What I know is that LG has their nose to the grindstone trying to get this update out as soon as possible and they won't quit until they are finished and TMO accepts it and sends it out to everyone. To give you an idea of the pace of development happening I received v20t about 2.5 weeks ago and the current version being tested is v21b. The version that was leaked back during the G2x launch was v20c. That's a ton of revisions in a few weeks time!

Assuming LG uses alphabetical designation consecutively, that means there have been 25 revisions since launch, and 8 in the past 2.5 weeks. And they still can't come up with an update they feel is worth releasing.
Seems time to give up on this phone, call it bad hardware or whatever, and move on.
Oh, and I don't want to hear that the update works great, they just want to make it even better. If they could get it stable at all, I have to believe they would be falling all over themselves to get it out to the public, instead of continuing to take this kind of a beating in company image.
I personally think they are fixing the hardware of the phone because it can't be fixed with software updates. That would expalin the re-launch comment. Brace yourselves for the T-Mobile G2x 2.0 in the coming weeks.

----------------it's NEWS

I have a feeling if anything was remotely close to being released, there would be another leaked rom and there hasn't been. So, yeah.

The forum mod post is a bit old- this is tmonews response to a slow news day.

a month out from when. that's how the trick the stupid consumers such a us. saying it will be a month out. you didnt see us crossing our fingers behind our backs meaning a month out from the summer of 2012.

Well, I've been patient since launch day... and I am now a member of the X-G2X club. Good luck to the rest of ya'll waiting!

Why do you guys still care about this update? Being on XDA, most of you probably rooted, so why not install CM7 while you're at it? It's very stable and fixes a lot of issues with the device.

Because if we have the official update, the developers here will probably have access to hardware drivers that function in gingerbread, which MIGHT allow us to get functionality of stereo bluetooth and high def video mirroring through hdmi, among other things.

Because none of those roms is 100% functional and still exhibit the same bugs as the stock rom. There is no GB kernel.

u think CM7 is smooth ?? is it your first android man?
u will see performance from CM7 after 3 weeks when u will get official update....
Now it's just FAKE 2.3.4....why? go ask Morfic or Faux123, i didn't have a time

Yea cm7 is great and all but its truly not there fully...a2dp gps and sdcard amongst the most obvious issues.
Really the value of a STABLE gb rom is that a lot of the drivers and system stuff can be moved to a modded ROM. It will be great for all the ROMs when LG gets this out!

Note the mods reply and the number of builds/revisions they are going through. There is work going on for the update, and they also have to update the 2x at the same time, while launching the 3d and updating the G slate. Stock rom has worked well and GB will be welcome with its better battery mngmnt

I don't know about their revision naming scheme, i.e. what constitutes an increase in revision number. And I don't think you do.
Usually more revision means more bugs fixed and better QA testing.

There's a leak posted at Android Development section, but I don't recommend it except you exactly know what you're doing.
The phone hasn't even been out a month. Just over 3 weeks. We know it's out there in a semi-final form because we have the leaked version.
Lets just pray to god that it isn't the final version!

The leaked version is H O R R I B L E.
I encountered a lot of crashes and reboots during 2 days of test (I even never encounter ONE SINGLE reboot with V10f) and I have to go back to original V10f. Moreover, the kernel IS NOT CHANGED, so NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER expect the leaked version fix any problem.
The 4G icon looks E X T R E M E L Y U G L Y and I can't believe why T-Mobile/LG put such icon there. The signal bar doesn't turn green when internet is ready like NS.
Many of paid apps don't appear on market (including slingplayer).
Streamfurious is still NOT compatible with leaked version.
Dead internet browser (including Skyfire and default one).
Dead email client.
Leave leaked version for developers to work these junk out.
Yea just curious if anyone had heard anything more about the ota. I've not been able to find anything since the original blurb. Gave us a nugget and then poof. I refuse to use leaked versions after all the leaked versions reeked havoc on the captivates and vibrants. Just seeking if peeps might have found anything.

