[DEV][ROM] B2G/MozillaOS - Defy Android Development

What works:
- Boot
- Touchscreen
- Sound
What doesn't work:
everything else
Issues:
RIL: https://github.com/M1cha/B2G/issues/1
WiFi: https://github.com/M1cha/B2G/issues/2
Download:
http://www.mediafire.com/?255euk84cv3gl2e
Changelog:
12/09/09: initial release
Installation:
- copy zip to sdcard
- wipe data and cache
- install zip
Note1: You should use this in Multiboot. I never tested as real system and it makes no sense in actual status.
Note2: First boot takes longer, because data-partition will be build. After wipe data&cache system still works because he rebuilts the data-partition.

Great Work
I thought this needed some modification to the kernel to get it to work or am I wrong???

Interesting stuff
Can someone explain it a bit further? This isn't based on Android at all? And what are (will be) the advantages/disadvantages over it?

This is based on HTML 5 and it's supposed to be a even cheaper alternative to android and other OS's
.... There are plans for phones to be coming out next year I think in the US, also they say they can port 75% or more android and IOS apps as they are made in HTML5.... search up for more info. Also there is another OS called Tizen coming next year aswell I think but it's based on android.

man you are a genius. never expected this on defy. its like dream come true as i always wanted firefox os on my mobile

B2G is based on Android, but completely deleted the java/dalvik-stuff.
They are using their own native daemon and all apps are written in HTML5.

I kinda started falling behind on tech stuff when the tech magazines prices jumped over my head :/
Okay, so it's cheaper, that is a great plus. How about performance? Anyone tested already? Will do it tomorrow morning after the exam anyway
Mika, will it be possible to make it feature complete? I know it's a bit too early too ask, but just wondering if there are some already known kernel issues or something like that in the way?
*EDIT* Damn... Just noticed that there's no downloads to try just yet

tizen is not based on android. its more of a fusion between meego and bada... though initially suppose to be using enlightenment libs... but now also based on html5

Hd2 may have already lost its crown to us...!!!!!!

my thoughts exactly, i mean, firefox for android lags on my defy... i'll try this anyway...

Nice work man.
At the moment, its still on a better stage than the first ICS boot by Epsylon3.

Amazing! I never thought we will see this! a beta of a beta, betaception (? and about the screens, yes, the demo running on a SGSII looked WAY better than this, but dunno why they changed it.
Next step: web Os!!!! :victory:
edit: a video running B2G as a POC will be nice, if thats not too much to ask for

I found the github of the SGS2-B2G which seems to be of the leed UI-designer of that project.
It seems these changes just aren't published to mozilla's github.
I will build again with the new sources and if everything works I'll publish the first build.

Boot to gecko is diffrent from the latest SS-s from Mozilla

Lolol. N00bs br0. But really though.
well if you guys can get a new boot.img build with a ramdisk from one of the working honeycomb ports and a zimage from a working 32b kernel we can get something going
well honeycomb has been ported to the evo 4g, but its barely functional.

Honeycomb's primary target is tablets
why is this thread cluttering up G1 dev?
yes mainly for tablets. but some member like bypass portet it to the nexus one and it works... so if someone know how we get it boot PM me or yoshi
bypass said we have to edit the boot.img and it will work but yet it only sitting in the htc logo.

well, 2.3 was released not so long ago
it does seem clear that honeycomb has a different target to gingerbread,
the new features of honeycomb are mostly to take advantage of a larger screen size, and more processing power,
sure maybe it could be dumbed down for g1, but what would be the point?
I love my g1, but its time to move on soon, there comes a point when getting something to run on it for the sake of getting it to run becomes futile , by not moving on to better hardware we are ultimately missing out on the great features that an Android OS can give us when running on up to date hardware
I can get Linux to run on a Pentium3 , but why would I want to do that when I can run it on a quadcore intel ?
I'm moving on to the Evo mid-march, but why not try and make the most out of it?

