[Dev] Jellybean porting thread - Update - New port - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

Dear xda-developers members,
In other sections the JB development is started. I'll port from these phones to our Magic.
I hope I get some testers to say which one in the fastest,... so we can get it fully working.
Remember that all builds are in alpha phase and probably not for daily use!
HTC Dream/G1
HTC Hero
Downloadlink: http://www.speedyshare.com/d8e59/CM10.zip
HTC Hero CDMA
Original ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736404
Download link: http://www.speedyshare.com/tRZ5v/Hero-CDMA-CM10.zip
Still in alpha phase, but pretty fast. Sound isn't working but will be fixed soon.
Angry birds is working smooth!! So all haters who said JB porting was useless, well **** you!:victory:
HTC Droid Eris
In the coming week, I'll release more ports.
Please test it and post your comments.

downloading and will test it
thks PowerPlop to share with us your work
First impression...
Problem with mobile network, no mobile network connection!
don't appear the screen to set pin code!
Is there anyone with this problem?

He did say it was full of bugs, so I'm not surprised.
At least we have someone willing to try and report problems :victory:

Thank you for the testing.
Does it feel smoother than ICS?

Hi PowerPlop,
Maybe not so good than ICS, but it seems me good enough.
The response to touch, drill through settings menu is good and sound are ok.
The worst problem are mobile network connection.

Expecting new releases in next week!

No succes with porting from Eris yet.
Almost bricked my phone... happily I could fix it. XD

We wait for next JB release , thks for your work
and you can count with us (me for sure) to help you on test stage

Why would you try to install JB on this dinosaur-phone when ICS and GB are already running slow like hell??

Because we can. I think that's the point of Android or any open source system.
For me, is amazing that the HTC Magic, one of the first Android phone that came out, can run the newest version of the OS.
If you don't like experimenting with your phone, because it goes "slow", join the Jobs army and buy an iPhone.

I like experimenting with my phone, but at least it still has to be usable - and HTC Magic + ICS or JB is really only to see "yeah, we can", but not for more.
Joining the "Jobs army" isn't/wasn't necessary, got a SGS1 and that's just running fine even with JB.
So stop promoting Apple. :silly:

You clearly haven't had a HTC Magic. GB was indeed running less fast as FY, but ICS is faster as GB and even FY.
Now with JB, I noticed the game 'Cut the Rope' played smoother.
Everytime there's released a new version, we got a whole new phone.
It's not only because it can, but also because it's better.

I know that is still in development, but it is very fluid and fast.
good job ...
continues please
i want Android 4.1.1

The only way that i can understand this kind of comments are... that obviously that ppl are HTC empolyer and need/want that ppl buy a new smartphone
PowerPlop thanks for your effort and we wait for next releases, to give a new (and better) life to our "Legacy & Low Activity Devices"

For the mobile data issue, @powerplop, did you replace libril, libhtc-ril and libreference-ril from an ics rom, that should fix it

Well, I haven't changed much on the previous port. I was waiting the release from you.
For the moment I want to get the Eris Port booting, but after some hours still not succeeded. I can't take a logcat for some reason, so I can't find the problem.
I'm waiting for you allinoneCM10 release and then I'll make it bugfree.
Thank you for all your help!

I'll try it as soon as I can.
Progression at the moment: 0! Have tried a lot of things but nothing seems to work.:crying:
HTC Dream/G1
No possible JB ports.
HTC Hero
Downloadlink: http://www.speedyshare.com/d8e59/CM10.zip
Only ROM, not yet updated. Jordfaz is releasing his CM10. I will port that one when the boot problems are fixed.
HTC Hero CDMA
I tried to port one of Shellnutts roms, spend a lot of time on it! Seems to problem the problem is not caused by me, but is situated in the original rom.
HTC Droid Eris
No luck porting from Eris. I can get pass the installation, but I get stuck at bootlogo of my mobile provider.
I'm sorry I couldn't release any port. I'm busy this weekend, but next monday I should have some time and if possible I release a Hero and a Hero CMDA port.
If they are fast enough, I'll fix the major bugs caused by porting.
Thank you all for testing and supporting me!

Froyo repo up

Just seen on Twitter that a 'froyo-release' repo is up. New toys for devs?
i hate exams, always at wrong time.
Pity there are so few dev working with Desire, will take forever before the goodies appear. Lets hope there will be a good port of cm coming soon

Actually Desire is not 100% rooted + no perfect recovery made
so people are avoiding development.
+ many issues faced by people
Lets see. i will try my best but -> my exams end 15th june
if its done by some other person b4 that it would be awesome

You did a very nice work with the rom you provided. Lets hope we can get proper root and maybe some more attention from devs to put froyo on Desire
dude it's not released!!
it's only the sdk update that has been released
so ahmgsk you got plenty of time if your exams end the 15th june cause it will be released arround june
and hey by the way ahmgsk you are doing a great work! i really loved your roms back at the sapphire time
but i moved on to nexus because of the fast updates, preunlocked bootloader and the great support. i really hope for you guys that the development will start fo real!
i know the desire root is not perfect and the recorery is far from perfect ( probably the recovery causing usb isseu in some way) but i have never gotten an answer to why? why are we not able to acces system while in os and why is there no great recovory? limitations or just that we are not there yet?

