TMOB US -- S3 as warranty/insurance replacement! - HTC One S

I am a us tmobile customer and my original phone had S4 printed on the spec list, which was located on the side of the retail box. I had some issues with the phone, which was ultimately replaced under the extended protection that I had on the phone's plan. The replacement didn't arrive in a retail box and it did not have a spec list printed on the box. Is it possible I was just sent an S3, as qf bench states that I am clocked at 1.7? I thought all US phones were S4. Whats the best way to determine this and if I were in fact sent an S3, do you think I could possibly reject the S3 replacement and request an S4?...
I guess one way would be flashing an S4 ROM and if the phone bricks then I know I had an S3

Use CPU Spy. If it is S3 it should go up to 1.7GHz. If it's an S4, the max should be 1.5GHz.
I would reject the replacement and ask for an S4. You paid for an S4, you should get one. Or ask for a discount lol.
Sent from pixels to more pixels

If it has 1,7 Ghz than it is s3. Download antutu benchmark and check phone info in there if you find any where writteb Ville C2, than you can be sure you've got s3 version.

In Bootloader , if you see VILLEC2 PVT Ship S_on RL , then it can be sure it's S3.

Check bootloader, and if it's VilleC2 then you should definitely take it up with TMOUS and demand an S4. If you paid for a version with an S4, that's exactly what you should get.

T-mobile always send replacement in plain box not the "retail" box. You're assuming it's an S3, best thing to do is check using any of the method posted above.

Huge screen. Small battery capacity. I'm sure it feels good in hand.

Battery life is probably gonna suck. But what's up with it being a Verizon exclusive? If that's true, that's terrible. It should be unlocked for GSM like the other two nexus phones. Disappointing

I just don't get the data caps. Seems to me, and I'm no genius, if carriers increase capacity, they could charge for unlimited data. A friend with an iPhone(att) is asking me about Sprint and is this || close to switching to the Nexus S 4G. He told me that he doesnt like that he cant use his device the way its meant to be used because of the 2GB cap. Caps just seem so...2005.
But I digress, I'm anxious to see real world performance on this thing.

There almost undoubtedly will be a GSM version. Do you really think Samsung is going to make a device like this and exclude the rest of the world - when both previous Nexus devices shipped as world phones?
Toss in the "confirmed" specs listing LTE/HSPA depending on carrier and you have your confirmation a GSM version will be produced. How or when it's sold within the US is another question. Verizon may have a launch exclusive, but you will see a GSM version. It's possible it may not be carrier subsidized in the US (I doubt that) or that it may merely be delayed to a later release date.
sprint also seems to be the new tmobile, adopting everything google. i cant imagine the prime not coming to sprint. i may pick up a epic touch to hold me off for a while. that is unless we get a leak of ics. that will hold me off till the prime.

And its rocking the PowerVR SGX540. Frankly, I wanted the OMAP4470 for the SGX544 and the Dual-channel LPDDR2 memory.
I'm going to be disappointed if the phone is that big.... or maybe its a 4 inch phone like the Nexus S but with a bigger screen to accommodate for having no touch sensitive keys..... I hope that's the case... I don't want a tablet, I want a smartphone.

Actually, there's also another rumour for the specs of this phone
- dual-core 1.5GHz Exynos
- dual-core PowerVR SGX543MP2
- 8 megapixels camera
- 2,050mAh battery

Which would you choose?

If you were going to buy outright and unlocked, which version of the one x would you buy?
I know that the AT&T version of the phone had some better benchmark results along with better battery life results, but I know that can be adjusted through rom/kernel, etc.
So which would you buy outright?
The international version (Im not in an LTE market) or the ATT version?
The AT&T version without a doubt. That is, if the 16gb of storage is not an issue.
i bought outright, and i got the at&t one
would opt for the Rogers

Probably this. It has the HTC branding instead of AT&T... and it also has the S4 processor which has been proven to be at least on par with Tegra3 or better. Its also been proven to be better at battery life.
Also, no locked bootloader.
The international versions has had some graphical bugs and other issues, probably related to the Tegra drivers. Some folks over in the "other" forum are saying not to expect a fix from Nvidia any time soon on this.
Also, what if they end up launching LTE in your areas sometime soon? Could be a cause for regret.
The additional storage, and probable better dev support are the only real benefits of the international version, IMO.
AT&T/HTC kept the bootloader on the Vivid locked for about a month after that phone's release. I'm not worried about it, as I think a similar thing will happen with the One X.
Yeah I just sent my 32Gb baby back for a refund due to flickering getting worse n worse. I dont know if I can live with 9.9gb but I am gonna try because I loved the phone but couldnt deal with the flickering once it got bad.
The Rogers XL. In fact, I just snagged one.
Beamed from my Rogers HTC One XL
Is there a site we can order the rogers one X from or do we just have to find us a canadian friend or hope ebay has one?
Oh no locked boot loader but it will be unlocked in a month?? Oh no the world is over smh
I bought mine outright , had a 'review unit' for a week prior. Best update, was worth the $704 (Ontario HST Included) I spent on it.
.. delegated by Nigerian princes
I'd pick the AT&T version, even if not just for LTE.