They said something about 2.2 and supported devices. Since the XT720 doesn't officially have 2.2, dunno if CB froyo counts maybe we're out of the loop on this one. Haha well its not like its going to make a difference in the part of the world where im living anyways, but yeah I like the UI.
As do I.
Anyways google tends to do updates OTA for all devices as long as they meet specifications. I'm confident that as long as you're on 2.2, you'll get it.
And now there's an apk up for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166152

/what is an official ROM anyway, some fast pushed moto rom full of crap?
Android is android.... there is no such thing as official really, just some companies run by #$%ers that force and open source project to be closed....
So now since we closed it we can call it official,
The market will check your version and update if your version is supported thats all.
If flash will install then you have 2.2 trust me.
If stupid Moto would unlock the damn bootloader we could write a ROM you could flash, but it's not so we found a work around Nandroiiid.
I my opignion every nandroid ever put on this forum is official as long as it boots up and is funtional,
Does anyone remember stock 2.1.1?
Nooooooooothing worked, but it was official....
Every single ROM that has been Deved on this forum was better,

Hmm I thought Google wasn't allowing downloading movies on rooted devices? Yet I have the option to And I'm definitly rooted. But the movies catagory doesn't show up on my Droid Eris running cm7. What gives. I find also a little sluggish at times And loading takes longer. Not really digging th windows phone 7 look either.
Better at app finding but definitely sluggish (on the first screen at least).

It requires linux kernel 3.3 + not sure if its because of the android patchs that were added to that version, or because it really needs linux 3.3, if the later, we probably won't see webOs running on android devices for a while.

I think it's great that WebOS can now make its way to the latest and greatest from Android, but I don't know if I see much a point, no android device has a gesture area... Unless someone can make a capacitive-to-screen upward swipe do something, just as well for left and right across the home, menu, back and search buttons...or WebOS could be adapted to use the four buttons, that sounds more practical.
Even still, it would have to have Play Store access and be able to run Android apps if it were to be more than a toy.
I'd still like to see it on my Thunderbolt.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app
There is an android launcher, wave, that mimics the webOS wave very well and shows that a gesture area is feasible - use the wave all the time on my GNote. I never got the webOS wave working right but it is perfect on my GNote.

I will note that the HP Touchpad did not have a gesture area either, just the main "Home" button or whatever you want to call it. It was setup that the home button would bring you to card view. There was really no need with for menu buttons or anything else with the way WebOS was setup. It worked quite well, and I would love to see this on more Android built phones.
First ports!
FYI, there is now a Google Nexus and a Transformer Prime ports, still in very early stages, but I can't wait to see now what OE will become, finally some hopes for this great OS

Native Ubuntu on the Galaxy s3 Please Read

Alright so im going to start by just saying that i had a similar project going with the galaxy nexus but I ran into kernel panic issues, that and I just got busy with life( school, work, job, etc). Now my time has freed up due to my last semester in school. So I am looking to pick this project back up but for the galaxy s3 Verizon...
Now i already have a compiled image based on the Ubuntu Leo originally created for the HD2( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOPu6DgbOs4 ) ......... this week i will be working on a kernel.
Now the image itself has been modified slightly from the hd2 version,...I will be looking for devs to help me with a kernel if this is you and you would be interested in helping please pm me. if you would like to alpha this also pm me ill start a list in this thread. Looking to get this going quick. ill have the image up by the end of the week if anyone is interested in experimenting with it. and i'm hoping for an alpha stage build by the end of the month.
If you have any questions just ask away.
Project Ubuntu
What you need to know
There is plans on having fully 3g/4g capability
Plans on MMS Capability
This is not a direct full desktop port. Its a modified/ optimized for armed devices based on the image used with the HD2
It will use a Linux based android Kernel
If you would like to Alpha this please PM me, and if you would like to help with the kernel ( I could use the help) also PM me.
I will update with progress later, and update with more details later. The point in doing this is the exact same as it has been in the past....because it would be pretty flipping awesome and secondly this would open Ubuntu up, it would offer up just another OS option.
PLEASE VIEW THE VIDEO TO GET AN IDEA OF WHAT THE BUILD IS LIKEHERE
Awesome.
I have a question though. Will the OS boot as a stand alone operating system or will it boot inside android?
my tapatalk signature sucks more than yours.
It will be a stand alone no chrooted. It to start will run along side android booting from the sdcard like a dual boot set up. After beta it will be flashed in place of android
Sounds great

I direct port would make much smoother and more compatible as well. Just imagine connecting a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and hooking up to your tv. Extremely portable linux machine.

