There's a couple of good stock-based roms available right now. The one I'm on works very well and has really improved my experience with the TF700. I believe that there will be more development once JellyBean drops and especially with source code. There are a number of drivers that can't just be ported over from the TF201 or TF300, mostly relating to the high resolution screen. So patience is needed for right now (so I keep telling myself, crackflasher that I am).

so over all r u 100% happy with the tablet

Based on my experience, only popular devices get a lot of attention from developers, simply because most developers will only develop ROMs and hack for devices that they own. Given the Infinity's high price tag, I don't think a lot of people will buy it in the first place, including developers on xda. Personally, I believe that anyone hoping for a vibrant hacking community for the Infinity will be sorely disappointed.

High price tag? For what it offers its actually a very reasonable/competitive price. For 499 your getting 32gb with the latest Tegra 3 processor and FHD screen!
Honestly think that devs are waiting for Jelly Bean Project Butter to hit. why waste too much time with ICS when JB is just around the corner.

I agree, for the price you actually get quite a bit. That same price will get you a galaxy note 10.1 if you can stand to look at the horrible screen on it.
I personally think a lot of devs may be waiting for a nexus 10 tablet to hit.

Personally i think more devs are leaning towards nexus or samsung devices and here is why:
Nexus devices are stock android. Very easy to make custom roms.
Samsung gives the dev community sources, Odin, and other tools needed to make custom roms. Since most of the work is already done it is a lot easier to customize the software with less work. Sammy higher end devices also tend to be built better although with a more plastic feel. (I've dropped my S2 a thousand times, no broken screens. I've seen friends drop other phones just once with devistating results. Lighter materials = less intertia = more chance of life)
Also, i agree with the JB suggestion, why spend time and effort modifying something we have now when we know JB dropped for the 300 and is due to drop for the prime and 700 in the next few weeks?

I guess ASUS uses the iPad as a reference point for pricing in the US, thus the price tag of US$499, and you are correct in saying that the price is reasonable enough. However, for the rest of the world (mostly Asia), ASUS does not seem to follow that pricing strategy (I also think ASUS has to make some compromises on margin to arrive at US$499 in order to build a better brand name in the US). For instance, in Singapore, the Infinity is sold at SGD $1099, which is even more expensive than the New iPad, making the Infinity the most expensive tablet available. In fact, at that price in Singapore, I can buy a very decent laptop instead. Even the new Galaxy Note 10.1 with max configuration (3G version) is only SGD $998.
I am not sure how ASUS is doing in the US, but at least in Asia (minus Taiwan), ASUS is not doing a very good job in the tablet market. I have never seen a single ASUS tablet being used in the public before, while the iPad and Galaxy tabs dominate the Asia market. That is quite understandable because ASUS has always been selling its tablets at very high price. In Singapore, the Transformer Prime has always been more expensive than iPad 2, and so is the Infinity. That is also something I cannot really understand. While Apple and Samsung can sell its products in Singapore at relatively the same price in the US, ASUS can't seem to do the same thing. I am hoping they can do a better job with those upcoming Windows 8 tablets.

Just came back from my first visit to Singapore and visited the Funan mall and the Infinity was selling for $899 Singapore dollars at some store that had loads of Asus stuff.
I'm sitting on an a700 and am wondering about dev support too for the Infinity. I can't return my a700, but the lagginess on the Acer is killing me. Might make the move to the Infinity if it has great support.

It'll come with time. Early adoption of devices means bugginess and slow ROM support, but it all comes eventually. You'll be sitting there wondering wtf is going on then a week later you'll be irritated because you can't decide which ROM you want to download to try next. Happens every time.

I hope the devs come after JB release. I am afraid that most devs bought the transformer prime, and dont have enough incentive to upgrade to the infinity. If support doesnt come after JBs release, i'll have to take a stab at it. Have a software background, just never made a rom. With the bricking that is occurring, and no NVFlash, I'd be afraid to try on this device.
Got my N7 coming in the mail and have a GNex, perhaps I should practice on those.

Worth it?

I'm look at purchasing either the Infinity or the TF300, right now, but I'm unsure which would be the best option. Is the Infinity worth the $100 more? Does it suffer in performance at all from the higher pixel count?
A device's development community is also important to me. Do you think it will be as good as the Prime's/og Transformer? Or will it be rather small like the TF300?
Any opinions would be great! Feel free to answer any, or all questions!
Thanks!