Where is the 2.3 update??? Probably the same place as your patience
Also the 2.3 leak has been pretty stable for me.. I'm running Eagle Blood which is based off the leak.. I'm really a CM guy but CM 7 is just not as stable right now as Eagle Blood has been for me
^thought the same thing with galaxy s leaks and they were months away. That's the scary part to all of this. I was highly disappointed to find it came with 2.2 but liked it enough to buy anyhow on the promise of an almost immediate update.

screw patience
we have been patient. i was told that this phone would have an updated right after release. not a month later, but within days. that's what customer service told me, the t-mobile sales rep, and what about that who bull that it's "coming sooner than youd expect" or "its right the corner" or even "wait won't be long" and "coming soon!" all this quotes from t-mobile. Gingerbread was announced to be coming to this phone long before it the phone came out. i personally had the impression it would be on the phone already and the ONLY reason i was ok with purchasing a Froyo phone after having to deal with my Vibrant SGS for 10 months with only 1 update 6 months after froyo was released for everyone else, 8 months almost for vibrant. i'm done being patient. i expect more from a $500-$600 phone (most advanced phone when it was released). I have patients but there are limits. that "sooner than youd think line" has been said for weeks. and i know many many people feel the same way.
i personally think this could be another intentional put off by t-mobile to build up sensation release or other gingerbread stock phones being annouced/released like froyo was for vibrant (until a rep came out and leaked that it was being held off for the 4g vibrant release, then it was released within a week after it took half a year). this is a Google phone, which is why i purchased it so i would get updates fast like the other google devices have. and this phone needs it's updated for fixes ASAP before the SGS 2 is officially released or the Sensation, and then people will just move on. just my personal feelings. take this post however.
If there is one thing I've learned since being one of the first to have an Android phone is that no manufacturer, carrier, or even Google will promise a "date" for software updates. The availability of an update is announced when the update is available. Would you rather have something that is half-baked? Maybe that is why the GB build was leaked....to appease the whiners until it is really ready. I mean really, hasn't it been a month since the phone's been released? Perhaps the g2x (o2x) was rushed out the door with only 2.2 to be the first tegra2, but i would rather get it with 2.2 on it now than wait for it to have 2.3 to be released.
Even Cyanogen has said this, LOL, and I paraphrase: "It will be ready when it's ready. Now quit asking about release dates."

That's what she said
Learn how to root, learn how to flash... BOOM gingerbread. The newest nightly of CM7 (build 17) is pretty dang stable to me. It has less bugs than the stock ROM I believe. I never trust a word carriers say. Notice how much they said GB would be available right after release. They want to buy the phone with high expectations and then once their numbers are high enough, take their time. Its what always happens. SGS promissed froyo "soon" after release and it took many many many months (6-8?). Cyanogen however has always had either reasonable releases or sometimes faster than expected releases. I personally bought this phone with every intention of rooting and hacking the first day I bought it. To me thats the main advantage of buying a google experience phone.
After the botched leaks and roms that came with the sgs 's ill be leaving this phone stock with root until the official release comes. The thread wasn't a debate. Simply a question. Did some digging on my own and found nothing. Doesn't hurt to ask if others heard something else. We have many people on this site who work for companies that do have privy info.
So again just a question not a discussion carry on.

Look, it's not hard to connect the dots here:
We've heard numerous people say T-Mobile has been giving employees G2X's with Gingerbread for bug testing over the past month or so. We've even seen it on G2Xs at E3.
Yesterday, LG tweeted that the Gingerbread update would 'probably not be released today' and that they're trying to release it ASAP.
Within the last 24 hours, LG Forum mods have stated to count on it being released by the end of June at the latest. They've also said 'if all goes well, it will be released very soon.'
Now, based on those three things, let's use our thinking caps: LG has probably sent a final version of the GB update to T-Mobile for bug testing (we know they've been doing this because of point #1.) It was likely sent to T-Mobile within the past few days, which is not enough time to thoroughly test and is why LG tweeted that it probably wouldn't be released yesterday (point #2.) They haven't released a date yet because they don't know if there are any unforeseen bugs, but 'if all goes well' (i.e., no bugs are found in the latest build), it should be released immediately (point #3.)
It's very clear the update is coming and they're trying their best to resolve all of the issues people have been complaining about. Do you understand what a disaster it would be if they released an update that didn't fix the issues the phone currently has? They're obviously trying to fix everything that they can and are unwilling to push out a buggy update for the sake of doing so. 1-2 weeks is a very reasonable timeline and if the internal T-Mobile testing goes well we will most likely see it by Tuesday, the first day of Summer, which they've said would be the release date all along.