I don't see how it would work since everything would be shrunk down and hard to tap on. Also still not portable as you would need to carry around a mouse and keyboard. Just my opinion. Once again cool idea but i don't see it as being useful on such a small screen.

First off try looking at the youtube video.... the port its self has been modified for armed devices ( hense the youtube video) Second the version of ubuntu my image is based off of does have 3g capability writing a module to use with 4g wouldn't be to difficult. Third just to make this clear when beta is released it will have MMS Capability, and Phone capability. Again look at the youtube video. its not a direct port from the desktop version its an optimized and modified for armed devices.

Right now I'm currently working on a kernel.. I its coming along but slow. I appreciate the support ill update the this Opp when I get home.
THIS is what I have been waiting for! I'm no dev, but I would love to see this happen and am willing to help how I can (testing, bouncing ideas off of, etc). I'll see if I can't rustle up a bit of support as well, shouldn't be hard to get a few capable souls interested, especially if you post this in the other carrier forums and see if this can be cross-device compatible for all carrier variants?

[CLOSED] SailfishOS is comming to pico!

MAKE PICO GREAT AGAIN
Hello everybody I'll port Sailfishos to pico I'll post here every information about progress. It will use SD Card since there is very low space on the /data partition. It'll be based on cm11 which will be installed to the internal /system not sdcard. I think it will be alot faster than android i think, and will be usable in 2017. If you are not planning using it as daily phone you can still play with it check out how sfos is running on it
Anybody interested in?
I'm struggling with building cm12.1 by now (sources are outdated) :/
Hmmm it will not be easy as i thought. By now it's completly not working :/
Im interesting.
It will be very hard to get it working. By now it's crashing in very, very early stage :/
No problem bro , if you cant make this rom you can try another rom to make

Good luck
Lol, cool.
Though, putting aside that maybe you should stick with cm11 as base (fewer bugs), I think the biggest worry for now should just get sources to sync and compile after 3 years of staling.
And that would be already something remarkable and appreciated on its own, I guess.

Yeah building cm is impossible for me but building sfos is o problem both cm12.1 and cm11 was sucessful (and bith not working). I'll stick with cm12.1 fo no reason (cm11 have modified frameworks_av and other repos that are provided from sfos so i have to use sfos ones so dunno how it would work). First i need to get it booting (already hwve some ideas) and then i'll try to get gui
ps: expect tons of not working things lol
ps2: i'm using cm12.1 kernel which is overclocked by default so maybe i'll set max to 800MHz permamently
ps3: whoa guys you are more interested in it than people from my moto x force port. i thought this device was already dead (porting is dead)
Let's say my interest is purely academic, but still.
And then, who knows? Maybe SFOS could even have a lower memory footprint.
Said this, just two things:
1) guess like cm11 might be less neat on mer's side, but at least on this phone it's the most that still makes video decoding (and encoding) work tbh.
2) HADK docs says salfish uses libhybris which in turn by default bases on CM. If first you don't get it to boot, I can hardly see how all the rest of the chain could be meaningful.

It's not like 'it's not booting it will no work' it's like 'its not booting so i have to fix that'
GUYS IT'S WORKING. I mean there is still no gui but gui tester worked! And it started

Well nobody (including me) have ida why lipstick (gui) is crashing so i cannot do much abot that but i'm trying to remder lipstick using surfaceflinger (android's display manager/gui). If that will not work then i'll have to wait until somebody gets idea how to fix that
Guys good news! I almost got ui! Just setup wizard is crashing (again dunno why) so you can't really do anything. But i could choose language (it's pre wizard setup) so if i only fix setup wizard then it will work! Performance isn't as great as i thought but maybe 800MHz OC will fix that (gui is just 0.5 second slow and like 5 fps). Maybe it's just because it isn't set up properly and a lot of things working badly. Ah and i think you guys already don't suspect full functionality At least not just yet