The screen is much nicer, and its faster. Both tablets suffer from some I/O issues from my understanding, but not something that can't be fixed via a software update.

I'm trying to figure that one out myself. I have a tf300 in my hands right now, and from a foot and a half away, you can clearly see the individual pixels. Its not too bad though; it still has a much higher PPI than most computer displays. But most people say the difference is really noticeable. Since the display is the biggest feature of the tablet the resolution is important. I guess you could relate it to a computer monitor: Would you buy a 1280 x 800 monitor, or would you spend an extra $100 to buy a full HD monitor?
As a device gets older, the dev community around it gets better. The tf300 is in good shape considering there's an official cm9 port for it. It may take some months for the tf700 community to build up, but it should eventually be what the og transformer is today.
Hopefully ASUS gives us a bootloader unlock so that we can flash custom kernels and recoveries. (they most likely will)
this is my problem too, i don't know should i just get the tf300 or spend 100 bucks more to get the tf700.
is that screen resolution and gorilla glass 2 really worth it since i don't need better cameras nor good design?
or should i go for the nexus 7? i had a chance to read books on my friend's nook tablet, it was awesome, but watching videos was just kinda ok, surfing the web was not easy with a small screen.
i really don't know which tablet size is good for me?

I think we'll have a good community because this is the best android tablet now.

I just returned my TF300T and am waiting to receive the TF700. I agree with rightonred about the amount of pixels you can see. Also, don't plan on doing anything on your tab in plain daylight, as it is hard to see, even with the brightness maxed out.
Also if you're planning on customizing the TF300 - there isn't much of a development community. There are currently about 4 roms out right now, ALL are experimental and all have issues with one thing or another. 2 of those roms are based off of CM9. One is AOKP and the other is an experimental JB rom in which only a few things work. Keep in mind the TF300 has been out since March and the development community hasn't gotten any larger.
TL;DR - Spend the extra $100 and get the TF700. The dev community will be a lot stronger and the specs are better.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I think if I can swing it, I'll go for the Infinity! Though it does get up there in price with the dock... we'll have to see haha

Mediapad 10 FHD over tf 700

Just wanted to get some thoughts on this. I was thinking about buying it TF 700 until I recently saw a video about a Mediapad 10 FHD. Based on the specifications that are online this tablet beats out the TF 700 with a better CPU and the 2gb ram. I wanted to get some opinions on this. Do you guys think it may be worth it, give this company a chance, or just go Asus. Also, the I/O problem worried me but looks like it can be fixed. I also like trying out roms and scripts. Think this new tablet may have a good community (if even one at all) ?
Sent from my Gameboy Color
No custom ROMS. Nobody knows about Huaiwei. Lots of people know about asus.
If you're looking for custom roms, the Mediapad isnt an option for you. Very few Huaiwei devices have developer support at all, let alone solid support.
Edit: Regarding the extra ram, the Nexus 7 just came out and it only has 1GB. Android phones have been at 1GB for a while. Honestly, I think we'll be here a while... even if 2gb devices start becoming more common, there'll still be a ton of 1GB (and even 512MB!) devices out there. Developers (app and rom) aren't going to drop those overnight.
I'm also tossing up between the Infinity and the FHD, the Huawei has a couple of positives in that it has nicer speaker placement, it is 3g and 4G and it is much cheaper! Hmmm

Yeah I'm going for an infinity

I'm with you all on preferring the TF700, but Huaiwei (or however you spell it ) is damn serious about entering the mobile and tablet market. They have actually made lots of devices that were subsequently rebranded, so they have extensive experience on the hardware side. However, the point made about robust developer support, if any developer support at all, being unlikely stands, and pretty much excludes this tablet for the enthusiasts in here. (If it is really, really, really good, obviously the balance will change, but that needs time. That's a scarce commodity in Tweakyland. ).
Oh, and I see neither a need nor a practical use for 2 GB of RAM at this point in time. The apps we are using are mostly still optimized for phone use, and do not even fully use the resources available in today's tabs. Go and look up any decent, in-depth review of the TF700 or the Nexus 7 and you will find the same adage repeated over and over again: "great/best Android tablet, but the lack of optimized apps is its Achilles heel." I'm sure the same goes for any higer-end Android tablet at the moment, especially when compared to Apple's line of products.