We've seen a leaked GB ROM, which was still sitting on the same kernel; it exhibited all the same issues that people have complained about.
A close look at the various GB 'leak' videos also show the same kernel.
I sure hope we see something soon, but if it's 'gingerbread' running on the existing kernel...I'm not hopeful. There could be a considerable number of fixes in the NVidia user space daemons, that would be a plus, but without a kernel rev? I'm thinking that would be a problem.
Hey DebauchedSloth, first thank you for your work on the battery driver. I'm unaware of any videos that actually show builds of Gingerbread that are more recent than the leak that came out almost a month and a half ago. I agree that it would be a bad move to not update the kernel, but there's no saying that they won't and I'm not sure if those leak videos are a reliable indicator of what the final update will be like.
Out of curiosity, since Faux and others have done work on custom kernels, is it really a problem if LG doesn't update theirs? It seems like something that the current G2X devs can't fix is ****ty drivers and unexposed Tegra features, but the kernel is fair game for tweaking and modifying. All I'm hoping to get from the GB update is a more stable set of hardware drivers, so that custom ROMs won't be stuck with the same bugs that the stock ROM has.

What about other phones with same or older kernel? Do they have same reboot/freeze issue? If not, I believe drivers are the culprit for most of the issues we've seen on G2x.
The GB leak is just "GB" leak, which means it doesn't include the driver fixes. So it's not a surprise that it still has same issues Froyo G2x has.
Daaaamn again ?

+1 on software side issues. Why? Because so far EB gb v1.1 doesn't hang up nor reboots on me unlike other. I don't know what he is doing. Maybe it's just placibo, maybe it's not but it works for me.
Also, coming from HD2 (hyperdroid builds), I learn to wait for the better roms.
Hopefully, there will really be an official update for our g2x this year.

The kernel is fair game, but a lot of the hardware control is in the NVidia user space process. So, for example, the G2X has the same WM8994 sound chip that the Nexus S has, but control of that is in the NV userspace daemon, so a full on voodoo sound driver is not really possible. You can hack at some of the stuff, which I did in one of my patches to faux's kernel, but it really doesn't work so well and you can't go all out.
Similarly, the battery driver really needs access to the underlying charge controller and is basically guessing at the charge state by reading what it can (current voltage.) You can see your self how well that works. Poorly.
So we wait on LG/NV for fixes.
Or we go ahead and spend a lot of time and effort to work around this, if it's even possible in some cases.
Just Googled "Out by Summer". I was referred to a School summer lunch program, a few Alice Cooper videos, and a few other things. But no magic release date for GB on the G2x.
If the date is not in Google...its no where.
It'll be here. Evidence proves it to be very soon.

Thought that was because the Yamaha sound chip was no good. G2X has a great chip, but no open source drivers (since the driver itself is in the NV binary blob).
Doubt Gingerbread will fix that. Hopefully will make things more stable...but more hackable? Doubt it.

Sensation gets 2.3.4 when do we???

I know we just got 2.3.3 but I'm just wandering why they getting an update so fast and who knows when we will get another one

Probably never, there are rumors of the g2x getting ICS 4.0 sometime, although that is highly unlikely. You can try out CM7 for 2.3.5.
What he said
LG and T-Mobile won't come out with any updates. LG releasing the source code, they abandoned support.
XDA is only reason this phone gets any kind of love and support.
There is hardly anything noticeable between 2.3.3, 2.3.4, and 2.3.5.
If you want a newer version, do a custom rom. I can't understand why people, on XDA especially, fight so hard to stay on a stock rom that is old and lacking. My neighbor bought a G2x the other day and I NVFlashed his phone in like 4 minutes (mostly due to downloading and finding the XDA thread for the NVFlasher).
Gingerbread is available in a plethera of roms for our device. I'd much rather LG focus their efforts on a timely ICS release.
I just wish nvidia would release drivers. I would love a2dp on the newer roms

I hope we don't get 2.3.4 or 2.3.6 if that comes. I want LG to just focus on getting out 2.4 as near as available as possible. All the learning from vanilla with driver fixes should make 2.4 a snap.
At this point nothing about 2.3 any variants makes any difference after 2.3.3
The G2X vanilla should easily be able to handle Android 4, or 2.4 whatever its named sandwich. The hardware is spec. And should be able to get onto the next version after Ice Cream, at that time it will be like a basic model that can still easily support.
I am expecting 2 more full releases on the phone, as the cost for LG to do, with the drivers worked out, should be very minimal.
Worse case, LG can license a custom ROM, and toss that out for a couple hundred K. 2 man years cost.

I hope we don't get 2.3.4 or 2.3.6 if that comes. I want LG to just focus on getting out 2.4 as near as available as possible. All the learning from vanilla with driver fixes should make 2.4 a snap.

