Best QWERTY phone - General Topics

I currently have a HTC Desire Z, but recently discovered I was sent the wrong model by the seller on eBay so I can't get full 3G coverage where I live. My network of choice has full 850Mhz 3G coverage and 2100Mhz around the cities, so my HTC works near the cities but can't pickup 850Mhz everywhere else.
Ideally if I could find a Desire Z from Bell in canada I would buy that as it has 850Mhz support but they seem to be hard to find. The eBay seller I'm dealing with offered a Motorola Droid 3 as a replacement, but this seems to have a lack of support in terms of development.
My question is, what is a good QWERTY android that can run on 850Mhz 3G networks? And also is the Motorola Droid 3 any good compared to the HTC Desire Z?

Droid 3 is waaay better in terms of specs against the desire z. Dual core CPU clocked at 1 ghz vs an 800 mhz single core. Bigger screen, better resolution, double the ram, better camera.
But you're right about development. Desire z is wildly popular and droid 3 has nowhere near that amount of dev support

Will there be a NAM (850/2100) be avaiable?

I seen and researched a lot about the desire s. I think it a perfect phone to replace my nexus one. However no news about 850/2100 band. I think bell used to carry the desire line. I wonder if they will pick this up. If anyone find any source please post it here.

[Q] Slight Problem

I want to buy an Inspire 4G, and i'm from Romania.
I would like to use it in the Orange Romania network. But someone pointed out that i most certainly cannot use the 3G and 4G functions of this phone in this network because of different frequencies.
How can i find out what frequencies the phone operates on for 3G and 4G and what frequencies my Romanian network operates on for the same services?
I haven't ordered the phone yet, but i will not order it if i can't use it in full swing. Can someone clarify the frequency and usage thing for me?
Thank you.
Is there a reason you don't want the Desire HD? Orange Romania uses 900/2100 for HSPA+ (3G/4G) and 1800 for GSM (2G), all included in the DHD. The DHD also has a front facing camera. With an Inspire you would only be able to use 1800 GSM.
I found all this with Google.
Sent from my Inspire using the dark side.
Yeah, it's 100$ more expensive and i can't afford it.
So my only chance for Romania is the Desire HD? No way i could get the Inspire working? How about the Motorola Defy?
If i buy this Motorola Defy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280658487905&category=9355&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619 can i use it at 100% in Romania?
The radios in the Defy would work on Orange in Romania. I don't know much about it but it has a smaller screen and uses motoblur.

[Q] What is the most High-Tech 3.7 inch Android Phone?

Hello everyone,
i am apearantly one of the very, very few people who don't think "bigger is better".
I am in the market to replace my aging T-Mobile G1.
I have played around with some of the phones my friends have (4" Galaxy S, 4,3" Desire HD) and find them freakishly large, nothing to comfortably put in my pocket.
Looking at new releases seeing 4.3, 4.5, 4.7 inch devices i can not see myself being comfortable with any of these monsters.
Seeing as my G1 lasted me about 3 years i'd like to find a phone which isn't horribly underpowered by even todays standards to last me at least 2 years again, so what i'm looking for is:
- GSM /HSPA(+) phone usable in europe (germany to be precise)
- Screen between 3.5 - 3.9 inch (3.7 idealy)
- fastest CPU/GPU available in this form factor (idealy dual core)
- as much ram as possible.
- front camera (if possible)
Hope Anyone can help, because all i came up with are Nexus One / Desire / Desire S, and i feel there should be better options than 1 Ghz Qualcom Single Cores with Adreno 200/205.
EDIT (Nov. 12th, 2011):
------------------------
The (prelimenary) Winner here is the T-Mobile US exclusive "MyTouch 4G slide".
It is working on all Bands used by every single provider in germany, namely:
GSM: 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
HSPA: 1900 / 2100
and has a dual core 1.2 GHz Processor aswell as 768 MB RAM.
PLEASE - if you can point me to a place where i can buy a unlocked "MyTouch 4G slide" that will ship overseas to europe, let me know.
*BUMP*
bump, bringing it back from page #6
On the HTC side, it is likely that the Desire S is your only option.
heh, my problem is that i only realy found HTC 3.7 inchers, i was looking for any others, but couldn't realy find any

Ok, Thanks - 1.4 GHz singlecore is a step in the right direction, if only there was a dual core in 3.7 inch
No dualcore in 3.7"
Xperia Arc, Neo ?

Thanks for the suggestions, but the Arc is a 4.2 Inch Phone, the Neo certainly has a 3.7" Screen, but comes with the same QSD8255 1GHz Snapdragon like the Desire S, but with only 2/3 of its RAM.
Many four inchers now are almost the same size wih the older 3.7 ones... you might reconsider.
Edit: eg; moto atrix close in size to iPhone 4s

WE HAVE A (potential) WINNER, PEOPLE!
After doing some more digging i finaly found a 3.7 inch dual core smartphone.
The 'HTC Doubleshot' aka 'MyTouch 4G slide' sold by T-Mobile US has a 1.2 Ghz Dual Core Snapdragon and 768 MB of RAM. In Addition to that it also has a full QUERTY Keyboard, nice plus there.
According to the Spec-Sheet on GSMArena ( http://www.gsmarena.com/t_mobile_mytouch_4g_slide-4018.php ) it supports all 4 GSM / 2G Bands used in germany, as well as HSPA on both of the 3G/3.5G (yeah, in europe HSPA+ is 3.5G, not "Faux-G" aka non LTE/Wimax 4G) Bands used by the german providers, namely 1900/2100.
So that means full operation is possible on EVERY german Cell Provider.
Now for the hard part:
The MyTouch 4G slide is a T-Mobile US exclusive and won't EVER come to Europe i was told by HTC Germany.
So......can anyone point me to a place where i can buy a MyTouch 4G slide, unlocked, with overseas shipping to europe?