The method I used to make sure the One S I bought was an S4

I was determined to make sure that my One S was an S4 version. Given that its a pure gamble which
version you will receive when purchasing from a retailer, and the fact that the odds are now well stacked
against getting an S4 version anyway, I had to come up with a workaround for this problem.
My solution was to buy second hand, this way I could know the exact model I was buying beforehand.
To do this I singled out a potential purchasing candidate on Ebay and then sent a question to the seller asking
him to tell me the model number stated on the box. As long as this was Z520e, it was ok to purchase.
This I did and got it for about £250 (brand new on amazon they are £310).
Sorted. Or so I thought... On examining the phone I saw that the serial and IMEI numbers were different
to that which were printed on the box label. Either the phone had been put in the wrong box originally or
the phone had been out for repair and substituted for a different model. Either way it could now be an S3
or S4. I downloaded quadrant and ran the test, luckily it was an S4 Phew!
So for anyone wanting an S4 from Ebay, be sure to ask for the model number printed on the box and for
the seller to check that the serial numbers on the box match up to the phone.
I bought it in the same way but not second hand, a new one!

Can't you just check the box when the retailer brings it our of storage? the box clearly states the model number so you can tell easily, that's what I did!

You could do that, but round here it means paying about £400 for the privilege of buying from a store.
boot to bootloader!!!.if it says "ville" ==> S4 else ==> S3.
good luck!!
I got my One S from an online retailer for about 370AUD, which is just around the same as 370USD. It was specifically listed as a z520e, which made purchasing much easier.

Gonna buy Note 3. Which one should I get?

I bought an htc one a while ago and it was great for a while until I got fed up with htcs boot loader/s-off crap and now I'm thinking I'm gonna buy a Note 3. My only question is, should I get the Qualcomm or exnyos version? Is the octa-core better or is it just a gimmick?

Pretty much the same as me (cept I'm in the UK) - The Qualcomm version is LTE capable, where as the exy version is only 3G. - Depending if you buy outright or with carrier will determine which you get I guess? - If you are on a 4G plan then obviously you need the 4G model (Qualcomm)
For US get the N900T version which is the T-Mobile variant. If you use AT&T just get it unlocked. It has full bands support for AT&T and T-Mo. You can flash N9005-based ROMs to remove carrier bloat (which is why mine shows as N9005). It has a fully unlocked bootloader just like the international versions as well. If you get the N9005 it is missing LTE and if you get N900A (AT&T variant) it has a locked bootloader. All of these variants are S800 based.

Depends what you prefer - benchmarks or real world use.
The octa core S3 is pretty much the top phone on the market for most benchmarks, it is unstoppable.
In real life use, the S800 version is faster, snappier, has NO lag whatsoever, runs all games smoothly, even the top of the range ones, plus has 4k video and 4G LTE.
There is no real reason not to go for S800 when you have the choice.
The N9005 is IMHO a good choice (or any bootloader-unlocked version available in US, as some people already pointed out).
Two other things:
- vast majority (actually all that I know so far) of N9005 carrier-unlocked versions still have a "region-lock" - meaning that there are some restrictions on the SIMs that you can use
- there is also a "knox flag" which tells Samsung that the phone was "software tampered" and apparently that can void your warranty.
You should read more about the above points in the rest of the posts in this Note 3 forum.
Qualcomm ....

Always Remain Loyal to the Snapdragon.
Well, I'm not a fan boy of Qualcomm but there's no reason to go for exnyos
The situation is simple, for a little bit extra $, you get 4G compatibility as well as working flawlessly on existing 3G / 2G. Whereas exnyos you are limited to 3G / 2G. The processing power is marginally better AND it can do 4k video.
Both versions are snappy enough, i doubt you will find any differences in performance in real life use. I personally own an Octa version which I am happy with "much more than the s4 variant" but if you are located in the US S800 version will suit you better because of the higher data speed. Whereby, in less than one year time they will be both outdated :silly:

{Discussion} Torn between a HDC s4 or a moto G

My galaxy nexus radio problems and sprints terrible service in my area have made me decide that I need a change. I am looking to move to an AT&T prepaid service. My price limit is $200. I would like to have a phone that has removable batteries which the cloned s4 has. I like the size and design of the s4 better than the 4.5" moto g. The factors that are holding me back from the s4 is the lack of reviews on it. If its reliable stock or rooted, I would probably go with that. The reason the Moto G is in the running is that it will be at my door in 2 days and I know if I have any issues, I can call motorola as opposed to trying to deal with some chinese seller. The lack of reviews for the cloned s4 have me up in the air. There are threads here for the S4 but no real reviews. Can any owners comment on how they like using/owning the device?
THanks!!
I don't own it yet but i don't think you will be able to use 3g on att because of the frequency bands. You should check yourself but I think t mobile 3g will work.
