is free to download from their website. USE IT!
If Windows OS files are needed or files for the TC75 or any other Zebra firmware/reset files are needed, feel free to PM me with the file name needed and for which device. I've been given access to the entire download section so take advantage of it and turn that paperweight into something useful!!
*DISCLAIMER*
I'm not responsible for anyone who doesn't read the manual as described above and bricks their device due to lack of common sense and basic knowledge of the Windows/Android OS mechanics. I gave you the files but my responsibility ends there.

I apologize to all the members that have emailed me trying to find out about getting firmware files for their device. I have been out of the country and unable to keep this thread updated due to job restraints. In trying to gain access it appears that Zebra has began limiting access to their firmware files so as of right now I am unable to get access to their file server and retrieve anymore than what is already in my dropbox. I will leave that link up and anyone is free to mirror these files.
I will continue my attempts to gain access to the files everyone wants but I may have to use more unconventional methods to accomplish this and may not be worth it in the end. Sorry. Keep your fingers crossed...
Or better yet shoot an email to Zebra's support department, feed em some b.s. story about you needing to reset and update the firmware on the device you have because you bought it from ebay (*wink, wink*). They may ask for device specifics like serial numbers or something but sometimes if you wait it out, the approval may get pushed through to close the support ticket. Just don't give up on the first attempt. Good luck.:fingers-crossed:

do you have the Factory Reset zip? not just the enterprise wipe?
Has anybody else had any luck with locating these files? There are so many different ones with many different names for many different models. I have the TC700H and I flashed it with one of the ZIP files from the dropbox folder, works fine except wifi will not turn on.
T70N0KXXARUEF01903.zip is the specific file I need
For those unable to download the files trough Dropbox and failing,
I have copied the files to Mega, so if you like, You can also get them from there.
I only need an email to send the link to?
Or if anyone knows how to make an Public folder there, Please let me know.
: can anybody point me in the right direction of the USB charger for the tc70, I saw them on Amazon but they are very expensive and all I need is the cable itself. Or is there a ghetto way of charging it?

Looking at the 10 points on the back top left most is negative, two over to the right is positive. These ten points are also perfectly spaced for headers if your handy at soldering. Or can cut the end of a usb cable. Just be careful not to touch other points as bad things can happen.
Not responsible if it smokes, flings poo, or otherwise isn't happy

Can anyone help me with the reset files for the Marshmellow TC70x?
Can you get the TC56 full flash file for Nougat?
Hi, i have bought zebra tc 56dj but there is an admin settings and I am not able to restore it, also I am not able to download a file from zebra website as the device has been bought by someone else. Any chance that any of you have a software for this model ?? thanks
Hi, i need the T700HKXXXREENxyyzz.zip for an enterprise reset for my tc700h and my email is [email protected] if you could send me the link, that would be awesome
TC75
oI've reset some mc40s, tc70s and 51s without problems by placing said files onto the sd card. I also gained root on them except for tc51, i haven't tried yet.
I have now a tc75 that is unable to mount the external sd card in order to reset. It sees the storage is there in recovery but is not mounted. This is what is says in the manual: : "There is a Mandatory patch (T75NOLxxxxxxxxxxxx.zip) to be applied along with this OS which is required to update any package from an External SD card from MDM
only."
How to get around this? The only way to do this is through usb connection and placing the files onto the internal storage? I dont have a cable or cradle. And for everyone here who is also without this expensive usb cable, I think its plausible to make one since these units have the pinout connections right on the exterior, if anyone wants to figure it out, shouldn't be hard. They are locking down external storage access making it harder if you dont have a cable.

Factory cable might be the same as the Motorola factory cable. Without looking it up, I think the the 5v line is split into two going to the original pin and either the green or yellow wire pin with a 1k ohm resistor (don't quote me on that). Again I'm just assuming it would be like Motorola's since i thought they bought out Zebra/Symbol. Hence the restructured firmware support.
EDIT: Like this..
