So since I can't post on dev threads yet I'll post here. Anyone know why I can't get OTA updates to work with my current ROM? Running Communisation 1.1.5 and got an alert for an available update to 1.1.6 but when I try to download it OTA Updater says "There was an error with the download!" I can download other things fine and have suffcient memory on my phone for it. Do I assume its a developer error? No one has posted anything about it on the devs thread for this ROM.

If no one has posted it its like something up at your end, and questions like this shouldnt be posted in the development forum... because its not development. Your best bet will be to post in the Q&A for your device so that users of this ROM can help you
^^^
And, as far as I know, you will not be able to receive official updates if you are using custom roms (since they are unofficial)...
But that could differ from device to device...

hello all, nice to be here.
Tmobile sent out a software update to my phone this morning, did any one else get one?
I was about to start modding stuff like taking off touchwiz. Would a software update make doing this harder?
It reads,
'congratulations!
T mobile has sent you a new software update for your device.
To proceed with installation select next.'
It's possible that this update might keep me from modding certain things right?
Any details known about the update?

Is it just KD1? I know that rolled out from tmobile recently.
It's kd1 update. We have had a deodexed and rooted version available for Odin flashing here for a while. I recommend using it instead of the tmo version. Look up Whitehawkx kd1 thread here on the forum and follow the directions in the op if you want to try it out.
Also an fyi to avoid flames--this is the dev forum. Questions should go in general forum. We are trying to keep things organized so folks can find what they need--and to keep Mr. Clown (forum mod) happy!

Sorry I thought this was more of a dev question. Thanks for the heads up and the info.

Since the galaxy s in the UK got the gingerbread update can we use that as a 2.3 base to build roms on?

That wasn'tithe Galaxy S 4G so unfortunately no...

So we cant even use it as a base? We are porting vibrant roms now. I'd assume the same process would need to be done and the button mappings changed right?
I doubt it, not yet anyway... as you can tell they're having a bit of trouble porting froyo roms

Not OTA from ATT.
Someone usually posts them in stock form and then custom roms are made.
There is a Q&A subforum....

Thanks, sorry for posting this here, i read your thread after i did it.
Hey guys, I have a possible workaround until someone figures out how to unlock the bootloader.
I've heard countless people saying that the only differences between the US versions of the Galaxy S III is the radio. So, since we don't have an unlocked bootloader anyway, flashing a ROM in recovery wouldn't mess with the kernel OR the radio.
I've tried flashing a Cyanogenmod nightly for the AT&T version but I got this message:
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") =="d2att"
Installation aborted.
Is there any way to work around this to attempt an unofficial port?
This isn't R&D, it is just a question, and therefor still belongs in Q&A since YOU are not DEVELOPING it.
DO NOT POST A THREAD IN DEVELOPMENT UNLESS YOU DEVELOP SOMETHING
Message received... but can anyone post an answer to my question?

I don't think it will work due to the kernal and bootloader configuration. I'm no developer, but i'd recommend against trying it until someone with more knowledge says they have a working version or a proper work around. If you do, the chance of bricking your device is over 9,000%! Oh wait, that isn't right....
-- Just wait for a proper. I don't believe it will work. And the AT&T one is still buggy itself. (camera, USB, etc).

You need to edit the update script to read your device instead of the AT&T one, as long as the mount points on both devices are the same I don't think it could do any harm

Seriously, do your research. 1) The ATT boot loader IS NOT locked. 2) You can't even post in the correct section no one wants to help us.
Is anyone working on getting a version of the official jellybean that just dropped out?

First off, mandatory comment about asking questions in the wrong forum.
Secondly, I wouldn't expect anything to be released until asus officially releases the update file and/or source code on their website.

I was curious as well. I have the ASuS nag screen coming up saying I have downloaded it and asking me to update. Says Flash and WIFI Direct are not supported and that would probably be a deal killer for me. I would like to know the impact on my root access and pending flash.

As far as meeting your correct forum standards, I have a ROM pending install from this thread and would want to know the effect of this update on installation.
As far as expecting anything I would say that test has been met in that it came across as an update from ASUS. You might not have seen that depending on the ROM you are on, so could you please lighten up? It is a valid question and it does have an impact on development, and JB rom issues that seem to abound. Perhaps there are some fixes in this.
If you want a custom rom within 24 hours of the official jellybean release, make one yourself.
Of course there will be custom rom coming out soon.....
I pulled in JB this morning, trying to figure out how to get to Google Now.

This may come across as rude, but I was just pointing out the site rules. Development is for things that someone has created not for questions in general. As for it affecting your ROM pending install, I'd like to point out that you installing a ROM is not development.
As for Asus releasing the update, they have released the update ota. This ota does not come to anyone with an unlocked device, and it does not change the fact that the latest released source code/ota available from asus(from the website not ota) is for 9.4.3.30. In my opinion there should not be an expectation of a stock based rom released before asus has released it on their site due to the fact that anyone with an unlocked device doesn't have access to it.
So I have been reading alot of post saying that the OTA is released in Asia. So I have an AT&T A2 from the US that's rooted and has cheesecake installed. Is there anything that I need to do to have a successful update? I'm on 2.3.6 right now and as far as I know I haven't changed any of my system files, other than how I look for updates.

Good sir, there are MANY posts on how to get your A2 on ICS. We officially have three ICS leaks for this phone.
Only ONE of which you can roll back to GB with. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779968
And please, from now on use the search bar and search for your answers before posting a new thread.

And yet another ICS Thread. I sense the same when JB leaks roll out.
Ok folks, use the search button and you shall be rewarded. I know people can be cautious when jumping to another OS, but there's no need to start new threads for things that have already been covered. Just post your issues in the current threads, and they will get answered.
So, thread closed.