It is nice to see you post something other than the CAL... if you really think LG is gonna release anything other than maybe a small updae which i also doubt. maybe youll join with the CAL.. This is it even LG has said they dont even plan on bringing out the camera appp which i thought they would at least do.
As burk said no proof either way. But history means a lot and sicne this debacle i have looked at lg and see this has been nothing new with them. and Updates have been only carrier pushed for bugs from what i have read.
Yes it would be nice to see something new and great for the phone from LG but dont hold your breath.
hmmm
I would rather LG focus on getting all the bugs fix with this phone rather than releaseing a new os version for it plauged with the same issues and froyo and gingerbread

Wouldn't actually work since gtalk works using NEON which our processors don't have. I haven't tried the alternatives (like vtalk our vtok, something like that) but they don't apparently work well. google has to fix it unless there's been a development I missed.

After the fiasco of 2.3.3, LG is never going to touch this phone ever again. It's dead in the water for all they care, and Tmo isn't going to pressure them into updating because they're focused on pimping the Sensation right now.
CyanogenMod is the only way this phone will ever see ICS, I would put money on that.

ICS on G2x

It seems like we might have a chance of getting it. Engadget has a post up saying all 2.3 devices after.the nexus s should get ICS being that the nexus s is getting it....and we technically have a stock build of android. So I'm keeping my hopes up that we still have a chance of getting it.....what are your thoughts?

I think if people show some positive encouragement to LG to work with and for purchasers of the p999 rather than the immature hostility that permeates several of the threads at the LG forum an update should happen. It is still and active model in tmos system.

I was under the impression the G2x runs a stock gingerbread looking skin over LG framework. As in, just looks stock, not actually stock. http://twitter.com/#!/CM_arcee/status/63255644676960256
Seeing how much LG pooped the diaper on the GB update, I wouldn't hold your breath for anything official in the short term.
I thought they are suppose to support the android phones software upto date in period of 18months after they releas3 it? If the phone hardware can support it? Well thats what google said. I don't think lg have choice.

But the rain came back and the birds stopped singing soon after the Google I/O Day One keynote. Barra’s comments set off a wave of excitement, but only because people misunderstood his words. Google is not forcing carriers or manufacturers to update their phones; it’s simply working with them to make updates faster and more likely.

I would say a G2x ICS update is totally a possibility, I just wouldnt expect LG to drop it anytime soon. Seeing how long it took LG to release GB, if the G2x does get an official update I doubt it would be before next summer.

I don't care what operating system version my G2x is running as long as the radios and/or drivers that control them just don't work.
I've had 4 G2Xes, on 2.2 and 2.3, with multiple sim cards and used them in many areas of the US. They simply do no stay connected to the network. I have to reboot them manually several times a day to maintain connectivity/functionality. The Android part works fine especially since the GB update, but the phone part, and even the WiFi and GPS parts just are flaky as hell. If they don't fix that, putting ICS on this phone will not be any better an experience.
And I'd bet $100 LG never updates this phone again. They are SO washing their hands of it, it's a disaster they don't want to "waste" any more time and money on even if that means screwing thousands of customers. The users know it, LG knows it, T-mobile knows it, but they are not admitting it, because responsibly dealing with this disaster would cost them a fortune. For T-mobile/LG to fix this problem they'd have to send every G2X owner a different model phone that isn't fundamentally flawed.
I wouldn't count on it.

My G2x was also a POS I got it (like a fool) the day it came out, and when i first got it it sucked so bad after the second day i had it it went back in the box and sat on the closet shelf and I went back to my Nokia N8 but a month or so ago i got it out and just for the hell i played around with some ROMs and have been running Weapon G2x 2.4 without a single flaw or hiccup since.

I have two G2Xes, one with CM7.1 one with stock GB. They both suck at staying connected to the network. Perhaps it's time to try another distro, but I'm pretty convinced the baseband is fundamentally flawed. If I stay in the same place I start to think it's all working, then I drive somewhere and realise how useless this phone is. I wanted to love this phone so much, on paper it's just awesome, perfect for me. In reality it's garbage and I can't wait to be rid of it. I've wasted weeks of my life on this useless thing thinking surely it can be made to work.
I got a G2x early on. Reboots every other day in the beginning, etc.
Now i'm pretty stable, can go more than a week. Just have GPS lock issues.
Rooted, stock GB, using Go Launcher and SetCPU.