Actually i'm asking my uncle whose in USA to get this for me, and only Asus tablets have international warranty
If nexus 7 comes out with 32 gigs ill get that then.
The newest tablets I can compare for you is this and the GNote 10.1
GNote 10.1 runs faster and the s-pen is great
TF700 is a bit laggier but amazing res and yes, a lot of apps aren't that great for 1080p
But we know apps will be

Lets ignore the higher than average build quality issues, since you can just pick a place that will let you return many times until you get one without visual hardware flaws. (make sure you do that.. pick a place with a good return policy)
I am seriously disappointed in this tablet. (it's my second one) It's really slow and really choppy. I would NOT spend my own money on this device. But that's your decision to make. I shouldn't have to unlock and void my warranty to make my tablet work at an "almost" acceptable level. Running Cleanrom 1.0 makes the tablet way better, but still nowhere near the level an expensive device should be at. I'll try Cleanrom 2.1 tonight.
When I say really slow and choppy, this isn't even with games or items that really tax the resources. This is while using things like Pulse reader.. or pretty much anything that has to scroll or requires multiple touch actions in a row. like open email, scroll to bottom to check something, and press delete all in pretty quick succession. You have to pretty much pause between each screen touch so the tablet can keep up or you get "Application Not Responding". This is likely related to the poor I/O. (my 2 year old phone, and 2 year old ACER dont have this issue)
I helped out a previous employer and was given this tablet as a gift.. I keep it because depending on how you look at it, it wasn't really my hard earned cash that paid for it. I'm sure there are many people out there who love their tablet... But compared to my much older and much lower spec Acer A500 this thing sucks. If you dont NEED the keyboard.. try the Acer A700 instead.
The screen on the TF700 is very nice (the serious light bleed is only really noticeable at start-up). I have had no issues with blurriness or general ugliness. Obviously with the high resolution things must scale and any applications built with low quality graphics will be fuzzy when scaled. This is not an issue with the tablet, but rather with the App developer. Any high res screen will have the same issues until all app devs convert to higher quality graphics.
After dealing with my friends terrible TF201 (prime) and now this TF700 (2 of them).. Which proves ASUS is either not capable of fixing the performance issues, or simply doesn't care. Either way it will take a lot for me to throw any cash toward ASUS in the future.
Moved to the correct board.
In the future, for faster service, and be sure to use the report thread button, and to alert one of us...
Okay, but so so many people say tf700 is really good, Wont JB make it better?
or am i better of getting nexus 7 32 gig + OTG to add my external HDD.
I would love to get the note 10.1, but sadly it doesnt have a international warranty.. and i makes no sense getting it from India as its around 40,000rs(800$)
So,i'll be getting either T700 or Nexus 7 or yea ipad mini(though am not intrested in apples products).
Honestly, i don't know why so many people say bad things about this tablet. No device is perfect, they all have their flaws... you just have to choose which ones are most important to you. Since I've gotten this tablet I've experienced nothing but good things... apps and games are fine and will only get better. Speed is fine with the browser2ram apk installed... and the look and feel of this thing is just amazing. Don't let all the negative comments here mislead you. I was worried when I bought this tablet then came here to read only negative things, but after taking the leap of faith I have no regrets.

No don't get it.
Why?
Because if you can't get rid of it easily after being disappointed then there you are.
Stuck with it...
...unless your not too worried about having a problematic tablet.
Well. i agree with all your point's.
Acer and 2-3 more compaines are coming out with 1080p tabs + htc butterfly which is a 1080p phablet.
So, i assume all these "might" lead to a quality full HD app's?
And does the nexus 7 support OTG
Great now i find out it has dead pixel issues :/
I think it's a good investment. I love the **** out of my Inifnity. Yes, there are some QC issues like light bleed (very little in my case) and screen adhesive issues (again, very little for me) but I still think the price is justified. This is why stores have return policies. The best thing a consumer can do in this case, is to give the company as much feedback as possible. The majority of consumers don't realize how much influence they really have. Even the iPad has issues like these. Granted, Apple customer support is probably a lot more responsive. I still think people should not go into the tablet market, being so young as it is, and expect perfection.

I wouldn't recommend this tablet. I have had it since it launched and I waited too long to return it.I waited for JB to be released on it. It ran ok with ICS but now that it has JB its pretty sluggish and choppy compared to other tablets in the Transformer line that run JB(which was a huge letdown considering the hardware in this thing). And as of now, there nothing optimized for its 1080p screen. This tablet is just a little too far ahead of its time. If i could make any recommendation, I would say wait until the Nexus 10 is released.
Yea nexus 10 will be too late(and probably when it comes out i wont be able to get it, cause next year my uncle might not come down to india).. now i'm looking into nexus 7,ipad mini and ipad 3 :/

Anybody going to sell their tf300 to buy a nexus 10?