EBay would probably be your best bet. As far as unlocking is concerned, you might be able to buy it unlocked or take it to a vendor who will do it for you for a small fee. Failing that, get a Galaxy W

regular versus 4g?

Hi All. I am looking at picking up a couple HTC sensations for myself and the wife, and I am trying to find out if roms/hacks for the sensation (regular version) work with the sensation 4g version? For perspective, I have found out the hard way that ROMs for the samsung fascinate will (temporarily) brick your fascinate 4G, so if the same is true for the sensation, I will likely just look for a couple non 4G models, as I don't see much reference to the 4G models here on XDA (and I've had enough of being left on the sideline like I was with the fascinate 4G).
Thanks!
I'm pretty sure the only difference is that the Sensation 4G is a T-mobile device and for HSPA+ instead of displaying 'H' it displays a '4G' icon.
I'm pretty sure you're right. Hoping to get more than 'pretty sure' though heh heh.
Here in Canada, I see local ads selling Bell sensations, and Bell sensation 4Gs... Either they are two different hardwares, or (, as I am beginning to suspect, ) it's the same phone and it's just that some people here don't put '4G' in their ad. I'm hoping someone can definitely confirm this with personal experience though before I commit to several hundred dollars.

Look here, same specs in everything, i think its just a market trick also..
It's the same damn thing.
Thanks for the link johnpushon. It looks like the radio section does have some differences, so looks like there is 2 different phones (right?). It's a little over my head to know what it means in practical terms.
It would be great to hear from someone who has done this, but what I really want to know is what are the data rates like (on the telus and speakout networks actually) when you flash a non 4G ROM onto a 4G phone. I may have to find this out for myself.

No.
There's the Z710a and Z710e.
Both are called Sensation 4G by Bell and T-Mobile respectively, but the rest of the world doesn't. The difference between the e and the a are their radios, but that has NOTHING to do with 4G.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Please help alleviate my headache if you could... by shedding some more light on what the difference is between the two? It's confusing because one is called 4G, one is not, yet you're explaining that the difference between the phones has nothing to do with 4G?
From the gsmarena page:
Regular:
HSDPA 900/2100
HSDPA 900/1700/2100
4G:
HSDPA 900/1700/2100
HSDPA 850/1900
Thank you so much for your time.
Ignore GSM Arena.
Forget everything about the 4G. It's just a name. If tomorrow I started my own wireless carrier company, and if I called the Sensation the "Delicious Banana Sensation", it would be no different than the "4G" branding. It's just a 4 and a G that they attached to the name, nothing else.
Now, the difference between the Z710a and Z710 is merely the bands. The Z710a only work with some carriers and the Z710e only works with other carriers. It's like, British power plug vs American power plug. It's the same device with similar capabilities other than what makes it compatible for its environment. Just because my hair dryer is plugged into a 220-240V power outlet doesn't mean it's going to be twice as hot as the same hair dryer made for the American market and their 110-120V system.
Z710e:
2G 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G 900 / 1700 (AWS) / 2100
Z710a:
2G 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G 850 / 1900 / 2100
I love 'Delicious Banana Sensation'. Whenever anyone asks me "What kind of phone is that?", I'll tell them "It's an HTC Delicious Banana Sensation." and watch their eyes fill with jealousy, because their phone isn't as mouth watering as mine. HAHAAAA! "My phone has Siri, the intelligent assistant." "Oh yeah? Well my delicious banana sensation is made with froyo and ice cream sandwiches!" OHOHHHHHAHAHHA!
Thanks a lot lianw. Got a delicious banana sensation out of the paper for $275 yesterday, and today it's rooted and unlocked. It's all good.

[Q] Where can I buy a 32 gb One X with the S4 processor?

Hi,
I am looking for a One X with the S4 processor, but it needs to be at least 32gb.
I"m in the US.
Can someone please point me to names of stores where I can order online?
I'm thinking of places in Singapore or Hong Kong or Australia which actually have these devices for worldwide shipping?
Thanks!
I know the Australian version has 32 gb but if I'm not mistaken, the LTE won't work on AT&T because it's a different band.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
here's a question, if you were to flash an AT&T radio would the Australian phone get LTE in the US?
The 32 GB LTE One X are called the One XL. Operates on different LTE bands from what you have in the US. You can check out the bands in the specs for the AT&T One X here and the One XL here.
No, flashing radios doesn't change the bands it detects, bands should be based on hardware (I think). I've flashed the AT&T 2.09 radio and I'm using the Telus 1.91 radio now on my XL and I still have my LTE.

well that's a bummer.
Do you guys know of the URLs of the web stores that would sell the one XL 32gb version? I do not need LTE because 1) HSPA+ is already super fast, faster than Comcast 2) LTE drains the battery to the point that it's no longer worth it

Just an FYI, even though LTE does drain the battery faster than wifi, because it's built in to the S4, it really doesn't kill it that much. I still average over a day with 3-4 hrs screen on time using LTE which is better than any other phone I've ever used. The fastest speeds I've ever seen on HSPA+ were around 5-6 mbps whereas on LTE I can get over 30. It sucks that there's only 16gb in this thing but I'd rather have that and LTE than 32gb and no LTE.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Agreed.
Guys, any idea about availability of 32 GB One XL?
Where can we find one?
Can't really find them on eBay in EU, most online stores (like Expansys) don't carry them.
Telcos in Singapore carry One XL with 32gig capacity. you may want to try your luck at ebay.com.sg
LTE is not a power hog anymore.
Yes hspda+ is veryfast. But LTE is sillyfast!
I rang up 45mbit the other day. You definitely notice a difference(not that hspda+ isn't fast enough). Browser and apps just fly. Enjoyable luxury.