I dunno, the G2x is like the black sheep any more. I don't see anything about it. LGs track record thus far doesn't look good in regards to updates. I bet CM team will get something stable on ICS but your looking at months...
Not a big deal. Well probably have themes and apps that could pretty closely replicate ICS while still using GB. On the nexus one, I used a GB theme on Froyo for a while before actually switching. A nice theme and new Widgets will ease the wait.
I run MIUI and Faux 4.3 and have no network issues what so ever.... that's actually what kept me on MIUI for so long... and now I'm addicted. MIUI works fantastic minus wifi calling.

For me MMS doesn't work on MIUI. Only reason I'm not on it.
I agree though, don't think LG will give us the update officially. It's kind of sad that Google is letting it's platforms get so dispersed. I mean both Apple and Microsoft have the updates down-pact.

What ROM are you using? My MMS does not work either, I am on Xboarder's ROM(OTA Tweaked) and whenever I have wifi+2g or wifi+4g I cannot send out an MMS. If I want to send out MMS I have to turn off wifi, switch 2g on, then switch 2g off, then finally stick with 2g or 4g and then TRY to send out the MMS sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

how can you say LG took long to update to Gingerbread. i still have my vibrant and galaxy s 4g and their still have not yet come out with gingerbread on them. imagine that after over a year.
lets see the g2x came out on april 20th
and gingerbread was july 15th
thats 85 days thats 4 months since it released date
i think LG was pretty fast with the update.
comparing to others brands
my g2x never had any problems at all
So what you guys are saying is I should return my G2X? ha I live in Milwaukee, WI and have heard good things about tmobile, why I switched and 4G is stable here. I'm still in my 14 day window and just wondering if anyone thinks I should get a better phone?

Thunderbolt was released two months before the Charge, and I believe the Revolution was released around the same time as the Charge. So naturally the Thunderbolt update would be released before the Charge update. Actually the Thunderbolt already had one release that was pulled a day or two later because of problems. So based on the phone release timeline, this makes sense. We're basically next in line. We're not getting screwed or cheated. Yes, it's taken a long time, but that's big red for you.
We shouldn't have to flash a custom rom to get gingerbread. We currently have the best phone on verizon's lineup (most people can agree the bionic is garbage) and its the last phone stuck on froyo. Unacceptable.

Not trying to put out your frustrations but look at it this way. The way that technology is, Samsung (and all other OEM manufactures) are loosing money updating their current devices.
Technology is changing so fast that most companies have almost all their devs working on future devices. In the company I work for, the most senior devs work on future projects because they are trusted with their work. While the junior devs work on or updating last years crap.

The problem is that we should have it already. The Thunderbolt came out before the Charge so naturally it would get updated before us. But the Revolution came out after the Charge and now its getting updated. Its just frustrating that our "flagship" device is getting skipped over (for right now).

Flashing a Rom is NOT a solution. I'm sorry but I hate when people say this. A phone as new as the charge should have official updates. This and having crappy phones or basicly the same.phone coming out 2 months later is what's killing Android.

It's not about features, it's about simply getting the updates that we should be getting while phones like the Revolution and even way older phones are getting the GB update. For all we know, the OTA could be better than the ROMs (complete sarcasm here). Still, it's just frustrating to not be "officially" updated.

Heh, the level of complacency among some Android users is staggering isn't it? Only on Android can you buy a "flagship" handset that not only ships with an outdated OS (froyo), but won't be eligible for an official update announced within ~six months of the device's release (ICS).
To anyone who thinks it isn't an issue: Google wouldn't be trying to fix it if it weren't a problem.

And, Google is trying to fix it, but when any other new business management steps in to fix a problem. They focus all their resource's into preventative measures for future products. It take a major crisis for them to reach back to a product already behind the curve, and spend any real resources.
I am also disappointed that they are not paying attention to the first lte phone to keep debugging the new network. I think that big red's to blame, for their are many, with bad data problems.
I also think that we should have had another OTA update, but most app's functionality has been ported thru to 2.2 SO, I think an official udate to GB is going to be a long time coming.

Oh I can't wait until it does drop. The kernels that will come available will blown away what we have now even though they are no slouch either. However I do not feel entitled to an upgrade either. Back when I had dumb phones I never EXPECTED more than what the phone came with. I do see that the ecosystem around smartphones is a different animal but also am a developer for a fortune 200 financial services company. Based on my experience in the IT industry and dealing with business partners and their reasoning behind funding this and not funding that, and seeing actual numbers I can totally see the justification behind updates for already released phones not being a priority, even if I don't like it, it's the reality of the situation.
official GB probably comes in 2 months, it goes according to verizon's speed on releasing GB.
This is my experience of the Droid 2 not getting GB until August this year.