Hi
As much as I like my tf300 I am tempted to sell it because;
1. Guaranteed quick android updates
2. Higher Res screen more so than ipad 3 and tf700
3. Limited use of dock besides charging, stand and USB data transfer
I bought the tf300 because even in the UK where its £400 with dock. It was great value but 4 months on there is a lot of new products coming out very soon.
Anyone else tempted to sell or are their good reasons to keep it...what do you think?

You should check out all the problems the Nexus 7 is having with screen lifts. Meaning, the actual screen comes out of the encasing and people are having to glue it back in. Remember, you always get what you pay for. Except with the TF300, that was quite a deal. And since it only came out in April and since that time we've been given an unlocked bootloader and Jelly Bean.

What do you plan on doing with your Asus? I might do the same but not really sure where i could sell this tablet for a decent price besides ebay since it's not very a very big product here in the UK.
On topic though, buying a nexus 10 would mean no tegra games (some are great IMHO) and the high screen resolution may be more taxing on the process i think. At least it wouldn't have I/O issues (probably) and would likely be quite fast. Time will tell i guess.

I was thinking about selling it on ebay also but I really dont want to let it go for less than 300gbp. Especially with all the fees ebay charge 10% + 10% paypal. So I am hoping to sell it on gumtree.
Tegra games are pretty awesome admittedly but the benefits of being nexus kinda outweight the little graphical advantages.
The i/o issue is dissapointing although it is better on some of the custom roms we really shouldnt have this problem.
Im assuming the processor will be pretty beefy hopefully to cope with the screen res but like you say time will tell. The deciding factor for me will probbly be price on the 'manta'. If it is around 400gbp for a 32GB version I will probably get it. Any more and it is unlikely.

The best solution would be to have both :victory:
I just bought this tablet and would sell it in a heat beat for a 10" Nexus tablet. It must be 32GB minimum I don't understand why all the Nexus branded devices are 16GB ONLY. I played with the N7 and really like it and i mean really like it and at the price point it was sweet. Three reasons why i went with the TF300 was because i got it for the same price as a Nexus 7, 10" screen and 32GB + Micro SD.
The reason why there isn't huge sale on the Nexus brand is do to storage limitations in my opinion, I would have bought the Galaxy Nexus rather then an hTC if it had 32GB or 16GB + Micro SD.
16GB non expandable memory is just unacceptable, they should do what apple does and charge a little more for more memory.
back on topic if the TF300 did not have I/O issues it would have been the perfect tablet, I can't believe Asus can get away with this BS and still sell in stores without fixing. Its understandable that the first gen TF300 had this issue but this should have been addressed a long time ago./
You were lucky to get the tf300 at nexus 7 price! I got 10% of retail price so paid £360.
Would love to be able to own the manta and tf300 but i cant justify two tablets when i also own a galaxy note!
Thanks for your opinions people i think im set on the new nexus 10 depending on price.
Time to restore my tf300 to stock jelly bean!

ABSOLUTELY.
I'm tired of dealing with this heap of junk and Asus' worthless support.
Nexus 10 - no dock, so I will stay on TF300T

A couple specs http://briefmobile.com/nexus-10-design-revealed-in-leaked-manual
Didn't go for the nexus 7 because of no expandable memory and no hdmi support.
I can live with out the dock... kinda screwed myself updating to jelly bean and losing the option of aosp roms... or kinda got screwed by Asus.... posted an ad on kijiji today

After seeing the leaked images of the nexus 10 Ive changed my mind that is one ugly looking tablet!

I will wait to see & use some win 8 products or just stay put till next year.
Bit underwhelmed with the nexus 10. How's the galaxy note 10.1? Better hardware than the nexus 10 and has some great features.

The best of TF300T is the dock: extra battery and keyboard !!
The gap between the new Nexus 10" and the old TF300T is great in hardware speed, but... really we really need it ?
I dont´t think so, if the TF300T have a nice CM10 rom with the lastest kernel...could be enough for me.
Not me.
My next tablet/notebook hybrid will likely be a Windows 8 machine. Whether RT or Pro I don't yet know. Whether the new ASUS tablet or one of the Samsung ones, I don't yet know either.
The TF300 showed me just how awesome this form factor could be. I love it. But the truth is I use it in fundametally different ways from the way I use my 7" HTC Flyer tablet. And the ways I use it it just makes more sense to buy a Windows device.
Now, my next phone will be an Android phone and my next 7" tablet likely a Nexus 7. So I won't be abanding Android at all. I'll just be using what I see as the right tool for the job.
Is there any windows tablet with keyboard for about £400? They all seem quite pricey. Also, the review i read for the surface wasn't very positive.