I wonder that to, asked Paul number of times over at Modaco, but never got an answer. Its a pity with this silence, it makes everyone wonder...
HTC put in a lot of special code that locks down /system when the phone is operating in normal mode. It's a shame, and that's what's preventing full custom recovery menus and easier flashing.
I have had the Desire for 2 weeks now and I am abandoning ship. The development on the ROM's are to few for my taste. Might be back some day but I am going for the nexus from here on out.

you seem to know what you are talking about , thanks what is needed for gaining the last bit of access? did the kernel source help? and do you think consideringen what you know now that this last part of desire root will be achieved in near future?

Nexus for wife?
lol...
Just wanted to tell you all....
I sold my Desire today and have been using the Nexus for a couple of days.
Today the 2.2 update came (I am not rooted or anything) and everything is awesome.
The community around the Nexus is hissing and buzzing with creativity and that is something the Desire doesn't have.
I will not be recomending to people to get the Desire even though it is a lot cheaper here where I live (Iceland) and I will recomend for anyone to upgrade to Android 2.2 as soon as they posssibly can becouse going from 8 mflop to 38. Well you can seriously feel the difference in every move you make in the phone.
I completly agree but you're missing the facts.
Nexus One has been available since January, whereas Desire just got released last month in Europe and isn't even available in US/Canada and doesn't have a reliable root yet.
The Nexus One sold terribly, whereas the Desire is number 1 in Europe currently.
Yeah right now the N1 dev community is bigger than Desire's but it will definitly change in the following months, especially when we get a stable root.
might happen that the development will be better for the Desire later but still you will be dependent on HTC for kernels like the Hero crowd (That I just came from)
I want to be able to get real upgrades when they happen. Not when some 3'd party company says so. (And they usually seem to say very late or very never....)

Actually I think we can port cyanogen's kernel, I am trying to do it. Every day I tweak it somehow, one day it will boot
pretty foolish selling your desire. froyo for desire will launche soon, probably within weeks. After that i see no more reasons to root anyway.
but thats only my 2 cents.

[GINGERBREAD] Android 2.3 port from SDK for 32A/NR.

I made it for fun and it is NOT usable and will not be before we get official source
http://saraev.ca/signed_120810_223045.zip
working:
- data/radio (no incall microphone)
- wifi
not working: everything else
please do not report bugs. I know whats not working but can fix NOTHING for now
Good job. IMO these ports will be unusable for the next few months until cyanogen comes up with a release.
It was like that with eclair and later froyo. History tends to repeat itself.
Woot Woot, Hopefully once we get the source this can become stable. The magic lives on. Not many froyo builds I tried for the 32a werent that easy on battery life. Hopefully this turns out good. Hope the devs will work together to create a stable rom, instead of having their own builds with pros and cons.
If 2.3 ever starts working on 32A + NR, I am jumping ship asap! I miss vanilla android

I would have to agree with you except for I think I read on Cyanogen's twitter page that they will NOT be supporting first gen devices after CM6.1 which I assume meant NO ported 2.3 for us.
Hopefully I am wrong.
where is that quote? can't see it
good job!!!!!!!! hahahahaha
Did anyone1 tried on OR and cm Bcrook kernel???
i want to make a team for dev this rom to work full on magic..contact me..
nice hopefully it will fully work
Download does not work?
Really impressive work Hope to see this fully working.
what changes are needed for this to boot on 32b?
This is all well and good and I'll try it if I get my repaired phone back and can once again have a spare to play with.
However is it reasonable to expect this to ever be usable? We don't seem to be able to get a fully working 2.2 under the new radio so why would 2.3 ever get enough attention or drivers? I used 2.2 for a long time on the old radio but I really needed to use the new radio and have since gone back to 2.1 since it is now my daily driver again.
This will be great fun once I can put the Magic back to dev use.
I tested this on my g1, with a pershoots kernel over top so that it boots. And I was wondering how you got wifi to work? I tried replacing many things, but still get an error starting wifi supplicant daemon on logcat.
Just curious, not like I expect anything to ever become usable haha

hm did you replace wlan.ko ? you should
also take a look at init.sapphire.rc:
Ive changed wpa_supplicant service a little because wlan_loader is not used as in eclair/froyo roms. my *wpa_supplicant.exec* loads the firmware and then starts *real* wpa_supplicant.
I realy dont have an idea whether firmware & tiwlan.ini are different for trout/sapphire. if they are you can edit wpa_supplicant.exec to load propper firmware files..
EDIT: this will not be usable untill we get gingerbrad sources published by google. then maybe cyanogen will do a build for us. I heard he will not support sapphire/trout anmore and if and *only if* it is true I will try to make a working one. I hope it isn't true and cyanogen will still suport our devices because he can do it better than me for sure

