How can I make the voice search to speak the answers like in the Nexus 7? That doesn't work for me, it only does a google search..
Any help?
Not all searches will be answered with built in tts, just some pre determined ones for example weather forecast

I just discovered that if I set the system language (not the voice search language) to english it works.
Do you know how to make it work if I change the system language?
Thanks

Funny... I updated the out of the box voice-search with what was available on the Android market from Google. It seems to work fine for me.
I hold down the Search key until it pops up, speak, receive bacon.
It seems to usually work fine with "Navigate To..." commands and "Send Text to ..." commands. Also, just speaking stuff to search seems to work. I have never gotten the "Play..." or some of the other commands to work properly.

It doesn't support your language...I had mine set to UK English, when I changed it to Irish English, it used Generic English for it and all the commands work well now!

Yeah, for some reason, a lot of the commands are not enabled for "alternate" languages. Set to US English or General/Generic English in the system language settings, and then it should hopefully work. If you don't want to do it for the System language, then you can also do the following:
Main Screen (Home)->Menu button->"Settings"->"Voice Input & Output"->"Voice Recognizer Settings"->"Language"->set it to "English (US)".
This should make the accuracy a tiny bit less due to non-American accent (particularly if you have a heavy accent comparatively), but it enables a lot more of the command usages.
thanks this helped. oh sorry about my screen name

I have 2 devices how run 4.0.4 android. Not the same brand, not even the same developer rom. One knows to correct my typing, the other not. Under settings, language, input, spelling correction. One have my language (Heb) the other not.
But I thought why to myself it is not important. I guess it`s just a dictionary part.
My wish is, for someone to tell me how and what can I copy from one to another to have it on both.
Thanks in advance

The last version of go Backup (the same of GoLauncher EX) can backup your dictionary, the language comes with the ROM (I think, because I often see multilanguage or English/Chinese in the ROMs description)
Does anyone know where the offline language packs are stored? I see that US English is pre installed and weighs in at 22MB I only need UK English so how can I bin the US pack and reclaim 22MB?
Thanks

If I'm not mistaken you will find the files in /data/data/com.android.inputmethod.latin/files(/dicts). That's where at least the dictionaries for the keyboard go to. I think /data/data/com.google.android.tts/app_patts holds any of the offline voice recognition language packs.
If it works by simply backing up stuff and then restoring it into the proper location is up to your testing. I think the best bet would be to try and decompile the Google APKs to try and figure out from where they are downloaded, and what's downloaded.
hello. I wanted to ask if there is any way to use the Voice: OK, Google with another language other than English, a mod or something, thanks

Nope, not yet.
You think that is possible in the future with any mod or something?

Well, everything is possible in theory, but I don't think anyone will bother making a mod for this. But who knows?
As it doesn't even work with language setting English (UK) then I wouldn't know if it will be extended to other languages.
Obviously it would be a lot more widely usable.
I am lucky, I can have English (UK) for system language setting and set English (US) for Google voice search language

I'm from spain,english don't work for me ?
voice search is wording in all languages (including my native CZ), but "OK Google" in US English only

hi there,
I've looked around on XDA a bit but haven't found anything yet so here's my question:
Since 'OK Google' is available from any screen now since the last Google Search update was released, is there any way/hack to make this feature work outside of the states (I'm in the Netherlands)?
If I open the voice settings in Google Serach the option just doesn't appear. My phone is the Nexus 5, language is set to English (US), the ok google thing is working from the home screen or within search.
thanks!!
Here in germany this function is not implemented, too. Im looking forward for a fix/update soon...hopefully...
Would love to know this. Am in the UK on an unrooted Nexus 4. Don't have the option to start it from any screen.
From what people say, Google activates it server-side on an account-to-account basis, but what I am not sure of is is this valid only for people within the US or people elsewhere also get it (once it gets activated for your account) if they set their language to English (US)?
It's working since this morning for me. Looks like Google removed the US-only restriction!

Yes, I had it on English US all the time. My native language is German and Google Now is missing most features in German unfortunately