Toshiba excite pro or new Asus tablet?

Both will feature tegra 4, 2560x1600,microsd,front & rear facing camera I assume new Asus will be unlockable but nothing is definite-
Do you think Toshiba will have better i/o?
I wouldn't mind a change but I will wait to see how it plays out ?
IF Asus fix the I/O then I think with ASUS pedigree in the Tab market and hopefully strong Dev Community which is already here you'd feel and hope it would be the better purchase. But it mostly rides on the I/O will have to wait nearer the time I suppose.
Is there an a release date with it yet?
Haven't seen a release date, as it may have to depend on how fast they are cranking out Tegra 4 chips. I would go with ASUS based off their past performance in updating devices faster than other manufacturers. But like most, the I/O performance is going to influence the upgrade from those on these forums, or Toshiba or HP may be getting some customers. I would imagine an mid-July early August release for these devices.

You can order june 25 from toshiba direct
The Toshiba 32gb apparently will be $100 less than the Asus. The catch is no keyboard dock option, or steady updates. They also like to use proprietary connectors, so no advantage there. If Toshiba updated more, I would lean more to saving $100. I rarely use my TF300 dock.
I think the Tegra 4 chip is going to be a watershed point and be a near death blow for some laptop segments. The iPad 4 is already causing it and this should be a near final straw.
Edit: Both 32gb models are same price, so getting the Toshiba IMO would make no sense due to lack of updates.

Well not only that the Toshiba has locked boot loaders. Good luck rooting it as it does not seem like even the existing models have support for that.

Well, I hope Asus has learnt from their mistake in ruining all of the good components in Infinity with I/O issues. This, however, makes me wonder what were they thinking when they released Infinity with such a laughable I/O performance. Mind you I eventually sold my Infinity. It was very frustrating to install ROMs one after another just to gain a bit of performance. Despite of loving Android as a mature OS, I am going back to iPad to focus on using the tablet rather than fixing mistakes of greedy careless hardware manufacturers. Are you listening Asus?!

So what the hell are you doing on an Android developement forum dedicated to exactly that?

Lol! I am glad you are enjoying it. I get it. Sometimes it is hard to admit a wrong purchase.
Now cool down and read this: If it was not for the great work some of the developers do here I wouldn't keep it for a day. TO name a few, CROMI and CM10.1 really made it tolerable and even great in some aspects. But I cannot blame you for simply being a fan. There are fanboys in all of the camps. Android and apple.

Not a fanboy, I lack a few dangling bits between my legs for that.
I do not regret my purchase at all. I have not noticed much in terms of lag, certainly not as much as people claim there to be. Compared to my GT 2 10.1, which I most certainly do regret buying, it is razorsharp and very smooth.
Maybe others are too proud to admit a mistake, but that is a male ego trait. I have neither pride nor ego, let alone the need to defend it.
All I meant was that it is a little lame to go on an Android forum to say Apple is better.
I bought the Excite Pro, good piece of equipment, some cons ofc but i'm really enjoying it, to bad about support though.
Toshiba is pretty bad for update efforts. My Toshiba Excite 7.7 is an example. Toshiba are also awful with making efficient firmware that does not bleed the battery while in sleep mode. Even with wifi off it bleeds more than most tablets. Wonder if same for the new T4 tablet.
Got the Toshiba Excite Write!
And it looks to be a damn fine tablet. Antutu scored 28k+ and the graphics power is phenomenal. Has built in video and audio enhancements, seems pretty stable on this kernal build, although I expect an update soon because of a couple of weird quirks. The stylus works great (love the eraser by turning over the pen!), but not as developed as the Note 10.1, however, the screen rez is fantastic at 320 DPI and looks as good as the Nexus 10. The rear camera is REALLY great...best I've seen so far on a tablet, and the speakers are clear as a bell with excellent surround sound controlled in hardware, so anything you play gets enhanced. It does get a little warm on the left side under the camera when running an intensive app.
If you have any questions or requests, fire away!
Good day
From where you get toshiba pro or write i want to buy a new one
Thank you

Our guess is as good as yours. They have been really quiet since the reveal. I would guess mid August for back to school season