What I know is that LG has their nose to the grindstone trying to get this update out as soon as possible and they won't quit until they are finished and TMO accepts it and sends it out to everyone. To give you an idea of the pace of development happening I received v20t about 2.5 weeks ago and the current version being tested is v21b. The version that was leaked back during the G2x launch was v20c. That's a ton of revisions in a few weeks time!

Assuming LG uses alphabetical designation consecutively, that means there have been 25 revisions since launch, and 8 in the past 2.5 weeks. And they still can't come up with an update they feel is worth releasing.
Seems time to give up on this phone, call it bad hardware or whatever, and move on.
Oh, and I don't want to hear that the update works great, they just want to make it even better. If they could get it stable at all, I have to believe they would be falling all over themselves to get it out to the public, instead of continuing to take this kind of a beating in company image.
I personally think they are fixing the hardware of the phone because it can't be fixed with software updates. That would expalin the re-launch comment. Brace yourselves for the T-Mobile G2x 2.0 in the coming weeks.

Well, I've been patient since launch day... and I am now a member of the X-G2X club. Good luck to the rest of ya'll waiting!
Why do you guys still care about this update? Being on XDA, most of you probably rooted, so why not install CM7 while you're at it? It's very stable and fixes a lot of issues with the device.
Because if we have the official update, the developers here will probably have access to hardware drivers that function in gingerbread, which MIGHT allow us to get functionality of stereo bluetooth and high def video mirroring through hdmi, among other things.

Yea cm7 is great and all but its truly not there fully...a2dp gps and sdcard amongst the most obvious issues.
Really the value of a STABLE gb rom is that a lot of the drivers and system stuff can be moved to a modded ROM. It will be great for all the ROMs when LG gets this out!

I don't know about their revision naming scheme, i.e. what constitutes an increase in revision number. And I don't think you do.
Usually more revision means more bugs fixed and better QA testing.

you can contact with guys from desire hd thread, they working hard too on ICS porting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343361
Do you think we can manage to integrate Sense into it as well? I have no idea about how the Sense manages stuff..
Also, need to see kernel-side differences as well if there are any..
I can also help with something I guess - I am not so prune to download 7GB of Source code though
As far as I know, Sense is very deeply integrated into the OS, because else there would be a possibility for people to get it running on AOSP ROMs. So I think it will be really difficult to get Sense running on ICS (or impossible, dare I say).
Kernel-related: yeah, this is something I'm not sure about. I don't know if the kernel which gets built from the source will run, or else we'll need to try a GingerBread Kernel running with ICS.
That is my only concern actually, but as time passes by, we will learn more!
I'm in

Ok, thanks to a couple of minutes of spare time i did a first port of the Nexus One build, so all credits is to texasice. I use his base because my lack of time and with this PC probably it takes days to build from sources.
Working and not are the same from my SDK port (always because of missing drivers). No ETA for a download link and no ETA for updates, reasons are in my previuos post.
Would be extremely happy to test any new builds

any words on official ics for tmobile mytouch 4g?

Hi sea buddies,
I just have a general question why mytouch 4g is not in the list of ics devices? Desire hd was released on September 2010 and it is confirmed ics where are my touch was on October and global release on November 2010... Both have same processor speed and stuffs... Are we getting ignored of ics??
I do not Wanadoo root? Coz I am a roomy at this.... Please let me know urs valuable comments..
Cheers,
Renga

I'm sure you're using a translator, but I still lol-ed at that. Sea buddies?
Not only is the DHD getting ICS, but so is the Thunderbolt which is also essentially identical spec-wise. Because of the MT4G's custom version of Sense, I doubt we'll ever see ICS officially.
@fb that was a typo what i wanted to type was xda.. lolzzz

yeah +1
we didn't even get Sense 3.0. doubt we'll be seeing a official Mysense ICS for the Glacier. but of course, we could always port from the doubleshot...
totally agree though, MT4G is wayyyy capable of ICS...
Like I said before. Were not getting ics officially on the mt4g. The reason because the mt4g is a T-Mobile official branded device. Hence the lame mysense that it came with.
I don't think there will be an official ics version for this as it is old now.
How did the desire HD get then.. its a month older than this? :S
on the list here :- http://www.xda-developers.com/android/htc-update-list-on-android-ice-cream-sandwich-upgrades/
posted by a fellow xda mate.. mytouch 4g is also available on expected ics list.. tmo please make this one count for ics..

Desire HD is a well known device. It once was HTC's flagship. Also, its inteernational, so a lot of people use and love it. It's a popular device... Of tmobile was to give us ICS, it would be pretty hard

This... and T-Mobile seems to have shifted away from Sense to LG's POS framework with the myTouch line, so as far as T-Mobile goes, we're pretty much at EOL. Any official update we get would be a treat.
Regardless, HTC plans to officially update the HTC Rhyme, Desire HD, Thunderbolt.. all of those are powered by the MSM8255 chipset with that sexy 7x30 kernel, Adreno 205, and 1GHz Snapgragon CPU. We probably wouldn't have to do much once they all get their updates. Of course though, only greif we should have is camera. Possibly video decoding too.

It's because Desire HD is a flagship device, whereas myTouch 4G is just some random ol' device T-Mobile made after they saw the Desire HD and release that the myTouch 3G Slide wasn't cutting it anymore.

I am not trying to be a jerk, but an official ICS rom would be nice as all the others especially for this phone are extremely buggy, and in my opinion unusable at this time. There are too many bugs, crashes, slowdowns and things that plainly don't work (like you know the basic function of calling people and people actually hearing you, or it actually working.)
I am sorry if this sounds pissy but I am just sick of these ROM's not working, and having to constantly wipe and re flash my phone over and over again, and trying out different ROMs. Finally finding one that works, I am just going to stick with MIUI until ICS officially works correctly and is basically bug free. it's just not worth to upgrade for it flashiness.
I know the DEV's on these boards try hard, DON'T GET ME WRONG. I have been on here since the Android G1 came out, and remember MANUALLY rooting that thing from the telnetD command. It's not that I don't have patience, but at this point with all the work DEV's do on phones now I can't understand how so many ROM's are still really buggy, and get constantly broken in an update, please release working firmware.
I understand that ultimately the DEV's are not responsible for us flashing with unofficial firmware, but you are still releasing YOUR firmware to the public for people to use, to get recognition. This is a catch-22 scenario, where yes your are not responsible, but almost expect people to use your firmware for either recognition or donations. I can't decide who to donate to anymore either, there are just too many DEV's working on too many things at once, stick to ONE ROM. Not five at a time. It's not realistic.
I think at this point, instead of every DEV working individually on there own ROM's, I think every DEV should just combine brain power and make the ultimate ICS ROM. At this rate, a stable ICS ROM will not be out for months. The source code was released in November, and it is now February, and the same bugs in ICS (camera not working), are still here.
It's not only that, constantly re doing my APPS gets really annoying. I am not paying for Titanium Backup, when I am downloading FREE firmware. Every firmware at this point, like MIUI, should have a BACKUP and RESTORE option built in for APPS, so when you do this over and over again, you don't have to pay for Titanium Backup, or re download your APPs, configure your WIFI, set your CPU, redo your menu options, redo your desktop, redo your shortcuts, your widgets, your background etc. etc. etc. over and over again.
I understand this is a different framework, but seriously now. Please stop releasing almost unusable firmware. I am kind of sick of being a beta tester, I do not mind reporting bugs. But at this rate I will destroy my NAND on my phone from wiping and flashing so much. Which CAN happen, and eventually will happen. If you seriously want me to be a beta tester for your firmware, give me a secondary pone and I will be happy to constantly flash and reflash the phone over and over again to test this.
I am sorry if this sounds *****y, but it just starting to get on my nerves. I mean it comes to a point, is this phone even worth it? I can see DEV's are mainly focusing on the newer phones, I do not blame them. But at this point if you want to release your work and have people see how good you are at what you do, ask people to be a beta tester and send them a testing phone so they don't have to risk destroying there phone.
Please forgive me I don't want this to be perceived as trolling but, I have to get this out before I get this out more immaturely somewhere else. I am trying to explain and get things out as professionally as I can.
Thanks

I appreciate your frustration and impatience for a fully functional ICS ROM. I'm sure most of us (including the dev) are in this boat. I do take exception to you complaining about being a beta tester. This is your choice. The dev has not misled you in any way as to the code quality:
[ROM/WIP][AOSP] CynogenMod 9.0.0 Alpha [ICS][4.0.3][02.14.2012]
[ROM][ICS][Beta][2.2.3] MIUI V4 || Unofficial Port for MT4G [UPDATED 02.07.2012]
[ROM/WIP][02-14-2012][AOSP] Virtuous Quattro Beta r1 [ICS][4.0.3]
[ROM][ICS][AOSP][Beta 7.1] .: :: Creamed Glacier :: :. [UPDATED 02.07.2012]
It sounds like you are not a good candidate for being an alpha/beta tester and you may want to hold off until you see "Alpha","Beta", or "WIP" (work in progress) disappear from the ROM titles.
